Drive full, add on to copied backup in new drive?

Well, I finally filled the external drive using Time Machine.
OK... got a new larger drive. Copied files from the old drive to the new thinking it will just start up from where it left off. Nope. Now it's starting a new backup. Called support. "That's the way it works"
If I want to get to older files I have to plug in the older hard drive and stop any Time Machine backup or it will remove older backups on the original drive.
How can I use the new drive with just adding onto the old copied files?

That's the solution I tried. First tried Copy Copy Cloner, gave up when didn't copy in 24 hours. Used SuperDuper which did copy but even with the clone Apple support informed that it looks for the particular drive as well as the copied files.

How to Copy backup to new ipad?

Do you mean this via icloud. Today i had my ipad3 exchanged under warranty (dust under the screen)(Thankyou apple for easy replacement). I had to set up ipad as new. Then check what ios version i had on this new ipad (it was 5) the icloud version from my previous ipad was 6 which was preventing my new ipad accepting the upload from the icloud. First i updated the software on new ipad to ios6 , after that had completed , i had to reset and erase settings again.  Then new ipad could see my old icloud account and downloaded it. All is back on. Happy days.

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

  • HT1539 can i add my digital copy to itunes with out using the disk? my netbook does not have a disk drive and i want to add my movie to my ipod can i do it with out the use of the disk and just the code?

Can I add my digital copy movie to my iTunes with out using the disk, my gateway laptop/netbook does not have a disk drive I have the unused code and everything, I just can't stuck the movie into the computer itself and my desktop computer has no internet on it. Is there a way to add my movie to my iPod touch 2nd generation tuning 4.2.1

    Hiya!
It depends on what kind of digital copy you have.  This article goes ino details regarding the two types, and depending on the type you have, you may or may not need the DVD to redeem the code.

  • How can I Copy/backup photos in iphoto to external drives smaller than iPhoto library

How can I Copy/backup photos in iphoto to external drives smaller than iPhoto library?  I have several 128 GB SSD's that I want to use to copy/backup all my iPhoto photographs for a permanent archive due to stability...but my iPhoto library is larger than the drives (about 234 GB) so it would require two of the SSD's...how best to get the original photos onto the SSD's?  I'm running Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6...thx.

Terrence - Can you explain what you mean by data loss?  In the iPhoto Library?  Or on the copy?
Larry - In what way is each photo "degraded"?  Quality?  Isn't it simply making an an exact copy, in this case a jpeg, as would happen if I dragged and dropped a different file type?  Is there another type of degradation?
I am working on trying to create a correct backup as well (per your instructions) but I wanted to use this as a "put in a fireproof safe" archive on very small SSD's that would never have a mechanical hard drive problem (we've lost a couple over time so aren't real confident in their staying power)...I also recognize that I I won't have newer photos in this archive group but at least it would have 98% of our photos in another off-site location...at least that's the thought...
Thx for your input and look forward to more in your reply...

  • VSS Full Backup VS VSS copy backup.

    Hi
My question really is where can I find a clearer explanation regarding the difference between Full Backup and Copy Backup. Since I'm not that familiar with backup, the explanation that one retains the application log files and the other clears the application log files makes me to miss the whole meaning of this.
I understand Copy Backup is to be used if you have another backup product. Since it retains the log files, that means that the other backup utility basically doesn't even know another backup took place? or am I understanding this all wrong.
    thank you.

    Hello,
When you use some backup product to back up your data (for example, a folder), the archive attribute will be cleared (meaning that this file has been backed up). If you make some changes to the data after you back up this data, the archive attribute will be selected automatically to indicate that the data has been changed since the last save. So, next time the backup utility runs, it will check all the files' archive attributes to see which data has been changed since the last backup.
You can see this attribute by clicking "Advanced" button on the General tab of the folder' property. It is the "Folder is ready for archiving".
So, if you have more than one backup product to regularly backup your files and after the initial backup some files have been changed. These changed files' archive attribute will be selected. One backup utility runs and finds that the files have been changed, it will back up these files and then clears the archive attribute. After that, anther backup utility runs, however, it will find that the archive attribute is not selected, so it will see this file as unchanged since the last backup. Conclusively, after a long time, you will find the backup files are not the same within the different backup products.
The total difference between these two options is, copy backup copies all the files that you select, but does not mark each file as having been backed up (in other words, the archive attribute is not cleared).
So, as the prompt says, choose the VSS copy backup if you are using another backup product to back up applications that are on Volumes included in the current backup.

