Drive space disappearing for no apparent reason. what could be causing?

As the subject says, I have an issue with space on my drive being filled by something throughout the day. If I restart, some but not all of the space willl come back and eventually I need to restart again because I'll have 0kb of available space. At that point, I can't get incoming mail, IMs etc. Any ideas as to what is going on? Any additional information I can give to help figure out the problem?
This morning I had about 600MB free, it dropped to 0kb in the afternoon, I restarted and it was about 480MB and iit was empty again this evening. If you "get info" on the drive you can watch the space disappear. Please help!

That's a disaster waiting to happen! You need to keep roughly 15% free at all times!
You need to delete some stuff immediately or you'll start losing data (if you haven't already), or worse!

Open System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects
Select: Play user interface sound effects
And make sure the Mute box is not selected.
Now open Mail. From the Mail menu bar clik Mail > Preferences then select the General tab.
Make a selection from the: New messages sound pop up menu.

They might actually be the same Apple ID. When you have an email and use it to log into iCloud it will create an iCloud alias for you. I have an @live.no appleID, which also has an @iCloud.com alias that are otherwise identical.
If you log into applied.apple.com with the @gmail.com account you should see the @iCloud.com as an "alternate" email address.
You might also have created a new iCloud account/Apple ID when you used iCloud the first time. Then this @iCloud.com will not be connected to you @gmail.com address or any other mail addresses. You can then log out of that Apple ID at Settings>iCloud and log in with this @gmail.com Apple ID and sync contacts.

Safari Just Stopped Working for No Apparent Reason -- What's Up?!

I'm new to this group, and I really hope someone can help...
For no known reason, the other day my Safari browser started to load VERY slowly and then eventually it quit. Apart from temporary trouble with broadband service, nothing has changed in my computer set-up. Now I can't even load Safari without it stalling and then quitting or 'hanging'.
I tried resetting Safari in the Preferences tab, and also testing all plug-ins and then re-installing (it only gave me the option of upgrading to the same version of Safari i had been using) -- all to no avail.
Any ideas?

TS1702 What if permanent apps disappear for no apparent reason?

I have the 3rd generation iphone and i have a very little number of apps.
I've been looking for my youtube, safari, itunes and app store on my iphone and cannot find them on any of my pages.
I've tried searching for them and cannot find them that way either.
I can still access the wifi through google but if i wanted to save a webpage through google
i'd have to go through the safari app and the missing safari doesn't load.
I've also noticed my boughten apps i can move around like normal but i cannot delete them on my iphone.
I've tried turning it off and turning it back on while holding the home button the ^volume button and the power button and it's still the same.
On my computer, my itunes is updated.
In itunes i have all my apps all updated and same as my iphone software.
My iphone still is missing the 4 apps.
But just a few hours ago ive decided to restore it,
and even after restoration the 4 apps are still missing,
and i cannot sync any of my purchased apps onto my iphone.
But everything else, music, movies, photos, calenders, contacts, etc. are all there.
How do i get my phone capable of syncing purchased apps from my comp again?
How do i get my missing 4 apps back?
What's wrong with my phone?
How can i prevent it next time?

I powered my phone off, then powered on. After that, the phone was able to sync with the computer. Hope that works

No sound on HP Envy 14 Beats Edition. Sound disappeared for no apparent reason.

HP Envy 14 Beats Edition laptop (product QE295UA#ABA) running Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1 (build 7601, service pack 1).
I don't recall running any software updates. I've confirmed that no mute buttons are on. I've tried the Windows troubleshooter for Playing Audio/Speakers and Headphones but the software does not detect any problems. I've tried reinstalling the driver to no avail.

Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53281.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

Strange Problem: Apps disappeared for no apparent reason

I updated my 3GS the first day the 4.0 update came out. I didn't have any problems. This Tuesday (the 6th) I woke up after my alarm went off on my phone and all of my apps were gone! I hadn't done anything weird to my phone... I didn't plug it into iTunes or my computer the night before or even the week before. So I'm not sure why they mysteriously disappeared. Does anyone have an idea why this happened?

During a recent project of putting our best family pictures from the past five years in a photo album, I noticed some of them are not really there. The small image is there, but when I click on it I get an error message that the picture is gone. Where did they go? And can I get them back? At first it was just a few pictures. Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

I would navigate to the 10.6.8 update combo page and download and re-install 10.6.8. It's possible your download was corrupted somehow. After downloading and installing the update reboot from the 10.6.x install Disk, hold down the Option key at the startup tone and choose the Install Disc. Choose the language then click the Utilities menu and Repair Disk Permissions (2x) in Disk Utilities. Then exit and restart the computer normally.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Optical Drive Accesses for No Apparent Reason

I have a new HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with Windows 7 64-bit OS. My question concerns accesses to the optical drive for no apparent reason. While it seems reasonable that when booting up the system the firmware will check the optical drive to see if there is a startup CD in it I do not understand other apparent attempts to access the optical drive. For example, after bootup and running within Windows 7 I attempt to play a mp3 music file residing on the hard disk I can hear the optical drive being accessed. Specifically, I double click on a mp3 file on my hard disk but before the music player application pops up I hear several clicks and clacks as the computer checks the optical drive for a disk...I assume. Is there a setup file someone where this kind of activity is enabled? IMHO, the computer should not be attempting to check the optical dirve when attempting to play a mp3 file on the HD.
Another scenario I've noticed is during the logon process. Specifically, as the computer boots up there is a typical click-clack of the optical drive as the firmware checks to see if there is a startup CD in the drive. Next, Windows 7 in up and running but sitting on the user logon screen. When I type my password to log onto my account I hear more click-clack accesses to the optical drive. This may be a typical thing for Windows 7...I'm not sure as I'm new to Windows 7. However, the description I gave above concerning playing of mp3 music seems odd.
The sound I hear is definitely not the hard disk. It is the same sound that the optical drive makes if you open the drive and close it without inserting a disk. That is, the laser tracking motor moving the laser pickup from the outer edge to the inner edge and back to check to see if a CD or DVD is sitting in the drive. Playing an mp3 music file residing on the hard disk causes this to happen. It only happens once when starting up the music player.

What is the media application you have in the computer? Such as Intervideo windvd. cyberlink etc…
Few applications keep checking the media even though these applications are not in use. Fixes for such applications are posted on respective support websites, you may want to check and update. or if you do not wish to use such applications you can try un-installing these applications and verify the functionality.

Next time you want to put your iMac screen to sleep, try switching off the Magic Mouse, wait for the notification to come up on the screen telling you the Magic Mouse has been disconnected, wait for it to disappear then press the keyboard shortcut to put the screen to sleep. See if that helps and we'll go from there. If that doesn't help, can you just say wether the screen always turns back on the same time every time?
