Driver for 3com 3c905B Fast Ethernet

Hello,
I was trying to see where I could get
a driver for Solaris 8 Sparc - 3Com 3c905B
for SunBlade
or what ethernet 100 mb network card is suppported in Solaris?
Thanks

I think it is going to be difficult at best.
Glance through the Third-Party drivers link that is on the Solaris HCL page:
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/indexRes.html
Keep in mind that most of those links are to driver software
that is to be installed to Solaris-x86.
An example of what you may eventually get to ...
If you do successfully get such a card to work in a SPARC-based system,
it may only function AFTER the OS is fully booted, so it may not be usable as a primary interface.
The 3COM cards work very well in x86 architecture,
but it's a questionable exercise for SPARC systems.

I am completely new to solaris, I am trying to install solaris 8 for x86 in a computer with a 3com 3c90x fast ethernet 10/100 card and looks like the o.s. does not recognize it at first. Reading the 02/02 hardware compatibility list I found out that this device needs to be configured after the instalation (with the device configuration floppy). The point is... I have no clue on how to do this. Can someone help me with that or point me in the right direction? The machine is ment to be a back-up file server.
Since now, thanks for the attention.

Maybe the 3Com card works by adding it's PCI-ID to /etc/driver_aliases:
    http://sun.drydog.com/faq/s86faq.html#6.7
Maybe you also need the (unoffical) elxl driver update for some of the
    newer 3Com 3c905 variants:

  • Driver for 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless Card?

    Hi there.
Anyone know of way of getting this card to work with a Ti Pbook running 10.4.6? I have a 3com OfficeConnect Wireless Card 54Mbps PC Card (3CRGPC10075) - it came free with my 3com Wireless router, but so far I can't find a driver that will get it working.
I have tried these drivers without success:
    http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/wirelessformac.html
    http://www.ioxperts.com/products/80211b_X.html
Any tips anyone? Should I give up and go buy one that will definitely work on Mac or persevere?
    Thanks.
    Ti Pbook 867   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi, Pieshop. The 3Com cards that are known to work with Macs — see here — use the drivers you've already tried, so it seems like a fair bet that your card isn't going to work out. Too bad, but unless your router was grossly overpriced to cover the extra cost of the card, it probably isn't worth wasting much time trying to get it to work.

LV can interface to 232, 485, Devicenet... depending on what the controller has.
You could find a LV/CVI driver for this (232/GPIB/ethernet only) instrument at http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/default.htm . If it's not listed there, it leaves you with one of a couple options. First, I would like you to submit a request for this driver at: http://zone.ni.com/idnet97.nsf/instrumentdriverrequest/
We develop drivers based on demand and popularity so the more requests we have for it, the greater the possibility that we will develop one.
If you would like to try developing your own instrument driver (or modify the existing one), we have documentation, model instrument drivers, and driver templates to help at :
    http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/development.htm
We also have a syndicate of third party vendors that specialize in National Instruments' products and services. Some of the vendors specialize in driver development. I would suggest contacting one of the Alliance members at:
    http://www.ni.com/alliance
An instrument driver is a collection of functions that implement the commands necessary to perform the instruments operations. In short, someone read the instrument user manual and implemented some of the functionality in a program for the end user. Instrument drivers are not necessary to use your instrument. They are merely time savers to help you develop your project so you do not need to study the manual before writing a program. With all of this work already done for you in the driver, instrument drivers can significantly reduce development time.
There are example VI's in LV on Instrument Connectivity. If you go to the Help menu >> Examples.. >> I/O, you will see a couple and Examples.. >> Fundamentals for File and String manipulation. I would suggest tweaking them to suit your application. Also the specific command that your instrument responds to can be found from it's manual.
Some useful resources for your application are
ni.com > NI Developer Zone > Development Library > Instrument Connectivity
http://search.ni.com/?col=alldocs&layout=TechResources&ql=a , to search examples and knowledge bases
    Hope this helps.

  • I need a PCI ethernet card driver for my Performa 6360...