Do I need to buy a larger Time Capsule?
Probably yes. You might be able to get the full backup of the new MacBook Pro on the Time Capsule, but it will not be long before the Time Capsule is out of space.
Better to add a new Time Capsule and backup the new MacBook Pro to the new Time Capsule, and keep the old MacBook backing up to the old Time Capsule.
If you do not want to add a new Time Capsule, another option would be to erase the Time Capsule disk and start over again with new backups of both Macs and move forward.

Time Machine will not properly backup to new 8TB glyph drive. Folder reads ".inProgress". Can't see any files.
How can I set it up to do proper, regular backups?

    8TB? holy cow.
It's likely overwhelmed and doesn't know what it's looking at.
Try using Carbon Copy Cloner instead, at least it will be bootable to use the computer.

Oh no! You restored from a backup instead of creating one! If you do not have a more recent backup anywhere, then there is no way!

  • Content copier backup has contacts etc. but won't ...

I have a problem with Content Copier backups from my E71 to my PC.
    1) I choose to backup everything.
    2) Backup proceeds, but says there was an error: on viewing logs there is nothing listed under "These items could not be backed up" heading. Backup log says contacts, messages, calender have all been backed up.
    3) On finishing backup my E71 is sometimes left with a semi-blank Home screen, and hung. Have to remove battery to get it working again.
    4) On trying to restore this backup, contacts, messages, notes, calendar aren't listed as being included in the backup.
Installing the trial version of Noki shows that the backups DO indeed contain contact details. But presumably there's something in the backup file that makes Content Copier think that contact details aren't in fact there, or that they're corrupted.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I don't think it's the phone.
I've now tested using Content Copier to do backups on my laptop. This still had PC Suite 7.0.9.2 on it, and the backup completed without error, including "Settings" to backup phone-specific settings. I then upgraded PC Suite to 7.1.18.0 and now the backup fails if I have "Settings" selected.
I've also tried completely uninstalling PC Suite and reinstalling 7.1.18.0 but I still get failed backups.
PC Suite 7.0.9.2: backup works correctly, including "Settings"
PC Suite 7.1.18.0: backup fails if "Settings" are selected to be backed up
I've opened the backup files in Write, and both failed and completed backups contain Contacts data in VCARD format (which is presumably why Noki could see contact data), but the completed backups also have another 18Mbytes of binary data that are missing from the failed backup files (presumably the phone-specific settings stuff).
It would be nice if Content Copier could allow me to extract the Contacts and Calendar data from a failed backup: the data is in there!
I've been communicating all this with Nokia Europe Support, so hopefully this will be fixed soon.

  • HT1414 is it possible to copy backup taken from my old iphone to the new one?

is it possible to copy backup taken from my old iphone to the new one?

Sure you can, as long as you still have the old backup.
I have restored my iDevices (iPod Touches, iPads and iPhone) from backups a number of times. I've done this long after the devices were setup. Sometimes I restore from a backup because I have tweaked a setting and it screwed something up on my device so I restored from a backup in order to restore the previous "non-tweaked" setting back to the device.

why did apple mail get much worse with lion osx?  I can't add recipients without copy and paste?

I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week.  As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available.  I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.
    15 minutes later:
I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out.  I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed.  I'm happy again.

  • SAP SQL System Copy backup restore method with ADS(Adobe document services)

    Hello all,
i´m preparing a system copy with ERP 6.0 in windows and SQL server with ADS.
I have a doubt, can i do the System Copy backup/restore method with ADS??
or the only method that works is with system export/import in all instances??
    Thank you

    Hi Oscar,
Is your ADS system separate from your ERP system, or are they on the same server?
In any case, you can use backup/restore to copy a Java system, but you must also make a system export/import for the Java server components.  The two work in conjunction, so that the export tool doesn't export your whole database, only the components maintained in the filesystem.  If you select the database detach/attach or backup/restore method in the tool when going against the Java system, it will prompt you at the right point in the process to make your Java export as well.
The caveat is that the Java export requires downtime, so it isn't possible to copy a Java system without impacting system availability, as it is with a pure ABAP system.
    Best regards,
    Matt
