Driver or adaptor issue not sure

I recently installed a NetGear router, at first I could see and connect to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  After a few months it was determined that the Router was malfunctioning and the manufacture sent me a new Router.   The new Router WDNR3400.3
already had the latest firmware installed on it.  After doing my setup with the new router, I noticed I could not see the 5GHz in my wireless displace box however when I log on to the router it shows the 5Ghz working.  To confirm this I used my cellphone
and another computer which both were able to see the 5Ghz network.  I have tried the following to resolve my issue.  Reinstalled a all wireless drivers,  made sure the adapters were set to enable N routing and and combo.  I uninstalled
the NetGear software and reinstalled, and rebooted both Router and modem. All the security setting on the computer match the router and finally I reset the router to manufacture defaults.  What am i missing? I'm running windows 7.

My first thought is that your computer might be out of the range of 5 GHz, as I know, the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz is the range and bandwidth, 5 GHz has wider bandwidth while it has a smaller coverage compared to 2.4 GHz, so I sugges you take your
PC closer to the router, check if it can make any difference.
And another situation is that the network adapter doesn't support 5 GHz, check your driver for the network adapter or go to the NetGear website to find an appropriate driver, test the result again.

  • External hard drive, sharing, itunes? Not sure where to post this?

    sorry guys but i'm not sure where this belongs, but anyway. I just bought my macbook and purchased a Western Digital harddrive ( external ) anyway I have like 80gigs of pics and music and want to get it from my iPod back onto the computer. Not a problem............My problem is that I can't put it directly onto the external drive I first need to put it on the macbook then transfer it to the externak hardrive. When I do this is winds up on my mac HD and also on my external hardrive. I only want it in one place. Ok, my ultimate goal right now is to buy an iMac which I'm doing this weekend. Got rid of my PC's ( Go Apple !) LOL. I want to put all my music ,videos,pics, movies on the external hardrive and be able to share it with both my Macbook and my imac. I simply want to be able to access my everything from both pc's but get it all from the EHD. Right now it's all on my macbook and I want to free up the space, plus learn how to do it for the future. Sorry to ramble. So far I've posted a few times and someone always comes through. Everyone here is awesome, it's like another planet compared to the PC world.

    Put your iTunes folder on the eternal hard drive, and make a alias to it from your home directory on the MacBook (Cmd-L). Do the same when you get the iMac.
    I didn't quite get how the two computers are sharing the hard drive, or maybe you'll put the hard drive on the iMac and share the library. There's a lot of ways to make this work. You made a good decision.

  • Hard Drive Issue Not Sure What The Problem Is

    I am using an 
    HP Pavilion HPE h8-1360t
    I am running Windows 7 (64 bit)
    So here is the problem. Every so often ( I think it has happened three times now) as recently as two days ago everything on my monitor freezes, sometimes it even becomes a blurry mess of pixels and my PC just shuts off entirely. 
    When trying to restart I often hear the hard drive clicking and a few times I have seen the PXE-MOF error saying it can't read the disk or that there is no disk to read from. Thankfully everything is backed up regularly. The real funny thing comes later.
    The next morning I turn on the PC so I can write down the error message in full. No clicking, Windows starts normally and none of my files or data is missing. 
    I have recently installed Crystal Disk Info to get a better idea of what might be wrong, but other than the bad sector reallocation everything shows up as good. The bad sector count is realtively low (85) and the number isn't jumping or spiking at all after several restarts. It's almost as if the original error never ahhapend. 
    Again, this would be the third time this has happened. Anyone have an idea as to why?

    You’re having a random problem with your HDD.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
    Remove the power cable and the battery.
    Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
    This should reset the hardware in the computer.
    As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
    Run the startup test.
    This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
    It could be that the HDD is failing and that it is just writing around the bad sectors.

  • Mac pro 2.66, 2 new seagate drives raid 0, newbie, not sure if a problem...

