Driver wanted for SE/30 Ethernet Card (Cnet CN470E)

I have a beautiful SE/30 which has a CNet Technology CN470E network card in it. I think the reason i can not get it networked is that it needs a driver for its Ethernet card, and i could not find it on the net. It would be so great if someone could share it with me! Thanks!

Hello, thanks for caring! The case seems to be this: this card, as well as many other ethernet cards are supported by the Mac OS from 7.5 and above (drivers are embedded upon factory install even for 3rd party cards), and the previous versions could have these genuine Apple "drivers". However, when you acquire the original installs, the custom drivers may be more efficient, eg using larger cache buffers that leads to faster operation and so forth.
It might be not obvious for those who not use classic OS on a daily basis that:
1) IP addresses don't get shown instantly like they do in OS-X. It will get the DHCP configuration when starting a browser
2) I personally could not get Appletalk sharing files, which was another bag of hurt, as sending files over FTP is not straightforward (you have to stuff them, etc which is really painful to get a working version of the ancient software to do it).
3) configuring the OS is nothing like you can see in the tutorials on the web. one may discover soon that there are no certain control panels, and such.
I wish i could go back to 7.01 or 7.1 for a faster operation, but im not crazy Figuring this out took a whole night already...

  • How to upgrade driver/firmware for 3rd party airport card?

I have a Motorola WPCI810g wireless card that i have been using for over a year. Previously in Panther i tried to upgrade to Airport 4.2 to take advantage of WPA, but i ended up having to downgrade back to 4.1 because 4.2 left airport nonoperational. I have been on Tiger for quite a while and only recently noticed that i was automatically upgraded to Airport 4.2, however I do not have WPA as an encryption option (neither when joining, or creating a network). I can only assume it has to do with the firmware on the card but I cant figure out how to update it. I have tried to search these threads but the closest i can come is using Airport Admin Utility to upgrade the firmware on a base station.
    About Airport is such:

  • Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go Display driver wanted for Satellite 5105-S901 !

    Dear all,
I have Toshiva Satellite 5105-S901 and experiencing some proplems with running latest games, perhaps because of pretty old Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go Display driver. Laptop has been bought in 2002, and since then video-drivers were not updated.
So, where can I get them?
Nvidia does not provide drivers for Go chipsets and send customers to manufacturers. But on tosiba.com I found drivers that were placed there exactly in 2002. My laptop already has these.
But where to get the new ones?
I don't believe that there in no driver-update heas been done by Toshiba for three years for Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go Display driver.
    Well, need some advice.
    Sincerely your's
    Alex.
    P.S.:Laptop still has good perfomance(P4-2Hz,2gb RAM,64Mb Video).

    Hi Alexei,
I had problems with my ATI Radeon graphics not working an some games, so I contacted the TDK technical support guys who suggested I should use the latest drivers from http://www.omegadrivers.net/.
Sadly I could not get the ATI drivers to load on my notebook but perhaps you will have more luck with the NVIDIA ones.
I agree with you that it is a great shame that Toshiba do not update their graphics drivers.

The Radeon 9000 driver works for the Radeon 7500 card.  I have successfully used it on a T43 with Vista Ultimate x86

Unfortunately no.  The Radeon 9000 driver should bring your graphics score up to close to 2, but it will not get it high enough to enable Aero support.

  • I need a PCI ethernet card driver for my Performa 6360...

Roughly a week ago, I decided to add yet another one of my classic Macs to my LAN, a classic gaming LAN of sorts, with that mac being a Performa 6360. With it's single empty (at the time) PCI slot, the solution for an ethernet card for the system was basically screaming at me. Unfortunately, I went to my local electronics store with the assumption that PCI ethernet cards are fairly generic devices that should work in nearly everything without a problem. That turned out not to be the case. Once I finally aquired the time to install it, the card itself appeared to work, with the outer LEDs indicating network activity and a 100mbps network speed, however, when I went into the Appletalk or TCP/IP control panels, I came to the terrible realization that I needed a driver. The included CD was, much to my dismay, Windows only, Google searches haven't been much help, and worst of all, I seem to have misplaced my reciept. The "card" I keep mentioning is a Linksys LNE100TX version 5.1. Here is what is shown in the apple system profiler:
    ==============================
    PCI Slot
    Card type: ethernet
    Card name: pci1317,574
    Card model: -1
    Card Rom #: Not available
    Card Revision: 17
    Card Vendor ID: 1317
    ==============================
What I am wondering is where I could find a driver for this card, and if that answer is "nowhere", is there any way I could get this card functioning under Mac OS 8.1? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

