Driver Recovery

Compaq Presario F700 laptop
PN# KC489VA
Reinstalled the o/s from the recovery cd.  No problem.
Reinstalled the Application and Driver Recovery DVD.  No Problem - Except ----
none of the drivers are installed.   Device Manager shows that the driver is not installed.
I went to the App and Driver DVD and manually selected only the wired and wireless NICs.  This went through the motions but the devices are still unavailable.
I went to compaq/hp web site to download the drivers.  It only shows 3 driver updates.
How do I get the drivers?   From the DVD?   From the web site?
Thanks...

Hi, Darryl:
Those device details reveal it to be either:
Conexant High Definition Audio-Venice 5051
 or
Conexant HD-Audio SmartAudio 221
Did you try the modified version posted on Cheryl's link?
Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver (C700 series, Vx5xx and dvx5xx and ABOVE models)
Driver modded by silver here
Unzip to a folder..use Device Manager, right click "Audio Device on HD",choose Update driver,
No to connect, Install from a list or specific location,
Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains, Reboot.

  • W510 problems with Nvidia driver recovery under Windows 7 (64 bit)?

Lenovo W510, Nvidia Qudardo FX 880M video, FHD:
What I'm seeing on occasion is a Windows 7 (64-bit) recovery, screen blanks out, goes 2-3 seconds, then recovers, things go back to normal, but a message displays saying that an error was detected in the video driver, and it has recovered. The new Firefox (4.0.1) seems to be one of the things that may be a contribution, hard to tell.  Per System Update at least, I'm current on the Lenovo downloads. SIW shows the driver level as 8.17.12.5738 (2010-06-27). Nvidia web-site shows their current driver level on the wen-site as 270.61 (2011-04-18), which is a considerably newer date at least. So two questions:
Has anyone else seen Driver/Recovery issues on Win 7 (64)
Has anyone directly run the Nvidia video drivers and had them run OK?
Seems like it would be nice for Lenovo to update their drivers, if indeed this is a driver issue, they appear back-level.

I used to have this problem with my W510 running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, especially Firefox 4 crashing the Nvidia display driver almost constantly. I googled and found that this is a known problem between older Nvidia driver and Firefox 4. Later on I downloaded the latest version of Nvidia driver from Lenovo website (it was not posted on the System Update server yet but was available on the regular download site). I clean-installed it (i.e., removing all files and settings created by the old driver) and I haven't experienced the problem since then.

  • MBAM System Administrators - Missing Manage TPM and Drive Recovery option - MBAM 2.5

I have installed MBAM 2.5 in a 3 server environment. Every thing is working fine and validated the installation.
But what I have found that the drive recovery tab and Manage TPM is missing for the users member of MBAM System administrators. As there are many changes that comes with MBAM 2.5 and one is exclusion of MBAM local groups.
Everything is perfect for the Advanced Helpdesk and Helpdesk users.
    Gaurav Ranjan

    Hi Gaurav,
As you mentioned, there are no local groups anymore.  During configuration of the Admin portal, you specify AD groups for administration.  We removed the System administrators group because it was kind of redundant.  You could get the same
effect by adding the user to the Advanced Helpdesk and Reporting Users AD groups you specify.  So, if you add whatever user you wanted to be the "system administrator" for MBAM to both of those AD groups, that should solve your problem.  Note you
may have to log out of your machine and back in after adding them to the group so that they get the token, as with any AD group addition.

  • Recomendations for Hard Drive recovery tool

Does any one have a recommendation for a Hard Drive recovery tool?
My brothers external Lacie 200MB Firewire drive has crapped out. He has all his family movies (iMovie projects) stored on it so he really needs to recover the files if possible.
I have the drive now and have hooked it up to my machines and it is definitely in bad shape. At this point I can see the drive in the finder, but it doesn't appear to contain any files or folders. It also shows up in Disk Utilities, but a Verify Disk doesn't reveal any problems (and running "Repair Disk" returned "No repairs were necessary, the volume seems to be OK").
At this point the disk just appears to be empty. I am running a deep scan with Stellar Phoenix right now. Any suggestions on the best OS X recovery tools.
    Thanks
    EDIT:
oh, and the disk appears to be formatted HFS+
I was thinking about yanking the drive and installing it internally to the ide bus - don't know if this would make a difference.

