We do need the actual DMP file as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here
If you have any questions about the procedure please ask
If you are using Blue screen view, who crashed, or a similar application, don't. They are wrong at least as often as they are correct

Hey Guys,
I've been trying to fix this problem for a while now, without any solution. I have a HP ENVY 15-j035eo Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
which I install Windows 8.1 pro on. I start by getting all the drivers that are missing in Device Manager and updates.
Now I want to enable virtualization with Hyper -V client (All requirements are met for that). Then the computer crashes after restart with a driver power state failure. Exactly the same occurs when I install Visual Studio after restart. Here is some info from
the dump file from blue screen viewer that i get for the problem.

Really appreciate all the help I can get.Hi,
ntoskrnl.exe is known as a kernal image for windows operating system, but hard to find the actual acuse basically according to this error message you provided in the original post, maybe a 3 rd party program or a missing file, or corrupted driver.
Please uplaod the dump file after running Driver Verifier, you can find detailed instruction in the following link (provided by Patrick Barker)

Yoga 8.1 Driver Power State Failure
So this is my second attempt at 8.1 that works as well as 8. Very aggravating but that's old news here. All i can say is that I'd be having a fit except for the one button image of 8 with all my stuff that I just restored.
What causes the suddon Driver Power State Failure message and either freeze or crash? I could have sworn I downloaded all the correct 8.1 drivers and followed all the other suggestions here on this forum.
And, Lenovo, what about providing an 8.1 image for all your loyal cutomers that bought the first generation Yoga. Aren't you embarrased that we are all going thru this?Hi,
How is the current situation?
If the issue persists, please upload the dump file as below methods:
To collect logs, we have two methods in forum:
1.If you concern personal information or company related information in logs, we recommend to send log files to our forum email account:

Driver Power State Failure (BSOD) on Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
How do I solve this? I've attached links to 3 .dmp files as is usually required to spot trends (in fact 3 BSOD's occurred in one day, and I've attached those 3 .dmp files). I've gone through other forums and discussions on this forum, and while others
had discernible traits for the BSOD, namely things like occurrences after the PC waking up from sleep, etc. For me it occurs quite randomly, during games, browsing the net, etc. and more importantly it occurs very frequently, to the point of at least 1 BSOD
a day. My GPU drivers are up to date and I don't think it's because of that. Hope you guys can help me out...

Thanks in advance. :)KD
These were related to your nvidia driver. There is a known issue with the current driver (yours) on some systems. As a work around I would install an older driver (at least 6 months older) until a less buggy driver is released.

i have recently encountered power state failure issues upon sleeping/restarting or even shutting down
here are the 7 of recent minidumps
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=D1E16401149EF1CC!2728&authkey=!AJaes1A5bcSpy7w&ithint=file%2crar
as you can see it happens very often and i can't see any obvious reason for it
thanks in advanceAR
Driver verified and Related to epfwwfp.sys ESET Personal Firewall driver. Fairly uncommon that ESET crashes. I would either remove it and re-install the newest version available, or use something else.

I have taken the following steps based on research without success:
Restarted the box - try again
Complete shutdown - try again
verified with my VMWare admins that there is no 'Secure Boot' or similar option set on the VM
Shutdown wuauserv, renamed SoftwareDistribution, started the service back up, reattempt
installed, but did not enable/configure, BitLocker Drive Encryption feature
sfc /scannow - no errors found
dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth and /scanhealth - neither found any issues
verified that the 'System Reserved Partition' is the correct size (350MB) and has free space (115MB)
deactivated the OS license, reactivated the OS license - no change
Pointed to the MS Windows Update servers instead of local WSUS
I have a little flexibility in how I repair this box. Given that DC functionality is unaffected and that this specific DC is not used heavily I want to try to repair it rather than wipe it out and rebuild it. I have not yet attempted to run updates on our
other, non-Read-Only DCs. If I run in to the same problem on them, I won't have as much leeway so I want to try to come up with a repair process if needed. I also have some concern regarding my ability to demote it from it's DC role given its current state.
There is nothing to indicate that that would also be a problem, but I would prefer to get it in working order before attempting a demotion.
Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hard Drive detects imminent failure
Please can anyone help. i have a compaq 6735s lap top which is about months ols. Today when i switch on I have a black screen with the following message: 1720-SMART hard drive detects imminent failure.
What should i do nowHi,
How many months?
The error message might or might not be true. It is worth your time to go ahead and back up all of your data to an external hard disk
Boot into Windows and go to Device manager look at the disk drive device click on the + to expand the category and post the model number (the complete alphanumeric string next to the icon) here in your thread. There is a possibility that your hard drive requires a firmware update. I will do a bit of research to see if that is indeed the issue.
There are some Maxtor drives that have had to have the update done to correct the SMART reporting feature which caused an error message virtually identical to the one you are getting.
regards,
erico.

MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2010
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
Software OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
I have an external hard drive:
2 TB Seagate Backup+Desk Media
Partitioned:
1TB - Windows NTFS
1TB - Mac (sorry I can't remember the formatting, whatever Mavricks asked me to use...)
What happened:
I was erasing 3 old backups from the Apple partition and my laptop crashed part way through emptying the trash. (it has done this many times before, where parts of the screen are frozen in square blocks displaced all over the screen. Screenshot not possible unless I use a separate camera).
When I force restarted my computer (holding down the power button) neither side of the drive was accessible. After running the Disk Utility and Verifying and Repairing the Disk Permissions and the Disk Itself (for the Windows side) I was able to access the Windows partition. However, upon attempting to do so with the Mac partition it tells me that it cannot be repaired. I have found many forums discussing SIMILAR situations but none with the same and here is why:
Up until this happening I could access ONLY the Windows partition when the drive was connected to either my Apple laptop in Bootcamp Windows 7 or my HP laptop in Vista, while my MacBook could access both sides of the drive. HOWEVER, after this crash, BOTH my Windows 7 and Vista can access both sides of the drive (so My files are still all there and accessible) but my MacBook Pro swears that the Apple partition is doomed.
Since the Apple side of my laptop is my primary workhorse I really want to figure out how to fix my drive.
So Questions:
1. Anything else I can provide to the experts out there to help me get this fixed?
2. Can I custom fix this via accessing the drive on either of the Windows systems?
3. Why would it suddenly show up in Windows when it became unaccessible to Mac?
Thanks All!UPDATE:
It has been maybe a month since this happened.
After I made this post and was checking emails, walking away from computer, and then came back my Mac partition of the External Drive has shown up on the Desktop...
So, in the ever immortal way of asking the tech to come check the issue and the issue resolving itself, perhaps I should posted on the forum sooner...
NOTE: The disk still shows up as unusable in the Disk Utility and it appears that the files are read only (cannot make a new folder on this side of the external drive)
I still consider this a volatile issue because I do not want to lose the files on this half of the partition and I have not gotten a replacement drive yet (too much data to move to my computer and then format the current drive) -
hard drive short DST failure code PGFTHS-00079L-60R303 DO i NEED TO REPLACE HARD DRIVE?
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi,
Yes, the 24 character error code for the Disk Self Test ( DST) would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
If you are is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

DP-K

I backed up my itunes folder to my external hard drive.I then replaced my hard drive in my pc & installed windows 7 64 bit on the new hard drive. I reinstalled iTunes & and logged in & all my cloud purchases apperared. All my other music on the external hard drive is my problem. When I just try to open the file it states that I don't currently have permission to access this folder. I have tried to to take possesion of it & change the permissions but it keeps saying access is denied. I tried to drag it in to iTunes but it says I do not have permission. I am pulling my hair here because I have a lot of music that I cannot get to. I am so afraid that I am going to lose it all, I need help!! Please!!!!
I found out that i can play the file with windows media but it still will not play with itunes. It has to be a itunes issue. I purchased an album off itunes & it wont even let me download either

