  • Windows 7 Driver for Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG

    Hi,
I've upgraded my MotionComputing LE1600 Tablet from Vista Business to Windows 7. A relatively seemless process and a more efficient OS. However, I need the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG driver for my WiFi card or maybe even a generic one? Anyway have a suggestions?
    Thanks,
    j

I have a DELL Lattitude D830 with the Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN. I upgraded from Vista Business 32bit and all of the netwrok connections (wired and wireless) went out. The wireless told me I had an invalid IP configuration and that I could connect locally, but not internet. Looked like a DHCP issue - couldn't get a valid IP configuration, coudn't specify static IP information.
I tried *everything* to get the network to work. Luckily, I stumbled across this post. If you aren't familiar with it (I wasn't), in order to install in Vista Compatibility mode, right-click on the .msi and choose "Troubleshoot Compatibility", then choose Vista from the list of OSs. I DID get the latest drivers, both from Dell and Intel (The one that I installed was from Dell, haven't tried the Intel version which is slightly newer under this process). You may have to get the newest version to get it working - not sure.

  • Need Help for Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Netw Card

Hello, I have an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Netw Card on an LG laptop model no LW65-PCMU1 with Windows XP PRO.
The wireless card will not detect any networksAfter re installing windows and its drivers. And I do have a LINKSYS Wireless-G 2.4GHZ Broadband Router. But one other thing. The first time I got the computer it had this probleme. Then for some reason I had to format and re install windows and It worked. Now once again, I formated today and its back to when I got the computer.
If someone understands this blabering, can you please help.
    Thanks
    SgtJoeDes

The first thing to try is to simply turn off your computer's software firewall, and see if this helps you get a wireless connection.  Note that some Zone Alarm users have had to uninstall Zone Alarm to get the firewall turned off.
Next, be sure you download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
If you are trying to use WPA2 encryption ( = PSK2 = WPA with AES ) , then you should note that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=893357 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.
To run a wireless card you need 2 things, a "driver" and a "wireless card configuration program".  Windows has a built in "wireless card configuration program" called WZC (Windows Wireless Zero Configuration)  (sometimes called Windows automatic wireless configuration).    Some manufacturers use WZC, while others supply their own wireless card configuration program.
It is important to note that you should not try to use both WZC and the manufacturer's wireless configuration program at the same time.  Use one, and make sure the other is disabled.  If both are turned on at the same time, this can cause the wireless card to malfunction.
Whether you use WZC or the manufacturer's wireless configuration program, you will still need to use the "driver" from the manufacturer.
If you are using WEP encryption, please note that in your computer, you must enter "key 1"  ( found in the router) ,  not the WEP password or passphrase.

  • DVD/Lightscribe drive for new (late 2010 Mac Pro?

Does anyone know a source for an internal DVD w/ Lightscribe drive for a late 2010 Mac Pro? I want to install it in the second drive bay. I got one from OWC, but the depth of the DVD drawer was about twice that of the original drive that came with the Mac Pro. It would have been able to fit through the drop cover on the front of the Pro, but would not clear the internal rack components. It fit in the rack nicely with the 4 screws lining up properly, but would then not open more than about an eighth of an inch before hitting the internal rack frame, causing it to close. Thanks.

Bummer! The instructions included with the drive did not mention thi. When I called OWC customer service she said that sometimes you had to remove the bezel from the Mac. I told her the Pro had no bezel. She said that the drive info did not specifically say it would fit a 2010 Pro a d gave me a RMA.'nmh bad for not questioning further. Thanks.

How do I scan a jump drive for a virus on a Macbook Pro?

    Kat52 wrote:
Does a new Macbook Pro come with a virus program?
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple. Robust anti-virus and anti-malware protections have been integrated in OS X since its inception, and have only improved in the many years since then. Mavericks represents the beneficiary of all that experience. There is no separate program to install, but there are features you can use and practices you can observe to customize or augment those protections:
OS X Mavericks: Protect your Mac
OS X Mavericks: Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mavericks: Keep your information safe
    OS X About Gatekeeper
About file quarantine in OS X
If you install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp or virtualization software, Windows requires its own anti-virus measures. That's nothing new.
The following principles are intended specifically for OS X but can be adapted for any operating system or device.
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Need newest driver for ATI Radeon 3650 - Satellite Pro A300-1NT

    Hello everyone,
I am looking for the newest drivers for ATI Radeon HD 3650 onboard Satelite Pro A300-1NT.
During playing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) game by Beenox Inc ..... I get pixelized squares on tthe screen (instead of dust) and eventually blue screen.
I am using Windows XP Pro
I looked for drivers on *Toshiba website* and the only I found are:
12/01/09 Display Driver ATI Windows XP 8.477
*Game support* suggests upgrading driver for a newer one.
*Ati manufacturer support* have driver for ATI Radeon 8650 but not compatibile with Mobile Solution - and when asked for Mobile Ati support I got the ansfer:
+AMD Customer Care for ATI products does not provide direct technical support for laptops/notebooks at this current time (telephone or email). If you require direct technical support please contact the system manufacturer of your laptop/notebook.+

