missing *.inf driver for 2605dtn and windows 7 64 bit
I just piurchased a new HP laptop with windows 7 64 bit installed.  I do not have any windows 7 disks.
Where do I obtain the necessary drivers for this printer?

    HI RandyJohnson,
You do not need to download drivers for this product. Print drivers for your product are available within the Windows 7 operating system. Use Devices and Printers, formerly known as the Add Printer Wizard, to obtain the Windows 7 update. For more information,  go to Install the Printer Driver through the Windows 7 Operating System (c02536257) (in English).

  • Where is the basic driver for C4580 under Windows 7 64-bit?

I've upgraded my PC and I'm installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit. My printer is the HP Photosmart C4580. In the support section of the HP support site, only the full software is available for download -  PS_AIO_04_C4500_USW_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe. There is a tempting message saying the basic driver is "available as a separate download named HP Photosmart Basic Driver", but I can't find it. I've even had a trawl through the HP FTP site! I really only want the basic driver. I certainly don't want all the other stuff that the full version brings - particularly the Yahoo toolbar for IE! Does anyone know where the basic driver can be found?? Thanks in advance.

That is not true at all. When you try to use that install package there is no option to just install the drivers without the other garbage. I just want the driver for the Photosmart d7260 but NO, that's too hard for HP to understand that people exist that don't need to be babied through installing drivers. I don't need you to hold my hand just give me the file I need to try and make my printer work again.

  • HP LaserJet 1010 not recognized by Windows 7 (64-bit)

My HP LaserJet 1010 (USB-printer) is not automatically recognized by Windows 7 (64-bit). I am unable to install the printer manually. I did locate a Vista 64-bit driver for this printer on the HP-website, but I don't understand how I could use the inf-file. I can't find a way to tell Win7 where to look...

Working solution on win 7 32 & 64 with driver lj1010serieshb-vista, did as follow:
connected printer, windows tried to auto install and failed, device was listed as unspecified.
googled for lj1010serieshb-vista(32/64).zip driver, downloaded from hp website, unzipped and extracted files.
Start > Run > PrintManagement.msc , then Print Servers > Localhost , right click on drivers > add driver > next > choose x86/x64 > next > have disk > browse to location of extracted
files, select hpc1015e.inf > ok > select hp laserjet 1010 hb > next > finish
Repeat above process and this time select select hp laserjet 1015 hb > next > finish , this step is needed as stated on previous post some files are missing on the 1010 driver and adding 1015 fixes the problem.
Now back to Devices and printers , right click on the unspecified device > troubleshoot > then will ask to search for driver, select "apply this fix" , it will find and install the correct driver from previous step > then will ask to set printer
as default, select "apply this fix" > then will ask if you want to share printer, select "skip this fix" if you don't want to share > close troubleshooter.
Now i have perfectly working printer, 'preferences'  is working and not crashing win explorer and printer doesn't hung.
I guess you could first add the two drivers to your system before
connecting your printer and it would install perfectly but who would though this old printer would not work trough windows update.
thanks to the people who went by trial and error to find a working solution.

  • Driver for HP Laserjet 1012 to work under Windows 7- 64 bit

Am trying to install a HP Laserjet 1012 to work under Windows 7- 64 bit and at HP Support, could find drivers for Vista -64-bit only.
I have tried to install this Vista - 64 bit driver and it does not seem to even print a test page.
Is there some other tweak that I need to make or
        or
does it mean there will be no driver specifically usable for Win - 7 and I might as well junk the printer?

  • Migrating music to an external hard drive for access by Windows

    Hi,
I have a large (~212GB) iTunes music library that was created using iTunes on Windows. All music files, etc are held on an external drive. Now I want to be able to access my existing music library from my MacBook Pro running iTunes on OS X. When I launch iTunes I hit the key so I can select which library file it should use. I'm not currently able to select my iTunes library on the external hard disk.
I've tried following the steps covered in an existing discussion thread that I have found, Migrating music to an external hard drive for access by Windows & Mac, but that hasn't worked for me unfortunately. The linked post suggests renaming the library file (.itl) to remove its extension but the library is read-only. I've also tried doing the same when the external hard disk is connnected to my windows laptop and then switching back over to my MacBook Pro. But this has also not worked yet.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Search Bar is not working for me in windows 7 32 bit OS

Search Bar is not working for me in windows 7 32 bit OS'''bold text'''

    Hi Sameer,
There's no version of Windows Vista that is supported, regardless of service packs.  You can always upgrade to Windows 7, though.
Your other option is to use Brackets, the open source editor that Edge Code is based on.  It still supports Vista for now.  The downside is that Brackets lacks some features of Edge Code: Kuler integration, Edge Inspect integration, and Edge Web Fonts code hints -- although all of those except Kuler are offered as optional Brackets extensions too (you just have to install them).
    Hope that helps,

    Hi @dazed1 ,
I see by your post that you need the drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I would like to help.
I checked the website and there is a Full Feature and Basic driver available for Windows 7 64 bit.  HP LaserJet 1022n Printer Drivers. Did you try both of these drivers?
I would try and install the preinstalled Windows drivers, if you are having issues using the downloaded drivers on the site with your Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Run the Add a printer wizard from Devices and Printers.
You could also plug and play the drivers. Connect the printer to the computer and see if Windows will detect the printer and install the drivers automatically.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.