    I'm a relative newbie--just got a mac pro 2.66 and added two additional seagate sata 7200.10 500 gig drives that I striped together using disk utility and set at 0. My intention? to do video and animation editing and use the additional satas to read/write my data on, as I create it (I'm planning on doing routine backups to DVD's)
    My potential problem: Just to test it, I put a couple of word docs that I'm updating/writing on it. If I don't type for a while (say 15 minutes), when I do type and save, it takes a a while (maybe 30 seconds and yes, get a rolling ball) to save. After that, saving is instant. Is there a sleep issue with this? There are no systems on the striped satas. I'm using 10.47, btw.
    Anybody know why? are my disks just bad? aside from the initial save problems, they're fine.

    I would hope it is not a firmware issue with Seagate. There have been some, and make sure your drives are set to NEVER spin-down in Energy control panel (system preferences).
    That is 1TB almost of storage - to backup - and as one huge volume. It is possible to first partition the drives, then stripe like to like partitions into RAID also (if you wanted to be able to erase a volume, or keep some files separate, not everyone does).
    It can also help to zero a drive first, or make sure that the drive is suitable for RAID (seems most but not all are). There have been reports here, or on Barefeats, as well as on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com about drive issues. OWC is now updating the firmware on some Seagate model drives.

  • Bad Sound Issues, not Sure what to do here..

    It seems my mac is having some terrible sound output problems. Since this my first home mac, it's the first I have to troubleshoot on my own and I'm not quite sure what the problem is. But here's what it's doing:
    Using iTunes, the music playback is crap. It sounds very, very full of static and is unbearable to listen to. Though uf I put in a dvd or even watch something from itunes, or a movie through itunes, the sound is great. I've got two little Bose companion speakers, I small monster cable for the rca's and the 1/8" into the headphone jack. The speakers themselves sound perfectly clear when the "audio of my mac's choice" is something which plays back well. This issue I have brought up on the forums before. But it's went a little further, and I thought someone could figure out the problem.
    I installed World of Warcraft - a game I like to play for about 2 hours a week - and when the title screen popped up it looked beautiful in 24" i-Mac glory. The sound was loud and the music was crystal clear - then the sound effect of some fire kicked in - and that sound effect was intolerable to the ears. Sounded like bad short-wave radio on it's wost night. Very crackly, full of static. When I get in game, the background music is beautiful, but all spell effects / voice / or action sound is coming out as terrible. So I thought, "Okay, lets unplug the speakers and use the macs internal speakers." Did that and had the same effect, only sounded worse on the internals. All sound effects and EQ's sturned off in itunes.
    Sorry for the long interlude, but that's whats going on I can't make heads or tails of why 'some' audio is fine and 'some' is not.
    I'm also getting a "phazed sound" as posted by another user on here. Tends to fade left to right, not keep the audio centered, weirds me out, and again makes this beautiful piece of machinery sound like a gameboy. The first one.
    Is this a warranty issue?
    Bad sound card?
    Is there a setting I'm missing here?
    If it were a bad card, do I send it to Apple or take it to the Apple Store in Best Buy where I purchased the iMac, to the "I-have-no-idea-what-a-mac-is-or-how-it-works -- here, buy a monster cable for $40 and your problems are solved." guy?
    Should I buy something that has digital in sound, fearing having the same results since It's not the speakers? (Probably not, hmm )
    Any and all help much appreciated. It's driving me nuts here, music and sound is my life and1/2 the reason this machine was purchased.

  • Wireless issue, not sure what to do...

