Drive stuck in ultrabay

I have a T60P with a hard drive stuck in the ultrabay. The little button that pops out the lever will not move. I did get the handle to pop put with some force. But when I pull on the lever the drive won't pop out. I even tried pulling on the lever with a pair of pliers.
Is my only option taking it apart?
It is not under warranty.
Thanks

Same thing just happened to me, I have an ultrabay battery that I need to remove and now can't. It charges and everything but I just can't make the little lever come out. The button that is supposed to make it come out is looser that usual, when you push it it's silent and when it comes back it clicks a bit. I was able to take the battery out by almost bending the computer's bay, which I don't like to do. I put my finger in and when I push the mechanism that follows the button on the inside the lever does come out but obviously I can't do that when the battery is in...
Any hopes I could fix this myself? It might still be under warranty but I really need that comp.
Thx!

  • Bluescreen reads "device driver stuck in continuous loop"

I have no knowledge of computers at all. I have had my laptop for about 18 months I purchased it new online while living in London and it has had this problem basically from the beginning but I was slack and didnt try to get it fixed on warrantee.
It will turn on and work for a random period of time (sometimes 10 mins and sometimes 2 hours) then suddenly the screen goes blue and it reads a lot of numbers (I can get these and write them if required) and states "device driver stuck in a continuous loop beginning dump of physical memory, contact manufacturer for update on device. . . ."
I have no idea what this means or what I should do/who I should ask etc.
    Can anyone advise me please?

    Hi!
Its not easy to say what is wrong.
First of all, which notebook do you have exactly?
In your position, I would first check the RAM. There are some special tools and I do this always with Memtest86.
You can download an ISO image to burn it on a CD from [www.memtest86.com]
Boot from CD and test your RAM, maybe you will get some errors.
You can also reinstall Windows with the recovery disk. It could be a software or driver issue.
If you have more questions, I will try to help you.
    Bye

  • Screen Goes Blank, Hard Drive Stuck, Cannot Re-Install, or recover

I have somewhat a bizzar problem that even with several years of IT experience I seam not to be able to figure it out. I thought I toss it our here at Toshiba community in hopes of people's collective experience shedding some lights on my problem.
I hava a 3 year old Toshiba Sattellite A305D with updated BIOS to version 2.10. It came with Windows Vista Home 32bit and I had upgraded it to Windows 7 64-bit last Christmas. It was working fine till last month that I started getting sporadic blank screens. Here is the symptome with details: screen goes blank, backlight it on, but there is no content on screen. At this time the Hard Disk Drive activity light is steady lit. Initially the problem happened intermitently and sometimes it fixed itself after few minutes and screen would come back on, but when it started to happen more often, I started to look for some troubleshooting. Some people suggested that blank screen could be due to bad lid close button being stuck or Windows power management's CPU power being set to 5%. I have tried cleaning the lid button and fixing power management but no luck. Then, I tried re-installing Windows from DVD, screen never went blank till after the first few steps of setup to the point that it says "Extracting Windows Files". At this time I started to think this is a hardware issue. I took out the RAM, I installed it on my MacBook Pro and used it for few days, and I had no problem. I even diagnosed them with Windows Memory Checker in the list of Recovery Options and no problem was detected. So, the next suspecious thing was the video card or display inverter. I tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor to test the screen's inverter, and same thing happened and external monitor went blank. I used Windows Recovery options and left it on that screen over night and nothing happened so I concluded the video card is fine. Next, I had turned off the Wifi and Lan, but nothing seamed to change, so I concluded those are OK as well. My last coclusion was that the hard drive is bad. I took the drive out and coonected it to my Desktop PC and ran disk utiility scan to check for bad sectors and none was detected. So, I thought the drive might be totally broken. I went to local electronics store and bought a brand new HITACHI SATA II drive and installed it. At first same thing happened so I gave up. Since I didn't have the recovery disks, I ordered recovery disks from Toshiba and tried that. Save thing happend and as soon as it started copying files, it blanked out. OK. So this time I ran a different recovery option and formatted the entire hard disk and zeroed out all sectors. That took approximately 3 days to finish for a 500GB brand new hard drive. Seams a long time. After that I could install Windows 7 64-bit from scratch up to the end. However, things got gorry again when I started installing Updates and driver packages. I had read about some problems with ATI drivers and Catalyst software with .NET updates, so I did not install any driver from update site and made sure all .NET updates are installed. I had to install the updates slowly chosing a few at a time. Otherwise same thing would happen. I got stuck to the point that I could not update anything. Windows files seamed to be corrupt and turning on/off Windows Features in controll panel was blank, so I had to re-install again. I did Re-install successfully using the upgrade option. This time I installed .NET updates first before any other updates. Then I started downloading all Toshiba drivers. Aazingly, the laptop worked for few ours without the symptom. I managed to install most of the drivers and updates including Value Added Package, HDD/DVD Rom Patch, Registry Patch, Sound, Modem, Atheros Wireless, and Catalyst. Up till now things were ok. Then I ran Toshiba Hardware update patch, and things got really messed up. Windows never booted again and symptoms showed right after boot tried to load WIndows. I tried recovery options but System restore kept getting errors too and I could not restore any more. Since Windows 7 Install and Windows Vistal recovery to Factory Default from recovery disk did not work, I thought maybe I should try Windows XP. So, I got a hold of my old Windows XP CD-ROM and I took a stab at it. Everything went fine till it started to copy windows files. This time symptom was different. I got one of those XP Blue Screen of deaths saying Hard Drive is bad and I must run chdsk /F. So, I concluded HDD is the problem. Ran CHDSK and no problem. I formated the drive again using DISKPART and the problem still exists. This is a brand new hard drive. What is the problem?