I ask then are there newest drivers for Windows XP

    Hi
I think you have already answered this question by yourself...
As you wrote you can get all drivers on the Toshiba website and if there isnt a newer driver available you can nothing more I think. Satellite A300 isnt a high performance gaming notebook so I think display drivers are not so important.
The only way to get a newer version is that you search on external websites. Maybe you can get the desktop driver working due some modifications I dont know but be really careful!!! Other drivers dont have an overheat protection and you could destroy the graphic chip. Be really careful what you do.
Alternative you can search on the Toshiba website for other notebook models with ATI card too. Maybe there you can get a newer version

  • What is the right HD drive for the new (2008) mac pro

what's exactly the difference between Sata I, Sata II, sata 150, sata 300, sata 3gb ???
what drive's should i use in the new mac pro ? any advice / clearification would be great !

Thats a very good drive, I've been using them in Sony Vaios and laptops for years in various forms and they are blazing fast, never had one problem with them.
I think they have software on the website which lets you config the drive for acoustically quieter operation or 'full bore' speed. Been awhile since I've bought one so maybe thats not available anymore.

  • Question about Formatting Buffalo USB 1TB external drive for use with Mac Book Pro Mountain Lion HD

Hi there, Have Mountain Lion HD operating system (not sure if it is 10.8 or 10.8.1. or 10.8.2)  and have a Buffalo USB 3.0 1TB hard drive. When go to utilities to try and format with Mac OS extended, following 3 files show. DriveNavi. exe, Slm.exe and Mac. The option to left click and erase menu is not there. Or at least not as shown in all the help videos.
It is USB connection so will take ages but want to use drive to store video footage and also partition to back up Time Machine. ( travelling in South America and no other Ext Drive option available too buy) how much space should i assign to Time Machine when partitioning?  Is there anything else i need to think about? as new to formatting. Any thing else i can do to make process of transfering footage to Buffalo quicker?
Final question is if it is finally reformatted am i going to have to spend so long accessing footage from hard drive when back home and editing that it really is not worth if, and i should just write this off as an inappropriate purchase, and try and buy more memory cards and not bother with transfering/storing? Thanks in advance for time spent trying to assist.

Use Apple's Disk Utility in the Applications/Utilities folder to format the drive.
The programs on the drive given to you by the manufacturer is likely backup software (or malware) and essentially worthless, it will be wiped when you format the drive.
I do NOT advise you partition that drive for TimeMachine, rather I advise you not to use TimeMachine at all for your purposes because TM is just a backup, not a bootable drive.
    Rather do this.
Get another hard drive that is equal to or slightly larger than your boot drive.
Format the drive in Disk Utiltiy > 1 Partition, option: GUID, Format: OS X Extended journaled, click Erase and move the slider one spot to the right and click Erase. This will take some time as it's going to map off any failing sectors it can BEFORE you lay data on the drive corrupting it.
Next, pay for and download Carbon Copy Cloner, use the default settings and simply clone internal drive to the external drive. this will also take some time the first time.
Next use Disk Utility to Repair Permisisons on both drive. Now reboot the machine and hold the option key down, you can select the external drive clone to boot from!!
You can update the clone the same way by using CCC, but it doesn't take as long, only copying changes.
This is better than TimeMachine as a bootable clone is bootable in case your internal drive fails to boot the machine.
Use the first drive for storage and be very gentle with it while it running, like you should do for all hard drives as they are subjective to shock damage.
The objective with the clone drive is you keep it safe, and not carting it around where it can be more subjective to damage like the other drive will be.
Remmeber you need 2 forms of hardware backup at all times.
    Most commonly used backup methods

  • My Macbook Pro will not find or use the downloaded driver for my new Canon Pixma MX479 wireless printer

I have been fussing for hours with a Canon Pixma MX479 printer I received as a gift. The printer was obviously designed for PC control, and has terrible instructions for setting up the wireless capability, but I finally found a few hints online about how to add a WPS printer to my Airport Extreme, so I can finally detect the printer. However, when I try to add the printer, either under System Preferences or while just doing a print, my MacBook requires that I download a driver from Apple to use it. When I attempt to do that, I get a message the driver software is unavailable from Apple and that I should contact the manufacturer for the driver. I have already downloaded and installed the Mac OS driver from Canon twice, but my MacBook apparently can't find it. So I am forced to use Airprint in order to communicate with the printer. I would like to use the proper software to make sure I am accessing all of the features the printer offers. Can anyone tell me how to associate the downloaded driver with my printer when I am attempting to add it?

    Hi Dwntso!
Welcome to the Canon Forums and thanks for posting!
So that the Community can help you better, we will need to know any error messages you're seeing either on your computer or the printer, and the version of OS X you've got on your MacBook as well as the way you intend to connect to your printer (USB or networked via WiFi or Ethernet).
Any other details you'd like to give will only help the Community better understand your issue!

