The new update to AT&T Drive Mode app turns off the touch screen lights and the blue indicator lights on the Samsung Galaxy S5! This needs to be fixed in the next update!!!

Reset your iPhone. You won't lose any data or purchased items.
Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
my apps and get rid of the notifacation.
That should clear the update issue.

There are a number of extremly dubious sites which claim to offer Drivers for common Hardware, but actually are phishing for identies and credit card numbers and candidates to join a bot-net.
Make absolutely certain you load drivers ONLY from the manufacturer's web site.

  • Cleaning out startup drive safely of Leopard machine

I have a 500G startup drive in my MacPro and Leopard on it. I want to move to SL and I also need more space for my Aperture Library. I ran WhatSize to see what was taking up so much room and have started moving photos and other nonessential stuff off....but also see that there are folders inside the Library/Application Support folder of both the main machine and user that don't seem to have utility right now = some are supporting apps no longer on my machine and some I don't know why I have them.
For instance, I have TechTool Protection folder inside Library/ApplicationSupport and it takes up 5G - if I no longer have an application on the machine can I safely delete the folder inside the Library/AppSupport folder of the machine and of the user???
I will be moving to SnowLeopard but want to address the cleaning out process first.

Within the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder it's safe to remove contents belonging to uninstalled applications. This is also true for the /Library/Applications Support/ folder provided you limit it to third-party applications no longer installed. However, do not start removing other files and folders from the /Library/ folder as they belong to the operating system.
If you plan to uninstall third-party applications and software then do so properly:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Surface Pro 2 Graphics driver stops apps running

    Hi,
We are having trouble with a Surface 2 Pro with Windows 8.1. Apps such as onenote, facebook and several others do not load past the splash screen(they appear open when swiping in from left).
The resolution of the tile screen appears to be lower than it should be, but all settings indicate a 1920x1080 resolution.
Disabling the graphics card fixes the problem, but causes several other undesirables. Rolling back the driver fixes the problem, but the default driver is insignificant and after every reboot/auto-update the apps stop working again. I have downloaded the
updates and service packs and manually installed the graphics driver, but the apps start to fail as soon as the graphics driver updates.
When the driver is disabled/roll backed more tiles appear on the home screen, even though the resolution is lower.
Does anyone know how i can upgrade the driver, without losing app functionality?
    Regards
    Chris

    Hi,
I have ran all updates and it says its fully updates, and I attempted to manually install device driver 10.18.10.3345,
which I downloaded from the intel site but it was 'not accredited for the platform'.
Its the 128GB version. The problem only started after upgrading to 8.1. I'll post the event logs asap.
    Thanks

  • When I download an app while running iTunes from an external hard drive, the app is automatically saved to the my music folder on my desktop.

Also, when I move an updated app from the my music folder to the external hard drive, it no longer automatically deletes the old version of the app in the folder.

Hi, I was waiting for somebody with experience to pipe in, but as I understand it it'll be that way for upto 5 users if your Sharing iTunes.

  • Can't eject FW drives - says app is open, yet none are open

This is mildly disturbing:  After only 6 months of use, I just got a "Can't eject drives" and something about data being "used" or an app being open, yet *no* applications are open - everything was quit / closed before I chose to eject the drives.  Just like I've done for 10 years on Macs.
The warning prompt showed an option to "force eject" which I did not do, nor did I chose "try again".  I stopped trying to eject.  Then, even *more* disturbing, I clicked on one of the drives and it showed "0 items" on the drive.
I restarted and now the drives appear normal.
Just prior to this happening, I had an additional self-powered Glyph drive at the end of the daisy-chain.  Disturbingly #3:  while this drive was connected, I received a warning prompt that said "drive wasn't ejected properly" and it disappeared from my desktop.  I had done nothing to cause this, it simply happenend.  I'm guessing this issue is due to the self-powered factor - I probably should have had this closer in-line to the Mac FW800 bus.
Would this daisy-chain scenario cause the non-eject problem?
    Here is my setup:
FW800 out to older Glyph drive via FW400 connection, then daisy-chained to two *brand new* Glyph drives via FW800 connections.  ALL drives were formatted properly when I purchased them.
    OS 10.8.5
I remember this happening on 10.7, 10.6, 10.5 etc...  Hasn't Apple figured this out?
Is there a Disk Utility I should run to make sure all my drives are ok?

I don't think that's the case because the drive successfully ejects upon closure of the QT player. I'm not sure if it is the way they wrote file handling in general in Mountain Lion, or if it is a QT Player 7 issue, but it is definately annoying.
It seems that the Volume becomes locked when a file is opened. When that file is closed, the Volume remains locked until the application that opened the file is closed. This seems to work different than it used to.