Please include your full model number when posting problems on the forums. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop. "A305D" is only partial.
That's quite the problem. How often was it doing this? At some steps in your diagnosing, it seemed to get better, but I wonder if it was actually (temporarily) fixed, or if it didn't occur by chance.
Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. Normally I'd suggest you get it serviced, but then you'd also be throwing more money at a three year old notebook when clearly you're knowledgeable yourself.
Hopefully someone in the community will have some suggestions. I have noticed that some people shy away from posts with large paragraphs of text. (I'm not saying that's correct, but it happens.) I'd suggest putting some bullet points at the top summarizing. If you feel like doing that, you can edit your message.
    Good luck!

  • Here Drive stuck on 'Looking for GPS"

Running version 3.0.4087.0 on Samsung Ativ S (in Canada). Nokia Drive seems to find my location without any issues for a short period of time. Later when launching it just shows "Looking for GPS" in the status bar and cannot find my location at all.
Location services are turned on for the phone and the app. All other mapping apps on the phone (including Here Maps) find my location very rapidly.
Yesterday I tried uninstalling and re-installing Here Drive but the "Looking for GPS" error is back again today.

Yup, me too. I love the Here Drive (on my Lumia 810), and it's been working perfectly well until last week. Now it's stuck on looking for GPS and showing as start location the place I was last week when I used it the last time.
Please, need to get this fixed! Nokia MAPs work just fine but not HERE Drive.
I have latest updates on both the phone and my Here drive. I uninstalled the app, and re-loaded it yesterday from the app store. Same thing again. Thought it may be due to being inside of the building, went out, changed locations, drove a bit and nope still not working. It's stuck. I've left it running for more than an hour and no luck what so ever.
A colleague with Lumia 920 has the same problem.
Not question of having a case covering the antennas either, his does not have a case, I took mine off the case, and the result is still the same, looking for GPS.
    Please get this fixed ASAP!

Just attempted to reset a hard drive on our T61 to its factory settings (Windows XP) using the "Recovery CD Set"  (rescue and recovery cd, supplemental product recover cd, and 6 product recovery cd's).  During the final step, the computer reboots itself; however, Windows can't load.  I keep getting an error on a small blue screen, referencing a problem with "igxprd32" and that the device driver got stuck in an infinite loop.  How can I fix this issue.  (Product ID 6465CT0)  Thank you!

  • Tape drive stuck

    I tried to access a tape drive from a Sparc 450 m/c.
initially giving tar tvf /dev/rmt/0 gave me the contents but i was not able to write to the tape using tar.
Then the tape stopped working all together and mt -status gives the erro "no offline meedia available on dev/rmt/0n"
The tape is not write protected and it is now stuck in the drive.
Can anyone plz suggest a remedy.

    Hi
What sort of tape drive is it? eg 4mm, 8mm, DLT?
You could try powercycling the tape unit and ejecting it using the eject button on the tape unit
    itself.
You may have to remove the cover and see if the tape has got tangled up with the drive head. If it's really bad, you may have to sacrifice the tape and cut it out.

  • Hard Drive stuck in RAID limbo

I formatted a 186.3 GB and 279.5 GB drive into an MS-DOS Concatenated RAID. I did this because I had read that you can add on new drives without reformatting the whole RAID set.

Even Disk Utility's Help files says that it's possible.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1948.html
Well, I added another 186.3 GB drive, but the new space doesn't appear. I read that on +HFS setups adding drives may not work but I'm using a FAT32 setup. I don't understand where I went wrong.
Right now the drive is just sitting here. The RAID won't mount without it but it's space isn't being recognized so it's just stuck in limbo. Can anybody tell me how I can allow the space to be accessed or how to separate the drive? Anything is better than it just doing nothing.
The drives are located externally through a firewire Coolgear CGS-213FB brideboard with an Inito 2430L chip. The board allows for 4 drives.

Have you seen this hard drive replacement manual? It does mention something about using a flat head screwdriver to pry apart hinges when you meet resistance.