Well, that’s a lot of interesting advice.
The first thing to do is NOTHING! Don’t try heroic efforts until you’ve explored all the demonstrably non-destructive ones.
First of all, if the drive mounts, gives no errors from the Finder or from Disk Utility but appears to contain no files, then the likelihood that this is a symptom of a hardware error is very small. Moving the drive to different enclosures or trying to connect it internally is probably not advisable.
Are you cerrtain the drive was not simply re-initialized? That would be the simplest explanation for there being no files apparent. If that’s the case, then surely a majority of the contents are recoverable, BUT NOT IF YOU DO ANYTHING FURTHER WITH THE DRIVE.
If you have recovery software that’s specifically designed to recover files from a re-initialized volume, use that. If not and you cannot acquire such software, and if the data is valuable enough, then I strongly recommend that you use a commercial data recovery service.
Unfortunately, I cannot give you any specific recommendations for diagnostic and repair software—I’ve been away from Mac OS too long.
I know this is not very specific, and I’m sorry for that. I’ll keep an eye out in case you have other questions that I might be able to answer.
    Good luck.

  • Is or is not "Application & Driver Recovery DVD" bootable? - SafeMode boot fails-corrupt CryptUI.dll

I'm trying to recover my daughter's Pavilion dm4-3170se. My daughter had not made a recovery disk and has no recent back-up of her data file set.
Problems (and what I have done so far) are quite parallel to what the user reported in this amazingly detailed post:
Difference is that in Safe Mode boot (command line or not), Windows boot fails on a dll, specifically CryptUI.DLL.
While amazingly detailed post user isn't getting into Windows boot, I am...for about 30 DLLs before it chokes on the corrupted one. I have tried a number of other things to get past it to no avail.
My daughter's original Recovery Disc set bought the farm when her house burned. So I ordered and got a replacement set from HP. I am loathe to use it before recovering her data files because she will lose maybe 40% of her professional work.
The delivered Recovery Disc set includes an "Application and Driver Recovery DVD". Given >20 years of Wintel machine tradition, I'm presuming it's bootable. Amazingly Detailed Post user got hers to boot from her DVD drive. But configuring the BIOS to seek the DVD drive as the first boot choice doesn't get it to boot after two tries.
Before I pour more time into this, I'd like the Collective Wisdom here.
Q1: Is this HP disc, numbered 691822-B22, meant to be bootable?
Q2a: If it is, do you imagine I can use the command line interface to copy identifed-as-bad DLL(s) to the HD?
Q2b: If it isn't, why the, er, gollygoshdarn isn't it? Must be an actual reasonable thing...
Thanks for all insights based on experience.

    Hi:
Any HP application and driver DVD I have ever used is not bootable.
It should autorun from the windows desktop once windows has been reinstalled.
That is the only question I can answer of the ones you asked.
    Suggestion...
Make your own W7 installation ISO from the link below.
Use that to install W7 and do not delete any partitions or format the drive.
Windows will install and create a Windows.old folder of the current operating system.
Then you can copy any files you need from the Windows.old folder after W7 is installed.
Once you are sure you got what you need, run the recovery disk set to restore the hard drive to its out of the box condition.
Link to W7 ISO files is below.  Use the W7 x64 home premium file from the SP1 Media Refresh listing.
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/14709-Windows-7-Digital-River-direct-links-Multiple-Languag...
Then use this tool to transfer the iso file onto a DVD or 4 GB USB flash drive.  The tool will also make the iso file bootable.

