Dried liquid on screen

It appears that I have some dried liquid on the screen of my iMac. I was just wondering how to clean it...it'll definately need a wet cloth or something.

If it is just ordinary liquid, take a soft cotton cloth and put a very small amount of water on a small spot of that cloth - just enough to loosen whatever is on the screen. Then wipe the area using light pressure and that should take care of it.
If not, then you might want to invest in some LCD cleaner like iKlear or something with no alcohol that leaves no residue.
I have always used water and a microfiber cloth, but cotton works fine too.
NEVER NEVER NEVER use paper products on your LCD and NEVER spray any liquid on the screen. Paper is very abrasive and you never know where that liquid may end up.

  • Liquid E3 screen unresponsive, won't wake up or hard reset

Hi, My Liquid E3 is acting strange. The screen is black and doesn't wake up when I press the power button. Even if I hold it down for a long time it won't power down (or do anything else). I read about a hard reset but when I push and hold the power key and down volume button it makes the sound of taking a screenshot! (As it normally would for that combination of key presses.) The phone is still functioning to a certain degree - I can use the web access of Whatsapp but when I try and call the phone, it goes straight to voicemail (without ringing). Of course the Liquid E3 has a built in battery so I can't try the old trick of taking the battery out! And, I have no way of accessing the serial number so I am unable to contact "official" Acer support! The red LED comes on if I plug the phone in to charge. Any suggestions???

I found adb.exe - it was stashed away in a different folder than the tutorial referred to. So, got everything running finally and it's not looking good, When screencast launches, there is just a black screen where it should show my phone. To double check, I tried my wife's phone and it worked fine with the screencast app. I would seem like I am looking at a broken screen? Any ideas anything else I can try? The only thing I can think of is to wait until the battery dies and then try a harad reset from powered off status?

  • Need some xrandr help (distorted external screen, etc...)

I just managed to switch from i810 to the new Intel driver, and am able to use xrandr now.
On my laptop I have a resolution of 1024x768 (on a Intel 945GM), and I use to connect it to an external UXGA (1600x1200) monitor via a VGA.
Now, when I reboot my computer with the secondary (external) monitor, it seems like it becomes my default monitor (tint for example can be found on it). Oddly, on my laptop there is displayed a part of the external monitor.
To solve this I issue the following command
$ xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768 --pos 0x0 --output VGA --mode 1600x1200 --above LVDS
I put the external above (or below) the monitor one in order to not disable DRI (the whole screen stays within the Virtual range).
Unfortunately now I get a slight distortion on the external screen - a sort of snowy/ grain-like effect which is especially visible around the edges of windows.
How can I get rid of this?
And is there a way to set my laptop's screen as the main one?
Also, when I try to set a wallpaper for both screens (I can choose between screen 1 and 2) using Nitrogen, Nitrogen crashes with the following error:
    $ nitrogen wallpaper/
The program 'nitrogen' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
    (Details: serial 4334 error_code 9 request_code 14 minor_code 0)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Besides, Visibility for example isn't displayed at all - it should be in the lower right corner of the main screen when starting for example Pidgin, but it isn't there.
Attached is my output from xrandr -q (with the external monitor plugged in, turned on, and in use), and my xorg.conf:
    xrandr -q
    $ xrandr -q

You said that you built a PC and that it died last summer. What monitor did you use with it? If you really want to play 3D intensive games at high res with great graphics you really should get a MacPro desktop. The graphics cards in the current iMacs are really low- middle to middle of the road cards. They will run most current 3D games at 1024x768 res with settings on med to high with AA turned off. The problem is the next generation of games due out in '07-08 will require even more powerful GPUs to run at "great graphics" levels that i think you want. And with the iMacs/MBPs you're stuck with the GPU. With the MacPros you get a good middle of the road GPU standard or a great build to order GPU for some extra cash. And you can upgrade your GPU anytime in the future.
    just me 2 cents

  • Specialists that repair water damaged iPhones in the UK

My iPhone4 survived being in the washing machine ( !!). Worked when I pulled it out after 10m inside. I left it to dry for two weeks with silica gel. Continued to work for nine months.
Then I went running. It started to rain so I slipped the iPhone up my sleeve... where sweat appears to have been wicked from my skin into the iPhone via my running top. Result: after two weeks drying out the screen had clear imperfections and damage although everything appeared to work. A month later: the screen backlight failed and wouldn't revive. I suspect salt has damaged the screen.
What it needs is a complete clean and probably a new screen.
Other than Apple, where in the UK repairs liquid damaged iPhones? I'd like to go for a firm that specialises so they do a full clean of the insides -- to reduce the chance of more damage happening later due to salt corrosion -- as well as replacing the obviously currently damaged screen components.
    Suggestions?
    All appreciated. thx.

