Driver detected controller error on device\harddisk\dr1

Hello,
I have a satellite c655d-s5200, running win7 64. I run the event viewer and i see the above message repeatdly in my event log. I have a 320g (mk3265gsxn, sata drive. I recently purchased the machine so it is under warranty (2/11/12). I have a 4gb thumb drive i use with rteady boost. I saw a message a two concerning this issue on a different model. I just disabled readyboost. I want to see what that does. Any other suggestions.

Don't try to copy anything from Event Viewer manually. Double-click the event and then click the Copy button. That will put the details on your clipboard.
Paste it without editing into your reply - except we want only what's above the line Event Xml:.

  • Satellite P300-156 - driver detected controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort1

    Hi
I have recently installed a secondary hard drive in my P300-156 and am having some problems with it. I keep getting Event ID 11 in the system event log "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort1." and suffer with very bad performance with this drive.
The drive is new and works fine in other systems and even works ok if I swap drive bays on my P300-156 but the problem with that is the drive does not fit in the other bay as it is quite thick. The drive in question is a Samsung HM100UI 2.5" 1TB Sata. I have also tried other drives in this bay and they work ok too.
I am using windows 7 ultimate and Intel chipset drivers. It's an Intel ICH8M SATA AHCI controller, driver version 7.0.0.1013. Have tried different drivers and AHCI/IDE mode. Also tried a fresh installation and the problem persists.
Am at a loss why this drive is having problems is there anything else someone can suggest to try?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks!! This worked! It seems the Intel INF auto update utility didn't update them to the latest. I had to download the [RST and AHCI Driver and GUI|http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20110&lang=eng] and manually search for new drivers in device manager. Now the drive is noticeably quicker and error free :)
Thanks for all the help guys :)

  • The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1-4\DR1-4.

    Hello all
I just recently bought a new gaming PC on black friday and is running just fine.  Then one day i decided to take a look in the event log and i notice an error that would appear four time during startup of the machine.
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2.
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR3.
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk4\DR4.
I only have one internal hard drive located on disk 0 and an external located on disk 5. So i have no idea why i'm getting this error when nothing is connected.
I installed the latest controller drivers and just for fun everything else related to my GIGABYTE motherboard but unfortunately still occurs after turning my computer. (note for the bios i have version F4 not sure if updating it to F5 is worth doing for
    this issue).
If anyone could help me with this error or if i can just ignore it.
    Thank you

    Angel
If the drive is an SSD update the firmware.
Are the message an error (red symbol) or a warning (yellow symbol)?
I would also run CHKDSK and get the diagnostic utility (and run it of course) from the HD mfr.
    CHKDSK /R /F
Chkdsk disclaimer: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found  any data available on that sector might be lost so as usual backup your data.
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.
Do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.
Then reboot and let the test run.
It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/guide-to-using-check-disk-in-windows-vista/
See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.
    CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

  • The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D

Hope someone can help, yesterday in the event viewer I encountered the following error
"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D
....I have added no new hardware for months, I checked this out on the microsoft website but they recommend changing the cable!
I ran diagnostics on the hard drives and they found no errors at all ....I got a feeling it the motherboard, frustrating as this is the second board Ive had!
Can anyone advise  on this error?
    My setup is as follows
    P4 3.2GHZ
    1GB Transcend Memory
    1 NEC 2510 DVD Wrtier
1 IDE 120GB Maxtor Diamond Max
    2 X SATA HDD
    450 watt Thermaltake Butterfly PSU

This seems to be a common problem between ICH5 chipsets and SATA NCQ drives. Apparantly a BIOS update will be able to fixed the problem but I'm not sure which BIOS you should use. I suggest that you check MSI's website to look into your mobo's BIOS release notes to find out more first.
Please also note that there's an amount of risk to flashing your mobo's BIOS as and improper flash will caused the mobo to die immediately or having multiple errors due to bad flash. I would recommend that you flash through a floppy bootdisk which seems to be the best method till date.

    Hi,
For finding the exact hard disk you could refer to this article. It is an old article but the structure is not changed:
How to Distinguish a Physical Disk Device from an Event Message
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/159865
Meanwhile for the error message "error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\DR3 during a paging operation", according to my search result it could be related to fragments. So please try a defragment on your hard disk (if it is the USB disk then perform
a defragment on USB disk) and see the result.

It sounds like you downloaded the wrong application, namely Adobe Premiere Elements.

  • The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2.

    Hello All,
I've been seeing the above quoted error in my System Event logs on my HP G71 laptop.  Can someone tell me how to determine if that's the internal harddrive on my laptop or one of the two external Seagate drives I have connected?
It appears several times a day, every day.
    Thanks!
    dawn

First run the diagnostic test on the internal Hard Drive
Shut down the computer if it is running.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Press f10 when the HP/Compaq logo displays.
After the BIOS Setup Utility displays, use the Right Arrow key to select the Diagnostics menu.
    Select HDD Self-Test options.
Press enter to display a list of HDD/Self-Test options.
Select Notebook Hard Drive and then press f10 to display an Estimated test time.
Press f10 to continue. The Hard Drive Self Test executes a Quick test, a Comprehensive test, and a SMART test.

