Drive Bay "A" Not Seeing Drives

Power Mac G5 (June 2004) Dual 2.5GHz 10.4.11. I've had two internal 250 gig drives since purchase. I thought drive "A" had crashed, as did the Genius at Apple Store Bar. It appears it's not the drive but the bay. Could it be cables, or the board? I'm working from drive "B" exclusively. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, I tried swapping drives. I wish I could swap cables but they are routed through the casing and it looks like a major disassembly of the case to make that happen. Sorry it took so long to respond. Thanks, Alan

  • Using Bridgeview with the IAK/IAS Server, I was able to read and write several registers using a string tag. In DSC using the Lookout Protocal Driver, I do not see a way to read/write string tags.

In the tag configuration I can select for a string tag, but I do not see a way to set up the Lookout Protocal Driver for a string tag.

That's right - The old IAK/IAS Servers from National Instruments were a tighten developement with BridgeVIEW together - so that they implement the string data type. Since NI recommends to use the LPD drivers instead of the IAK Servers there is no way to configure string tags in the Lookout protocol drivers. The LPDs or Lookout does not really handle arrays/strings at all - that's a limitation for the Lookout protocol drivers.

  • T430s 2nd Hard Drive Bay Caddy not working

    Hi all,
I bought 2nd Hard Drive Bay Caddy for my T430s but it does not seem to work.
The HDDs I placed in it do not even start to spin, and they are not recognized by the laptop BIOS as also by my OSes, Windows and Linux.
The label on the caddy says it is P/N 26r9247, but at this stage I'm not sure is a compatible part or if I got just a faulty item.
    Any feedback?
    Solved!

That part number (26R9247) is for the older T60/61 Thinkpads.  You need the Ultrabay III adapter.  Look at 43N3412.

    Hi Marcus25,
Sorry to inform you, the Scanjet 5370c is not supported on Windows 7:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03403550&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
The driver listed on the HP site is intended for another model (Scanjet 5590) and seems to be wrongly pposted for your scanner.
I have reported this issue in order to get it corrected..
Altthough it is not officially supported, you may try the 3rd party VueScan application which seems to support your scanner wthout the need to install any drivers on the computer:

  • How do I move Macintosh HD drive from drive bay 4 to another drive bay

I have a drive in each bay.  One of the drives is being removed.  I'll have an open drive bay.  I Can't remember how Macintosh HD got in drive bay 4, but it's there.  If I move Macintosh HD from drive bay 4 to drive bay 1, will the Mac recognize it when I restart the computer?

Why move it to begin with? yes it will immediately boot from it. yes you can insure it will. there is no difference in where - maybe good idea to clone the system, have a bootable clone copy, maybe the time is right for a $100 120GB SSD now.

  • T43 2nd Hard Drive Bay Caddy not working

I installed a generic ultra bay caddy and the new drive isn't recognized.
It works fine in an external enclosure.
    Any suggestions?

The caddies for a T60/61 (also R and Z series) will work if you remove a plastic tab that prevents them from being inserted in a T4x or R5x series. The faceplate looks slightly different but it's not objectionable looking when installed.

  • Audigy 2 zs platinum front drive bay mic2 not worki

hey all I finally got my AD_EXT wire to make my audigy 2 card work with the front dri've bay but the problem now is I am in vista ultimate 32bit, all drivers installed right, all cables plugged in but the mic2 is not working....... I'm using a dynamic mic Samson Q7 microphone with the XLR cable. This microphone I heard does not need a preamp so it should powered up.
I called creative and the guy supposed to send me a article to read to fix it but so far no luck in my email about it.
anyone staff members here know the link to that article?

Maybe this will help out:? Under Control Panel ---> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Hardware I have the following list. CD-RW SOHR-5239SDVD_RW ND-3550AMPU-40 Compatible MIDI DeviceUnsupported Standard Game Port - Location: on PCI BusCreative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) - Location PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 5, Device 7, Funtion 0)Creative Game Port - Location: PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 5, device 7, function )Audio CodecsLegacy Audio DriversLegacy Video Capture DevicesVideo Codecs? All of them are listed as "Working Properly". The MPU-40, the unsupported game port, creative SB Audigy 2 ZS, Audio codecs, legacy Audio Drivers, and the Creative Game port were all uninstalled prior to my latest re-installation. When the windows install wizard popped up, I cancelled, so everything on that list was installed using the latest creative ZS Platinum driver for x64.

  • PowerBook will not boot, Disk Utility does not see drive, HW Diag Pass

My PowerBook Ti will no longer boot. I am getting a flashing what looks like OS 9 face, and folder in the middle of the screen, and they alternate.
I have Tiger Disks so I tried booting from them and running the disk utility. The drive is not recognized.
I decided to run the PowerBook's hardware diagnostic disk. Both sets of test passed. I was expecting to see the mass storage one to fail, but it did not.
I am kind of stuck, does anybody have any kind of suggestion?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lee
PS Hitting apple S is not recognized during the boot.

