Vendors (not just HP) have been working and testing Windows 10 and with Microsoft to work out what THEY have to do when Windows 10 comes out to protect consumers. Windows 10 can't simply kill all existing hardware, they have to have solutions and I believe machines which are less than 3 years old will have higher priority.

I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but
Windows 8 will find the best available driver for the installed notebook installed graphics solutions during installation.
The only available drivers for your notebook currently provided are for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Your notebook has no support for Windows 7, so do not expect to find new graphics drivers for Windows 8 at the HP web suport portal for your notebook.

HP ENVY TS 15 Notebook PC: Problems installing audio driver (High Definition Audio device)

Hello all,
My product is the HP ENVY TS 15 Notebook PC.
Product number: E3B65PA#AR6
OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
A few days ago, I upgraded my windows from windows 8 to windows 8.1 and found that no sound coming from the HDTV when connecting my HDMI cable however video is perfectly fine. I was completely baffled because the audio was working perfectly fine before upgrading to Windows 8.1. I have tried several solutions posted on other forums, such as installing other drivers, and uninstalling the IDT High Definition Audio Driver and then scanning for a hardware change. I have checked the HDMI cable and it is working fine with other laptop.
Device manager is showing 2 device :
High Definition audio device ( Showing yellow traingle)
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
When I am opening the properties of High Definition audio device it is showing :
This device cannot start (code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.
If anyone knows how to fix the problem, please help me

The IDT audio driver (notebook speakers) appears to be working fine.
The problem is probably with the Intel graphics driver which controls the HDMI audio.
My recommendation would be to install the latest Intel graphics driver from the link below and see if that fixes the problem.

Optical Drive is Reading CDs and DVDs & Writing CDs but not Writing and Erasing DVDs!

When reading and writing CD+R, everything works perfect. And Reading DVD also working perfect. The problem is while Writing DVD+R, DVD+RW and Erasing DVD+RW. When using burning software or the windows in-built burning, at the end it shows reading error. And While erasing also same problem. In the DVD, there are only some dark circles/lines with gap and doesn't look like normal written DVDs.
Steps tried out (but in vain)
1. Used different burners
2. Used Superblank
3. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Chipset drivers
4. Formatted the whole HDD and Reinstalled OS
Please Help! Actually where is the problem? And how to fix it?

Install the Chipset driver first, then the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver, the rest doesn't matter.
Same for the NVIDIA driver, Notebook Review is up to date or you cab go directly to NVIDIA.

If you have an upgrade disc, then you can do a clean install as long as there is a Windows OS on the drive.
I have also done a clean install form an upgrade disc to on a new drive and it still works.
Glad the MoBo's doing well ! What kills them is if you do allot of gaming, the MoBo can't take the heat. The cooling system just isn't up to the task.

GX60 with 7970m - same Enduro problem as in other notebooks with Enduro solution

I've purchased GX60 notebook few days ago. Very solid machine.
However, I did lot of reseach and trial and error using programs like MSi Afterburner, Fraps ect. and noticed that no matter witch VGA driver I use - be it the one from MSi driver page or AMD's 12.9 beta/AMD's 12.11 beta - the 7970m is working at about only 50-60% of it's horepower.
Crysis for instance uses only ~50% of 7970m, while clearly it should use 100% of it's power. Currently I am unable to play on ultra or extreme settings because the game lags too much.
Same with Skyrim, while game is playable on ultra settings, it also uses only 50-60% of the GPU.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - same here.
I fiddled with CCC settings and tried a lot of combinations - still no dice nor effect...
Am I doing something wrong? or it is truly the A-10 CPU simply holding the 7970m back? (seems absurd since this is meant to be a gaming notebook capable of running games like Crysis 2 on ultra, isn't it?)
Is MSi going to fix the Enduro problem with a new driver? is MSi aware of this problem with Enduro at all?
Any tech/software support from MSi staff would be very much appriciated.

While I'm not familiar with AMD's version of switchable graphics....I would imagine that you need to tell the driver/notebook that for this particular program, you want to use the 7970 card, and then when you run that program, it will detect it and automatically enable the 7970.
As far as the usage being so low with the 7970, I'm not sure what to say. I know that AMD's Enduro switchable graphics has always been buggy to say the least....it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't still quite work as expected.

Help! Failing Hard Drive!