  • Epson print driver crashing apps

For several weeks now I have not been able to print to my Epson 2200. I am running X.5.6. Have the most recent Epson drivers installed. When I go to print every thing is fine up until the point I try to change the print settings in the dialog after pressing the print button.
Any app will just crash when accessing the print settings.
I have searched to no avial trying to figure this out.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver numerous times. Including trashing every Epson file I can find before reinstalling.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

  • OSX on external drive - MAS apps damaged when changing computer

    hi,
i have my osx mountain lion installation on an external harddrive (ssd, thunderbolt connection)
and i'm doing it for a long time without problems. everyday i change the computer 2 or more times.
    home -> office -> home ....
since a couple of days a lot of apps puchased in mac app store dont start anymore. the icon
bumps just once, the login window "you didnt buy this app on this computer ...." pops up. this is
ok, i login and then - some seconds later an error popup pops up.
    e.g.
“Renamer.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. Delete “Renamer.app” and download it again from the App Store.
app deleting and downloading/installing agian works. until i connect on the next computer. then
    the **** starts again.
this unusual work process worked all the time, so i dont know waht to do. downloading and installing
apps all the time, twice a day cant be a solution.

    i just startet a test.
    1. clean mountain lion install on a new external usb hard drive
    2. after all the only thing i did was to login into mac app store and reload 2 of my purchased apps
    3. apps work
    4. shutdown and start the hd on another mac
    5. apps dont work with the described error
    6. shut down and start again on the first mac
    7. apps work
the problem was suddenly there, no updates or upgrades in the last time. the apps worked
after upgrading to 10.8.2. and suddenly nothing works anymore. in my opinion this must
be a mac app store bug. it would be very strange if so many apps from one day to another -
without updates - dont work anymore.

  • ICloud Drive iOS app?

Hello, This may of been posted before but I wanted to know if there is or will be an iCloud Drive app for iOS or any other OS?

For Windows and OS X, there already is. Pretty much any browser (www.icloud.com). For iOS, I suppose it is possible, but the approach to iCloud is still pretty much direct integration with the apps that can do the work with the stored file (iWorks Apps, any third party app that is designed to use iCloud). Documents by Readdle connects to Drive. There may be some others in the app store.

  • Replace drive via APP or buy one myself?

After some odd sluggishness recently, the HD on my trusty ol' iMac suddenly made a noise for about 15 seconds earlier that sounded like somebody was playing the castanets in the case.
After it stopped (and my heart started again), I SuperDuped the contents to my external LaCie drive and booted from it.
I've yet to run the Extended Hardware Test but that noise earlier really suggested something ain't right.
Assuming the good people at my local Apple store find fault with it, I'm assuming they'll replace it since I still have some months on my Plan. (An early adopter, I bought the iMac and APP in Oct. 2004.) But I'm wondering if I could get a "better" HD than they'll install for not a whole lotta money. (I'm not concerned about doing the installation.)
Or will I get a decent HD - and avoid the shopping (and installing) hassle - if I just let Apple do it?
    Thanks in advance
    20 iMac G5 (Rev A)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB RAM, 250GB Maxtor 7Y250M0, 250GB LaCie FW external

But I feel a bit limited by the fact that I [foolishly] bought a 250GB for my external drive. While a larger internal would be really nice, I still have copious space on my internal 250. (I'm one of those librarians who appreciates the advantages of "weeding" from time to time.) If I had a bigger internal drive, I fear I'd start keeping more and more - I've noticed that data does tend to "expand" to fill available space. Then I might find myself in a position of backing up to an external drive that isn't large enough to contain everything on the internal.
I imagine there are ways I could compress data for the backup drive and/or backing up select data to the external while burning other data to DVD-RW's - but that sounds like a lot of work. I'm basically a lazy guy and I love the no-brainer way of using SuperDuper to do a Smart Backup.
So, if the free replacement drive Apple will give me is a decent brand, then I guess I'll go that route and save my pennies for a larger external in the hopes that, some day, I'll get a larger internal.

  • Hard Drive Optimization - app HD

Due to some wierd things going on with pro apps after installing SL - I am doing a fresh Install of SL and reinstalling all the apps. I am also taking this time to add a couple new HD's to the system.
Has anyone here installed their apps (pro apps) on a different drive than the startup disc and noticed any performance gain? Or waste of time?