Description of Issue:
Optical Drive is not recognised in Windows 8.1 (x64), or in UEFI System Diagnostics.
Steps to Recreate:
UEFI:
Boot PC into UEFI System Diagnositcs (F2 at POST)
Component Checks
Optical Drive
Sequential Check
Error: Not Optical Drive Installed.
Windows 8.1 (x64):
Run Device Manager
Error: No DVD/CD Drives section.
Scanning for new hardware changes nothing.
Relevent System Specifications:
Laptop: HP Pavilion 15-n023sa (Vanilla build)
Optical Drive: HP DVDRAM gu70n
Steps Already Taken to Solve:
Replaced DVD drive with one from similar spec HP Pavilion. The gn70n hotswapped perfectly in the other machine. No change on problem laptop. Conclusion: DVD Drive is working, and there are no issues with Windows 8.1 (x64).
Removed DVD Drive. Rebooted computer. Log into Windows. Shutdown. Refit DVD Drive. Boot laptop. This attempts to solve hardware glitches with PnP devices; as well as helping to fix any intermittent loose connection problems. Conclusion: No change.
Ran Troubleshooting for Hardware and Devices, via the Control Panel. Issue Found: Hardware changes might not have been detected. Exploring more options just takes you through to http://social.answers.microsoft.com/search/en-us/?query=hardware+device, this is a 404 error page. Conclusion: Windows Help and Support is severely lacking. They show no more information than just that something has been detected as being wrong.
Ran the Microsoft FixIt Optical Drive Troubleshooter and Automatic Repairer. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/5/8/F586FB7C-78E0-40EB-AF41-4C925F803CAF/CDDVDWin8.meta.dia... The troubleshooter reported that the device could not be found. It recommended removing all power cables, switching the device off and various other things that have no relevence to laptop hardware troubleshooting. It then said if the problem still persists, contact the manufacturer. Conclusion: Windows Troubleshooting cannot fix the problem.
Run Windows Update to ensure all updates and definitions have been installed. Conclusion: Windows is fully up to date.
Run a full Rootkit and heuristic Malware scan, using Sbybot S&D 2.3; as well as a signature based scan using Windows Defender. Conclusion: Laptop is clean of rootkits and malware, to the best of my knowledge.
Notes:
The DVD Drive is NOT showing up in the Device Manager, OR in This PC.
The DVD Drive is NOT being detected by the UEFI System Diagnostics.
There is NO reference to the DVD Drive in BIOS, other than as a boot option, which is generic.
The DVD Drive, itself, DOES work, and has been verified on a different machine.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Oh ok, that's fine. I was expecting to go through a first response resolution process. Once the gate keepers realise they're talking to someone who actually knows what they're talking about, it's usually pretty simple to skip through a lot of the script. Once you've got past the gate keepers once, it's usually easy to get a direct number for the actual resolution department.
Will they question why I've opened up the case to exchange a 1TB HDD for an 80GB HDD? (The only physical spare I have, atm). I know they'll understand, I'm only worried about giving them any reason to deny the warranty on such an extensive fix. -
Seagate Hard Drives not detected by the Windows 7 installer
I've spent hours on this trying every conceivable reason, so I apologize in advance for the length on this post.
I connected a Seagate 320GB 7200.10 hard drive to a P35 chipset system and attempted to install Windows 7 RTM onto it. The installer got to the part of detecting hard drives, but could not detect this drive. Native SATA mode was enabled, and AHCI was enabled.
I disabled Native SATA mode, then after that failed I also tried disabling AHCI by setting the controller to IDE mode. Still, the Windows 7 installer refused to detect the drive.
I replaced both the SATA & power cables, verified the drives are detected by the AHCI firmware and the BIOS, and I even tried different motherboard SATA ports to no effect. I took a second , identical Seagate 320GB SATA hard drive, this time pre-formatted it inside Windows 7 RC using NTFS defaults, and again (with and without AHCI and Native SATA mode) Windows 7 will not see this hard drive either!
I even downloaded the AHCI preinstall drivers and loaded these using a flash drive. When I did Windows 7 would autodetect the ICH9 driver and I would click Next. Windows 7 would suddenly see the drive, but all options to format or create a partition are grayed out. Clicking the more info button gives me this error message:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I used the AHCI preinstall drivers specific for the motherboard (Vista 64) and I also tried the AHCI preinstall drivers from Intel for Windows 7 RC 64. As of this writing Intel has not released official Windows 7 RTM Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers.
In frustration I installed a SSD (with AHCI and Native SATA mode enabled) and suddenly Windows 7 detects the SSD without needing to load any driver (as would be expected, since Vista and 7 include Intel Storage Manager drivers by default already). I installed Windows 7 RTM 64bit onto the SSD without issue.
15 minutes later I was at the Windows 7 desktop, and Windows 7 was showing the Seagate 320GB hard drive under "My Computer" as normal. I could even use the Seagate hard drive as normal as if nothing was wrong. For kicks I launched the Windows 7 installer inside Windows 7, but as you can see below it still refused to see the drive, despite the drive being shown under My Computer:
(Since I can't use thumbnails, here's the direct link: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n129/Chanur64/Box/Howpossible.jpg )
Also I should note I previously had Windows 7 Beta installed on an IDE drive in this exact system, and had no problems with it. Windows 7 RTM would allow me to install to an IDE drive and allowed me to install to an SSD, but it cannot see and cannot install onto both Seagate 320GB hard drives. These Seagates are known good drives previously part of a RAID 5 array.
If anyone knows what is going on or has some ideas I've not tried I would love to hear from you and get this figured out. Suffice to say this is not a promising start for Windows 7.

