  • Using iPod as a Storage Device

I am having trouble using my iPod as a storage device. I have a video I am trying to store and then transfer to my Playstation 3 that is 4.4GB, my ipod has roughly 14GB of free space. I have tried to just drag and drop the file onto my iPod but continue to get an error message that reads "Disk in the destination drive is full." Anyone know what the problem is? Yesterday I successfuly transfered a small video that was about 20-50MB with no problems.

The iPod is formatted in FAT 32 for Windows. FAT32 cannot use files larger than 4GB.

  • Need driver for iPod video and Windows Vista

I had an iPod video and it synched no problem to my computer. There was a hardware issue inside the iPod so i sent it back and got a new one. Now when I connect it to my computer, it brings up the looking for a driver window and says it can't find it. Its only been a week since it worked fine.. I don't know if there is an issue with the new iTunes or what but has anyone had any experience with this issue or can simply tell me where to directly download or find the driver?

I too have had a problem with needing a driver for ipod. My ipod was working fine, then my computer stopped recognizing the ipod. It says it needs a driver for the ipod and I can't find one anywhere...need help..please

  • Just bought 1T ext hard drive for back up, addl storage, boot backup?

I am a NOVICE. Just purchased 1T ext hard drive for backups and additional storage for music, docs, photos, etc. Should I partition, and also include boot? Does this mean 3 equal partitions? Or how much should be dedicated to boot drive? In case you couldn't tell, I am talking over my head.

Thank you for responding. I didn't even know I was Snow Leopard. I should have the disks somewhere, though I'm not sure where the "safe" place is that I put them. The ioSafe instructions suggested Time Machine, though I've heard it can have issues. The external hard drive instructions also suggested using 1 partion and Apple Partition Map, but I see comments suggesting that GUID is better for intel macs which I believe this is as the info says:
    Processor Name:          Intel Core i3
The "about this mac" info says memory 4 GB. When I select "get info" on the HD it says Capacity: 499.76 GB. So I'm not sure. I have a lot of music CD's I want to install my itunes library currently contains 3.32 GB and that is nowhere close to all the music I want to add. I also need to save MANY text docs, large PDFs and high resolution photos. And would like to start exploring creative Adobe Software, and don't know how big those files end up being.

  • Vista is asking for a device driver for ipod vid

I dont have a device driver for it and cant find one so the system wont let me install it. it just leaves a ? in the device manager next to ipod

I am in no way teccy but logged on to this discussion site in desperation this morning after getting same message as you after buying ipod yesterday (twas second ipod and trying to run off one library but long story). I deleted previous software and started again. Tried a few bits from this help site, in particular the article suggested to you earlier but end bit where you uninstall the driver, then kept ipod plugged in and restarted machine; then when vista driver menu started again, asked it to search the whole C: drive for device driver, which it seemed to find somewhere (as I said, not teccy).
End result being that I still get the same message asking for device driver but if I ignore it (ie, click 'next time please' or whatever it says) itunes syncs my new ipod brilliantly (music and photos, not tried vid yet).
Am sure some experts having kittens, but in my ignorance, I have a working ipod and hope Vista and Apple can sort out required tweaks soon and give me auto update. Best of luck.

  • Windows can't find driver for ipod nano 7th generation

I just got the IPod Nano 7th generation.  When I plugged I in the computer will pick up the apple mobile storage device usb driver, but I get an error for the iPod saying that no driver was found.  I have tried connecting to different usb ports and also tried uninstalling anything related to the iPod or iTunes.  So, any help would be appreciated.

Ok I fixed the problem I had.  I went under device manager and right-clicked the ipod icon, and told it to update the driver.  For the update though I didn't use the automatic search.  I told it to search in the location  (windows/winsxs) and it found the driver.  I hope this helps somebody else.
    Since I didn't mention it earlier I have Windows 7 64-bit.

  • Using ipod as a storage device, need some help

I want to use my ipod nano as a storage device and transfer my "mac" music files onto "windows" computer. Can i do that?

Not without the aid of some 3rd party software such as XPlay2.
Windows cannot read a Mac formatted drive.
Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.
If you do that, you can use the iPod as a storage drive.

  • Ipod used as storage device and CS3

I have a few students who want to use their Ipods to store their projects onto to work on other computers around the school. I know the Ipod works as a sort of external hard drive but will it work with CS3 PP?
Also, I have been trying to explain to a few of my students the concept of saving their work in CS3. Many fall under the impression that "save project" will simply give them the files they need, when instead it's just the shell of their project. Is there a way to actually quickly save ALL of your used files to another location or is a simple case of copy and paste?
I'd like for them to be able to use any external on any computer and not have Adobe missing files they have to relocate each time they connect the external drive.
    Thanks a lot!

Maybe I misunderstood your question, but if you are looking to save or transfer a project in CS3 to another computer you want to consider two things: File management, and Platform. For file management, instruct your students to reset the scratch disks to a project folder that contains all of their project files each time they start a new project. This way all the files that they use in their projects and want to transfer to another system are in one folder. From there it is a simple matter of cutting and pasting the project folder to where ever they like.
Depending on the size of the iPod, they can use it as a storage device, they just need to think about the Platforms (Mac, PC, Linux) they are using. You cannot interchange CS3 project files from a Mac onto a PC. The same might be for the iPod. If it is formatted for a PC and their project is on a Mac (or vise versa) the iPod might not let you transfer the files. Or they may transfer, but will not be usable on their final editing system (platform). I have not tested that so I might not have it right there. But in theory...
    Hope that helps.

  • Will NOT Install Driver for iPod!`

My computer recently crashed, so I had to do a system restore. I managed to reinstall iTunes, which works fine. When I connect my iPod to my computer, however, it registers as being an iPod, and tries to install it, and always fails. It tries to install the drivers for both the iPod and the USB Mass Storage device. In Device Manager, it says that the driver has not yet been installed. I have tried downloading the new driver from Apple. It just says there is an error, the installation cannot continue. Please help!

It tries to install the drivers for both the iPod and the USB Mass Storage device. In Device Manager, it says that the driver has not yet been installed.
hmmm. iPods actually use the standard Windows USB mass storage drivers.
it's possible that those might have gone missing from the PC due to the restore (or the events leading up to the restore). so it might be worth trying the techniques from this MarkJones post:

  • HT1481 How to find a driver for iPod Shuffle 2nd generation

Could someone please direct me to a place I can find a driver for a 2nd generation iPod Shuffle? In Windows 7  it says Device not Recognized, unknown driver. In device manager says there is no driver, I've tried everything. I would really like to use this again.

The required drivers should be installed when you install iTunes.  The latest version is available here

  • Problems using iPod as mobile storage device - keeps disconnecting!

Basically I'm having problems using my using my 4th generation iPod as a mobile storage device. I'm using a firewire connection to my PC running Windows XP to transfer files but at a certain point through the copy the ipod will lose the connection but the PC still thinks it's connected. This then causes my whole PC to lock up and require a restart. It's really quite weird as it never used to do this.
I'm using the latest iPod firmware and have restored/restarted a number of times.
    Can anyone help me out.

The iPod is formatted in FAT 32 for Windows. FAT32 cannot use files larger than 4GB.

  • Mass Storage Driver Severe Crash - USB Mass Storage device useless

I am running the latest, updated version of OSX Leopard; Hardware Growler; and Parallels Desktop. Today, as I was doing a very resource-intensive task on Windows XP - via parallels - I plugged in my Samsung M610 to try to access the memory card. I then closed Windows XP, and noticed that my cpu was still registering at 100% output. Opening Activity Monitor and looking at the processes there, I saw that Mass Storage was taking 100.00 units of CPU output, and was not responding, I immediately clicked end process. Much to my dismay however, Activity Monitor then proceeded to lock up, so I forced it to quit, which caused finder to lock up in turn. Throughout this time, my cpu was still working overtime, so I decided to power the computer off. Upon rebooting and much "whew"-ing I tried to plug my Cell Phone in again; as usual Hardware Growler notified me of the connection and it's details, however, confusingly finder had no knowledge of any mass storage connection. After multiple connects and reconnects, testing all USB ports on my MBP (and being annoyed by the system telling me to properly find and eject hardware before removing it, which I suppose I should take as a good sign) my memory card remained invisible to finder. Hardware growler continues to perfectly recognize the device connection.
The most odd thing about this particular problem, is that other USB devices are recognized... at least one other Mass storage device is, but I have only one other device to test at the moment.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