    Hi all,
    Seen lots of notes on here about wireless problems and seen many answers ranging from "roll back to 1.5.1" to "buy a new router", etc. All go advice I'm sure, but I would like to hear what you folks think of my issue and if there is an answer that I missed that could help me.
    The problem is with my 17in Powerbook G4. It's a little over 3 years old (read:just out of Applecare), and before upgrading to Leopard the wireless worked beautifully with my linksys router at home, the wireless at work, at school and on the road.
    However... when I upgraded to Leopard I noticed it seemed... flakey. When I updated to 5.2 it has become almost unbearably bad. It connects about 90% of the time to my home network with no problem, my school network often takes several computer restarts before it will even SEE the network, let alone join it which can be a 20 minute process of clicking the network, watching it do nothing, repeating for a while until it eventually connects.
    Work is very similar to school.
    So what I am pondering is, is this a Leopard problem? Is it a wireless card problem? Something I don't even know about?
    The solutions I see are:
    1) Roll back, possibly to Tiger? BTMM doesn't work (well it did until 5.2, now it NEVER works on ANY network) and that was the main reason I bought Leopard).
    2) Get a new wireless card? Would this cost me an arm and a leg without Applecare?
    3) Something I don't know?
    Any help would be very much appreciated, I am at my wits end, my work productivity and school productivity are down and I find that I swear much more often than I used to, and as a student in Seminary it's frowned on to say the least;) Plus it looks bad to all the windows people who connect with ease and my poor Mac is struggling to even see that network!
    Anyway, thanks in advance, I am going to post this in the powerbook forums in case it's a powerbook issue instead of a Leopard issue, but I tend to think it is the latter.

    I don't think its a hardware issue. It seems to be some network settings getting corrupted.
    Well, lets try these steps and see how it works.
    Create New Location:

    Zap the PRAM:
    Shut down the computer.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Quicktime issue/file issue/not sure what is wrong! Help Please!

    Hopefully you can answer my question. My friend was making a slideshow on idvd, but is unable to burn a disk, and has a mini-dvi out on her computer which she does not have an adaptor for. We have a presentation tomorrow so I was trying to put the file on my computer to either burn to a disk. We have tried transferring the file via shared folders, but when we go to open it in imovie it says that it is a "write protected file". We have read and write enable for both shared folders. When we tried transferring it with a flash drive that didn't work either and we got the same error. Quicktime also fails to open it. Right now I'm on my last guess with making a disk image through idvd and attempting to open that on my computer!
    Do you have any suggestions or ideas? I'm running out of ideas and really need this to work by tomorrow night! Any ideas/help/suggestions would be so greatly appreciated!

    nvm, put it in itunes and converted it to ipod/iphone format and was able to get it to work. Wow, that was so much easier then what I expected!

  • Lenovo 120GB portable hard drive won't disconnect (not sure where to put this!)

    I didn't see any specific forums/areas for portable hard drives, so I thought I'd try here-- if it's in the wrong place, please let me know!
    I got a 120gb lenovo portable hard drive over the holidays, and just today tried plugging it in; the only thing I did was check how much space it had free on it (111gb, but I did find out why that is!), but now I can't remove it. That is, when I try to use the 'safely remove hardware' thing, I get a message saying that the device is still being used by a program. However... there shouldn't be any program using it! I was told that normally it's not a problem to just straight-up unplug the usb cords from the computer, but I'd rather not have to do that every single time I use the portable hard drive.

    In order that members can help you trouble shoot this you may want to post some more details. Most importantly which OS you are running.
    Did you have something like Windows Media Player running when you tried to disconnect the drive? I've experienced the same with WMP running; it links to the drive looking for files it can play / add to it's playlists and therefore Windows thinks it is still in use.

  • Battery Issues - Not sure what to do...

    My most precious mini is well over 2 years old. It only holds about 1 hours worth of battery life before I need to recharge it. I mean it completely dies. I don't know if it's worth sending and having the battery replaced or whatever it is they do (would updating my mini software help this issue?) or would it be worth my while to get a nano? I was told at the Apple store that the nano will run on the most current itunes software I have that runs my mini. Please help!!! Many Thanks!

    Depends on how much you like your mini as to whether you want to change it for a nano.
    There are cheaper battery alternatives than Apple, so you could get your mini up and running again for a lot less money than buying a new iPod.
    Google "iPod batteries" for some 3rd party battery sites.

