Drive Genius shows a streak of stupidity and screws up my hard drive

I tried defragging my hard drive (so I could install something in Boot Camp) with Drive Genius (from a 10.5 partition on my external drive), and suddenly it stops. I try again, not noting the error message, and I get:
FATALDISKERROR: Overlapped extents found (extent 2 overlaps extent 1 by 1189 blocks)
I have no idea what to make of this, and so I try everything in the repair section of the app. Repair and Rebuild only show:
Repairing volume...
Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Incorrect block count for file iNode386845
(It should be 2 instead of 1)
Incorrect block count for file iNode386846
(It should be 1 instead of 3)
Incorrect block count for file iNode386850
(It should be 1 instead of 14)
Invalid extent entry
Invalid node structure
Volume check failed.
Checking for errors in the extents map...
Rebuild Failed.
I'm currently cloning my MacBook's internal drive to an image. Hopefully someone knows how to fix this mess.

Eh, crap. Forgot to close this thread.
Anyway, I was bored enough to outline this problem:
-Tried using Drive Genius to defrag internal drive, but it failed horribly somehow and caused many problems that started this horrible mess
-Used a Maintenance partition on external drive full of utilities and crap during this "incident"
-Disk Warrior fixed that, but moved files from their original spots to /Recovered Files, most of them are Xerox printer things located in /Library/Printers/Xerox; both those are deleted (Secure Empty Trash), will have to reinstall those
-AppCleaner complains about there not being a "/Library/Application Support/AppCleaner/AppCleaner Daemon" and doesn't let MB start up, making the directory and chmod 777-ing it, didn't do anything
-Backed up by CCC after all the above happened and before the reinstall and Drive Genius before all the above happened
-Tried reinstalling via upgrade method, didn't work so restored from backup
-Tried Archive and Install, worked!
Now I've traded Macs with my brother and also upgraded the RAM on both. C'est nice!

Android doesn't have this problem, any music I put on my phone is recognized as music and can be played through any of the music apps. Am I missing something or is Apple to inflexible to handle this?

You can't. The only way to get songs in the Music app is to sync from a computer or to download from iTunes.

External drive doesn't show volume when used internally (and vv)

I have an early 2011 MBP 17" where I have replaced the optical drive with the 750G hard drive that came with the computer. in the hard drive spot I put in an SSD. Recently I got a 1T 2.5" drive and I want to copy all the files from the internal 750G to the 1T and then put the 1T in the optical drive bay to replace the 750G.
I got everything copied to the 1T drive via USB - i put the drive in a USB 3.0 enclosure that I've used before with this machine. everything copied fine. so i swapped out the 750G for the 1T in the laptop. when I booted up, the drive did now show in the finder. in Disk Utility it shows up as a device and the indented volume is a greyed out and showing a system volume designation (something like disk3d or whatever the OS uses for this [I didn't make note of the specific volume name]). when I put the disk back in the USB enclosure, it worked fine.
So i formatted the 1T in the macbook, interally, and it works fine that way. but when I put the 750G in the external enclosure, thinking I could copy the files that way [external to internal]) - the 750G does the same thing: the device shows up ok in Disk Utility but the volume is grey and shows as an OS volume name. like the 1T I am not able to mount it or do anything other than format it.
So I am at a loss. why can I not copy files to an external drive and put that in the machine internally? this is the way I've done this kind of thing over the years. this is the first time I am doing this with the MBP. what can I do in order to get this to work so I can get all the files on the 750G onto the 1T and work in my MBP?
I know I can leave the 750G in the computer, connect a drive and copy it all over to it. then put the 1T in the computer and copy all the files off the external drive to the 1T. likely this would work. however a) i don't have a large enough external drive to do this with and b) i'd like to understand what is going on here and solve it as i may need to do this in the future.
any ideas?

How did you backup your internal hard drive to the external? In order to boot a Macintosh has to be partitioned using the GUID scheme and then formatted as Mac OS extended Journaled. Both operations are performed in Disk Utility. You can clone your drive to to the external using a utility such as Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. I'm not sure what you expect to accomplish without install discs. When you clone a drive you're making an exact copy. You shoud probably look at calling Apple and requesting a set of original discs or purchase a full install of Snow Leopard at http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

Have you tried resetting the SMC? The SMC (System Management Controller) has control over the charging function, so resetting it may help.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

OS X installers have always been fairly specific, hardware-wise. I haven't read anything reflecting that situation with the Recovery HD, so it may be that the Recovery HD created for the MacBook Pro does not have the necessary drivers for the Mac Pro. Obviously, nothing definitive here, but a possibility.

I am trying to Show Package contents of iMovie and it freezes at the hr.lprog folder

While doing a virus scan my machine would freeze on the file
Applications/iMovie/Contents/Resource/hr.lprog/Title-SidewaysDrifting.nib/keyedo bjects.nib.
Bitdefender said to send them the file.
I am able to "Show package contents" of iMovie, and open the Contents and Resources folder. When I try to open the hr.lprog folder, I get the spinning beach vball of death and I have to reboot my machine using the power button.
Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?
Is the hr.lprog folder just the language files for Croatia? If so, can I safely delete them, or is there more to it?