  • Dear Lenovo

I would just like to express my disappointment in the purchase of my T410 laptop back in February of 2010. After scouring the internet for reviews about a reliable laptop, I came upon the ThinkPad series, specifically the T and W series. $1700 later and I was the proud owner of a Lenovo T410 laptop (even with no published reviews online weeks after release).
I sit here just one month over one year of ownership. Through this duration of time, I have experienced the following problems:
Random and intermittent disconnects of the wireless antenna from wireless networks
A faulty keyboard controller that must be fixed with a BIOS update
A screen that loses all contrast upon waking up from hibernation
A screen in general that is much poorer in quality than the screen of my previous laptop which was over 4 years old
Hinges that are beginning to loosen from the base of the laptop
    A creaky palmrest
The battery is difficult to remove as it actually slides slightly out of place while staying connected; to remove it requires me to first hold it in its intended position
Most annoyingly of all, a Shift key which as of today has begun to permanently stick and is beginning to lose all functionality. The shift key has now become incapable of typing more than one capital letter when depressed
Speakers which are insufficient even for playing back a video in public
Is this really the Lenovo experience that everyone ranted and raved about? The laptop has had no falls or accidents and is kept clean. In fairness, the processing speed of the computer is fast and opening programs is a breeze. Are these issues why reviews of the T410 did not appear until over a month after release? Out of all the purchases I have made, this is the one I regret the most. Thank you Lenovo for teaching me a $1700 lesson; Always listen to the negative feedback solicited by others concerning declining product quality. They were right.

    1. Try running the Intel ProSet WiFi drivers. Sometimes those work better.
    2. The BIOS update should've fixed the typing issues.
    3. Have you tried this:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T410-Screen-flickering-randomly-screen-cont...
    4. Have you tried color calibrating it? Glossy displays tend to be perceived as better due to visual illusions.
5,6. Tighten some of the screws on the underside.
    7. Pick off the Shift keycap look for grime, dirt, dried liquids and clean them off. Re-attach keycap. (Do this carefully)
    8. It's an enterprise laptop, go figure.

  • Unable to get Compiz Fusion working...

I'm aware this isn't a new issue, but the Wiki has so far been unable to solve my queries.
I've just freshly installed Arch on my new PC: Pentium-D 3.8Ghz, 2Gb of RAM and an ATi Radeon X1950 Pro (PCI-E).
I've installed Compiz Fusion as suggested via the wiki. When I run the fusion icon and activate compiz, I am left with no window borders and no working compiz. I've followed the troubleshooting section on the wiki to no avail. The problem remains.

  • IPad 2 light bleeding is receding?

I will confirm in the next few days, but, my light leakage is not as severe as yesterday.
Maybe it is connected with the drying of the screen glue.
The next few days will tell, I guess.
    Anybody else?

any sense, technically, with how glue drying would/wouldn't deliver a light bleed?
admittedly am not an expert on LCD technology, but it seems weird to me that less-than-dry glue (meaning more pliable and flexible) would create the light bleed so many have been documenting.
on the two iPad2s that i've had (both returned), the light bleed was localized to a particular spot(s) on the screen edge and reacted differently than the rest of the screen edge when i pressed them directly. in places where there was no light bleed i saw no reaction on the screen when i applied pressure...but when i applied pressure to the areas experiencing light bleed, the bleeding got worse.
again, no LCD expert, but it "looks" like the gasket that surrounds the screen may be pressing on the LCD array in some spots more than it should. if that's the case, then it won't go away with time...and has zero to do with glue drying.

  • Any suggestions for a wet iPhone? It's dried out, but all I get is a black screen, even when hooked up to charger. You think the apple people could  actually fix this?

I got a wet iPhone. It's dried out now, but still dark screen, even when plugged in

Hence the term "OUT OF WARRANTY EXCHANGE".

  • HT1349 My ipod was submerged in water monentarily. I have dried it with a hair dryer and set it in the sun for 1 hour. It now will turn on and only bring up the connect to itunes screen. My keypad is locked and will not unlock by connecting to itunes.

My ipod was submerged in water momentarily. I have dried it with a hair dryer and have placed it in the sun for 1 hour.  It will now turn on but will only bring up the connect to itunes screen. When I connect to itunes it is not recognized because it is locked with a security code. I have tried to reset the ipod using the instructions in the user manual to no avail. The accessibility screen is functional because I can turn on/off the voice over and the black and white screen. I think I am making progress but cannot unlock it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

Unfortunately, using a hair dryer or placing the iPhone in sunlight, at best, will dry the outside of the device. If water got inside, it may still be possible that this water has not dried and can short out the internal battery or cause other circuit damage ... and what you are seeing may be the results of that. I would recommend that you leave the iPhone turned off and take it to your local Apple Store. They may be able to help, but I wouldn't expect them to offer you a replacement. Sorry!

  • Went snorkeling... phone was dried, disassembled and still gets calls and txts but screen does not turn on... HELP??

