Driver Install Error #0x80040201 on SB Live 5.1 0

Changed motherboards and still have never been able to get onboard sound to work. (3 motherboards). Last motherboard I bought the sound card and we got along great. This motherboard(Asus P4S800D-X) I finally gave up and put my Soundblaster Li've 5. Mdl.SB0220 and attempted to install the drivers after I went and made sure there was nothing in the way. Halfway through the install get a messageError Number: 0x8004020Description: An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers. Setup will now terminate. What the heck does this mean?

I'm a little seasoned in this stuff. It seems to me that your problem is not related to the Creative card, driver, or software. For this kind of help it might be more helpful for you to try posting your problems and all system information on forums like help.com (CNET), WindowsBBS, the Microsoft forums, computing.net, etc, etc.
I could try to help troubleshoot you but I would be the only one helping you, whereas if you post to those other kinds of computer forums you'll get access to lots of folks who have varied experiences.
You've got some work ahead, but keep at it and you'll get things running again.

  • G710 Windows 7 Pro x64 Bluetooth + Wireless driver install errors (can't install)

    Hi all,
I've recently just purchased the G710 i3 model as a birthday gift for my dad. It originally came with Windows 8 installed but my father prefers Windows 7 so I've installed this on a SSD (replacing the 1TB drive).
After updating Windows 7 Professional x64 with updates via ethernet I started to install all the drivers in the following order:
note: downloaded x64 drivers (for obvious reasons)
    chipset
graphics (intel hd4600 first followed by nvidia gt 720m)
    NIC LAN
    Audio
Bluetooth and Wireless (won't work - see below for errors)
    Touchpad
    Card Reader
    Webcam
    Intel Management Engine (ME)
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (RST)
BatteryCare (replacing the Lenovo Energy Management)
I've downloaded all from the Lenovo web site except up to date Chipset, ME and RST from Intel.
All drivers except for the Bluetooth and Wireless have installed fine. All Fn keys work except for the "Airplane Mode" (guessing due to the driver not being installed).
These are the following errors I get:
    http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt265/aniceguy85/forums_keep/x64_error01.png~original
after clicking on OK ... I get the following
    http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt265/aniceguy85/forums_keep/x64_error02.png~original
after clicking on OK ... there is another message displayed in the CMD window directly underneath the 1st one which is exactly the same text. Both windows then immediately close.
I tried the 32 bit version of the driver and got exactly the same result.
Can this be fixed so it can work? I'm hoping it's not just me.
Thanks for any help in advance, Pete

    hi pete_agreatguy,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The extraction maybe looking at a missing folder.
    When you downloaded the driver
WLAN and Bluetooth Driver (Intel, Broadcom, Qualcomm) for 64-bit Windows
When you doubleclick it it should pop up a winodw where you hit next , agree then it shows a page where you can see a box with a browse button. can you share if you are getting that?

  • Deploy node.js project failed with msnodesql driver install error

I want to deploy a node.js project on Azure Website
I use mssql with the "tedious" driver to access my database
But I got deployment error with "msnosesql" (another driver for mssql)
    install.js: Unable to download msnodesql-0.2.1-v0.10-ia32.msi
I found some solution, change the path to fix this download error
but after that I got another error
remote: install.js: Error: Command failed: Access is denied.
I seems that I don't have the permission to install this driver ?
Is there any way to solve this problem?

you cannot install new msi packages in Azure Websites due to multi tenant nature.
As alternative you can use following MS SQL driver for Node.JS
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlphp/archive/2012/06/08/introducing-the-microsoft-driver-for-node-js-for-sql-server.aspx
    Hope that helps,

  • JB Zen 2.0 USB Driver install is

    Doh!
I did not remember to NOT have my Zen USB 2.0 connected to my system when i did the installs from the CD, and I get a "device driver" install error every time I try to install the drivers, even after un-installing, etc.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Scott

I installed it on another PC, by installing the software first and then connecting the device, and it was fine.
On the PC in question, when I do connect the device, I do see the device listed in device manager, but it has a ? next to it, and I can never re-install the drivers, because they are in the .exe on the disk. Also, when I plug the device in, XP identifies it as USB, cause I get the ":ding", but Creative Window does not pop up from the system tray, as it does on the other system.
Again, I think the whole issue stems from having the device connected when I installed the software.
I've run thru the uninstall of the app, rebooted, and then even done the "remove programs" from control panel, but still no go.
There has to be somethiing buried in the registery.
I'm an IT professional (but not one of those hacks), but I'm stumped, so I'm turning to the pros.
Now, If I would not have turned off the system restore point utility, I would be ok...
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • New Internal Hard Drive and Clean Install: Errors, Frustration and Hopelessness

