"Drive not ready" error message; synching issue

Hi- this is my first posting!
I am having problems syncing my ipod and itunes. I keep getting the error message "Drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR3 (here it has been DR5, DR3 and DR21 at different times) and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed."
Of possible relevance-I am on a network computer and this message has occurred after 1. a computer upgrade and 2. the discovery of spyware on my computer, and 3. itunes and (attempted) ipod update. (The spyware issue has been fixed, but I wasn't involved in doing that.)
A final bit of info-I have tried to change the E: drive to a different letter, like Z: but that gave me the same message.
Any suggestions?
Thanks so so much!!!

• Drive Not Ready Error Message

Hello all,
Today I tried to sync my Ipod and I got an error message that said "Drive not ready". When I turned my ipod back on, it was wiped clean. Itunes was not seeing the ipod, then it was, and finally I was able to restore it. However, when it goes to sync up after being restored, it only gets up to about song 300 until I get this error message:
itunes.exe - Drive not ready
The drie is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR3 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

• Keep getting 'NOT READY' error message when trying to re-authorize my computer after a hard drive re

need help, very frustrated
can not get it to work
also having trouble with Reader, I get a message that the book can not be downloaded because it is already in my library but it does not appear and so I am unable to read it

also having trouble with Reader Do you mean with ADE (Adobe Digital Editions), or with an ereader device.
Might be worth double-checking your authorization.
If that doesn't help, post back with more detail.
~~~~~
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0
• "Printer not ready" error message.
I get a message" printer not ready" when printing to "Adobe PDF." Have changed many settings, without success. Occurs when printing from MS Outlook, Internet Explorer, and MS Word. Any way to make Adobe Acrobat print a file as a PDF?
Dear Abhigyan,
...still no luck... AcroTray is running according to Task Manager. I tried using the "Repair" option in the Add/Remove Programs control panel item. I still get a message "Printer not ready" or simply a null response from the computer when requesting a print to Adobe PDF.
Do I need to completely reinstall Adobe Acrobat Standard XI?
Thanks anyway...
• "Message storage memory not ready" error message
Ever since I got my Nokia 2320 (which for some unknown reason is not listed on this site) back in December, it ran slow when I turned it on and took a few minutes (up to five) to what I call "recall the messages and remember it could send messages." But lately the time it takes to recall the messaging is longer and longer. A couple days ago it took me 27 hours. This time, its been 30. I read on another site about a guy who had this same message on this same phone and it had been 3 days and the problem had still not corrected itself. I want to know what is happening, why, and how to fix it. I called my carrier customer service and have been on the phone with them on and off for about a month about it. They have NO CLUE what it is. HELP!
Clean out the messages and reset the 2320. Dial *#7780# 12345 restore factory settings, keep data.
• Solaris 8 on netra T1 error - drive not ready
Hi I am hoping someone can help shed light on a problem we have encountered. I inherited a couple of very old netra t1 with solaris 8 on them. We had a major power outage whcih resulted in an issue with this server coming backup. On first looking at it i was able to get into the server via lom command prompt, i ran the power down command to gracefully shutdown and reboot but on starting backup the server is reporting 'drive not ready' and just hangs at this point.
apologies but i am a solaris novice, any help would be much appreciated. I am hoping this is something trivial....
thanks.
Just to update we suffered another power outage and returned to look at hte server to find different error messages appearing, this time the server was giving me the option to try and boot or go into single user mode, which i did and ran the metastat and got the following:-
• How do I view and open all my files again that are on my external hard drive?? Error message saying 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer' Three options are Initialize, Ignore or Eject.
I have recently purchased Toshiba 1TB hard drive and I set it up and I was able to transfer all my files onto it such as my music, photos, documents. I had correctly ejected and used it again and all these files were safely stored and accessible afterwards. However after I rebooted my computer as it had been going slow and I had too much clogging it up once I reconnected the external hard drive I have error message saying 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer' Three options are Initialize, Ignore or Eject. How do I access all my files? I set it up to work on both mac and windows. I have tried both another mac and windows computer and same issue occurs?? I am worried that all my personal files are gone but am confused as the drive has had absolutely no damage to it as it was in a very short time frame and its never left the same spot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for your quick response. I had a look at your discussion... I tried it on a Windows machine and I thought that was compatible with ExFAT?
Therefore I need to attempt to use my external hard drive with a machine that boasts OS X 10.6.5 or above and then it should work?
Thanks
• "Drive not ready" message when copying files to iPod
