Driver Question for Andrew (HP) or Anyone Else:LaserJet CM2320nf MFP, 2600n

This has been posted by me in threads but keeps getting lost in betwixt 1000's of others - so I'm starting anew
Will there be a driver for the HP LaserJet CM2320nf MFP that allows scanning,
and for the LaserJet 2600n that allows printing?
Both under warranty and for both I get nowhere from HP (support, telephone, email).
I'm rolled back to 10.5.8 until my office can use these, or I go to Windows after 25 years on a Mac.

HP is steadily rolling out new drivers, but this is not an Apple problem since HP supplies the drivers. Apple did recently release the HP Printer Drivers 2.1 update a couple of days ago. You can install it to see if drivers for your printer have been supplied. However, only HP can tell you if and when new drivers will be available for both printing and scanning.
Meanwhile you could try VueScan that may support scanning on your device. Or you could try installing the SANE TWAIN driver (may or may not support scanning for your device.) Both can be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
In general it's always a good idea to avoid upgrading in a business environment until you know that all your hardware is supported by manufacturer updated drivers/software. Apple is not responsible for this.
Of course if you think it's less expensive to move to Windows (assuming it supports your hardware) then perhaps that's what you should do.

  • Another question for Old Toad (or anyone else) about backing up iPhoto

Obviously, I am not understanding what I am supposed to do or see when I try to backup my iPhoto library.
My iPhoto Library folder is in "Pictures".
I have downloaded the "iPhoto db File Backup" and put the icon in the dock.
Now, what do I do to perform the backup? I tried opening iPhoto and highlighting Library in the Source pane, then I tried highlighting all the pictures in the library, then I tried highlighting the iPhoto Library folder in Pictures and clicking the db file backup icon in each case. Nothing happened - at least I don't think anything happened. I was expecting a second folder with the title "iPhoto Library copy" or something like that to appear. What should I look for?
Also, when I opened my iPhoto Library folder, I found the following among the list of all the rolls of photos:
    Library.iPhoto
    Library6.iPhoto
When I clicked on each of them, my entire library of photos opened along with the following message:
    Unreadable files: 1
The following file could not be imported. (The file is in the iPhoto Library folder.)
    /Users/my name/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Library6.iPhoto
I don't understand what this means and what I did - or shouldn't have done. If I did something wrong, can I undo it?
Finally, I also saw the following and tried to open them to see what they are, but couldn't. A message window said I had to choose an application that would open them and I didn't know what to choose. What are these three items?
    Thumb32Segment.data
    Thumb64Segment.data
    ThumbJPGSegment.data
I'm keen to backup all the photos I have so would appreciate whatever help/explanations readers can give me with all of this.

What are you trying to back up specifically:
    Your Photos Only
    or
Your iPhoto Library (this includes Albums, books, slideshows, etc)
    or
    Your database file.
Old Toad’s wee application is designed to back up the database file only. It’s intended for use when you’re organising the photos in your Library and it’s a handy protection against damage if the app crashes. But it does not back up any photos.
To back up you iPhoto Library:
Make a copy on another disk of the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder. Copy it as a single unit. Using a Back Up utility such as DejaVu or Chronosync you can make incremental copies - that is, as you make changes to the Library the original back up is updated. (There are many, many back up utilities: search on MacUpdate.)
To back up your Photos only
Select them in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export, select the version you want (Kind: Original or Kind: Current) and export them to another disk.
Note that none of these involves rooting around in the iPhoto Library itself. There are no user serviceable parts there. Any time you go in there you risk damaging the Library.
    Library.iPhoto
    Library6.iPhoto
Are the main database files. You’ve done no damage I would guess. There is no way of reading those files unless you’re a programmer.
    Thumb32Segment.data
    Thumb64Segment.data
    ThumbJPGSegment.data
These are cache files. Iphoto needs them but there’s no reason for you to open them. Even if you did they’d make little sense to you.
The iPhoto Library is a bit like under the bonnet in your car. Fine if you know what you’re doing, but a lot of folks are better off staying out of there.

  • Font Question for Kurt Lang or anyone else who may know

We are using the postscript version of Helvetica Neue roman and medium,
are the kerning values, line spacing, characters, etc... the same if our client was to use the Open Type version. I know its not expensive to buy and try, just trying to avoid it if you guys/gals can help.
    Thanx in advance!