PC Power & Cooling 750w PSUI just had to solve the same issue with a Seagate Momentus Thin hard drive (
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/laptops/slim-laptop-hard-drives/)
Tried several BIOS configuration, AHCI drivers, etc and Windows 7 32bits couldn't detect the drive.
My solution was to boot with a USB pendrive with HirenCD tools (http://www.hiren.info/) and use a partition manager to erase disk contents, create and format a partition.
Windows 7 detected the hard drive for the first time and now is installing, so.. crossing fingers.
Thanks,
Diego
Diego,
Thanks for the information and the link to Hiren.info! I'm creating my bootable flash drive now. I'll report back if I get this to work.
I had this same issue on a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 "laptop" hard drive. I say "lap top" in quotes because it's actually in a desktop (HP Compaq Ultra-slim dc7800). I believe it was an upgrade, so it took me a while to figure out what I was dealing
with until I finally took out the harddrive and checked what company made it!
Thanks everyone! -
Symptom preceding my Time Capsule Power On Failure: Apple TV2 Glitches
Hope this helps someone. I spent days re-installing the system on my my Mac Mini and re-updating my Apple TV 2 firmware in an attempt to solve the problem with my AppleTV2 and Mac Mini losing connection with each other, before the Power On Failure of my Time Capsule identified the problem was elsewhere.
For a month preceding my Time Capsule Power On failure (see below), my wirelessly-attached Apple TV Gen2 would stop in mid-stream while playing a playlist from my wirelessly-attached Mac Mini. Nothing short of quitting & restarting iTunes on the Mac Mini would re-establish a connection.
But when my Time Capsule failed and I was forced to substitute an old AirportExpress b/g base station, all the problems with the AppleTV2 losing connection to the Mac Mini disappeared!
It seems that prior to my Time Capsule failing completely FAILING it was exhibiting MINOR glitches in its wireless operation. These glitches were NOT sufficient to drop the Mac Mini or AppleTV2 from the Internet, but they were apparently enough to interfere with Bonjour networking between the two devices.
BACKGROUND
My single radio, 1TB Time Capsule failed Wednesday night, pretty much textbook as per the 1100+ replies on this thread: Time Capsule Powered Off, Won't Power Back On: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2129872
My particular "Time Capsule Power On" failure symptoms:
- Time Capsule WiFi network disappeared
- Time Capsule the indicator light was OFF (rather than normal green, or even a flashing yellow)
- Power cycling Time Capsule initially would result in yellow light for 10-20 seconds then nothing
- With hand on the Time Capsule case I could feel the internal hard-drive spinning
- Within 1/2 hour, repeated power-cycling would result in the light NEVER coming on
- Serial no. as per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3351 Time Capsule: Does not power on
The local Apple store Genius bar replaced my Time Capsule with a brown box 1TB, single radio unit, but would NOT transfer my data on my old Time Capsule. When I asked for assurance that my data would be erased, they said that it was Apple policy that all returned drives are destroyed. It was accept that unwritten promise or leave with my broken Time Capsule. I was NOT happy, but life is already too short – I accepted the replacement Time Capsule.Contact a repairer in your area.. we can fix them cheaper than data recovery.. and you will get a working TC back as good as new.. in fact we can make it better than new because we can fix the fundamental flaw .. no cooling.

Optical drive Diagnostic not available in windows 8
In regard to my Hp pavillion g6 2380ea laptop running windows 8. This laptop is about 5 weeks old. I bought it new with windows 8 installed. Over the past fewweeks I have noticed a weird electronic noise together with a click coming from the right side of the machine when I turn it on. Its not a terribly loud noise, but perhaps unususual, although it could be completely normal for all I know. Anyway I am still concerned about it.
The problem is, I have been trying to diagnose the optical drive.I believe there should be an option for this in the diagnostic section of hp support assistant, but there is only options to diagnose the battery and network on mine. I know they removed the hard drive diagnostic tool from here because of some problems, wonder if they might of removed the optical drive diagnostic tool too, or does its absence mean that my optical drive is not detected. the optical drive is detected in device manager butI would stilllike to know if it is working okay. It plays dvds, although very noisy when doing so
Thaught this might mean a problem but my brothers hp laptop is also loud when playing dvds. Anyone know whee I could download the optical drive diagnostic tool for windows 8. the windows 7 one I downloaded wont work with windows 8. Need.
any help or advice would be appreciated, thanksHello Dermot30,
Take a look at this document, which provides steps to test for Hardware Failure using Windows 8. Please let me know if this helps to diagnose your issue.
Good luck!