finding one, is a good question. Oddly enough the link you posted to the 10T version is the same company as above.
Yes, I have tried searching a number of places for it, and haven't come up with much. Here is what a google shopping search pulled up (eBay came up empty), the first being "unavailable" for purchase once you add it to your shopping cart and the second costing only $150! I could easily buy a new (used) mac with the card installed in it for that much!
As for the PCI slot cards you are trying, keep in mind that you are trying to use current cards which didn't exist back in the day your Mac and OS were made...... I have Asante 10/100 PCI cards in some of that generation mac and they work fine but then they were supported by the OS.
Good point. Even back when I purchased it, the card seemed a bit of a long-shot to me, too. However, being on sale for $15, I thought, "why not at least try?". Unfortunately, I came up with the results above. However, you have given me a good idea. I realize from reading a few posts around here on the issue that it is a good idea to keep the pci slot of the computer open on this computer until there is a need to upgrade, let's say, for a graphics card. However, what if I have no future plans to add anything (as is currently)? Is it really that necessary that I keep the slot open? I'm sure it would be exponentially easier to find a card for that.
A long shot might be to try loading OS 9.0.4 and see if you get lucky as 8 is pretty old plus there's a part of me that wonders with such a slow bus and cpu that 100T is going to make a big difference.
    Kevin
Thank you for the suggestion, but that's how I collected the information for the card in the first place. The Performa 6360 didn't seem to take the card, so I popped it in to my Beige G3 running Mac OS 9.2.2 and hoped it might work on that. Same problem, however, the Apple System Profiler is much more thorough on that OS, so I was able to acquire the card's information. The reason for the 100-BaseT Ethernet, again, is not solely based on that one computer; It's the fact that I would prefer the network to run at the faster speed and with four macs currently on it, with a few more modern ones such as the iBook G3 shown below, the speed is a nice thing to have.
So, on that note, any suggestions for a PCI equivalent? Has Apple ever made any? If so, where could I find them at a reasonable (Read: Not $150) price?
    Thanks again.

  • Check for mac address (physical address) of ethernet card

    Hi!
We want to deliver LabVIEW code which will run only on licensed machines (node locked licensing).
We have a PXI chassis with one or more PCs connected to the same LAN as the chassis. We have locked our first license to the chassis by checking for the serial number of the DAQ card installed in the chassis. Now, we want to run a second license on ONLY ONE of the standard desktops connected to the chassis. We've removed the DAQ card check since there are no DAQ cards on the desktops. But a no check software can be freely copied and run on more than one desktops. How do we prevent this?
One idea is to check for the MAC address of the ethernet card at runtime. Question is how do I retrieve the MAC address at run time in my LV exe?
Is there another way to achieve a node locked licensing? Some people use HDD serial number .... ??
We are using LV 7.1 on Win2K.
    Thanks.

About this questions, below I include a response I wrote to a similar subject. I hope it is useful.
    Enrique wrote:
If you still want to implement the copyright scheme yourself, this are some of my thoughts about that subject. I hope this can start a good topic of conversation:
If you want your program to run on a specific machine, you need to know about that machine so your software is somehow "made" exclusively for that machine. If you can make the software so it utilize resources very specific to the target computer, then you are ok. It is difficult to come up with the right analogy. Let say it is like somebody make a uniform specifically for you and take into consideration all your exact measurements like size, weight, etc. (we are assuming a little here, like those measurement won't change). It can be argued that there maybe somebody in the universe that is like you, but the chances can be sufficiently low so it is acceptable to you to take the risk. All this is usually very difficult and expensive.
A more common approach is to know information that can uniquely identify the computer and then create the application so it first ask the computer to identify itself. Upon correct identification, the application provide its services. An analogy is that I am the one who provide the services and I have your name and driver license number on file. If you request service, I ask you for those identifiers and once I verify your identity you are good to go.
A more secure approach will be that we share a secret like a password. I, as the application, ask you (the computer) to authenticate, that is, to provide identification and the password. An alternative is to have something that, although is not secret, it cannot be forged (at least, within certain probability). Let say I ask you for your signature. The bundle human presence + signature cannot be forged.
A way to implement the latest one may go like the following: each copy of your software has a unique identifier (SI) and a unique key (K) that enable the application. You ask the target computer for its unique identifiers (CUI). You generate a random string (R) for the secret and then create a function f such that: K = f(SI, CUI, R). To get the right key K that enable your software, all the other parameters must be the right ones.
If this is done right, the security of the application will depend on the secret (R), so you better generate and manage R right. Also, you want to make sure the function f() cannot be bypassed (i.e., direct insertion of K is not possible).
There are a lot of additional issues to deal here, but I'll stop for now. I need to run some errands....

    Hi jith,
Do you already have a driver developed for this PCI board?  You can access .dll's and call their functions from LabVIEW if you already have a .dll for this board developed.  Otherwise, I would recommend using the VISA Driver Development Wizard.  Hope this helps!

  • MSI 76.45 driver update for 6 series cards?