    First Off:
Macbook 13" (late 2009) ... It was running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 with 2 gigs of memory and 160gig stock hard drive.
I started this process almost a week ago and despite numerous attempts every night I have had no luck. I appologize if the details here are fuzzy, my head is spinning after reading dozens of threads and attempting multiple solutions to each error I've received and i cant remember everything I've tried so far...
I got my new memory in the mail first, upgraded to 4 gigs and everything works fine with that..
Next came my new Seagate Momentus 750 gb 7200 rpm SATA 3gb/s 16Mb Internal Hard Drive.
Using this guide: http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/17/make-bootable-os-x-10-8-mountain-lion-usb-install -drive/ (and cross checking other guides) I ended up creating a bootable external drive using my 160gb External Firewire drive for my clean install to my new hard drive. So far so good.
I then shut down the computer, removed the old internal hard drive, installed the new, restarted the computer holding option key and booted up using the External Hard Drive, and the install software started fine. Note: I have attempted to re-erase the drive so many times without luck that I cant remember if I actually successfully erased the drive originally to begin with the installation, but either way I started the OSX reinstall and it got almost all the way finished before it gave me the error message:
"Install failed. Mac OS X Lion couldn’t be installed, because the disk (volume name) is damaged and can’t be repaired. Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again."
restarting of course did nothing, it repeatedly gave me error messages and made me quit installation...
Disk Utility isnt getting me anywhere, im either getting errors like:
"POSIX reports: the operation couldnt be completed. device no configured"
it wont allow me to erase the drive or partition the drive
"Disk Erase failed with the error: File System Formatter Failed"
and everytime the drive fails to erase or partition, it disappears from the list of drives on the left of the disk utility screen and i have to restart the computer for it to reappear for a second try. Typically the volume under the drive is greyed out and says that it is unmounted.
Ive zapped the PRAM.... and Ive done other things that I cant quite remember right now because my brain is boiling from reading too many **** threads on multiple devices....
    halp.
    halp me plase.

    So funny story...
While writing this discussion I had to come to the computer and try to erase the drive so I could see the error code for reference. The erase didnt work as usual but I wrote the error code down here.
I also could not remember the error code for partitioning the drive so I attempted that as well so I could write down the code, and this time it magically partitioned successfully! The only thing I did differently was that I didn't rename the partition because i figured it wouldn't matter anyway. Since the partition was successful, I attempted the Reinstall of ML and it magically worked!!
I dont know what the **** happened but ive been attempting this install every night for like 3 hours since Monday and this is the first time it went through... for no apparent reason?
    Ghosts? Magic? Full Moon?
    we may never know...
    Thanks anyways guys!