    Hi Japamac,
The most accepted use of hard drives for performance is to have the OS and all applications on one drive.
Some apps do not behave well when on a drive separate from the OS.
On another drive, keep all user files (the entire Home directory).
A third drive is then dedicated to be used as scratch for the temporary files of the pro apps.
I have just connected a Vertex EX 60GB SSD in the lower optical bay of my 2009 Mac Pro, and I have done a clean install of the Mac OS and all my applications. This has taken up less than 25GB of space, and so there is ample left for me to add other applications such as Photoshop CS5 when it is eventually released. At the moment I have installed Photoshop Elements 8.
The VelociRaptor 300GB HDD, which I was using before, has been erased, and I have used it with 3 other VR300s to set up a 4 drive striped RAID 0. I used Disk Utility for this purpose. So I now have a 128GB volume (Speedy) for use as a scratch drive, and a 1.07TB volume (Data).
Before I erased the first VR300 I cloned a copy of it to my original Mac (WD) 640GB HDD in an ONNTO external enclosure, and I will keep this as a back up boot drive. Also I have everything backed up via Time Machine on a My Book Studio Edition II 2TB external drive.
So, excluding the external drives, I now have 3 volumes - the Vertex EX boot, the Speedy scratch, and the Data.
The Vertex EX is in a "virgin" state at the moment, with the clean install of the OS and applications, and is running like a dream - very, very fast!
As you recommend, I want to leave just the OS and applications on the Vertex EX.
    (1) Can I use Migration Assistant to transfer everything else (the user files etc) from the Vertex EX to the 4 drive RAID 0, using the "From a Time Machine backup or other disk" method?
    (2) Am I correct in assuming that these should be transferred to the "Data" volume?
    (3) Is the "Speedy" scratch volume left blank, and is the OS clever enough to use it for temporary files of the "pro apps", as and when beneficial?
    (4) Or do I need to do anything else to "dedicate" it for that purpose?
These might seem silly questions to an experienced user, but this is a completely new set up for me.
Now for a very daft question:
When I erased the Vertex EX, I named it Vertex EX.
However, when I partitioned it (1 partition), I omitted to name the volume. So I now have a volume named "Untitled 1" which I want to re-name "Vertex EX Boot".
I thought it would be simple to do this, but I can't find a way to achieve this in Disk Utility, because, when I select "Untitled 1", none of the 4 options (First Aid, Erase, RAID, Restore) have the facility to do this. I don't want to use any of those options anyway, but I had hoped that I could have changed the name without actually progressing any further.
    (5) Is there a simple way for me to rename that volume? I expect there is a way using Terminal, but that is a total unknown to me!
    Regards,
    Biltan

  • How to eject USB drive safely when it isn't mounted?

    Hi,
I bought a USB 3.0 splitter on eBay and took it to the test. I put in four devices but only three of them showed up. I have tried to search a bit but I couldn't find any solution. As far as I know, the hard drive isn't mounted but it is running.
I have had this problem some time ago but I think I just pulled the drive out that time. I don't want to risk damaging the hard drive because it contains important data. This didn't happen before I (unfortunately) upgraded to Yosemite and have had some other faults too.
Does anyone of you know how to eject the hard disk properly?

If it’s not mounted, it can just be unplugged. To double-check, choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu; if all the volumes on a drive appear in gray in the sidebar, it can be safely unplugged. If the drive doesn’t appear at all, the computer doesn’t recognize that it’s connected, and it can be safely unplugged.

  • Lumia 625 - HERE Drive etc. apps no longer work af...

Hi there! Last week or so we upgraded my wife's Lumia 625 to Windows #8.1. A few days later she went to use the HERE Drive, HERE Maps and HERE Transit apps and they no longer work! They still appear on the apps listing, but when you select the app to start it - all she geta is a splash screen and nothing, it returns to the app listing - except for HERE Transit; it actually starts but after a few seconds it dies too and we end up back at the apps listing!
    Anybody know what's going on?????

I have maps, don't have any update but Mostly the problem is with Drive+; I can select a destination, but as soon as I select 'start' the app closes! I've not found anything official from HERE/Nokia/Microsoft!
Did you try uninstall - reinstall of the HERE Maps and HERE Drive+ applications ?
Also delete any maps data .. and reinstall fresh maps ..

  • DVD Drive & Burner App Issues

Hey guys, I've searched the forums for several days on this but can't see to find the fix.
I've been running Arch for about 2.5 years, upgrading daily, and all was going well, but yesterday I decided to do a fresh Arch install.  The new install went fine and I'm using it now, but I'm having some troubles with my DVD drive and any CD/DVD burner apps that I try to use.  Those same apps worked perfectly in my old install.
K3b now launches very slowly on the first start but it does detect both, my dvdr, and cdrw drives.  However, on a K3b restart during the same Linux session, it only sees the cdrw drive.  If I reboot and restart K3b, the process is repeated.
Graveman just hangs on trying to detect my drives on the first start, and it has to be killed manually.  It never gets past detecting the first drive.
    cdrecord gives this:
    $ cdrecord -scanbus
    scsibus1:
    1,0,0 100) 'PLEXTOR ' 'DVDR PX-740A ' '1.01' Removable CD-ROM

    $ cat /etc/fstab

    /dev/sda6 / ext3 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda7 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/sda8 /home ext3 defaults 0 1
I didn't have any modules in rc.conf before the new install and all worked well, so I didn't put any there this time either.  I've tried reinstalling K3b, Graveman, and the kernel, but none of that helped.
It seems to me that this all has something to do with the new drive naming scheme, but I'm not sure.
Anyone have any clues on a fix for this one?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi, T-Dawg
Yep, graveman still hangs, so it might not really be K3b's fault, but a possible kernel problem instead.  However, the current kernel works fine with the previous version of KDE.  In the bug report mentioned above, someone claimed this issue will be fixed with the 2.6.22 kernel, so I guess we'll know soon enough.
Command line burns work perfectly so I'll keep using that and skip on hard coding the device to sr0 for now.  Might do that if the new kernel doesn't work, though.
    Thanks for your help.

Edit:  I've tried k3b 1.0.3-1 that just came out earlier today, but it has the same problem.  Gotta go all the way back to version 1.0.1 to get things working again.