    Hey Guys,
So my phone was my snorkeling buddy last week for a few minutes... I wasn't out in the water for longer than like 5ish minutes.  It is a Verizon 32gb iPhone 4. I've had a few problems with it before as the previous owner dropped it in some water which has not only fried both the wifi and bluetooth, but also caused the home button to work sporadically and the LED flash to stay on like a 1/3 of its power 24/7 even if the phone dies...
    Anyways,
about half an hour later of discovering 4 ft of water the phone was stuck in white rice (had to go on a rice hunt) and dried for several hours before I soaked and drowned it again in fresh water to try to get the salt out... One omen that I saw was that the eternal flashlight was finally, off.. after this, I stuck it back in rice for another day and a half and then stuck it on my ihome... the apple icon flickered and then went away. I plugged it in a few more times and finally got to the lock screen and started to hear txts and alerts come in. however, the screen was unresponsive and i couldn't unlock it.  not sure if it was just me but each time i plugged it in to try to get to the lock screen, the screen itself went from ok condition to having dark streaks diagonally across the screen. After this I stuck it back in the bag of rice before finishing off by letting it sit in the hot desert sun for a few hours..
Several days after this the phone was taken apart and there appeared to be little to no moisture. however, there was some rust. a newer battery was popped in and the phone itself was able to receive txts and calls (you can call it and swipe the bottom of the black screen to answer and talk through it).
is there anything i can do to fix the black screen or am I doomed to get another phone and loose all my pics and videos?????????? as i haven't backed up the media...
    Thanks

Apple won't touch it. It was opened by an unauthorized party. It is not eligible for an out of warranty replacement. Your only option is to buy a new phone.
Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. If you want to take your chances with a 3rd party repair service or try to fix it yourself, the only parts available are counterfeit parts, stolen parts, or salvaged parts.

How do I get passed it or fix it! I have tried holding the apple key and "s" and then type in the code to reset the password, but my keyboard is not letting me use the numbers or any keys that are accessed by holding shift! Please help me get passed this screen

Fluids and electronics do not mix.
You have caused some serious damage to parts of your computer, and likely voided the warranty until Apple completes a repair and re-certifies it.
Step one is to turn it off and do NOT (did I say do NOT yet?) turn it on again yourself.
Take it to an Apple store and be prepared for a large repair bill.
Sorry, but that is the truth.

my iphone 5 suddenly has a white blank screen,  no liquid contact or history of fall, what can i do with this problem?

    Hey there Galileo,
It sounds like your iPhone screen is solid white and you cannot do anything with it. Take a look at these steps from the following article about that kind of issue:
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you see a solid color screen (black, white or blue)
Plug in your device to a power source. If you see the low-battery screen when you plug in, let your device charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad) before using it.
Reset your device while it's plugged in.
If resetting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

So my phone got wet the other day. I dried it out completely, but the touch screen still isn't working. Is there anything I can do short of getting a new phone? Anything that can be done at the nearest Verizon store? I am one of three phones on our plan and I am trying not to need to get a new phone before our contract expires next month.

    Hello wetphone!
We're sorry to hear that your phone isn't working. It's very important to have a functioning touchscreen!  Let's explore your options OK? If the phone is taken to a store, troubleshooting can indeed be done. The store representative can even contact us while you're there.  Do you have insurance on the device? Or, do you maybe have a prior vzw device that can be activated until the upgrade is available? You can also check your My Verizon account to see if your line( or another line on the account) is eligible for an upgrade. VZW always has options for you.

  • [beryl] white screen after libx11/libgl-dri upgrade

    hello archers
after upgrading libx11 & libgl-dri this morning i suddenly have the white screen problem in beryl. the cube rotates and the cursor changes when howevering over windows, but the desktop is all white.
the only thing that was changed in my setup is that i upgraded libx11 and libgl-dri. here's the snippet from pacman.log:
    [11/25/06 11:34] installed xcb-proto (1.0-1)
    [11/25/06 11:34] installed libxcb (1.0-1)
    [11/25/06 11:34] upgraded libx11 (1.0.3-1 -> 1.1-1)
    [11/25/06 11:34] upgraded libgl-dri (6.5.1-1 -> 6.5.1-2)
i tried reverting by getting the previous PKGBUILDs from CVS and recompiling. but the white screen problem remained. however, getting the old packages from a server that had not been sync-ed did fix the problem :?
i will stick with the old packages for now. does anyone have a clue what might be the cause of this and whether there is a fix?
for reference: i am using beryl on aiglx with the i810 driver (945GM chipset) and KDE
ps: if anyone having the same problem needs the old packages i am willing to host them

    I have a R350 card.
It's very difficult for me to write in english, but I have a big problem when I switch to 'ati' or "radeon" driver : my fonts are very very small (divided by 2 ?).
    I think it's a problem in my xorg.conf, but I don't see what.
And I would like to test 3D effects... I use KDE, and I don't know which to use : Beril, compiz... I'm completely lost ! (but it's not the subject here)
A thing I'm sure : I have to resolve this problem of fonts before testing 3D...
For the moment, I have downgraded the package to make my apps working...

My IPad is dead. Nothing will show on the screen. Screen not cracked and no liquid spilled on it. Is there a battery that needs to be replaced?

    Battery not charging:
    1. Reset iPad; hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo
    2. Try another wall socket
    3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)
    4. Try another charger (make sure it's an original Apple charger)
    5. Clean Lightning port with compress air or new paint brush