  • Seg fault using catalyst(-total) driver for my ATI/intel hybrid card

I am using a HP Envy 14 with Radeon 5650.
    This is my lspci: http://pastebin.com/5w7SFdrK
What I've done so far is I've installed xf86-video-intel (for the onboard card) and catalyst-total (from AUR) for the discrete card. I am using the proprietary version since I need the HDMI output.
Then I've done a aticonfig --initial , blacklisted radeon module in modprobe.d , and then installed the relevant packages for startx to work.
This is the seg fault log from /var/log/Xorg.0.log: http://pastebin.com/PsPbiXj7
This is the my xorg.conf: http://www.pastebin.com/NviWjr0i
I am stuck now, how can I proceed?
    Thanks!

I wanted to Bump this because I have the same laptop with the same setup and get the same errors.  I have tried all methods suggested for installing the catalyst to this intel/ati setup including the AUR files catalyst and catalyst-utils, the unofficial catalyst repository and the official ATI installer.  Hope somebody might be able to help us out with this.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Best external floppy drive for an iMac Intel?

I have some ancient ClarisWorks 2.0 files I'm looking to resurrect some day. Peggy here has steered me to a software program that my iMac can use to open them, but I need some guidance as to a good working USB floppy drive. Thanks!

USB floppy drives were never terribly reliable on Mac OS X, and I'm not sure if any will work on an Intel-based Mac. But my limited experience was that any USB floppy drive was as good as any other, and probably has as good a chance at working as any other drive. Tiger Direct still lists some, and you may find other dealers as well. It may be more cost effective, though, if you can find a helpful dealer or fellow user (perhaps through a Mac user group) that would have a Mac with a floppy and a USB port you could use, and use a USB flash drive to transfer those old files to your new Mac.
Note if you elect to get a USB floppy that none of the drives ever have recognized the old 400k and 800k Apple floppy formats; your disks must be 1.4MB.
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Please help me find an effective solution for an external optical drive for my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro.

I have replaced my optical drive with a DataDoubler and they both work fine but the new external optical drive enclosure doesn't work with the optical drive I took out of my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro... Well it does work and recognises my optical drive perfectly, it runs fine but it can't handle some disk installations.
I have heard that the apple external superdrive isn't reliable for playing DVD's or lasting either.
Can I have someone with experience with external optical drives to give me professional advice or just other people with solutions.
Below is an image of what I have now for an enclosure.

  • Reformating external hard drive for use with new MacBook Pro

I'm trying to figure out how to use an existing external hard drive (formatted for a Powermac G4) with my new MacBook Pro. I understand that the file formats are different and that I need to erase the hard drive and reformat it with a GUID partition, but how does one do that?
I've already erased the drive with disk utility (using the old Powermac) and connected it to my MacBook with the hope that it would be recognized. No dice, alas. It doesn't mount at all.
Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My external harddrives all work just fine with the MacBook Pro. You shouldn't have to reformat anything. I think if you did then it would not be backwards compatable with the older systems. Stick it back in your old computer and try to mount it again, repair permissions shutdown your macbook pro and connect the external drive then reboot

  • Logic 9 "disc too slow"  2 TB drive for recording audio on Mac pro tower, lots of system HD space 6 gigs ram?????

I purchased a Mac pro tower in 2008 it has a 320 GB system drive with lots of room left I have 2 500 GB drives and just purchased a new 2 TB 7200 RPM drive just to record from Logic onto it. I have 6 GB of Ram. I have been having this problem for years and I'm getting quite sick of it!.. I just set up a new 24 track project and I'm recording into logic via firewire with my Presonus firestudio and 2 digimax FS units at 44.1k and cant even record a few songs without it stopping in the middle of recording. This is sooo frustrating. Imagine when the band comes up with something cool and asks me to play it back and walk up to my $4,000 mac with my $500 worth of Logic to see it say Disc too slow!. I have seen this problem on many forums. Mac needs to fix this!. It makes me want to make a youtube vid of me burning my Mac with lighter fluid in the yard!. I purchased the "best of the best" at the time and Logic wont even work on a brand new Mac pro properly!?.. Cmon Apple help me out here???

Now that I've had time to stew over your comments. I do appreciate what you are saying however there should be another way to remedy this problem without having to purchase anything (ie in the software or an update, new version from apple). I ran a recording studio for Several years. I also did put a lot of thought and research into purchasing my Setup and had many compliments on the sound quality. What I'm saying is that Logic 9 should have no problem functioning on my computer. I think mac has made a poor product. I bet if I purchased the Pro Tools equivalent to Logic 9 that i could record 24 channels till the cows come home and get no errors. What I need to know is if there is something that I havent tried in my settings or software that can fix this. I think 6 gigs of Ram should be more than enough to work with. Here is what Apple has to say:
    Minimum System Requirements
    2GB of RAM (4GB recommended).
Display with 1280-by-768 resolution or higher.
    OS X v10.6.8 or later.
Minimum 3.4GB of disk space. (19GB of optional content available via in-app download).
So why should I have to purchase any Ram when it's supposed to work on only 3.4 gigs?... That's why your answer frustrated me. I meant no personal insult. I just think there has to be a better answer out there. I do appreciate your input though .
