Driver issue nano 5th gen win 7

I bought a used nano 5th gen 8gb today and went to connect it to my laptop and got nothing on itunes. It comes up in the control panel under devices but has the excalamation point and says needs troubleshooting. I troubleshoot and it says the nano is missing drivers and cant instal them. So far ive re installed itunes and tried rebooting the computer. Ive also tried resetting the nano itself.

Try one or more of the following:
Restart your computer
Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes
Reset iPod (will not delete everything)
Check in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista & 7) and see if it shows
Restore iPod (will delete everything)
Make sure iTunes and iOS firmware is up to date

iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
Hope this helps.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen memory issues?

Hello. My iPod Nano 5th gen is great, and I've been able to use it for 2 years now, and it serves me well. Perfect condition since the day I got it. However, there are some memory issues...
First off, I have only two recorded videos totaling 1 minute and 29 seconds, so it shouldn't take up much memory at all. And I don't have any other videos on my iPod either.
Well, when I go to "About" under "Settings", then it always says that there are only 902 MB left, and it's an 8 GB. What's weirder is that it says that 6.1 GB are being used my audio, and I only have 712 songs. When I select all of the songs that are on my iPod on my PC, then it tells me that it totals to only 3.53 GB. Kinda weird, and I really need this extra space now.
Secondly, I should tell you that I don't use iTunes to syncronize my iPod. I use a third-party program called CopyTrans Manager because it's simpler, easier to navigate, and faster in my opinion. Idk what it is, but it's bothering me. Hopefully some of you can tell me where I can go to eliminate these issues and finally get my iPod back to better use and full memory.
Help me please. I don't know where to go next...
    Thankee.

Contact the manufacturer.  Check with them to determine if the issue is with them.

  • I have a pc running vista and the hard drive crashed how can i transfer my songs from Ipod nano 5th gen to my new hard drive and into itunes

I have a pc running vista and the hard drive crashed how can i transfer my songs from Ipod nano 5th gen to my new hard drive and into itunes

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.
For all other media you'll have to use 3rd party software, examples are mentioned in this thread:

Can you play the song in iTunes?
If you can't the song file is probably corrupt and needs to be replaced.

  • Nano 5th gen mounts as removable disk drive

I have installed a Nano 5th gen on 3 different PC's 2 xp pro, 1 win7 pro...all mount the Nano as a removable disk drive... I have reintalled it started and stoped services ( IPOD & Mobile)... I at my wits end.

That's normal if you have the Enable disk Use option selected or your iPod set up for manual management.

OK my ipod is a Nano 5th Gen and the Mrs is 2nd gen, as soon as i plug her ipod into my win 7 pc it comes up fine in both explorer and itunes so my system is working fine i guess.
However when ever i plug my in nothing happen, not showing up in itunes or windows explorer or right clicking on my computer and selecting "Manage" right clicking "Disk Management" or "Device Manager" there is NO mention of Apple device, tried resetting it by turning lock on then off then menu/centre button, which did reset the ipod but still not showing up in either windows or ituens.
Just wondering what i'm missing her, I do have access to the mrs laptop with ituens on but of course it has her music on, **** while i was typing i got hers out plugged my ipod into her laptop and again nothing in itunes or explorer so i'm 99.9% the issue is with my Nano.

  • Ipod nano 5th gen not recognized by itunes

Having same issue as other post except that I'm on XP home instead of a Mac. Windows recognizes the Ipod but Itunes does not. I've tried a number of the tips I've read about in the support section, but no luck. 2nd Gen Nano and Shuffle work fine and are recognized by Itunes. I was able to charge the 5th gen Nano but it was never setup since it was not recognized.

