DriveLock help unlock - known password, dead laptop

Hello,
My HP Compaq 8510w died and I cannot get access to its hard drive, which was locked using DriveLock in BIOS. I know the password that was used to lock the drive, but it looks like DriveLock somehow mangles the password making it impossible to unlock with other tools even if the password is known.
Issuing the ATA SECURITY UNLOCK command and supplying the original password in cleartext as well as with various paddings doesn't work. If anybody could give me any details as for how DriveLock mangles the password, or what would be my best solution would be to regaining access to my hard drive, I would seriously appreciate it. I can even supply the original cleartext password that was used to lock the drive.

Steps to be followed:
1. Use the unlock code posted above to enter the BIOS
2. Disable all passwords that are enabled
3. If asked for current password - type the unlock code
4. For new password, just press ENTER key
5. Repeat the same for verify password column.
6. Then leave the BIOS by saving & exit option to save the changes.
Troubleshooting:
Incase if the Password doesn’t work please try a Hard Reset as follows.
1. Shut down the notebook
2. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery
3. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds
4. Plug in the Power/AC Adapter (Leave the battery out for the moment) & Start the Notebook
5. If you now see a password box, Please type the same Password I shared before and press enter

What I am saying is ..........
The iPhone HAS to be active making calls on the UK carrier network for the carrier to identify as "theirs" and therefore eligible for the Carrier to unlock
The way to achieve this is to use a PAYG sim making and receiving calls to establish a customer relationship with the Carrier and then follow the Carrier's process to unlock
With a PAYG it usually means adding a specified (by the carrier ) amount usually £15 /£20 depending on the carrier
This is how O2 function and according to Gemma this is how Vodafone work

Don't know any other way to put it. I typed in the correct password. Now the account is locked. Iforgot does not send an email verification. The email is not in the junk mail or anywhere else. It is typed correctly. This is frustrating. I was just trying to update the Ipad Mini. I wanted to change the ownership to my husband and noticed that my daughter attached a new Icloud account. I was just trying to verify her account. I have the correct password. Now the account is locked out.

I figured it out. It's a little confusing. I was trying to add a new email address for iCloud and I was supposed to type in the main iCloud user ID and password. The wording is not helpful because it displays the name of the new email address.

It seems that you have used the AppleIDs to "Purchase" your devices, which marries the two for all time and eternity.

What do you mean get password so no one can make or take drives from laptop? This is confusing as to what your saying or asking?
Passwords if you don't write it down or remember how it was written will be good or bad for you if you forget it. So don't just think it will lock others out - you can also lock yourself out as well. Rather you should keep your laptop in a safe place where you have access to it and no one else and only put password on it when you travel or if another members wants to use it you password block the Admin/Main user but make them a Limited user account that way they have no access to your important files.

I did disable the security (AVG and Zone Alarm) when I tried on my own PC. My wife's laptop which eventually got it working also uses AVG and Zone Alarm but on an XP O/S whereas my PC is Vista - maybe this is why.

I am unable to remove a known password on a document (using version 11.0.3 currently, but also on older versions). I have no "Protection" option under Tools and I see no "Remove Security" check boxes (or any check boxes) in the Security tabs. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you!

That's the reason, but it isn't new. No version of Reader has ever been able to change security settings. I'm guessing you used to have a copy of Adobe Acrobat (which looks similar but can do more).

- Can you create a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and then click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up? If so do that than then restore the iPhone from that backup with all apps already in the iTunes library. The iOS on the iPhone has to be greater than or equal to that of the iPod.
- Otherwise you are out of luck.

Security review your database for default accounts with known passwords

I have just added a new free tool to my web site that will test your
database for known default users and more importantly for known default
passwords. The tool is a set of PL/SQL scripts that loads a list of 474
known default users to a table. A package procedure is then used to loop
through all of the databases users to test if they are default and have
known passwords.
The list of passwords and users is supplied in a spreadsheet that
includes details of what most of the users are used for as well as a
severity rating for them. This is probably the biggest list of default
users available on the net.

Thanks, now I understand why the wifi keeps dropping. On my personal wireless network, it also seems the distance from the access point is not good compared to my laptop. At work our network & exchange teams don't seem to have the desire to struggle with this "toy" until customers start forcing its adoption. I am using OWA and it works fine over EDGE. I will share your posting with them.

How to deauthorise DEAD LAPTOP? :(((

Hi everyone,
My laptop has given up completely last night and we tried to save it but didn't succeed so now it is dead.
It happened very unexpectedly, I haven't even had time to save my data (we removed the harddrive and just saving whats left over it) so therefore I haven't had a chance to deauthorise my laptop as my primary iTunes source for my iPhone.
How can I deauthorise it and add a new laptop?
I don't even want to think about what happened with my previous iPhone backups stored on the dead laptop's harddrive :((((

Hi Andrea,
iTunes will let you authorize up to 5 computers to playback your music and videos that you have purchased from the iTunes store, so if you have not yet authorized that many, you should be OK once you get things up and running again.

How can I deinstall CS6 from a dead laptop

My laptop recently died due to a cafe accident - I've installed CS6 on my new laptop but now need to install the second copy (allowed two) on to my office computer - is there some way of deinstalling from the dead laptop? I guess this is fairly common but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
Or is there some way of de-regstering the copy of CS6 on the dead laptop. I can't find any other way to contact adobe support about this so if anyone has any hints that would be much appreciated.

You need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues. They have the ability to deactivate the lost installation.

We maintained Data Source as SU01 in SPRO, So that User can able to access GRC Application through End User Login with ECC System login
Details for raise a request.
If user is locked or forget ECC system password, then user not able to access GRC Application through End User Login with ECC System login Details for Unlock or reset Password.
In this situation, how user can unlock or reset the Password for ECC System.
Could you please provide the solution to resolve the Issue.
Note:- No LDAP or Acitive Directory.
System Details :- GRC AC 10.0 , SP12.

Quite a few PSS solutions have this as a setup (even SCN). The key thing you are reliant on is that the email account must be restricted to only the user to receive the password/link as well as appropriate Challenge Response Questions defined as part of their registration.
But yes, they can technically enter any User id to request the password and if they know the answers to the questions then they will get the password issue.
Your alternatively is to introduce another system (i.e. AD which you ruled out) or see if there is a way to introduce a second factor authentication (I don't believe this is delivered with GRC).

We recently gave permissions to group of level 1 staff to unlock OR reset password of users. In case user calls and report his account is locked OR if his password expires.
I want to track by auditing just in case something goes wrong, I can check in auditing. I have created a new GPO and select success/failure for Computer Config > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Audit Policy "Audi
Account Management"
applied it on domain top level and I did not changed settings of 'default Domain Policy' which is also linked on top level of domain.
But after applying this I am unable to see any event 4724 of password re-set when I attempted to test this GPO. What else is required to be done in order to trace users in group 'level1' if they change any body password.

Total two DC's in our environment. But now I figured out and it is working now. It was supposed to set in Advanced audit policy > User account management, I enabled it for success and failure and my newly created GPO is applied on domian top in addition
to default domain policy.
I am able to see unlock events, password change events in my security log. So, it is working.