I have had my iPod since 2004, and no problems, until recently. After updating most recent Updater, and restoring my iPod, I went to repopulate with my music files on a hard drive, and get this annoying "Drive not ready; door is open" message. It gives me opportunity to "cancel, retry, continue", but nothing works. Have restored several times now, and always the same thing. It will let me copy a certain amount of songs (about 500 or so) and then the message. I'm using a USB 2.0, and Apple dock connector, and have tried all ports available - so I know its not a connectivity issue. Is anyone else having this trouble after installing latest Updater? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
hi
I'm having exacly the same problem. I have removed and updated everything I can think of to try to resolve this, including removing anti virus software. I can update to about 420 songs, and bang, the ipod / itunes / computer freezes. It seems that finding another computer to check whether it's the ipod or my home computer is the next option. Life is too short for this. My old MD was way less problimatic
• IPOD HELP!!! receiving 'Drive not ready: door open' message
My 3rd gen Ipod is on its last legs. For the past few months half the music on the ipod would freeze the ipod. Now ive tried restoring, resetting, reinstalling, etc etc... the thing is a paper weight. Every time i try to load new music on it, it A) freezes itunes and B) gives me a message saying, "drive not ready, door open" or somthing like that. What can i do? Anyone have this happen before and is it fixable? Am i stuck on buying a new ipod? Thanks for your help!!
Greg
I get the same error message. 3G iPod, ever since the latest updater and iTunes came out. I've reset, restored, uninstalled, etc...
Nothing fixes it.
Maybe Apple wants us to buy a new iPod?
Anyone knows what's the problem and how can I fix it?
Cheers
You either have a mechanically or electronically failed disk drive or else your Operating System (I an presuming it is Solaris on that SPARC system) is completely mucked up.
If it is the OS at issue, you will need to install everything fresh.
If it is the 18GB disk drive, you will need to replace it and install everything fresh.
Either way, at some point you will have to go get your OS installation media and install everything fresh. The solution is not that difficult to understand.
• "Not Found" Error Message Problem
Hi All!
I have a really weird issue happening that I have not found a post for in the boards, although there are some similar ones. I have a video project that I had been working on about a month ago and finished except for credits (I had no problems while working on it then). I finally just got the list of names to use for the credits, so I went to open the project to add the credits and I got a "Not Found" and "Out Of Memory" Message. I have 134.6 Gigs open on the Raid I save everything to, so I know I'm not actually out of memory. So I changed the settings to 80% Application and 50% Stills b/c I have around 10 jpegs I was using for titles in it. That seemed to help at least get the sequence opened. I then had media offline messages for those titles, eventhough they are in the browser and defined as online, so I just reconnected each one individually anyway. That helped with that problem. However, I FCP won't render the transitions around the titles. I deleted the transitions and titles and tried to re-render the video clips that were involved in the transitions with the titles. It won't render those. When I try to view the clips in the viewer, I get the "Not Found" message again. I reconnected a couple of the video clips individually, but I still get the message when I try to view them in the Viewer. The clips in the sequence are there and play in the canvas but not in the viewer and I get the "Not Found" message. I have it set to view the image without wireframes, so that's not the problem. The source videos are read as online in the browser and are in the same place as they were when I originally started the project, so that's not the problem. I've tried different variations on the memory usage. I've tried copying and pasting to a new sequence but get the same problem. Does anyone know why all of a sudden I can't view any of my source video and the clips I used in my sequence in the viewer and why it would give me the "Not Found" error message?
Some Specs that might be helpful:
FCP HD 4.5
Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5
2.5 Gigs DDR SDRAM
Raid 1 with 134.6 Gigs Available Space
SD NTSC DV Footage - MPG files I transfered originally from the client's portable hard drive
A Few JPGs of Photoshop Titles
I'm sorry this is insanely long, but I wanted to provide as much detail as I could.
Emily
They were originally on a PC. That quite possibly could be it.
I just checked all the titles again and they are all RGB.
Our Raid ocassionally has problems, so I'm thinking it might have something to do with that.
I'm going to try on Monday to just re-import the videos I need into the project and see how that goes. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll take a look on Monday and see what happens.
I was just hoping that someone might have had this problem and knew what to do.
Thanks for your help!
• Itunes.exe - drive not ready ? door is open etc
iPod ran out of power while uploading songs for iTunes, I have had many errors chkdsk etc since.
The iPod now seems to be recognized and starts downloading from iTunes but after aroung 15 songs comes up with the error message about the drive being open, the whole system then freezes and crashes.
I have updated iTunes, updated iPod, restored iPod twice, changed drive letter, ensured power to the USB hub all to no avail.
Any clues anyone ??
Thanks for replying Katrina
Everything looks okay and it even starts updating from itunes but after a random number of tracks it stops, thinks a while and then produces the error message
• Windows - Drive Not Ready - isFile()
When checking to see if a file [using isFile() ] exists on a drive I get this dialog error message in Windows XP:
Windows - Drive Not Ready
Exception Processing Message c00000a3Parameters 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c
I get this message if there is no media in the drive such as if I make the check on an empty floppy drive.
Is there any way to check if their is a media in the floppy drive before deciding to check if there is a certain file on it with isFile()?
Trying to catch the error does not seem to work - the error seems to originate from somewhere in the OS rather than from java.
How do I get rid of this error message? I have upgraded to JDK 1.5 - the problem did not occur in JDK 1.2 so somehow that earlier version was able to avoid this problem.
This is part of the code:
String iniFileName = DEFAULTINIFILENAME;
File[] possibleRoots = getAllPossibleRoots(); // Mostly a call to File.listRoots() with some fixes
File possibleIniFile = null;
Vector allFoundIniFiles = new Vector();
for (int possibleLocationNo = 0 ; possibleLocationNo < possibleRoots.length ; possibleLocationNo++) {
possibleIniFile = new File(possibleRoots[possibleLocationNo], File.separator + iniFileName); if (possibleIniFile.isFile()) {
allFoundIniFiles.add(possibleIniFile);
} // if
} // for
This should run on its own - just compile it and run it on Windows XP - using jdk 1.5 for instance. I checked on jdk 1.4 and it also gave the error.
The error is that this dialog window appears:
Windows - Drive Not Ready
Exception Processing Message c00000a3Parameters 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c
// package testappl.sscce;
import java.io.File;
import java.util.Vector;
public class DriveNotReadyErrorMessage {
private static String DEFAULTINIFILENAME = "myconfig.ini";
public DriveNotReadyErrorMessage() {
File[] possibleIniFiles = getAllAvailableDefaultIniFiles();
/**Looks in all possible root locations and returns the found ini files.
private File[] getAllAvailableDefaultIniFiles() {
File returnIniFiles[] = null;
String iniFileName = DEFAULTINIFILENAME;
File[] possibleRoots;
possibleRoots = File.listRoots();
/* Nota bene. The error message due to an empty floppy drive
* can be avoided by calling:
* FileSystemView fsv = FileSystemView.getFileSystemView();
* and then checking if:
* ((fsv.isFloppyDrive(possibleRoots[a root no])) == false) { }
* but this just avoids the error message if the floppy is empty - not if other drives have no media.
File possibleIniFile = null;
Vector allFoundIniFiles = new Vector();
System.out.println("Now checking for possible configuration file: " +
possibleIniFile.toString()); // Line added for debugging purposes only. Error appears here from what I can see
if (possibleIniFile.isFile()) {
allFoundIniFiles.add(possibleIniFile);
• Drive not ready
When I try to boot the CDROM from the ok Prompt I get an error.
Below is the error I get from my E450:
? 'mfg-options' environment variable invalid
Can't open input device.
screen not found.
Can't open input device.
Keyboard not present. Using ttya for input and output. Keyboard not present. Using ttya for input and output.
rebooting with command: boot cdrom
Can't open disk label package
Evaluating: boot cdrom
Can't open boot device
Im having a really hard time trying to fix this problem. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance!
I've got the exact same issue with an Ultra 60 on which I'm attempting to install Solaris 9. I've tried replacing the drive, replacing the CD, using the external SCSI connection and nothing works. Each time I attempt a boot cdrom I get the following error:
Boot device: /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@6,0:f File and args:
Drive not ready
Can't read disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device
probe-scsi-all shows that my drive is being recognized.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide.
• Scanner Not Found Error Message on My Computer
5 years ago, I got an HP inkjet printer and after it was installed, I could never get the scanner to work. I always got an error message (can't remember the wording). Last month, I got a new HP laserjet printer with a scanner, and it is installed, but again, I get an error message when it comes to scanning. This message tells me that there is no scanner found on my computer.
Today, from the panel on the printer, I was able to open up the scanning option. It looks like the only options are to send the scan to an email or to have the scan sent to a flashdrive (USB port). So, if I want to scan a picture, how do I just scan the picture and save it in my documents? Why is the only option to send it in an email or a flashdrive or a network folder? If I try to access the scanner from my computer (instead of using the panel on the front of the printer), it doesn't look like the scanner is connected to the computer even though it is (I went into system preferences and found the printer and both printer and scanner are connected with this new printer).
So, my question is two-fold; why do I get this message saying my scanner is not found on my computer and is the only way to use the scanner is to have it connected to the internet or a USB port, and if so, how do I connect it to my email address or network? I guess I would have to email the scanned picture to myself if I want it on my computer or save it on a flash drive? Thanks for any help.
This question was solved.
Hi @awestruck ,
I see that you are getting a "scanner not found" error message. I would like to help you out today, but I will need to know some more information.
What is the full name and product number of your printer? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Depending on which model you have, the features are different.
You should have the HP Software installed for scanning from the computer. You can also use Apple Preview, Apple Image Capture or Print & Scan.
What software are you using to scan with?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
Have a nice day!
Thank You.
