Drive Mapping problem in Windows 7 Professional

We have Windows 7 Professional 32 & 64 bit installed on clients and Windows server 208 R2 Domain.
Since a long time I am facing problem in mapping drives on clients. If I map from User Account under Active Directory, it shows the mapped drive, but if I try to map any other drive manually it asks username and password. If i provide username and password
it says Access Denied. The problem only occurs on user log-in not in Administrator's log-in. Even-if I make the user Administrator, the problem appears.
The surprising thing is that user has full rights on the shared folder and if accesses it by double clicking under user log-in, I can access it. I can make short cut of it, I can access by \\servername\sharename and \\serverip\sharename under user rights.
If I try to "Save As..." any file to that folder, it says Access Denied, but I can copy and paste it manually.
I have searched a lot on Google and tried several steps like changing registry, providing full access rights on registry, but no success. In new installation also the problem appears. I am not able to sorting out it is from Server side or Client side. There
is no update on Client PC, but on server we have regular updates.
If anybody has come across such problem and found any solution please help me to get rid of it.
Thanks,
Dhavall.

Hi,
For permission settings, make sure that you have full control pemission on "NTFS"(security) and "sharing", from your description, seems that you only have a "read" permission on this shared folder, if you only have "read" permission, then you can successfully
create shortcut of this folder, access it but will get "Access Denied" when "Save as..." to that shared folder.
If you're an IT pro and want to deploy the mapped drive for many users, then you can follow this guide

Driver problems with Windows Professional XP 64bit Edition

Well, after looking around the forum here I found an answer that works! I wish I could remember who to give credit too though. I installed the latest Vista drivers and I got static all the time. I tried another members suggestion of disabling the X-Fi device in the Device manager every time I log off and then enable the X-Fi the next time I log in. I have great sound as long as I do that. Also, for connecting to a home system I am using the DTS-60, $00 on this website, but it works well if you havea DTS decoder. I am using the X-Fi extreme Music edition. Good Luck, hopefully another driver is on the way.

  • Network drive mapping Issue in WINDOWS 8 Client

    HI,<o:p></o:p>
We have 2 Win2k8 R2 Domain controller. & around 100 Windows XP & Windows 7 Client. All the network mapping which was mapped through Group policy
    is worked fine.<o:p></o:p>
Recently we have added 5 machines of WINDOWS 8 Client in our Network. We have observed that in none of the Windows 8 client machines,  Network drives are not
getting automatically mapped. I checked through Gpresulr/r to confirm that whether the policy get applied or not, All the Windows 8 client machines has GP Applied.<o:p></o:p>
I have run gpupdate & restart the machine, I have slow the network logging of Windows 8 Client, but it couldn't help me.

    Hi,
In Group Policy Preferences,is "Reconnect" option ticked? If yes, please un-tick this option and check the result. Meanwhile, please check the below post which is discussing the same problem in Windows 8.

  • AMD GPU. Driver update problem. Windows 7, BootCamp 5

    Hey .
First I describe my problems, then what I've tried and at the bottom are my computer specs.
I have an old driver for my video card , I am reminded of this when I start modern games such as Battlefield 4
When I start Battlefield 4 a window opens that says which model of the driver I have installed and that I should switch to a newer, and the latest driver model number is then specified .
I have tried to update by :
    1. Windows update . No such updates are there
    2. Go into the Control Panel , gone into the display settings ( through the " change screen resolution " ) , advanced tab, the video card , properties, driver tab, and finally update the driver. With the election "search automatically". Then I get the message. " You already have the latest drivers installed ."
    3. Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website ( amd ) and then implement step 2 ( above), but choose option : choose driver software on your computer. Then select the folder where I downloaded the files from the manufacturer's website . Then I get the same message from option 2.
    4. Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website and then run the file I downloaded . The same message comes from the game (battlefield 4) that I do not have the latest drivers installed . Although the final page in the driver-installation said: your drivers are updated. Restarting the computer does not help me off with the problem.
Uninstall the existing driver is a possible solution . However, not reliable to me. Am worried that no drivers can be installed and that I will be stuck without any driver because i Did it once and could not install the new drivers and was then forced to reinstall BootCamp because they provide drivers for eg graphics cards, mice, keyboards and so on. However, these are updated from apple's side once every 3 years, and usually in conjunction with driver issues or updates. Not like these " imperfections " that I have.
Any other options than to uninstall the drivers and hope it goes to install new from the drivers website?
    My technical data:
Computer: iMac (purchased newest model in June 2012 )
Operating System: Windows 7 64bit , through BootCamp 5 from Mac os Mountain Lion.
Graphics card: Amd Radeon 6700m 512mb
    Current driver: 13.9

I had the exact same problem and i just got this to work. Go to my computer and then right click on the disc image. Then double click on bootcamp and then setup and that should work.

access-list ICS-GTECH_access_in permit tcp host 10.2.6.200 eq https host 192.168.130.5 eq https

No it won't work because your source ports are the same as your destination ports and most connections don't usually work like that ie. your source ports are random.
In addition there is no mention of NAT rules although you may or may not need them depending on what you are doing currently.
Also can't guarantee it would work in terms of the ports but a quick internet search is all you need for that.