My guess would be that your hard drive has become corrupt, and the corruption is affecting something about that folder or its contents such that when the Finder tries to display them, it crashes. I would recommend immediatelyrepairing with Disk Utility. Also, if you don't have any backups, now would be a good time to start, before something bad happens.
If repairing the hard drive doesn't work, I would try deleting and reinstalling iMovie.
Also, note that I don't recommend BitDefender. Read my Mac Malware Guide, and if after reading that you want to have anti-virus software, use one of the programs it recommends. BitDefender has performed poorly in my anti-virus software testing, both in the first round and the second round of testing.

Keynote and Pages show unknown error editing tables and charts

It is about 2 weeks that I am unable to edit charts and tables in both Keynote '09 and Pages '09 via the information panel. Adding a table or chart causes an unkown error without crashing the entire program but restricting editing both object types with the implemented attributes covered at the bottom of the application's task bar.
I am running the lastest versions and OS. Deleting the plist files or font repair doesn't change anything to the situation.
Someone else experiencing this phenomenon and may found a solution?

By right click i assume you refer to ctrl key and click.
The option Show Package Contents does NOT show.
Duplicating the file and making a zip does not reveal more either.
And yes, i saved the docs and copy them to a pen drive to copy in other mac.
hv done that almost weekly since iwork came out. There were no problems before.
Are the pndrives in fault?

Verizon bill showing I texted 8012222269 internationally and I did not

Some back-story:
Ever since the "premium messaging" debacle I was involved in with regard to text messaging on my LG Env3 I have reviewed closely all text message charges on my Verizon bill. On the LGE3 I received some spam text messages from some number and ignored them; not understanding I was being charged for these messages I was receiving. I had contacted Verizon before about this issue several months ago because I thought my phone bill was unusually high. The customer representative said it was my premium messaging. Foolish me was thinking ok maybe I sent some high mgb texting or something but the Verizon rep didn't go into any other explanation than that. This went on for a few months more then I finally got ticked seeing $9.99 on my bill for the past few months and I contacted customer support again and this time this Verizon agent informed me that somehow some way my number was obtained from a third party even when I was not aware of it and I must have signed up for some service. I informed him I would never authorize someone to charge me $9.99 on my Verizon bill if I had no idea what service I was getting. He said that this was considered premium messaging which is a nice fancy way of saying 3rd parties can bill you via your Verizon bill for "services" you may not even know you are receiving just because somehow your number got in a roster of contacts that these scheming places use. I googled the number of where the messages were originating and it said something about "Fonesocial" or some such I had never heard of before. The Verizon rep this time said that they could place a block on all premium messaging on my phone and they agreed to credit back six months of these charges because I had called about them before and was offered no assistance or explanation by the customer agent i spoke with several months back when the charges first appeared. (Normally I get good customer service support from Verizon but there are times I get people who are not worth wasting my breath on) Another thing Verizon doesn't state up front is that your phone isn't automatically set to default of blocking third party messaging. You have to take the initiative to do it rather than it being set up that way to begin with which I think is a huge inconvenience and unfair to the customer because you shouldn’t have to go through a mess and receive extra charges before realizing “premium messaging” in Verizon language means “we are going to let 3rd parties text you absolute junk and charge you crazy fees then pay them while we charge your bill oh and by the way we don’t really bother to ask you if you are aware of how you got signed up for this 3rd party’s service or if you even know what you are getting”
Now....to my current issue that I wonder if anyone else has...In October I upgraded to the Apple Iphone 4. I was reviewing my recent bill and noted that I incurred $2.50 of text message charges when I have an unlimited text plan. The bill charge details gave off the appearance that these were international text messages. My thought was that when I switched to the iphone and changed data plans my block of premium messaging got removed and I was incurring text messages from this number. I called and spoke with a Verizon customer service rep today and she said that the messages were sent from my phone. I informed her I did not send the messages I do not know anyone internationally and I would not be texting internationally. I asked if I had the premium message block on and she said that yes the block was still on and she could block me from receiving text messages and calls but that she could not place a block on a text message I sent. I said again, ma’am I did not send these. She said she would try to get me some type of customer courtesy credit for the $2.50 and I said it is $2.50 that’s not a lot but my point I’m trying to make is that I did not text this number I do not know this number and you can’t tell me what was said to this number in text messages that are stated to be originating from my phone number. The first text message from my bill began on November 26th. I was flying that day…landed in Orlando Intl. airport. Then the 4th of December, two on the 13th of Dec, one on Dec 16th one on the 23rd 3 on 12/24 and one on 12/25. I asked Verizon rep if someone could have hacked my phone and she said if my number was cloned I would have incurred all sorts of phone charges on my Verizon bill so my number would not have been cloned. She said maybe someone got my phone and sent the messages I told her I keep my phone with me at all times and it’s locked. I expressed the concern of what the messages may have said given my current employment situation the thought of having messages fired off to a supposed international number referencing my number as origination point and my not knowing what the messages said causes me great concern. I could tell the Verizon rep was getting irritated with me and I was getting irritated though I kept saying I was not upset with her personally as I knew she was just doing her job but either there was a data validity issue with the Verizon billing service or someone was able to somehow send text messages referencing my number and that was what concerned me how my number could be co-opted like that and Verizon just bill me. She said that I would have to get court order subpoena for them to see what the messages said. She said that at first she thought I was just crazy and then apologized for telling me that but then she realized I must really be upset based on the tone in my voice and I wasn’t just trying to get out of $2.50 charge. I said I was very upset because there’s no explanation being provided as to how Verizon records show I sent texts to a number and I didn’t send them. These were a quarter a pop. Next month what if there are even more $$ involved. She said she had not had any other complaints like this before but did grant me the $2.50 credit after speaking to her supervisor. Still no explanation from Verizon and I had to say over and over again to the representative that I did not send these messages and there is no way anyone could have just picked up my phone and sent them. I understand that customer agents have to be skeptical of callers saying they didn't do something to incur a charge but I have been a Verizon customer for almost ten years now and I have better things to do than engage in an argument over $2.50 without good reason. I Googled the number 8012222269 and found several people complaining about receiving messages from this number but no one stating that they have been accused (via billing) of SENDING messages to this number. Has anyone else been saddled with charges of text messages to a number they did not send and HOW technically speaking is this allowed to happen? How is this NOT a data validity issue? I am well aware there are people who will take a phone and text but based on the dates and times referenced on my bill detailed charges it is just not possible. I was in a plane in the air when the first message was sent on 11/26 and I had my phone off. To add insult to injury I think the Verizon rep still things I'm just making a big deal out of this and I MUST have texted this number and just didn't realize it or someone obtained my phone and did it. In other words...no problem on their end I'm just a nut but they appreciate my patronage so they will extend a courtesy credit for $2.50. I have to say...as much as I like to laugh at the AT&T people in my office that have service bars when I've got this great Verizon coverage...I feel a bit kicked in the teeth. If the sender got a message that the Messagers were not delivered than they were never delivered and the only way for you to get them is for the sender to resent them