After checking the MSI site for updated drivers, it looks like the 7645's are the latest for the 6 series cards. Yet, in the readme file under compatible cards for this driver version, there are no 6 series cards listed. What's up with that?
I was just wondering if MSI has something wrong here. Is this, in fact, the latest driver for the 6600GT??
(My apologies if this subject was already covered)

    Clark,
Just go to nVidia for your nVidia Drivers
Depending on who wrote the readme file, you're right, there could be something wrong, and it's just a readme. Nvidia usually claims all drivers are backwards compatable, however, as you may know, nVidia's drivers correspond with the genre of card currently on the market, ie GF4=4X.XX GF5 (FX)=5X.XX GF6=6X.XX and so on, so nVidia currently focuses on optimizations for the current card on the market and sometimes support suffers for older cards. Having said ALL that, more times than I care to count, MSI seems behind the times, this is the norm, as documentation and consistency is not a strong point on any the website, hence my recommendation to go directly to nVidia. If it is the latest and greatest from MSI that you want becasue of the DOT feature, then I believe that is the latest from MSI.
Now I'm wondering how you are looking for drivers. Are you looking for drivers via the MSI Live Update Utility, or on the Taiwan website? In any case whatever is there from MSI is there. It you want the latest and greatest then you can take your chances and start expirimenting with the latest from nVidia ftp://download.nvidia.com/windows The whole shebang is there for your convenience.
Finally, if everything is working fine, then there should be no reason to update. Recomendations to keep your system loaded with all the latest drivers is not always the best advice...
    Does that help?

  • Ethernet Card for PowerMac 5500/225

I've an old PowerMac still gathering dust and since I'm connected to a DSL line with a wireless router I thought I'd take advantage of the 4 wired Ethernet ports at the back and wire my Mac up to the Net (you know, the old fasioned way with some Cat 5).
This will mean bypassing the old dial-up modem (built in) by installing an Ethernet card. I imagine these now cost pennies, and can be bought on eBay, but which make and model will work best (or work at all)?
Thanks in advance for any help that's forthcoming...
PowerMac 5500/225 Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier System 8.0

Many of the 5500s shipped with a Comm II slot RJ-45 Ethernet card in the leftmost (from the operator position) position [that's rightmost if you have good access to look directly at the backpanel.]
Alas, some of them did not. If you want to install one there, you will need a Comm II slot (not to be confused with a Comm slot) Ethernet card. They are readily available from used Mac dealers, and can be had on eBay for under US$20.
If and only if you already have the right-angle PCI slot adapter board in place, you can also use a PCI slot card, but beware -- many of the manufacturers are either no longer in business, or cannot supply Mac drivers. So if you buy a Brand other than Apple, be sure you are getting the Drivers with the card.

  • New drives help for APPLE RAID Card RAID Redo

    Hi,
I've been happily using an Apple 3,1 MacPro with Apple RAID Card installed and connected to 4-500 GB Apple OEM drives. I'd like to redo my setup and replace the Apple drives with bigger drives. Someone said I could only use up to 2 TB drives - is this correct?
Has anyone done this or anything like it using Seagate Drives that are not Apple OEM. Will that work OK or will the Apple RAID Card want to see Apple OEM drives? Apple sells 2TB Seagates, but they cost a lot compared to non-OEM drives, but will cheaper generic Seagate Barracuddas work OK in every way?
Also, after accomplishing this upgrade, I'd like to upgrade this machine to the latest Lion and possibly even Moutain Lion System Software. Any issues perceived?
To reiterate, I'd like to increase my storage to the max in my Early 2008 MacPro3,1 which has the Apple RAID Card utilizing a RAID5. This is spec'd at  "4 - 3.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA) controllers" but no mention is made of what the MAX Size drives that will be addressed by the RAID Card.
Thanks, and so long for now, TOM

I thought it was an oxymoron to be using Apple RAID card, and to be happy.
It does not support drives larger than 2.2TB
Seagate's just seem to be more trouble. Any enterprise drive should do.
If you really really need RAID5 then maybe this card is useful, otherwise, no.,
There is much less than 300MB/sec x 4 in bandwith, they are shared and not independent, but the total is more like 800MB/sec maximum. Less overhead and other factors comes in more like 700MB/sec total max. \
SSDs have come a long way.
Use a PCIe cards to manage 2 x SSDs of 500GB up to 1TB
Use Disk Utility or SoftRAID 4 to manage 2-4 drive mirror or stripe arrays
10.8.4 has a bug that interferes with using 3TB and larger drives, just introduced bug.
This is the FIRST time there have been limits on drive size. And Apple RAID card. Seems the card is not getting updated firmware to address the need for larger drives. For those using SAS it is also a viable candidate.
SSD on its own to hold the system. 4 x 2TB WD Black for data and media storage. 4 x SSDs for scratch and graphic catalogues and media... all depends what your goal and use and type of programs.
No you do not need to use Apple's.
I cannot vouche for or seen someone doing so but I would hope that WD RED series would be suitable.