Thanks for the link, ~Bee! I didn't even realize Adobe had a separate forum just for typography. I've only visited the Photoshop and Illustrator forums on occasion. Although I don't spend a whole lot of time here, even what I do is sometimes too much since it keeps me from getting work done (can't help it, I like it here . If I were to start hanging around the Adobe forums too, I wouldn't get anything done.

  • Andrew ??? -- HP LaserJet CM2320nf MFP

Will the scan capability in the HP LaserJet CM2320nf MFP, be supported sometime? New drivers? When (if ever)?

    pcbjr,
With any luck, you should see the full solution online sometime next week. Without luck it will be the week after.

If Image Capture doesn't work you could try the paid for app VueScan ( www.hamrick.com ). You can try it for free in demo mode to see if it works before purchase.

HP says that the drivers for your all in one print/scanner are downloadable from apple. For the scanner to use preview. image capture or the scan icon from the print driver queue.  I don't know how old your HP is, but I know that the newer Os from apple don't support a lot of older printers. You might be able find a third party driver that could work.

  • Spaces and MS Word for Mac 2008..anyone else having this problem

    Hello,
I know MS Word for Mac 2008 isn't a Apple Product but is anyone else having the same problem as me and is there a solution?
I have it set up to be in "spaces 4" and I'll be working on it and suddenly it ends up in space 2, or 1. Really aggravating.
    Sean

Yes. Exact same problem. Folks at the MS MacBu are aware of it and say that both Apple and MS are working on it. It's still an incredibly annoying problem, though. In fact, it's even worse than you descrine.
Not only does Word 2008 work with spaces, it makes it impossible to use spaces with other applications. I've tried to leave all Word docxs (and docs) in one space and then put other applications in other spaces. It doesn't work. Word doc(x)s still move around randomly.
It's one thing for Word 08 not to work with spaces, but to actually interfere with other apps that do (did) work with spaces, that's pretty bad. I have to admit I feel quite foolish for purchasing Microsoft Office 2008 (at considerable expense). I do at least hope both companies are working on a fix.

If you aren't receiving password reset emails and your security questions don't work, someone has hijacked your account.
    This happened to me.
You need to use Expresslane to contact iTunes support to regain access to your account ASAP.

There is no 64 bit driver for XP64.
There is a XP32 bit driver that is supposed to work with x64, but it has issues and hasn't been updated in well over
    a year.
As the above quote illustrates, there seems to be a difference of opinions as to the existence of a real 64bit driver.
Since I use the 32bit, I will simply repeat my statement that a driver is offered.
But curiosity requires me to wonder why the question exist?

  • To Andrew - HP Mac Architect: HP LaserJet CM2320n MFP

    Andrew,
Any time frame yet on the SL driver for the LaserJet CM2320n MFP? I'm particularly interested in the scanner (the printer is already supported through software update, I believe). I've checked the HP website and nothing up yet.
Also, will the new driver default the document feed scan to letter size (it is legal size in 10.5 with the current driver, and with the document feeder the scan size cannot be set to letter in 10.5 - it is "stuck" at legal; multiple page docs have to be shot on the flatbed one at a time to get letter size). There are numerous case numbers over at HP on this issue, and I'm hoping the CM2320n MFP will work properly under 10.6 as a result of HP's new driver.
Any info will be most appreciated!

    pcbjr,
If you have already installed anything on top of Snow Leopard, and you don't have things working, here are the places to delete:
    1) Delete anything that starts with hp from /System/Library/Extensions.
    2) Delete /Library/Application Support/Hewlett-Packard.
    3) Delete anything that starts with hp in /Library/Frameworks.
    4) Delete anything from /Library/Image Capture/Devices, Support, and TWAIN Data Sources that have anything that starts with HP.
    5) Delete /Library/Printers/hp.
    6) Delete all the files from /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources that start with HP (or if you only have HP printers, delete /Library/Printers/PPDs)
    7) Make sure the is nothing that starts with com.hp in /Library/Preferences.
    8) Delete the folder /Application/HP LaserJet (your model) MFP (Series)