  • "Invalid Drive X:\" install errors

Disclaimer: Apple does not necessarily endorse any suggestions, solutions, or third-party software products that may be mentioned in the topic below. Apple encourages you to first seek a solution at Apple Support. The following links are provided as is, with no guarantee of the effectiveness or reliability of the information. Apple does not guarantee that these links will be maintained or functional at any given time. Use the information below at your own discretion.
While upgrading or uninstalling a Windows software package (such as iTunes for Windows or QuickTime for Windows), you may receive the following error message:
    Invalid Drive X:\
... where the red X:\ could be any drive letter (F, H, J, or so on.) Usually you won't actually have a drive with that particular drive letter on your system.
Typically, this is caused by a problem with an installer database entry for a component for the software package. The installer database believes that the component is on the X:\ drive. When your Windows Installer goes to remove that component from the X:\ drive while uninstalling the existing version of the software and doesn't find any drive there at all it gets horribly confused and you get the "Invalid Drive" message.
If that is what is afoot with your "Invalid Drive X:\" message, here are a couple of possible resolutions for the problem. If at all possible, attempt resolution 1 prior to trying resolution 2.
    1. Temporarily add an X:\
    drive to your system.
    2. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to clear the installation database for the software you're getting the Invalid Drive X:\ message with.
    1. Temporarily add an X:\
    drive to your system.
So long as you actually have an X:\ drive on your system, your Windows Installer will typically remain relatively calm during the uninstall of the existing software (even if it can't find the component it was looking for on the drive in question). So one way of getting past an "Invalid drive X:\" message is to temporarily add an X:\ drive to your system.
An easy way to create the missing drive X: (thanks to turingtest2)
Open a Windows Command prompt, e.g. Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press OK.
    Type in SUBST X: C:\<enter>
This will map X: to C: until the machine is restarted or you enter SUBST X: /D at the command prompt. Now you can try uninstalling or upgrading the software again. (If upgrading the software, install the software in the default location, not on the X:\ drive.)
Otherwise, you will need an external hard drive, a thumb drive, an iPod in manual mode, or any other storage device that appears as a hard drive in "My Computer" (on Windows XP) or "Computer" (on Windows Vista or Windows 7).
Connect the drive to your computer. (If you are using an iPod, and iTunes for Windows launches, quit iTunes.) Open My Computer (on Windows XP) or Computer (on Windows Vista or Windows 7). Check to see what drive letter has been assigned to the drive.
If the drive letter for the drive you added matches the drive letter being given in the "Invalid Drive X:\" message, try uninstalling or upgrading the software again. (If upgrading the software, install the software in the default location, not on the X:\ drive.)
If the drive letter for the drive you added does not match the drive letter being given in the "Invalid Drive X:\" message, try using Disk Management to change the drive letter of the drive you added so that it does match the drive letter being given in the "Invalid Drive X:\" message.
    (1) In your Start menu, right-click My Computer (on XP) or Computer (on Vista or 7), and select Manage.
    (2) In Computer Management, click Disk Management.
    (3) Right-click the drive you attached to your computer and select Change Drive Letters and Paths ...
    (4) Click Change ...
    (5) In the drop-down menu, select the letter that appears in your "Invalid Drive X:\" error message.
    (6) Click OK.
    (7) In the dialog box that comes up, click Yes.
    (8) Close Computer Management.
    (9) Try uninstalling or upgrading the software again. (If upgrading the software, install the software in the default location, not on the X:\ drive.)
    2. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to clear the installation database for the software you're getting the Invalid Drive X:\ message with.
If it isn't feasible to add a drive to your system, you can also get past an "Invalid Drive X:\" error message by using the Windows Installer CleanUp utility.
    (1) Click here first, and read the important information about the utility.
    (2) Click the Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now link on that page to download a file titled msicuu2.exe.
    (3) Open the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install it.
    (4) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (5) Select the software you're getting the "Invalid Drive X:\" message for from the list and click Remove.
    (6) Click OK in the confirmation dialog that appears.
    (7) If you have multiple entries for the software you're getting the "Invalid Drive X:\" message for, repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other entries for the software.
    (8) Click Exit.
    (9) Restart the computer.
If you were getting the "Invalid Drive X:\" message when trying to upgrade software, now try reinstalling the latest version of the software.
If you were getting the "Invalid Drive X:\" message when just trying to uninstall software, program files for the software in question will remain on the PC after it has been removed by the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. If you want to remove leftover program files, check in at the appropriate forum at Apple Discussions and ask which files can be safely removed.

    Hi turingtest2 & b noir,
Sorry about the delay in getting this out. Has this been tested then? Is there even a good way to test it when the user doesn't have admin privileges?
How would you like it integrated into the tip? How does this look?
    1. Temporarily add an X:\ drive to your system.
So long as you actually have an X:\ drive on your system, your Windows Installer will typically remain relatively calm during the uninstall of the existing software (even if it can't find the component it was looking for on the drive in question). • 2012R2 Deployment with WDS yields Driver could not be installed error

    Hi
I'm using WDS installed on a 2008R2 SP1 server.  My boot image is from Windows 2012.  When I deploy a Windows 2012
R2 image I recive an error dialog during setup that states "Windows installation cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed."  In checking the setupact.log file it appears as though setup can't find pkgmgr.exe.
If I use the boot image from 2012 R2 then it works fine.  I want to continue using my existing boot image from 2012.  Any thoughts on why this is failing?

    Hi,
The WinPE version is 4.0 in using boot image on Windows Server 2012, which does not support deploy Windows 8.1/2012 R2.
You should use WinPE 5.0 (from Windows Server 2012 R2) as you just tested.