Could this be a bad logic board????
Yes. Or a bad hard drive cable, or a poorly seated connection on either end of that cable.
The HD cable is fairly delicate and needs to be handled with care when connecting and disconnecting, as when you're replacing the HD. It's possible that your first HD failed, and then you damaged the cable when removing it or installing the new drive, so that even though the second drive is new and presumably in good working order, it can't be used because the cable is now bad. I would suggest investing a small amount in a new HD cable before replacing the LB or returning the new HD. Any of these parts vendors should be able to supply one:

I need assistance getting my windows computers to see my external harddrive attached to the airport extreme.  It is a my passport.  The disk shows on the airport utilitiy but neither of my pcs can see it.  If i connect a simple thumb dirve they see it just fine.
What do i need to do to get this to work.  There is no password on the external hard drive at the moment.  I tried removing it to see if that would work.

There are a number of posts related to access issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
    Search for: security
    Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    Click OK
     To disable Windows Search:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name. From the AirPort Utility, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab. On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • Importing help - not seeing drives A: and B:

I'm trying to import photos after a hard drive change and the import dialogue doesn't see my A and B drives.  It seems like the software only sees drives after C:  Both A and B are physical internal drives.
    How can I remedy this?

Historically, A: and B: were reserved for floppy drives, and LR evidently expects them to still be floppy drives, hence it doesn't look at them.
Personally, I'd assign those drives letters from higher up the alphabet.

  • T430s Drive bay does not stick

    Hi!
I'm very happy with the 2nd bay that replaced a rather useless CD/DVD combo with a much more needed SSD storage extension.
So I went and bought the official Lenovo bay, (as apposed to the cheap 3rdparty chinese parts).
There is one problem though. it doesn't stick. It would just drop out or slide out during transport. It seems that the latch that is supposed to lock it is not working.
Do other T430s users have similar problems keep the bay in place? What can I do to block it apart from scotch-tape.

Not sure you got the right one, according to those numbers.
I was just asking about adapters here the other day, in this thread.  If you look at the compatibility matrix that was linked there, the part number for the 430s is 43N3412, which is the III iteration.  I found what appears to be a more current one, the IV, part number 0B47315.

  • [Solved] Windows 8 not seeing drives

I'm trying to install Windows 8 to achieve a clean install with no bloatware. I made my Win 8 bootable usb. When I get to the Windows setup where it ask you where you want to install Windows? All that it shows is my USB drive. Doesn't show my RAID or my 1TB drive.
    I'm running a GT70-2OD-039US, its the Dragon Edition GTX 780m one with the 3 x SSD in a RAID0.
    What I'm I missing?

Nevermind, I got it. I just needed to load the RAID drivers at the Windows Setup Also, looking in the bios, it said 1 of 3 of my SSD had error. I think that is what has been giving me issues for the last few days. All is well now!!

  • No audio in firefox, works fine in IE & Chrome. Have Dell E6500 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. every thing works with native windows driver but with not IDT driver

I have no Audio in Firefox. I think this is an old problem with Dell IDT driver and Firefox. Flash is installed, I have uninstalled and re-installed two or three times, removed pluggins and put them back to no avail. The native win 7 driver from 2010 works okay in all browsers including firefox but I would like an up-to-date driver that works. The latest IDT driver for my Dell e6500 running Win 7 pro works great in IE and Chrome but not Firefox.

I don't think there was any setting I could change on the driver. Firefox did not show up in the mixer or volume control. It is there with the native win 7 driver. This driver doesn't seem to see Firefox. I just got this computer, but looking for help, posts three years ago on the web seemed to have this problem with the Dell e6500 and Firefox.

  • Dv9000 laptop dvd drive and webcam not found. drive initializes on boot but does not show up.

The DVD/CD-Rom drive will initialize and will read a CD when inserted but it does not show up in the BIOS or in Windows. It's a Lighscribe drive. The webcam was not found either. I recently reloaded this machine for a friend back to the factory setup. Installed all additional software and everything is working but the drive and the camera. Is there any way to actually test these devices for failure? Or is there a patch or a software package I may be missing? It's a dv9000 but it has dv9007 on the bottom. And an AMD processor.  If anybody has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the help.

    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
It does not show up in either one. The camera or the DVD drive.  No X's or error Triangles. I guess they could have gone bad at the same time but that's not likely. It would be one heck of a coiencidence. I am wondering if there is an alternate chipset driver or patch. Maybe a controller driver? The system has dv9000 on the display and dv9700 on the model # tag. I believe 1 is Inter and the other NVidia. But the Factory image installed the NVidia drivers.

  • Drive bay fans high rpm and whine.

High RPMs and a whining noise (i.e. fan noise) with iStat Pro widget displaying high (2,700+ rpms) for my drive bay.
I see that on my G5 one of the fans is located so that I can not blast it with canned air so as to rid it of dust build up... which is probably why there is a low decibel but high pitched noise when the drive bay fans rev up.
Any ideas on how to get to it without having to completely take my tower apart?
I've had my Energy system preference set to 'Highest' for a long time (since I read that overall this can prevent fan rpms from going extremely high) and it seems to have been okay.
But I'm guessing that over the years this one fan... which can not be blown off... has accumulated lots of dust that is causing the problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    "I've tried to monitor Console....."
Activity Monitor (AM--in Applications > Utilities) is the better reporter of what's causing excessive fan activity as it calculates the CPU usage of each process. If you have not launched AM before, its default settings will not show enough detail to help. However, all you need to do to get a full picture of the load on your processor is to change AM's "Show" option from "My Processes" to "All Processes." Once changed, that setting is retained. Looks like this:
