  • Changing driver for motherboard mounted NIC (Realtek 8169 to 8168)

    Hey there.
I'm back from Ubuntu attempting to install Archlinux again, and this time I've found a way to bypass the weblogin  necessary for Internet access from my ISP by purchasing a simple DLink DIR-100 router. However, my network connection is extremely jumpy I have come to notice, and there's no saying wether DHCP will work or not. In Ubuntu I managed to resolve the issue by downgrading the driver for my motherboard mounted Realtek 8111 NIC from 8169 to 8168, however I'm struggling to do this in Archlinux.
Is it possible to select the 8168 driver during install?

Well I got Arch up and running along with X, although not yet ALSA, by using the latest .iso. I downloaded an old one, but the installation screwed up a bit, and I ran out of empty DVDs. Still, I got the source for the r8168-8.005.00 driver, and would like to replace the r8169 with it, but what do I do?
On Ubuntu I did it like this (after extracting of course):
    > sudo mv r8168 /usr/src/
    > cd /usr/src/r8168
    > sudo make clean modules
    > sudo make install
    > sudo depmod -a
    > sudo insmod ./src/r8168.ko
    > lsmod | grep r8168 # Just to check it's there.
    > cd /etc/modprobe.d
    > sudo touch blacklist-network
    > nano blacklist-network
Add "blacklist r8168" to the empty file.
    > sudo update initramfs -u # To make the change permanent.
    Logout and reboot.
    > ethtool -i eth0 # To check that it's using the new (old) driver.
Already at the third step I run into trouble. It gives me this error message:
I'd have posted a code snippet, but as you can see I'm also having some trouble with X, although it appears every now and then, and isn't bound to this driver exchange experiment. I think. It may have been caused of forgetting to install fonts before I went ahead with Openbox, although except for that and skipping ALSA (because I'm getting an error as soon as I try
    > alsamixer
but that's another story) I followed the Beginner's Guide from top to bottom. It may also be the cause of GNOME, which I installed because I found that there was (and IS) something very odd with how my "desktop enviroment" (consisting of Openbox, PyPanel, Nitrogen, Thunar, Conky etc) looked, a slight blur, to be frank. However, when I started X with GNOME, it looked just like it used to in Ubuntu, a sharp and clear display. So something ought to be missing for me, that GNOME has, but I'd rather not use GNOME since it uses almost twice as much RAM as my Openbox combo does according to Conky. If you know what would be the cause of this, I'd be very happy to hear that as well.
    Any ideas?
(This is so much fun compared to Ubuntu by the way, go Arch!)

  • Alternate SSD Driver for Bootcamp?

    Hi --
I installed a Patriot Warp 128 GB SSD installed in early 2010 13" MacBook pro, and the performance of the drive is just fine on the Mac side, but when I use bootcamp to get into Windows XP, this drive is sooooo slow. The only think Patriot will suggest is to find a different drive for my motherboard's mass storage controller. Does anyone know of any other drivers that might fix my issue, or of any driver alternatives to what is provided in Bootcamp?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer...

Unfortunately Patriot does not offer an upgrade for the firmware of this particular model. Funny you mention it though, because they sent me this drive after the last one bricked when I tried to update its firmware. After this experience I'm would not recommend Patriot SSDs to anyone.
I've had the best results with Intel drives, but I'm sorta stuck with this one as they say. It was Patriot though that recommended find a new driver.
    Thanks for your thoughts though.
    Bleh.

  • Error installing Driver for audio device in MS-6585 Motherboard

    Hi,
I have MS-6585 Max L motherboard. I installed windows 2000 with SP4. When I tried to install driver for the audio device, it always fails with the following error.
An error occurred during the installation of the device.
    The data is invalid.
And in the Device status in the properties menu
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
I tried to download the latest driver using the "Live Update" and it didn't help. I tried few other options suggested in the web.
The usual cause of this problem in Windows 2000/XP systems is Registry keys that are set as read-only.
From the Start menu, click Run and enter RegEdit to run the Registry Editor. Open the following - Keys => HKey_Local_machine => System => CurrentControlSet => Enum => PCI.
You will see several keys in this form - Ven_xxxx - where xxxx represents a string such as - 1102&Dev_004&Subsys_00011103&Rev_04.
In each of these folders there is another folder that has a long numerical name. Open each of these folders, and look for the DeviceDesc entry that matches the type of hardware that you are trying unsuccessfully to install. Use the right mouse button to click on the Ven_xxxx entry for that device, and click Permissions. If it is set to read-only, then that is the cause of the problem. To rectify it, change it to Allow Full Control.
I'm stuck and I am not sure what else to try. Its not clear to me where the problem is. Is there any log I can look? Any other suggestions please
BTW, It used to work..I had to reinstall windows 2000 and after the clean/format reinstallation it stopped working.
    thanks for any help
    Suresh

It might be that the drivers are for WinXP. Are you 100% sure they are for 2000? Can you get a copy of XP, it would prabobly solve youre problem.