Over the past six months I've posted on here occasionally when I've had troubles with my laptop. I've had a lot of troubles with the hard drive and have run tests, etc. when needed. I have also re-installed Mac OS X 10.4 twice. When I did this, my laptop noticeably appeared to run better.
So today I went to run a software update and opened disk utility first. When I did, in the top left corner, utility said my hard drive is failing and it was in red ink. I've never seen this and my laptop has been running awfully slow the past few days. So I know I now need to get an external hard drive to back up all my stuff immediately. But I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some other things to do or not to do?? Also, where would be an affordable place to buy a new hard drive?

Backup your data immediately. And by "immediately," I mean stop reading this and go get a hard drive right now. I'll wait.
As for replacement drives, I usually use Dealmac (http://dealmac.com/categories/Computer/Storage/Hard-Drives/Internal-Hard-Drives/ Notebook-Hard-Drives/59.html). I usually find some pretty good deals there.
If you have a PowerBook, your hard drive is not a customer installable part (CIP). You'll have to find the instructions to get to your hard drive, but if I remember correctly it requires taking off the keyboard (you have to pop off 2 Fkeys to get to the screws) and possibly the top case. Check ifixit.com for more info.
If your machine is under warranty, though, take it to an Apple store and have them replace it. Should be free.

My External USB CD/DVD drive not working while BOOT-UP

I am using HP Pavillion dv6000 series notebook (dv6205us) with Windows Xp 32bit...Actually I have hardware problem...
Actually my internal CD/DVD drive is not working...and I am using External USB CD/DVD drive...its work with windows platform but it cannot detected while booting process...
When I check in BIOS, it doesn't shows "USB CD/DVD Drive" in list...its shows the following options
ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive
USB Floppy
USB Diskette on Key
USB Hard Drive
Notebook Hard Drive
Network Adapter
I tried all USB options but it dosen't work. So, please help me in troubleshooting this problem.
And also 1 question:
My system also not supporting 64bit program like Red Hat Enterprises Linux 6. So can you help me find out does my system support 64bit programs. My notebook specification as follows:

HP, I need you to support your Hardware!!

Two weeks ago I bought a HP Pavilion dm3 1104tx at Harvey Norman (Sydney,Au) link to HN.
The offical Product specification DOES NOT specify it has Hybrid Graphics (do not confuse with nvidia optimus) but it does (nvidia g 105m + intel igp) (ref: see advanced details) and I NEED TO DISABLE Hybrid Graphics (I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it had hybrid graphics).

Why do I need to disable Hybrid Graphics?
Infew words: I cant install the nvidia Verde drivers (the official ones) unless I disable the integrated graphics (iGPU).
Keep hybrid graphics on implies that I wouldnt be able to use the new CUDA features nor the 3D vision that comes with the new drivers, I wouldn't get driver bug fixes, no FLASH GPU ACCELERATION no newer features and I wouldnt be able to use the nvidia GPU on linux (I know I know, HP does not support linux on this product, this is like a "side effect"), among many other things.
Also the intel igp is really bad, i get tearing all the time, has awful performance and I DIDN'T EVEN PAY TO HAVE IT (AND THEY NEVER SPECIFIED I'D GET THAT) --- I DONT WANT IT---
So i'd be happy by using only the nvidia dGPU (the g 105m one the specs).

NOW, THE LOGIC THING TO DO IS ASK HP TO FIX THIS, since I bought the computer ~2 weeks ago (I cant return it anymore), BUT tech support was, as always, NOT helpful at all (they dont know anything at all).

The command 'lspci | grep VGA' on linux outputs:

That confirms that the dm3-1104tx *has* hybrid graphics, and it is enabled.
HP nvidia drivers are obsolete (2009, keep in mind nvidia releases drivers ~2 times a month (this affects me as no bug fixes and/or new features are provided))

nvidia claims HP is responsible for the support of this card, ref: nVidia forums (means no drivers unless HP releases new drivers (its been two years since they updated their drivers!!) or updates bios to let me shut down IGP)

The insyde bios has an advanced hidden menu in which the iGPU can be turned off
HP support doesn't even know the existence of this menu. And this menu is of curse not visible by default in the setup utility.

in my hp mini 311 i can access the advanced menu by pressing "A" immediately after "F10" at start up (but it doesnt work on my dm3)

the nvidia drivers can be installed if the integrated graphics are disabled.

