  • Yoga 3 Pro driver for ACPI\VPC2004 in Device Manager

    Hi all, first post here...
I am re-installing Windows 8.1 and the required drivers for my Yoga 3 Pro (to get rid of Superfish, started the task before the Lenovo tool came out...)
I am almost there, except for one unknown device in the Device Manager, which has a code in its detail of ACPI\VPC2004.
A quick google gives me a link to - Lenovo http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht071645 - and a page which says 'Download and run the Energy Management from Lenovo support website with the proper Operating System version. This will install the chipset INF files so that Windows properly recognizes the virtual power controller ACPI/VPC2004.'
All apparently clear. However I am rather unclear on which file on the relevant yoga page ( http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-pro-1370-laptop-len... ) I should be using? - I have already installed all of the drivers on that page (other than the intel wireless LAN and bluetooth as the yoga has Broadcomm).
Any thoughts or direction would be massively appreciated!
    Thanks!

It looks like the power management comes from One Key Optimizer. Can you install it and let me know if the driver installs as well? If not, I can extract it from my install.

  • Unable to find driver for platform: ACPI

I'm getting this error message: 'panic(cpu 0 caller OX0039C213): Unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI", overlaid on the kernel panic screen at startup.
I can't reboot into safe mode. In single user mode and verbose mode, the same error message appears and I can't type anything after it does.
This happened after I HAD a kernel panel, booted into safe mode, uninstalled recently installed applications (norton antivirus and stuffit) and deleted items from library/startupitems.
i then restarted to see if it would work normally, but now i can't even boot into safe mode.
i'm posting all of this from the windows partition of my macbook, which works fine.
HELP! my macbook is (sigh) not even 2 months old.

Hopefully someone else can be more helpful than I. "ACPI" is Windows technology. So the problem is in your installation of Windows (maybe the Mac foundation for it, I don't know).

This is almost certainly a software problem, and in the worst case, you can fix it by starting over with a clean install of OS X.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective.

  • Time Machine restore fail: "Unable to find Driver for platform ACPI"

After restoring a recent Time Machine backup of a 2010 MacBook Pro Snow Leopard system, I'm getting boot errors like
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x5591cb: "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.7.4/iokit/Kernal/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1389
    Dbugger called <panic>
Backtrace (CPU 0), Freame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack)
I'm re-installing using the Utilities menu on they grey (Snow Leopard) system DVD that came with the MacBook Pro I'm trying to restore. I'm definitely not using a Leopard DVD, which is something I know can cause problems.
I've managed to restore from a non-Time Machine clone of my drive, but I now no longer trust my Time Machine backups. They are fine for restoring the odd user file, but seem to be broken or missing something crucial that means that my Time Machine backup is useless for restoring an entire system, which is something it should be capable of.
Am I missing something obvious? Any suggestions?

Hi Linc, thanks for your reply!
In case I wasn't clear, I'm not reinstalling after restoring, or reinstalling the OS.
Restoring my system from TM leaves me with an unusable system that kernel panics immediately on boot. My workaround is just to ignore TM and restore from a different kind of backup (a clone made with SuperDuper, as it happens).
I think it would be a bit generous to Time Machine to call this a "workaround"! Time Machine doesn't work for me.
Has anyone ever solved the problem of full restores of their TM backup leaving them with a system that has this problem?

  • ACPI driver for HP 2000-355DX

Hi, I was just given an HP 2000-355Dx from a friend and I like but but I can not seem to find and ACPI driver for it. That causes the windows 8 fastboot feature not to work correctly so when I shut the PC down it just hangs on a black screen until I press and hold the power button.
Can someone tell me where to find this driver? I have checked the product support page with the drivers on it but there is no ACPI driver listed there

    Hi @mpalomba3 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP 2000-355DX Notebook and issues with the ACPI driver.
The driver you are referring to is the Plug and Play driver for Windows. Have you tried to update the driver by right clicking on it and selecting update driver in the Device Manager.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase.
The only other thing you can do is return the Windows back to Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). This is what was installed originally on this Notebook. Here is a document on how to do that if you wanted to.
    Hope this helps you out.
    Thanks.

  • After trying to install update on MacAir error message and then message saying panic (cpu caller 0xffffff800a859241): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".... I'm worried as all of my work is on my computer and I'm afraid I will lose it all.

I am totally worried I am going ot lose all my data after trying to install update on MacAir.  Cannot do anything error message saying panic ....."Unablet o find driver for this platform."

    Hi Guys
No good news I'm afraid. I have been through ALL the system caches and files that were updated at the time of said issue. Reset - rebuild and even gone back to my TimeMachine copy from earlier this AM. Nothing! Can only assume it is something deeper in the /usr or var or private folders.....
I have cloned the system and core files (/usr, /private) etc etc to an external HD and it still recreates the fault. I am afraid to say I have no more time at the minute to look at so have put my machine back to 2 hours prior via my TimeCapsule.
I the absense of anyone else or, indeed, Apple fixing in the next 12 hours, will get back onto it from the cloned copy I have kept and see if I can find the offending file/files...
Sorry I don't have an immedaite solution.

  • HELP! "unable to find driver for this platform: 'ACPI'."

I was updating my Macbook Pro's software today the standard way and when/after it was installing the latest Mac OS X, my laptop shut off and now it won't boot up. A screen comes on that says "you need to restart your computer..." (which i did, but this message keeps popping up). on the same screen, it says stuff like panic: unable to find driver for this platform, debugger called, and displays all these numbers and letters. i don't know what is wrong or how to fix it. did my computer crash when installing the updated software/platform? PLEASE HELP!

    mrb1568:
If I may put in just one work of caution. Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature explains the procedure for the installation option. However, although you can choose to save your settings and preferences, and although all third party apps in the Applications folder are saved, as well as your Users Folder, the article starts out by suggesting that you backup. That is because if anything goes wrong, as you already know it can, you can likely lose all your data, or if it can be rescued, not without cost and a lot of time.
If you don't have a reliable, up-to-date backup I suggest that you use SuperDuper to clone the entire HDD to an external HDD. You can do that by using Firewire Target Disk Mode and connecting an external HDD to the host computer.
    Good luck.