  • F2 button not booting PC into recovery mode and Multimedia Controller error in device manager.

    Hello everyone,
I updated my lenovo ideacentre b540p from windows 7 home premium to windows 8.1 pro. I have two issues that came up after the upgrade.
    1. I can no longer access the Lenovo rescue system 3.0 by pressing the F2 button during startup to boot into recovery mode which was possible when I was using windows 7 and because of this I am unable to install the software and drivers that came with the PC.
    2. In device manager the multimedia controller driver is not installed. It shows a yellow sign in the other devices group. I have tried different version from the lenovo support site but none of them work. The PC was shipped without a CD containing the drivers but if I can access the rescue system, I believe I will find the driver I need for the multimedia controller.

    Hi RR7,
You might have a look at this page: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaCentre-Desktops-Home-Servers/Windows-8-Recovery-partition-not-recogn...
It's Windows 8 related, but you'll better understand what may happen when your cloned HD has not the same size as the original one.
interesting post, thanks. sadly i'm not sure this really helps. i didnt find what i expected.
the reagent.xml only has two references to offset, and they both refer to the partition that contains windows 7. i have changed this offset on the cloned disk to match the actual partition offset but it makes no difference.
i don't see any reference to the hidden lenovo partition or its offset in the windows recovery.
i also cant see any reference to it in the BCD on either the source or clonded disk.
all i see if pressing F2 on the source OEM when powering on loads a special lenovo recovery environment, and doing the same thing on the clonded disk just shows the windows 7 boot loader option for choosing to boot windows or do a memory test.
my question still remains, what is the magic thats happening when i press F2?

    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver

If this fixes up your problem, it was probably a Windows Update that caused the problem. I recommend setting Windows Update to only allow manual updates, and when you check for updates, never let it change any of your hardware drivers, Toshiba laptops are very finicky about using only their drivers.
Click 'Start - All Programs -Windows Update', then click on 'Change settings' on the menu at left, under 'Important updates' click on the drop down menu at right, select 'Never check for updates (not recommended)', and then click 'OK'.
Please let us know if it works. Good luck.

  • Controller error...

    Hi there
    I hope you can help.
I have a PC here which is reporting numerous controller errors, some of which culminate in the dreaded BSOD.  I have included the information from one of the Event Viewer files below.  If anyone can offer any advice please that would be much appreciated.
FYI I have run the Lenovo hard drive quick test and Windows memory diagnostic tools, both of which it passed.
    Many thanks.

  • Satellite L505D Controller Error on IdePort1

I have a Satellite L505D-S5983 that keeps locking up momentarily.
When this happens I get the following in the Systems EventLog (windows 7)
    Source:        atapi
    Event ID:      11
Description: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort1.
Anyone know what device is at \Device\Ide\IdePort1 for this model?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Mass Storage Controller Error

    Hi all
I get a "Mass Storage Controller" error in device manager after a new install. I have nothing unusual in my opinion, my config is listed below. FYI - I havnt yet installed the drivers for "nVidia Firewall" and "Forceware Network Access Manager" - not sure if this could be related.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
(some of you may recognise my request from a previous thread, which started to get off-topic so I started this new one)
    My config is:
Windows XP Pro (standard install without RAID drives for nVidia or SiS)
    MSI K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum
OCZ 520W Modstream in Thermaltake Tsunami Case
    Athlon 64 3000+
    Zalman 7000B Alcu cooler
    1 GB Crucial Ballistix PC3200
    Gigabyte 6600GT
    WD Caviar SE 80GB SATA
    Generic DVD-ROM
    Onboard audio
    USB Mouse
    USB Keyboard with Fingerprint Reader
    USB Gaming Device ("The Claw")

Problem solved - I disabled the SiS RAID controller
Interesting that it was giving a device error while set to Enabled/SATA

  • Error Message:    Insert disk into drive   \Device\Harddisk1\DR1

With Premier 11, when I use the Instant Movie "Outdoor Adventure", after it is created I receive the following error message, locking up the program:
(NO problem with some other Instant Movies)
                Insert disk into drive   \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.
What does the error message mean and how do I fix it?
      Thanks.

Did you install the "patch" for SmartSound?
Perhaps this ANNOUNCEMENT will be helpful, if you have not done the installation, or the patch:
ANNOUNCEMENT: SmartSound Sonicfire Pro Issues In PrE 11
    Hide Details
If one is having issues with SmartSound's Sonicfire Pro music creation plug-in, a likely cause is the lack of a recent patch from SmartSound. One should follow the instructions at http://www.smartsound.com/support/link.php?id=308 to update your smartsound version to v5.7.5.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