ive dumped the bios (InsydeH20) to a binary file and dissembled the setup utility (using marcan's python scripts on linux) and found that the advanced menu is actually there (but hidden) (but I don't know how to enable it)

2 I do not have the leaked ezH20 tool as that might be illegal.

Hi,
Please check Device Manager to see what is the brand of the existing HDD and going out to buy new HDD with same brand. HP uses Toshiba, Hitachi, may be Samsung a lot on many laptops. It should accept any brand but who knows.
Other note: Many 2.5" HDD's now are thinner than old HDD's. Please buy the one which has plastic frame to allow it to sit properly inside the HDD cage/slot. otherwise, buy the same thickness (at least 4 screws should keep it in place but to be sure is to be sure).

MSata upgrade issue GE70 OND

Hi. I've been asked to upgrade the mSata SSD from the Original 64GB to 128GB (Adata SX300).
Both the drive & notebook are new & unopened.
When I install the 128GB & turn the notebook ON I get:
"P1:ADATA SX300
Enter User password: "
It's all new. What password?
I've taken it out & disabled secure boot, but if I plug it back in it's the same!
Help, please!

Max power draw on the USB 3 port on a HP Pavilion 15-g013cl

I am told that the spec for a USB port is 900 mA.
My HD will draw 0.95 A spinning up according to the manufacturer:

Something Strange Happening?

I'm not sure if something strange is happening but:
Yesterday, my co-workers hard-drive on his new Macbook Pro (just a couple months old) started slowing way down. We ran Verify Disk from Disk Utility and it recommended a Repair. We booted from the Leopard install DVD and tried to repair it but he unfortunately didn't get it to work and had to go to the Apple Store for a replacement.
Today, almost 24 hour later, my hard drive started acting up with the same problems (only I was able to repair it with Disk Utility after booting from the install DVD).
So I did some searching on the twitterverse, and I'm finding that in the past 24 hours there have been a few more cases of people losing the hard drives.
Could it be that the recent apple update has an issue?? I just find it really odd that my machine, which has never had an issue nor shown any sign of oddity would start having an issue 24 hours after my co-worker, whose mac was brand new...
Anything to be concerned about or false alarm and extremely convenient coincidence?

It's hard to tell with hard drives--notebook hard drives have an average useful life of 3-5 years, but some fail almost immediately. I don't think a download would bother a healthy hard drive, but if the drive already had some problems, it might cause them to be more apparent.
If you want to keep tabs on the physical health of your drive, you might like SMART Utility:

You can download the demo and run it several times for free.
There is also SMART Reporter:

SMART Reporter is free and places an icon in your menu bar that is supposed to give early warning of impending hard drive failure. It actually did with the Fujitsu drive that originally shipped in my computer. I got a lot of reports of I/O errors, and when I checked with SMART Utility, the drive was failing, even though it had passed with no errors the week before when I was still under warranty.
It's also prudent to verify the disk and repair it if necessary before downloading software. Doesn't hurt to repair permissions afterwards, even though there are a lot of them that don't get repaired.
I can only say that with my WD Scorpio Black 500 GB drive, none of the recent updates have caused any issues.

HP Pavilion g6 Notebook recovery following hard drive replacement

After replacing a failed hard drive with the same Samsung/Seagate ST500LM012 that came in the notebook I now cannot recover the factory settings. I continue to get the "Bootmgr is missing" error, even after trying three different recovery oiptions through the HP Recovery Manager (Factory Reset, System Recovery and Minimized Image Recovery). I have also tried the various bootrec comands posted in the HP forums that are suposed to fix the MBR (FixMbr, FixBoot and Rebuildbcd) and it always seems to indicate that no Windows installation were found and therefore doesn't give me the option to "add installation to boot list?". I also reset the BIOS settings to original.
The closest I got to a successful installation was when I selected the "Minimized Image Recovery" option, however it had an error late in the installation and when it restarted it came up with errors that it could not find HideCMD.vbs and HideEXE.vbs in C:\system.sav\Util\TDCTWKS\.
I am using the Recovery Disk set that I made when I purchased the notebook, and it does not give me a Startup Repair option.
Am I just not following the correct procedure, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

To further diagnose this issue, I recommend following the steps in this document on Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 7). This should help to successfully recover your operating system.
If the issue continues, please follow the steps in this resource on Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive to repair the Master Boot Record.