  • Cannot install LAN driver for my "KT6 Delta Series" motherboard

I've got this motherboard (KT6 Delta Series). Bought it second hand recently and I haven't got the original MSI driver CD. I downloaded all the drivers from the MSI website (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=474&kind=1) but I'm not able to install the driver for my onboard LAN.
I just get a yellow dot on the ethernet controller under unknown devices in my device manager. When I try to update driver from device manager by searching the folder where I unzipped the driver, I just get a message saying something like "no driver could be found for this device in the selected folder... will you connect to Windows Update to search for a driver...?". I've also tried to install it the hard way by selecting "from floppy disc" and browse for the "b44win.inf" file inside the "WinXP" folder in the unzipped driver folder... but I stilll get an error message... saying something like "can't find any information of the hardware in the selected folder"... it's a bit difficult for me to describe the messages correctley because not English Windows version.
I've downloaded both LAN drivers for this card from MSI download site (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=474&kind=1). Both "Broadcom 5788 LAN Drivers" and "Broadcom 4401 LAN Drivers" and non of them will install on my system. I've also tried downloading from the Broadcom website (http://www.broadcom.com/drivers/downloaddrivers.php). NON of them will install (
I've just formated my harddrive with fresh Windows XP install... The only software already installed is drivers for my motherboard and AGP card. No other software that can make any conflicts. When I connect a network cable to the onboard LAN the yellow light goes on so it seems the card itself is working.... but where can I get a driver that will install???
I've also tried connecting another network card (realtek 10/100) and connected my ADSL internett through it... and used the MSI Live Update utility... but still no luck... the only network driver it gets is the one for my reltek card :-(
    Any suggestions???
I use Windows XP Professional SP2. How do I install the drivers for my onboard LAN???
    Best regard.

"...so my onboard Broadcom 4401/5788 controller thinks it is a 3COM controller instead of a broadcom controller..." Think it shouldn't be possible since basic data should be written in a kind of ROM.  Now, if that could happen, it should be possible to reverse it the same way you did to overwrite that data.
I belive you are right... but I can't reverse it the same way I did when overwrite the data... because I'm not able to install the driver :( I cannot install the driver at all in Windows XP. In Windows ME it's possible to force the installation of the driver... but it does not work. It moves from unknown devices to network controllers... but it gets a yellow dot... and is not working. Every time I boot Windows ME I get a message reporting that something is wrong with the broadcom ethernet controller :(
I belive the only way I can reverse it is to replace my harddrive with another... with Windows XP and drivers for my card is already installed on the harddrive... the same way as I did when overwriting the rom file(s) with data from my Asus board... but I can't make such a harddrive when the drivers won't install on my card :(
I maybe think this also has happend to the onboard Audio controller... and maybe the chipsett also :( The audio controller works perfectley eith the MSI C-Media drivers... but when I run MSI live update... I get drivers for the C-Media device... but also drivers for "VIA AC97" audio controller can be downloaded from the MSI Live Update Utility... The "VIA AC97" is the audio controller on my Asus board... so I belive it has happened here also... and maybe also to the "VIA 4in1" chipset... but this is the same "VIA KT600" chipset as on my Asus board. When updating my Via 4in1 driver, I just get an option to update the inf file. But normaly on "Via 4in1" drivers on other boards I know, there shold be installed drivers for PCI, IDE and AGP. Is it the same way for you guys with this motherboard? Is it only the "Inf file" to update for you guys also?
What I think is most frustrating here is that things like this cab happen. This can happen to everybody. Many times I've switched harddrive from one computer to another... and I've never experienced anything like this before. This time I was not planing to boot the harddrive at all... just format it... but forgot to set the right boot order... so the harddrive booten... and that's all it takes to "destroy" my board. Shouldn't these ROM files be a littlebit more difficult to overwrite, you think? Why doesn't MSI writeprotect their ROM files or anything... to make them a littlebit more difficult to destroy...?
Well... I'm still interested in advices on how to "restore" my motherboard data to the original values... and remember... clear CMOS and update BIOS is not enough :(

i installed the first one and when i try to installed the second one it tell me that there is a newer version installed.
need a clarification for those driver.