  • Advice about external hard drive recovery

Does anyone have experience or advice about external hard drive recovery?
I have a USB external drive that crashed during a power brownout, I couldn't mount the image at first but used Diskwarrior to rebuild it. Now I can see and navigate the drive but I am unable to pull many files off without the finder crashing. It would transfer about 130mb of 10gb then stay at that number and not progress past that amount.
Should I try a different recovery program or would removing the drive and placing it in another external drive enclosure solve something like this?
    any help appreciated

  • Hard Drive Recovery Process has been selected

One day, while playing a game online, the computer screen went black and a blue box appeared that said "Hard Drive Recovery Process has been selected Press Yes if you wish to continue " Also, there was NO which only shut the computer down. YES took me to a blue screen with recovery and troubleshooting options. At first, none of these worked, or stayed. Because the next time I used my computer I would get the same Hard Drive Recovery Process message and had to try various things to make it work. I did purchase a Windows 8.1 recovery flashdrive from Toshiba and attempted to install it. It took about 6 tries for it to completely install. However, after installing, I was unable to use the RESTART option to power off the computer as it would trigger the Hard Drive Recovery Process again ! Ugh ! Last night, I powered the laptop off using SHUT DOWN and in the morning, I got the Hard Drive Recovery Process screen again, much to my horror. I have Norton Internet Security and Anti Virus as well as I used Toshiba maintenance tasks and no problems were found. I would appreciate any information on troubleshooting and repairing this problem, if there is a solution. Thanks !!!!!

I did purchase a Windows 8.1 recovery flashdrive from Toshiba   ...   after installing  ..  it would trigger the Hard Drive Recovery Process again
The fact that the problem remains after restoring the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media means the software doesn't cause it.
    The computer needs servicing.

  • Pen-drive recovery from bitlocker

Hello , i secured my pen-drive with bit-locker and i forgot my password and lost my recovery key . I have a lot of important files in there , please help me recover it.

    Hi,
Like Aaron said, sorry, but unless you remember your password, your data is unfortunately lost.
The entire point of encrypting your data is that no one but the holder of the password has access. If there where an easy way to bypass the encryption, there would not be much point to it.

  • Bitlocker drive recovery and formatted

Hello Dears. I had encrypted my drive by Bitlocker in windows 7.
few days after my friend did quick format in my encrypted drive.
i remember unlock password & recover password
how can i recover my data??????
    someone help me please.

    Hello., I
    tried all recovery
    programs but were unable
    to retrieve something.
    Because Bitlocker information
    is encoded
    And as stated before:
Your only possible solution is a commercial or third party disk recovery program or service.
There is nothing in Windows to recover data from a formatted hard drive.
If you comprehend English, then you can comprehend the solution given above and that from Vladimir Bundalo!

  • NB200 -00L stopped during the middle of formatting, can no longer use the hard drive recovery option

    Hello,
    NB200 -00L is the model
Power was down during the beginning of hard drive reformat,I had tried to press 0 (zero) during restart
I had also tried to press F8 during it restart, then choose repair option, but it kept rebooting itself in a loop with no error message.
I really would like to restore to the manufacturing settings.
I had my usb drive, but the system does not recognize the mirror image on my usb flash drive anymore.
Unfortunately, my model does not come with a dvd reader neither.
    What are my options?

Everything for that Canadian model is here.
the system does not recognize the mirror image on my usb flash drive anymore.
I don't understand what's happening. If you cannot boot from a flash drive with recovery media, it may  be that the drive does not have the proper contents. You can remedy that by ordering a new flash drive from Toshiba.
See the section Restoring the pre-installed software from your created Recovery Media, which is on  p. 3-14 of your User's Manual.
If you cannot boot from a known bootable flash drive, I would seek service.

  • Bitlocker on Windows 7 - External drive recovery with unlock password

    Hi,
I am in the unfortunate situation where I have a 3tb external hard drive that I have 2 partitions on. The smaller, 250gb partition was encrypted using bitlocker for work purposes. Now that I have left my previous job, I wanted to decrypt the drive and use
    it normally.
While trying to decrypt, the laptop ran out of battery, and the process was interrupted. In the morning when I tried to unlock the drive, I keep getting the message "Bitlocker Drive Encryption failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion"
Unfortunately, I do not any of the recovery keys (which were in the old work laptop). However, I have the password that I normally use to unlock the drive.
My question is: Is there any way I can use the bitlocker recovery tool to salvage my data using the normal unlock password?
Second, on the off chance that I can, do I need to output the data to an entirely new drive? If I use the option to output to an image file, will that still overwrite all the contents of the output drive?
Any help would be much appreciated. Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide. Thank you!

    Hi,
Have you tried using manage-bde command to decrypt this partition?