Roughly a week ago, I decided to add yet another one of my classic Macs to my LAN, a classic gaming LAN of sorts, with that mac being a Performa 6360. With it's single empty (at the time) PCI slot, the solution for an ethernet card for the system was basically screaming at me. Unfortunately, I went to my local electronics store with the assumption that PCI ethernet cards are fairly generic devices that should work in nearly everything without a problem. That turned out not to be the case. Once I finally aquired the time to install it, the card itself appeared to work, with the outer LEDs indicating network activity and a 100mbps network speed, however, when I went into the Appletalk or TCP/IP control panels, I came to the terrible realization that I needed a driver. The included CD was, much to my dismay, Windows only, Google searches haven't been much help, and worst of all, I seem to have misplaced my reciept. The "card" I keep mentioning is a Linksys LNE100TX version 5.1. Here is what is shown in the apple system profiler:
    ==============================
    PCI Slot
    Card type: ethernet
    Card name: pci1317,574
    Card model: -1
    Card Rom #: Not available
    Card Revision: 17
    Card Vendor ID: 1317
    ==============================
What I am wondering is where I could find a driver for this card, and if that answer is "nowhere", is there any way I could get this card functioning under Mac OS 8.1? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well the good news is there was one,

finding one, is a good question. Oddly enough the link you posted to the 10T version is the same company as above.
Yes, I have tried searching a number of places for it, and haven't come up with much. Here is what a google shopping search pulled up (eBay came up empty), the first being "unavailable" for purchase once you add it to your shopping cart and the second costing only $150! I could easily buy a new (used) mac with the card installed in it for that much!
As for the PCI slot cards you are trying, keep in mind that you are trying to use current cards which didn't exist back in the day your Mac and OS were made...... I have Asante 10/100 PCI cards in some of that generation mac and they work fine but then they were supported by the OS.
Good point. Even back when I purchased it, the card seemed a bit of a long-shot to me, too. However, being on sale for $15, I thought, "why not at least try?". Unfortunately, I came up with the results above. However, you have given me a good idea. I realize from reading a few posts around here on the issue that it is a good idea to keep the pci slot of the computer open on this computer until there is a need to upgrade, let's say, for a graphics card. However, what if I have no future plans to add anything (as is currently)? Is it really that necessary that I keep the slot open? I'm sure it would be exponentially easier to find a card for that.
A long shot might be to try loading OS 9.0.4 and see if you get lucky as 8 is pretty old plus there's a part of me that wonders with such a slow bus and cpu that 100T is going to make a big difference.
    Kevin
Thank you for the suggestion, but that's how I collected the information for the card in the first place. The Performa 6360 didn't seem to take the card, so I popped it in to my Beige G3 running Mac OS 9.2.2 and hoped it might work on that. Same problem, however, the Apple System Profiler is much more thorough on that OS, so I was able to acquire the card's information. The reason for the 100-BaseT Ethernet, again, is not solely based on that one computer; It's the fact that I would prefer the network to run at the faster speed and with four macs currently on it, with a few more modern ones such as the iBook G3 shown below, the speed is a nice thing to have.
So, on that note, any suggestions for a PCI equivalent? Has Apple ever made any? If so, where could I find them at a reasonable (Read: Not $150) price?
    Thanks again.

UEFI (unified extensible firmware interface) boot requires Global unique identifier Partition Table (GPT) as opposed to the older Master Boot Record (MBR). If your existing drive is formatted in MBR, you will need to adjust BIOS settings to enable legacy boot in order for it to work properly.
Is there a performance difference between GPT and MBR? If GPT is better, I do not mind formatting the drive with it.
    5. No special drivers are needed.

I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.

  • Ethernet driver for HP p7-1414

    Hi:
Rather than hunting down all of the drivers individually, the easiest thing would have been to find a model with the same motherboard as yours which has Windows 7 drivers.
All of the W7 drivers from this slightly older model will work on yours.

The Integrated 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet LAN is not the wireless network adapter.
That is the wireless network adapter and has nothing to do with the wireless.
If you need a driver for the wireless network adapter, then please do this...
Go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller needing drivers.
Then click on the Details tab at the top of the network controller window.
Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.
Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's).
Post the top string of characters that begin with PCI\VEN.

That's an "Intel PRO/100 VE" NIC. It should work without problems using the standard Solaris "iprb" driver.
You have to add a new driver binding to /etc/driver_aliases, so that the Solaris kernel will try use the "iprb"
driver with that Intel PCI/100 VE PCI NIC hardware. Add the following line to /etc/driver_aliases:
    iprb "pci8086,103d"
Then reboot with the "-r" option (or reboot and run "devfsadm -v"). Now it should be possible to plumb and
    configure the iprb0 interface:
    ifconfig iprb0 plumb
    ifconfig iprb0 inet 1.2.3.4 up
    etc...