Because the 'older' one is the right one for your mainboard's chipset series. Unless found otherwise in some official Intel information, ME 9 is not the proper version and may not work correctly.

  • Need SM Bus Controller Driver for A75-S231

Unfortunately I am without my system and backup disks and I am in desperate need of a driver for the SM Bus Controller. Problem surfaced after re-install of XP Home.
I called Toshiba tech support to identify the motherboard chipset shipped with my unit (specs listed at end of post) so as to locate and download the driver. Unbelievably, Tech is not equipped to identify the make or model of my motherboard or identify the chipset. Third Party software tells me I have a Toshiba EDW10 Motherboard and tech searched the internet and told me I have some VIA motherboard and good luck finding your driver.
Please help, I didnt think that Toshiba of all people would be unable to identify their own systems but here I am 4 hours later bothering you good people and still hunting. Does anyone have the SM Bus controller driver for the A75-S231 or tell me what chipset was shipped with my unknown motherboard?

    Motherboard Toshiba EDW10???
    Thanks fo your help.

    Hi
As far as I know your unit must be an US notebook model and please try to check Toshiba US download page under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Please dont be mad on tech support but I dont see any reason why they should know every technical detail of your notebook. Toshiba has designed drivers for every hardware component that you can have anytime you want and install it 1000 times if you want. Toshiba guarantee that it will work properly and I dont see any problem there.
Technical details you can get from Authorized service partners in your country.
    Good luck!

    Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
It looks like you are facing issues with regards to the USB Ports on the Notebook
Please perform the below shown steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Now from within Windows (I assume you have Vista or Windows 7) go into device manager and find the USB hub(s) right click and go into properties/advanced. You will have the option to reset the hub. Do it for all hubs and restart the Unit.
    2.  Go into the BIOS (F10) and restore to default settings. Reboot.
Please Click on the below shown link to download and install the USB driver if the issue persists still
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_132256_1&sp4ts.oid=6431933
Note: If this still does not work, then your option is to have the motherboard repaired or replaced or just get a USB external hub so you can have more ports.

  • Setting Up SSD Solid State Drive for Cache...Help!

    Hello,
I am trying to configure my system to do really heavy special effects using After Effects and other programs.  I bought a new computer with specs below and a Solid State Drive for the cache as recommended in the White Papers.  I plug the SSD into a port on top of the machine.  I must have it configured wrong because I keep getting the message "disk cache folder cannot be the root of a volume."  I don't know how to configure this correctly so my work will use the SSD properly.  Can someone walk me through this?  Nicole  The SSD is a Seagate SSHD 1TB hybrid drive that is supposed to boot and perform like an SSD.  The motherboard is an Asus X79 and the processor is an i7 4820k (Ivy Bridge E) Thanks!

Open Windows Explorer (for Win7) which I think was renamed File Manager in Win8 and go to the "root" of the drive and right click and select New--Folder from the popup window

  • Looking for driver for intel GMA 3650

colours of background images of websites are all mapped to white and as such are invisible.
I guess the reason could be that the last event of the WIN 10 microsoft basic diplay adapter driver install was: Das Gerät "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0BE2&SUBSYS_40121297&REV_09\3&11583659&0&10" erfordert weitere Installationen.
If it wants to install further driver stuff this can only be the driver for the INTEL intel GMA 3650 graphic accelerator chip,
which is present on my motherboard.
my OS Win 10 tech preview build 9926

    Hi HB9RUZ,
If your Network connection is well and IE could open webpage correctly, you may find the proper driver on the Intel Website:
    http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/graphics/gma3600
Please note: As this website is not hosted by Microsoft, the information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.
Or if you would like to update the driver, you may take use of Device Manager:
Update or Change a Device Driver
Further, as Team Zigzag suggested, if you would like to upgrade to Windows 10 Build 10041, please check for your updates.
    For reference:
Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10041 now available
    Best regards

  • Ethernet driver for HP p7-1414

I need the Ethernet driver for my pc for Win 7. I have found all drivers including the WiFi driver so I can connect to Internet. But when I plug in my student cable, it doesn't do anything. My pc still remains connect wirelessly. So I need that driver. It a HP p7-1414. Thanks.

    Hi:
Rather than hunting down all of the drivers individually, the easiest thing would have been to find a model with the same motherboard as yours which has Windows 7 drivers.
All of the W7 drivers from this slightly older model will work on yours.