  • When I connect my iPAD to my PC it no longer automatically opens the IPAD device window to allow me to sync. It works ok for my iPOD so not sure what the problem is?.

    When I connect my iPAD to my PC it no longer opens it at  as device in itunes.
    This has worked in the past.
    I don't have problems with my old iPOD. That is recognised and syncs ok.
    Also, the PC recognises the iPAD as a drive  so I'm not sure why it doesn't open it in itunes... Very frustrating.

    The problem now is that I get the message that I cannot backup my iPad as my PC is not authorised, even though when I click to authorize it says my PC is already authorized.

    I work for a corporate company and my Hard drive crashed recently. Not sure which package I used, they recommended that I ask on here if someone can retrieve my serial number.

    Cloud programs do not use serial numbers... what program did you have?
    Does your serial number show on your account page?

  • Not sure of settings to import CD

    Hi, I have not imported a CD in a long while. Since then, I have upgraded to SnowLeopard, and have had to get a new hard drive, so I am not sure if the settings which I now have are the right ones:
    Import using:AAC Encoder, and there is a drop with other options, AIFF Encoder, Apple Lossless Encoder, MP3, and WAV. Encoder. Underneath that it says:
    Settings: iTunes plus, then a little box with :Details, under that a box to check which is not checked "Use error correction when reading Audio CD's.
    If there is more information needed, I will send it. Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

    Thank you so much for your reply. I have a self help CD which I'd like to import to iTunes, and then put it on my iPod. I have an iPod nano, one of the older ones, it's in very good condition. I have purchased music from iTunes. ITunes was able to restore the purchased music to my library after I got the new hard drive. I have created several playlists, and I listen to music from iTunes on my computer, I have Bose speakers, and also from my iPod. I have burned some discs, but not since I have the new hard drive. I also have in my applications Flip4Mac, and WMV player, up to date. I hope this information helps

        Oh boy! Acting kind of weird seems to be an understatement, aquaequus!
    What type of troubleshooting were we able to do with you? I want to make sure that we can get some sort of resolution for this problem.
    It is quite possible the battery door may get your phone in working order again. I'm not sure if the store has it in stock, but it is available in our warehouse for $14.99 which can be ordered via customer service.

  • Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

    Ok. This was my first attempt at building my budget gaming computer and I purchased a almost complete "Combo Deal" through Newegg and some other things that I needed for it. Now, I put it together now, three times, and the problem I'm having is that the Monitor keeps saying "no signal". Everything is running, fans, lights, etc. Apparently the motherboards BIOS may not be up to date enoughwhich the AMD FX is not recongnized so I purchased an older CPU to update it, still same problem so I can't update the BIOS...Not sure what else to say. Here are the specs:

    Also would Best Buy customer service or Geek Squad in store be able to help with this issue if I was able to bring it in? I'm limited on way to diagnose this process on my own...I've already plugged in the Monitor via VGA to the Graphics Card and to the Motherboard w/ and w/o the Graphics Card still plugged in.

    I was checking the specs and there shouldn't be an issue with it not showing a boot signal. Even with outdated bios the fx4100 should still post boot. It sounds like there is something not hooked up. Do you have the 4 pin connector plugged in at the top left of the cpu and obviously the 20-24pin connector is working fine because everything turns on. Ummmmmmm, I have dealt with many issues like this with friends and it always ended up being something up with the graphics card. It could be simply something wrong with the 6pin connectors going to the graphics card. I had a faulty 6pin connector once that did the same thing and it wouldn't give enough power to fully boot my old gtx260. Are you using the 6pin connectors that came with the graphics card or ones that are on your power supply? A buddy of mine had a short in one of his 6pin cords; I literally just wiggled the cords a few times and bam it worked. I'd also try another graphics card if you have one.
    Just trying to help one step at a time. It just feels like a graphics card issue since it won't post anything.