  • Hard Drive stuck in bay

I had occasion to image a drive for another machine. To cut a long story short I took the drive and slid it in the spare lower bay of the G5. Everything went smoothly until I tried to remove the drive, it is stuck fast. I can't get my fingers in to get a decent grip on it, nor can I remove the top drive as that one drops down to allow removal and the lower drive is in the way. I am at a loss as to how to get it out. Any ideas that dont involve taking apart the whole computer will be gratefully received, (although if I have to, hints on that would be great too)
    Thanks

  • Thinkpad Drive Caddies and Ultrabay Adapters

There are differences in the Ultrabay adapters (they are NOT caddies!) for the T400/T500 series notebooks. First, they use the Ultrabay III adapter, which can be iodentified by the ejection tip on the rear. Here it is compared to the old UB II used in the T40/T60 series:
Within the UB III family, there are currently two adapter sizes in terms of thickness.  First, the original UB III had a 9.5mm thick faceplate.  This left a small gap in the laptop when fully seated:
The newest UB III adapter has a 12.7mm faceplate and seats with no gap:
A major difference, however, is that a drive in the 12.7mm model is fastened by 4 screws in the back, and cannot be mounted in the standard Lenovo drive caddy.  So, what is the Lenovo drive caddy?  It is the perforated metal cage equipped with soft rubber rails, standard in most Thinkpads.

Actually I just found it it is under security for some crazy reason. There is 18 hrs i'll never get back.

  • CD/DVD drive stuck?

So, I don't think I have a CD in the drive (mind you I have 5 kids) as nothing can be seen, nor is there an icon idicating something in the drive. However, when waking or booting the drive sounds like it is desperately trying eject something and I can see the little robotic arm going up and down multiple times. Do you think this is something I can open the top up and retieve myself (if there is a CD stuck), or do you know of this being a reported problem?
    Thanks for any help.
    IX

Better than doing that is to try to force the drive to eject with open firmware:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106752
If that does not work, and your machine is under warranty, I'd have Apple remove the disk from your machine. I'd keep the machine out of reach of children who you don't trust not to put non optical disk objects in the drive.

  • Internal Super Drive stuck when coming out

    Hello friends,
I have a superdrive and when i press eject button, it comes out 1/5 way out then it is stuck there. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Do I need to get a new drive?
If I do which model works for it?
    Thanks

comes out 1/5 way out then it is stuck there. Does
anyone have a solution for this problem?
Do I need to get a new drive?
If I do which model works for it?
Any Pioneer drive should work w/o a problem.
There are a number of reasons why the drive tray isn't opening fully.
Is the superdrive OEM, or aftermarket?
Have you disassembled the machine at some point, to incude removing the DVD drive?
i ask b/c if the mounting screws are loose or missing, its possible for the drive unit to shift, which may cause the tray to hang on the frame.
If the CPU has been in a dirty/dusty environment, it is possible there is an accumulation of crud inside the drive, stopping it from opening.
Is there a disc in the drive? It could be seated incorrectly, stopping the drive from opening fully.
If the drive has been havily used, it is possible that the worm gear that opens/closes the tray has come partially off it's shaft.
(I've seen both a TV top and a computer DVD drive do this.) It can be fixed, but you'll have to take the drive apart to get to the gear.)

  • Mountain Lion installation to new drive stuck

    Hi all,
My laptop drive was starting to suffer from regular I/O errors which would freeze the machine. I decided to get a new SSD, and used Recovery Assistant to make an existing external drive a Recovery Disk.
Everything seemed to go well, but now it's been stuck at "3 minutes remaining" for well over an hour. I'm starting to think that the only solution will be to force reset the computer, but of course I don't know what this will have done to my installation. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone have any better suggestions than to try again?
    Thanks!
    Ed

    Hi,
Okay, so I restarted the mac and after reboot it continued with the installation - so no idea why it froze but if anyone else in in the same situation, probably it is actually finished with that step.
One gotcha that caused me an additionall stress - I was worried that there was an issue with the external drive I was using for the recovery, and so I used my imac to make a USB key into a recovery disk. This didn't work (I got the 'stop' symbol). I then tried another external disk. Same problem. By now I was getting very concerned... and went back to the original drive... which worked perfectly. As far as I can tell, you can't assume you can use a recovery disk made with another computer (even if they're on the same version of ML) with your laptop. I guess this is related to the drivers installed, but it is very very annoying of Apple (especially since the failure is so opaque).
    Anyway, I'm done now.
    Cheers,
    Ed

  • Kernel panic, restored hard drive, stuck on loading screen....

yesterday i had a kenel panic occur when i booted up my Macbook Pro, i tried to boot to an SMC, tried to boot to a PRAM, finally booted to the install disk.  Went to disk utility, erased the hard drive and restored it to a Time Machine Back up done 2 days ago.  Turned on the computer, now it's stuck on the loading screen, but no kernel panic message.....booted again to the install disk, verified and repaired HD, and got the message the HD seems to be okay.  WEnt to reboot and stuck again on loading screen.  Help me get to my computer......please!!!
Let me know if you need further information, would love any help i can get.....thank you!!

a brody, thanks so much for the advice.  quick question on the particulars: this is what i am assuming you mean to do:
    1. go back to disk utility from the install disk and wipe the hard drive again.
    2. run the install disk again and just try to install the base operating system from that disk
    3. see if there are any problems from that point
    4. diagnose problems
is this correct, or should i be installing the base operating system from another point (i.e. my external hard drive time machine back up, somewhere else in the Disk Utility options, etc.)
    Thanks again for the help.