IPhone no longer showing up in (My) Computer and photos no longer synching

I recently switched from a desktop to a laptop, both of which run Vista Ultimate. The desktop synched fine but the laptop will not sync pictures. I noticed that the desktop shows the iPhone in Computer as a camera but the laptop does not.
I have:
1. Uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled iTunes in numerous ways
2. Manually deleted all references to Apple, Apple Computer, Quicktime and iTunes from the registry and all folders off of the hard drive
3. I have done a soft and hard reset of the iPhone
4. I have restored the iPhone to factory from within iTunes
I know it has something to do with it not showing up in Computer. And if I delete the iTunes driver from Device Manager and tell it to delete the driver from the hard drive, the PC then detects the iPhone as a camera and it shows up in Computer but it no longer shows up in iTunes and I cannot manually copy any files to it
Any suggestions would be apprectiated!!

I fixed it!
You have to go into your Pictures folder and delete the iPhone Photo Cache folder....then it will recreate it and successfully sync!!
It still does not show up in My Computer but I think if I reconnect my iPOD and enable Disk-Access, that that may resolve that small problem as well

Photos on my Mac show the wrong date when imported from a portable Hard Drive

I’ve got loads of photos that I had imported from my old PC.Last night I decided to start going through them and trying to get them sorted
prior to importing into iphoto. I discovered that some of the pictures (in particular ones I have taken from my old Iphone) all had the same date and time
assigned to them. When I checked the Exif details, it listed the correct camera etc, but the date created seems to have changed to the date I copied them to my portable hard drive.
I thought this was strange as when they were on my PC I thought they were correct. I booted my PC up and checked the portable hard drive on Windows. When viewed on my PC the pictures all have the correct time and date assigned to them. However when I plug the same portable hard drive into my Mac the same files show up as being created on a more recent date (say 20th Jan 2013).
I’ve done a lot of research last night, although I can find no forum with this exact problem, I feel it must have something to do with compatibility. The portable hard drive is FAT32, and I am assuming that in order to ensure all of the photos information is transferred correctly in needs to be NTFS.
The problem I have is how do I transfer my files again from my PC to an NTFS drive, whilst keeping all of the correct date and time information assigned to the photos. My understanding is that the 2 aren’t compatible.
Has anyone ever had this problem? It mainly seems to be with photos I have extracted from my Iphone or edited in some form by rotating them.
I have a 13" Macbook Pro Retina with OSX Mavericks installed.

What you may want to do is archive as a Zipfile the photos and then transfer them to the Mac.     It is possible some of the metadata is being lost on the FAT32 formatting.    USB Flashdrive might work better than a FAT32 formatted hard drive, as I do know that most USB Flashdrives are formatted about the same as SD media cards, which manage to preserve the data when copied from camera to Mac.    My big question is, do you still have the photos on media cards? You might just want to get a media card reader on your Mac, if the photos are not on SD cards, and transfer them over with the media card reader.
I do believe Retina MacBook Pros all have SD card readers built-in.
Note: I've asked this be moved to the MacBook Pro forum. MacBook without the secondary name refers to the consumer notebook Apple stopped making in 2011.