  • USB External Hard Drive Question for the E4200 v1 router

I know this is going to be a really dumb question, especially coming from a computer tech of 25 years, but I'm going to ask it just to be safe.
First off, my router is the E4200 v1.  It's a substitute for my older WRT54GS router.  One of the features I am quite fascinated with is the USB external drive usage.  Here's my question.  I have a Western Digital My Passport Essentials 500 GB external drive (Model #WDBAAA5000ABB-02) that I want to use on it.  I know it's not on the Official List of tested USB storage devices for the Linksys E4200 but I really want to use it, especially for storage on my three computer systems.  My question is do I need to unplug the router power supply BEFORE I plug in the external drive to the USB port on the back, or does it matter?
Any help is appreciated.  Again, I know it's a dumb question, but the guides and "How-To" on the Linksys website isn't exactly clear.  Thanks in advance!

Errr... Nevermind.  I think I found a better way to use the external drive without the use of the router.  Thanks anyway.

  • Question for Günter please, anyone's thoughts appreciated – ADDT limits

About a year ago I build a simple social network type application with very basic features:
    Users pages/Public pages
    Friends
    Comments
    Blog
    image uploads
    etc
I stop working on it because I found PhpFox, well I have had little to no luck making it do what I want due to my lack of understanding of OOP.
My question is, do you know or can you think of any limitations that I should consider before putting any more time into my ADDT application?
I know(through reading quite a bit on security) that I’ll need to simplify my url’s with http rewrites, to keep mean people from hacking my url ID querie but what else should I consider for this simple application?.
You should know that since I built it with ADDT, its not modular, most of the code is per page(as Dreamweaver normally does) and I control all user limitations (like # of image uploads) with on the page “IF” statements.
I realize this is not great efficiency or ideal code writing, but it is the limitation for my skills until I learn OOP better. Then I can master PhpFox or Elgg.
I appreciate any and all comments before I waste any more time on my own social network application.
    Thanks everyone

    Hi zzipper7,
...until I learn OOP better. Then I can master PhpFox or Elgg.
IMHO this *is* the answer to your "can you think of any limitations" question
My question is, do you know or can you think of any limitations that I should consider before putting any more time into my ADDT application?
the main limitation to worry about is, that ADDT currently isn´t compatible with PHP 5.3. Other than this it´s clear that applications built with ADDT only provide comparatively basic "web 2.0" (aka AJAX) features except for a handful of components such as the form controls -- AJAX features which are supposed to provide additional functionality will have to be added manually, and it´s up to you (and your application´s "audience") to decide if you can live with this limitation or if your application should provide all those AJAX bells & whistles which would be hard to integrate into ADDT applications.
I know(through reading quite a bit on security) that I’ll need to simplify my url’s with http rewrites, to keep mean people from hacking my url ID querie...
Well, if I wanted, I could also change a "pretty URL" to something completely absurd and see if you - the developer - did provide a "oops, this page is not available" custom HTTP 404 error page
However, in case your ADDT driven application does what you want it do do, and in case a 3rd party application such as PhpFox is too hard to learn, you might still consider sticking with what you´ve built so far. In my opinion the real value of any web application is the degree of control which you, the developer, is able to exercise -- and in case you do know your ADDT driven application inside out while struggling with getting 3rd party scripts to work for you, I personally think the case is clear.
    Cheers,
    Günter

  • External hard drive question for using iTunes -- iPod

Hello, I have my music stored on an external hard drive and want to keep it there (it's too much for my laptop). I can drag the music into itunes on my laptop and create playlists then get the music to my ipod during the same session.
However, if I come back weeks later then try and access the music on my external hard drive via iTunes, it does not recognize the file location. It asks me to locate EVERY single song, which is ridiculous.
Is there any way so that I can keep my music on my external hard drive and keep any songs and playlists intact so I don't have to start from scratch every time?
The only thing I can think of is just putting a small amount of music on my laptop, which would work but defeat the goal of only storing it on the external hard drive.
The other option I saw on one of the other posts was by consolidating the library on a new folder on the external hard drive, but I don't have enough free space on the external drive to make a duplicate copy of everything.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!
    DK

Make an alternate iTunes library and have it stored on the external drive.
Now, every time BEFORE you start iTunes on your laptop, make sure the ex HD is plugged in and recognized by the laptop's Windows operating system.
If you open iTunes before connecting the ex HD, guess what - you'll get a new blank library or corrupt library that can't find the files.
The directions for making a different iTunes library are here