    Hi
Try to delete all content (format by clean install), then you can install Mavericks, however I think its better to add mavericks into External fladh drive (USB)
    to do clean install"
the language in the screenshot is Swedish which is same in English "Radera= delete), make sure you do back up first for you photos, music, documents,,,,,etc.

  • 32bit DIFx Driver Installer Error when Installing 9.0.2

Never had a previous problem with iTunes and when I went to use it this morning, it crashes everytime. Uninstalled completely, reinstalled 9.0.2 and now I get an error "32bit DIFx Driver Installer" and iTunes "finishs" installing and crashes after opening again. Have tried unsuccessfully to figure out a fix for this. All my children got iPod Touches for Christmas and I got a brand new iPod nano and none of us can use them now. Please help!

Hey guys! So, I experienced the same issues with the newest iTunes update. I updated several days ago, but I used iTunes for the first time since the update today. iTunes would load but immediately display a message that it needed to close. After several attempts to open iTunes, I reinstalled QuickTime as suggested by another website. Also suggested was trying to repair QuickTime and iTunes. When that didn't work, I removed both QuickTime and iTunes and did a clean reinstall from new downloads. When I did this, I got the 32bit DIFx Driver Installer error. It "finished" the install, but it still closed immediately upon opening. I ran Malware-Bytes and Hijack This to check for spyware/adware/mal-ware a few days ago so I was fairly certain my system was clean...but after two hours of trying to figure out this problem, I decided to go ahead and check for virus or malware.
Indeed, I found six files (mostly located in the System Volume Information folder). After having Avast remove these files...iTunes successfully installed without the DIFx error! So much for being "sure" my system was clean. The files found were all related to the Win32:Malware-gen virus.
So I suggest you check your system for malware and virus infection. I did my scan in safe mode and did the most in-depth search that Avast will perform. I highly suggest doing a full search with UPDATED virus program even if you think your computer is okay.
I have had no issues with iTunes after cleaning my computer!

  • I have downloaded OS X Yosemite using recovery from boot but while installing error occuring showing unable to extract essential.pkg so can't install. problem is i have already formatted my drive and dont have any os right now. please help

i have downloaded OS X Yosemite using recovery from boot but while installing error occuring showing unable to extract essential.pkg so can't install. problem is i have already formatted my drive and dont have any os right now. only the downloaded new os x yosemite in the os x base system. please help

Please try again after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
    Step 1
    Reset your computer’s PRAM.
    Step 2
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine.
    Step 3
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. One backup is not enough to be safe. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with Disk Utility. Preferably both.
Erase and install OS X. This operation will destroy all data on the startup volume, so you had be better be sure of the backups.
    Step 4
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider to have the machine tested.

u401 touch windows 8  audio driver unable to 0wau05w8.exe install error could not find device for this driver
    kindly advise

    hi karthi2lenovo,
    Welcome to the Forums.
If the conexant audio drivers from the lenovo website doesn't detect the device, can you try to:
    1. Open Device Manager (press Winkey+R > type devmgmt.msc)
    2. On the device manager, open Sound, video, and game controllers and Other Devices then check the status (if there's a yellow exclamation mark, error codes, etc.)
    3. As an alternative, try this conexant driver from station-drivers:
    Conexant High Definition Smart Audio
    Version 8.64.59.52 (Win8)
    Let me know your findings,

  • Device Driver Update...General Install error

I have the Pantech UML290.  I have intalled and uninstalled SEVERAL times the software. When I run the .exe it tells me its installing the driver; however, it stops and I get a message of GENERAL INSTALL ERROR.  Once I hit ok, it will finish installing VZ Access.  I cannot use my device.  I have tried inserting it into all 3 ports on my laptop and no luck.
I am installing 7.9.1.0 (2807b) for Windows 7 32/64 bit.  When I connect my device it tells me that it cannot locate my driver.  I even go to device manager, click on the yellow icon and select to update driver however the driver can never be found.
    Windows 7 PC
    64 bit
    Lenovo X230
Very frustrated.  I work in IT and I have NEVER had problems installing anything until NOW.  I have searched the internet for hours to see if the driver exists somewhere and I find nothing except links back to the link I have already used.

Sidenote--Itunes compatibility is my curent version of OS.  I have an IPAD 3 that wont sync because of old verison of itunes