  • Migrating music to an external hard drive for access by Windows & Mac

    Hey folks
I recently migrated my collection of music to an external hard drive by:
    1) changing the iTunes music folder location from the default (Music/iTunes/iTunes Music) to my external hard drive through iTunes Preferences.
    2) Selecting "Consolidate library" from the Advanced drop-down menu.
Afterwards, I moved my library file to the same parent directory I put my iTunes music folder in on the external (in fact, I moved my entire iTunes folder excl the music folder which was obviously already on the hard drive). When I restarted iTunes I held down OPTION and then chose the library file on my external as the iTunes library file to be used. This was all done on a Mac.
No problems - all swell. But... I moved the library file to the external because I want to be able to use the external with multiple computers from which I can import music that will automatically be copied to the same folder (the music folder on my external) and managed accordingly. When I tried to open the library from my Windows laptop at home nothing happened. The library file I copied from my Mac had no extension, so I renamed it .itl so the Windows version of iTunes would pick it up, but selecting it as the new library did nothing.
Q1: Are iTunes library files (I assume always .itl's?) interchangeable between Mac and Windows? If not this might explain why the library didn't load up.
Q2: Is my method wrong? Is there a different procedure for getting multiple copies of iTunes on different computers and operating systems to all use the same library, saved on an external hard drive, which itself references music from the same external hard drive? Is this goal even possible?
Q3: Is it possible to have 2 or more libraries for a given installation of iTunes?
Bonus Q4: How is the album artwork saved? When I consolidated my music on the external, did this move the artwork across with it (integrated with each music file?) or was it still sitting on my Mac hard drive in the Album Artwork directory? I have since moved this folder to my external as well, when I moved the entire directory including library file across, and album artwork is visible when the library is open on my Mac, but I don't know whether its getting the images from the hard drive or the external hard drive.
Okay last one - I swear! Q5: When I couldn't get the laptop version of Itunes to open my Mac library file, I imported all my music into the default laptop library which references the music files still all located on the external. Considering the 130GB of music I'm dealing with, this took a while, but what took even longer was "Processing album artwork", which dragged on for ages. What is actually happening during this procedure - is iTunes accessing an online database to find the artwork, or is it working with the artwork already processed and saved in the album on the external?
Thanks very much in advance! Sorry for all the questions but I'd like to crack this thing once and for all.

The procedure for sharing a library between a Mac and Wintel PC on an external drive is quite simple. I did this myself so that I would have my music available to me when I worked in my lab.
First before you transfer anything to your external hard drive, the music library on your Mac should already be consolidated. Once that is done, transfer the iTunes folder (./Music/iTunes) to the external drive. Unless your music files are in a folder outside the iTunes folder—for instance, my music files are on a separate, larger volume on my Mac from the iTunes folder that is on the boot volume—copying your iTunes folder will put everything that iTunes needs onto the external drive.
Now you have two options for using your library on two machines. The first, which I prefer, is to leave your Mac’s iTunes library in place and use the external strictly for the Wintel PC. In this instance, you would need to add the .itl extension to the iTunes Library database file. When you attach your external to the Wintel PC at work and choose the library, your should be taken into iTunes with your music library intact.
In this instance, your external drive can also serve as a backup of your iTunes library because it is highly improbable that both your external drive and Mac Pro’s iTunes folders will go bad simultaneously. For backup purposes, you will need to place another copy of your iTunes Library database file on the external drive, without the extension, for your Mac; I have had issues with Macs recognizing .itl files. Of note, the content of your library on the external drive will be the same if you need to recover from the external drive, but as the Wintel PC will not update the database file without the .itl extension, any settings you change or playlists you add in Windows will not be transferred to the Mac unless you recover the Mac’s library from the iTunes Music Library.xml file that the PC would have kept current.
In the second instance, if you wish to run your library off of the external drive for both your Mac and Wintel PC, you would follow the same procedure described above, but you would need to have both an iTunes Library (Mac) and iTunes Library.itl (Windows) database files. Effectively, this would mean that once a change is made on either system, it will not be reflected on the other. As you are most likely to add new songs via your home computer, you will need to replace the .itl file with a copy of the Mac database file whenever you add music, playlists, etc.
Given the storage capacity of my Power Mac G5 and the logistics involved in managing a library stored solely on an external volume going between a Mac and PC, I find the second option to be more trouble than it is worth. For me, it is easier to maintain my Mac’s iTunes library then copy the iTunes folder over to the external drive overnight when I wish to make any updates (e.g., new content, playlists, etc.) available to my work computer. In the morning, I just add the .itl extension to database file before disconnecting the external drive and taking it to work.
Now that your first two questions are answered, yes you can have more than one library, but doing so is poor database management. You should have all of your content in a single database and use iTunes to separate content. iTunes already separates music, movies, podcasts, audiobooks, etc., but further division of content is up to the user. iTunes has had playlists and folders for a few versions now, so it is quite easy to organize your library’s content in as simple or complex a folder/playlist structure as you please.
How album artwork is saved depends on how you acquired your music. Music you purchase from the iTunes Store has its artwork placed into a separate artwork database built in the Album Artwork folder in your iTunes folder. I believe that the same occurs if you allow iTunes to find and import album covers. If you rip CDs or acquire music from other sources, you manually add the artwork, in which case the images are stored in the music files.
Lastly, when iTunes has to build a library it can take a while. Your library is twice as large as mine and on a slow(er) laptop drive the time to built a library will be excessive. Unless iTunes is crashing or freezing, let it runs its course until the library build is completed. Also, if you have copied your music files to your laptop’s internal hard drive, you should not leave iTunes referencing the external drive. In the worst case, you would want to copy your iTunes folder from the external to the laptop’s internal drive’s default iTunes folder location. Remove the iTunes Library file and allow iTunes on your laptop to rebuild the library from the XML file.