  • Active Directory Integration and Drive mapping

We currently have a lab with 20 Mac Pro machines, and an Xserve.. all running 10.5+. We are looking at integrating the existing users, through AD, into the Xserve. We have been able to do simple authentication and drive mapping to the windows share easily enough. However what we would like to be able to do is mount a share from the Xserve for only the Macs for the students that will be in there, while keeping the Home directory from AD intact and still being mounted.
Is that possible or I am going outside of what I am able to do?
    Thank you

If I understand what you are asking, then you will need to bind the Xserve to AD, then promote it to an OD master. This will allow you to manage the AD groups without schema modification to AD, basically allowing the storage of Apple MCX attributes. You can then create a group in OD and add the AD group to it. Then, manage the OD group and set login preferences to automount a share. Check the box to allow unique user credentials to be sent. Since you are in a Kerberos/Single sign on environment, you will be able to pull this off very easily.
During the workstation bind, make sure the UNC home path option is select and that you are choosing the correct protocol (SMB or AFP). That will allow the AD defined windows home folder to mount. Then follow the OD MCX stuff above to handle the mount of the share. You might also want to look into augmented records if you need to get management to the user level. I've had no need for this yet so I've not used it. Manage by nest AD group has always been enough because everyone gets the same stuff.
    Hope this helps

  • Server 2008R2 mapping to shared folders fails users of Windows 8.1 but seems OK on Windos 8.0 and no problems for Windows 7

Having read what I could from the related questions, the answers still elude me.  This issue apparently is specific to Windows 8.1.
    First, a little background.
1:  The server is not on a domain,  The system runs Server 2008-R2 standard with all folders shared across a standard "Workgroup" type network.  They would prefer to
    leave this layout intact.
2:  The shared folders are nothing but Data files.  There are no active system folders or anything used in an "active" environment.  They are mostly Word doc, excel
files, pdf, txt, etc.  However, due to the requirements of the software that needs to access these files, they Must
reside on a mapped network drive letter. Nothing else works due to the way the SQL database program stores the reference points back to the data.
I have had some success using what amounts to a “simulated” mapping using  WebDAV to access the server.  But access speed is a lot slower ad file size is limited.
3:  The system has been configured as-is for the past 3 years with Users all on Windows 7 x64 (mixed OS, some Home Premium, some Professional) and the only problems that come up are when
access is through an ISP that blocks port 445.  This was the original reason for finding a WebDAV/Cloud method just for those Users since they were unable to Map drives to anything on the Office Servers from their Home Internet even when using a VPN.
When Windows 8.0 became the only version available, I added a few users whose new laptops came with 8.0 from the vendors.  While there were a very few minor problems, for all practical
purposes, I was still able to provide access to the mapped folders.
As the Windows 8.1 roll-out progressed, some users were successfully upgraded while others  are still stuck in Windows 8.0.  The issues with this seem to be hardware related and vary
depending on the Make and model of the laptop.  I have been assured that eventually all of these will be able to advance to 8.1.  But this delay has given me an excellent mixed OS environment for testing.
On the users who have not yet purchased new equipment and who are still using Windows 7.  There has been no change.  Their drive mapping is stable and they can always connect as usual.
Those blocked from lack of port 445 or still blocked.  Systems inside the Office and those with ISP's who allow port 445 can use all mapped drives as normal.
Users who had Windows 8.0 and who have not yet been able to upgrade to 8.1 also have been unaffected.  Same results as Windows 7.
Users who got the Windows 8.1 upgrade as well as those that came factory loaded with Windows 8.1 seem to be a never-ending list of problems.  The ones that came native with 8.1 are worst
of all.  The list of error codes runs through everything that has to do with “communication with the server”.  As far as I have seen, this appears to be the issue.
Whether they are in the office on a wired network connection or at home on a Wi-Fi connection, the issues have the same results but the actual error codes may vary slightly.  All of
them refer back to an inability to communicate with the server.
Nothing on the server has changed in any way.  Users with Windows 7 continue to have zero problems,  Users with Windows 8.0 seem to be doing fine as well.  Only those with Windows
8.1 are affected and their problems are dramatic with everything from a total loss of drive mapping to misdirected data when the maps are active.
I have tried to make the drives automatically remap on reboot. I have tried registry modifications.  I have done everything I can think of to make a difference but the results are the same
for every system using 8.1.  The mapped drive letters invariably disappear.  Sometimes while the system is in use ( I think I have been able to trace this to times when the system enters Sleep or Hibernate) but always when the system reboots.
One detail that might point to somewhere is that the "time to connect" when mapping the drive is so long that I believe some of the original failures were due to not waiting for a
minimum of 3 or 4 minutes to give time for the Shares to show-up in order to map them.  Once the mapping is successful, the file access speed seems normal.  But invariably, the drive becomes "unmapped" repeatedly each day.
I know this was a long question but I have tried to provide every possible detail for anyone who has experienced events like this who may already have a solution.  I would even be glad
to purchase a 3rd party application if that is what it takes to get this to work.  My next planned effort is to try using Server 2013 but I am afraid that might open another can of worms for those who still use Windows 7.
I have also been told that this is in some way related to the push to "Cloud" support in Windows 8.1 OS but I do not see where this would come in.  I can say that this was the
one place where things continued to work as before.  People who had Windows 8.1 and who had to use the CLOUD copies of our data are still able to connect to it with no problems.
Any suggestions appreciated.  Preferably those that would not need extensive changes to the basic network structure.  This "workgroup" consists of less than 25 users and any
extreme measures would be hard to justify

    Hi,
I sugget you try to ping server so that we can verify the connectivity.
Can windows 8.1 access Windows Server 2008R2?
Also, please check the event viewer to see if some error log appeared when the issue occurred.

  • Client Drive Mapping (Windows) not working in SGD 4.6

I've upgrade your sgd 4.5 to 4.6. Currently we are using Virtual Desktop Connector 1.0 with VMware.
Now I'm ran into a problem with client drive mapping for Windows. CDM has changed in 4.6 from smb to rdp-protocol. So there ist no need for the Enhancement Module on the client.
CDM works well with Windows Server 2003 R2 Terminal Services, but not with Windows XP SP3. In XP there are not clientdrives in explorer. Opening \\tsclient I can see the clientdrives e.g. +\\tsclient\F (rw)+. But when I try to open the folder I get an error, telling me that I didn't have enough rights to access this share.
This happens with a regular VDI-VM (in domain) and to a fresh standalone VM. Also a direct rdp-connect to the vm from Win XP and Win 7 Remote Desktop Client works (local drives are mapped).
Is there any known problem with sgd 4.6 cdm and win xp?
I didn't find any error in the logfiles, but perhaps I didn't look in the right logs. :-)
    Thomas

We've just encountered this issue on a SGD 4.6 & Oracle VDI 3.2.1 deployment (XP Desktops), disappointed because we moved from 4.5 to 4.6 due to the expired Verisign cert therein.
Connecting to a 2008R2 Domain controller is fine, no problem and drives mapped as expected.
Have logged a service request, hopefully I've missed something obvious.

If you are using WINS the problem appears to be one of WINS name mapping.
Check if the Tarantella server is not on the same subnet as the Windows
    Terminal Server that you
are using to run your Windows applications.
You need to add the Tarantella server to each of the Windows Terminal
    Servers as a WINS server.
After that you may need to restart the Windows terminal Server.
    Hope it helps.

  • Mapping usb drive with rdesktop to windows server/XP

I have read that the -r option with rdesktop allows you to map a local usb drive on a linux pc to a windows server or XP as follows:
    rdesktop -r disk:usb=<path> <ipaddress>
I have arch installed with a base gnome so that usb drives are automatically mounted and unmounted when plugged in.
Locally I have made sure that the usb is being mounted properly.
But when I rdesktop into the windows pc and open windows explorer the usb drive appears as a network drive in the left window but no files appear in the right hand window.
Windows gives me a message that the resource is unavailable. Mu usb is formatted in FAT.
This occurs whether I use the dev address (/dev/sda1) for my usb drive or the mounted address (/media/usbstick) in the -r option.
Can anyone tell me why I am not seeing any files in windows on my usb stick?

There are a number of posts related to copying issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
    Search for: security
    Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    Click OK
     To disable Windows Search:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name. From the AirPort Utility, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab. On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • Display driver has recommended a problem for windows 7

hey !! i have dell  vostro 1015 and everyday  my laptop hangs a lot and the display driver has stopped responding. i have tried all the things to fix the display driver problem . please suggest me some options .

In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
If you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
    1. Navigate to the
    %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
    2. Copy any and
all DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop and then zip up these files.
    3. Upload the zip
containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply. Prefered sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers.
    4 (optional): The
type of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel-Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel-Dumps
in the simplest definition is a Kernel-Dump contains much more
information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel-Dump is the best choice. Do note that Kernel-Dumps
are much larger in size due to containing
much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
If you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
Upload photos and files to Onedrive.
Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUp Utilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete .DMP files upon
    use.
If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
    1. Start > type
%systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
    2. Windows key +
Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives'.
    3. Windows key +
Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
    4. Double check
    that the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it
and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.

  • Problems installing Windows 7 with boot camp, cant find the cd/dvd driver...

I´m having some problems installing Windows 7 on my new 12,1 (21,5) iMac with boot camp. When the computer restarts and the Windows 7 setup begins, i get the message that the cd/dvd driver cant be found, so i can't continue the installation. I've tried searching online for the driver, but can't find it. The cd/dvd seems to be a OPTIARC cd/dvd ad-5690h, which seems to be produced by Sony. I have a authentic windows 7. I even tried loading everything ver to a usb-drive, but then it wont boot.

After reading around on this, and other forums I tried to burn a new dvd at reduced speed(2x), but that did'nt work either... I have an authentic windows 7 iso, downloaded with serial, is there any way to boot this from a jump drive or external hdd?