Sorry about posting in Ipod discussion instead of Nano 5th gen discussion. I was probably half awake.
I spent a lot time messing around with my computer with no luck. Finally contacted an Apple expert and though the rep was not able to solve the issue with me, he pointed me in the right direction. My fix was actually quite simple:
I downloaded Itunes onto my wife's laptop and plugged in the Nano. The setup worked and Itunes recognized it. I was able to update the latest software for the device. I moved some music files over with the Homeshare feature just in case I would not be able to use my PC. Luckily when I plugged the Nano back into my PC, Itunes recognized it.
It was either the initial device setup or the update that I needed to resolve the issue on my PC. So try it on another computer if you similar issues before you waste a lot of time and effort.

  • My iPod Nano 5th Gene Play button is not working

My iPod Nano 5th gene's play button stopped working recently, meaning I can't pause my music and I have to use the "sleep" option to turn it off! I've had it for nearly 3 years, so the warrant is up, and I live no where near an Apple store.

Is none of the usual 5 R's of troubleshooting resolve the issue, you can be certain that it's hardware related.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano5gen/
So whether or not you live near an Apple store, you still need to take or send your iPod in for service to have an out of warranty exchange done for the prices listed on this page.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You could also do some research on third party services that will actually repair the damaged component for a little less than what you would pay if you went the Apple route.  A Google search for "iPod Nano repair service" should give you a number of results to work with.

  • Ipod nano 5th gen & stock car radio playback

I bought my wife an ipod nano 5th gen and now that she takes it everywhere she wants to be able to play it thru our autos radio/cass/cd player. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this without buying another radio or having to take this one out?

See if you can still find an 1/8" inch to cassette adapter, I haven't seen any at Best Buy, or anywhere, in a while now though..
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • I upgraded to itunes 10.6 and I can't manually sunc to my ipod nano 5th gen anymore. I have re-installed itunes, restored my ipod and tried it dozens of times

I upgraded to itunes 10.6 and with that "upgrade" I can't manually sunc to my ipod nano 5th gen anymore. I have re-installed itunes, restored my ipod, tried syncing under another users account and everything else I can think of. It syncs ok upon initial start-up but then when I tryp to select podcasts or music to sync to it, itunes crashes. Now that I restored my ipod, I can't even get my old podcasts much less add new ones.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Error restoring iPad Nano 5th gen to iTunes 12.0.1

I have been having issues with iTunes 12.0.1 not recognizing my iPod Nano (5th-gen) at all.
I put the iPod nano into disk mode and iTunes can now see the iPod nano connected. However, when I try to restore the iPod nano, I now get an error message, "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1430)".
I followed all the steps here: iPod: Can't restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439 - Apple Support  and am still getting the same error message.
Please help as my iPod nano is now bricked.
My system is on a 2012 retina MBP running OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite. None of the Windows solutions apply.

    Hello jaybearden,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are not able to restore the iOS device since you get an error 9. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • My ipod nano 5th gen has blank screen

Hi, my ipod nano 5th gen has a blank screen, will not switch on, and not recognised by computer. Have tried holding menu and central button but still dead. Any suggestions please.

    Hello Emilyyandrews,
    To fix try this:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano5gen/
This has the best chance of fixing your issue if its not hardware related. If it does not fix it then you may want to consider setting the ipod up for service:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Or you can call Apple and have them set it up for you. Have your serial number ready.

  • Help me sync my ipod nano 5th gen

My new i tunes purchases will not sync to my i pod nano (5th Gen).  I did not have this problem unitl I replaced my laptop.  I am thinking it must be some sort of setting on my laptop.  My Ipod has plenty of space, its about 14 songs...  please help!  If someone can call me and walk me through it, that would be awesome!!

    Hey there TXann,
It soudns like you have purchases that will not sync over to the iPod Nano 5th gen no matter what you do. I want to recommend running through the iPod 5rs to help troubleshoot the issue here:
iPod nano (5th generation) Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano5gen/
I suggest trying the sync after each step so as to minimize the amount of troubleshooting you need to do. Here is step one to get you started:
    Reset
    To reset your iPod:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Sterling