  • External Drive for OSX and Windows

    Dear all,
I read somwhere that it is possible to use an external HD which can be used as an intermediate for documents between a PowerMac and Windows 2000 computer.
The article suggested that when using the Disk Utility program of Apple, the Ext. HD should be erased using the MS-Dos modus. This I did. After that it mentioned that by clicking on the Partion tab, under the "Option" button MS-DOS file structure should be selected.
However my DU program says: "No Options Available".
I'm still using OS 10.3.9 and I will upgrade when OS 10.5 becomes available.
Question: Why is the "Options" button not available? If this is because of using 10.3.9 how can I bypass the option and make the Windows computer see the External HD as well?
    Thanks for your input,
    Hans.

For now, while you need 10.4.6 to select GUID partition table, you can still setup a drive with FAT32 partitions. Format it on Windows perhaps.
Disk Utility -> Partitions -> Options....
    GPL/GUID for Intel Macs
    APL for PowerPC
    Master Record Block for Windows
With Intel Macs you can install and run Windows XP SP2, Vista, XP Pro.
Hans, right now is probably the best time to update the OS. Tiger 10.4.9 is as complete as possible probably and esp. for PPC Macs. I think it runs better than 10.3.9 did.
While 10.5 will offer something different and new, the best time to upgrade is not when it is released sometimes, but rather once it reaches 10.5.3+ (ie, a year from now or later). Play and test it but depend on it 100%? Usually there are needed changes to software and hardware to "catch up."
Right now Tiger DVD 10.4.6 are available. Apple felt it worth putting out newer DVDs.

  • External drive for both Mac & Windows

I'd like to be able to do the smart thing and have a backup of the drives on my iMac. I've got Windows installed thru Boot Camp, which I access using VMware Fusion.
When I visited an Apple Store, one of the guys there told me that I could get an external hard drive, format it for each drive, and Time Machine would back it up. Having no idea how to do this, I thought I'd check here.
First of all, I'm not sure whether to get a 500GB or 1TB external HD--I have a 500GB HD on my iMac, but I'm only using roughly 100GB of it, and I have no plans to use much more than 150GB. Do I need a huge drive?
Once I have the HD, how do I format it for Mac & Windows XP separately? I know I have to partition it, but after that....what?
Next, is it possible to use Time Machine for both drives? Or will I only be able to use it for the Mac drive and manually backup XP?
After reading some other posts, I'm wondering if it's wise to update to 10.5.5. Any advice on this?
    Any help/suggestions would be great--thanks!

TM will not backup a Windows partition. If you create a disk image drive with VM Fusion TM will back it up, but only the entire image file.
If you partition an external drive using GUID, then you can format one of the partitions FAT32 to use with Windows, but TM will not backup that partition nor backup anything on your main drive to that partition.
A TM backup drive or partition should be at least twice the capacity of the capacity of the drive you are backing up. If your iMac drive is 500 GBs then your backup drive's capacity should be roughly twice that size (less the space you have allocated as the Boot Camp partition.)
There's no reason not to update to 10.5.5, but if you prefer not to that's your choice. It isn't necessary although if you are going to use TM it would be wise to update because several TM bugs have been fixed by the 10.5.5 update.

  • Tricky stuff: formating hard drive for Mac and Windows

Don't know how to format an external USB hard drive for these purposes:
#1. Store a bootable backup for my MacBook (Intel)
#2. Must be readable and writeable by both Mac OS 10.4 and WinXP (mainly for file storage)
Can I do 2 partitions, with Mac OS Extended (journal) + GUID to serve purpose #1, and MS-DOS + Master Boot Record to serve purpose #2? My research suggests no, it seems both volumes must use either GUID or MBR? Thanks

    Hi,
I have two Western Digital external HDs with nearly exactly these specs.
Partitioned them with GUID partition scheme and have Partition 1 as bootable OSX clone and partition 2 with FAT32 for file storage/sharing between OSX and Windows.
So, what you want is what I have/use right now.
