Drivers for an old iomega external HDD

I can not get my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 to recognize a 5 year old external hard drive from iomega. The product code is 31759000 RDHD-U. The hard drive powers up, all cables have been checked to work on other devices, and yet nothing happens when connected.

What interface does your model use? Firewire and USB interfaces are supported in OS X. Drivers should not be needed. SCSI, on the other hand, do require drivers.
Do you know what sort of interface is on the drive itself? You may be able to relocate it into an enclosure that supports USB, Firewire, etc. and also supports the drive's native interface. I'm afraid I'm not too much help here because I have not used an Iomega device in years, and those I used were the bare drives.

  • Help please: iOmega external HDD not mounting

    Hello,
I hope someone can help me 1) solve this problem and 2) give me some tips on how to avoid if it was self induced.
My iOmega external HDD won't automatically mount. It does not display in Disk Profiler. In System Profiler I can see an unknown Firewire device which I believe is it. It has data on it currently so I'd prefer not to have to format it! I tried searching some other threads but they tend to be very specific.
    Thanks!

Hi, za_. Is this a bus-powered portable USB2 drive? If so, it probably demands a little more power than the port it's connected to can provide. In that case, the problem can be resolved by supplying power to it from (a) an auxiliary power cable that draws additional power from your Powerbook's second USB port, or (b) its own AC adapter, if it came with one, or if one is available as an option for it. If the drive enclosure has no port on it for an auxiliary power input, then (c) you'll have to interpose an AC-powered USB hub between the computer and the drive. Option A is the best, because it isn't bulky and preserves the portability of the drive. Option C is the worst, because it's the bulkiest of the three.
If your drive isn't a 2.5" portable unit, please supply exact details about what model it is and how it's powered, and we'll see about other explanations for the problem.

  • Iomega external HDD - Should you eject them or just switch macbook off?

    Greetings
I have an Iomega eGo HDD (Mac Edition) which I connect to my macbook via Firewire 400 and backup using Time Machine. It doesn't have a power switch on the HDD. When I want to switch my macbook off should I right-click on the Iomega icon on the desktop and click on Eject "Iomega_HDD" and then unplug the firewire cable and power the macbook off? Or can I just turn the power off on the macbook and leave the HDD connected?
Any help appreciated as the online support for the HDD doesn't mention this? I know the mac sometimes gives error messages if you disconnect devices without exiting them properly, so I just want to make sure I'm doing it right and not damaging the HDD. Can anyone help please?

You can just shut down the computer (as long as the HDD stays plugged in till it's done shutting off). Finder will automatically eject all disks before shutting down.
Just make sure to eject if you're unplugging, that's all!

  • Drivers for Windows Server 2008 and HDD issues

Recently I have had the hard drive with my OS fail. After replacing the hard drive and reinstalling windows server 2008 I seem to have run into a few issues with drivers.  After insalling Windows, I had 3 items in my device manager that did not install properly. I was able to get the driver for the LAN port to work but I have not gotten the driver for "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and "SM Bus Controller". After a little research, I believe the video card is a Radeon HD4350. With that information I still have been unable toinstlal the correct drivers for either of these items. I've tried several drivers listed on the drivers support page on HP's website but all fo them return the same error about not finding the correct Operating System. The link to the driver I used originally on my previous installation seems to not be valid any longer.
Also I can't seem to access the two additoinal hard drives (connected by sata). They were used with the previous installation of windows with no issues. They appear in the device manager but do not show up under My Computer. A removeable drive does show up that I'm not sure what it is. Previously I had used software to mirror one of the drives onto the other as to prevent losing data if a drive would fail. Is one of the above drives causing the issue with not being able to access the drives or did the software used before cause the problem?
Any help on these issues is greatly appreciated.

    OK.
I can't help you with the drives then.  That is out of my realm of knowledge.  If they are marked healthy and active in the disk management utility, then that is all I know that they should be indicated.
    As for the graphics driver...
Download and install this free file utility.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file and select 7-zip from the list of options.
Select 7-zip to Extract to: and let it extract the file into a folder.  I let it extract to the file name of the folder.
Then just follow the rest of my instructions to install the driver.
Of course you will first browse to where 7-zip has extracted the folder to, and proceed from there.

  • My Iomega external HDD can no longer be read by my Macbook Pro *Please Help*

The day before my problem began my external was working fine then the next day I plugged it into my mac and now it can't be read. I get a message that says it can't be read with the options to eject, ignore, and initialize. When I click initialize it sends me to disk utility where I see the HDD but it doesn't say Iomega like it usually does instead it says External Raid Media. To make things worse it says it's not partitioned. I can't even verify or repair disk because the options are greyed out. I tried restarting, opening it up to see if it was a physical problem. I don't know what to do any assistance will be appreciated.

Do a reset.. power off the TC..
Hold in reset and power on.. keep holding in reset until it flashes rapidly.. if it turns on at all.
If you bought it in June.. take it back today.. it is broken.. at a guess.
Some Gen4 are failing this way.. get Apple to replace it.. even if it is a few days out of warranty it won't be much.

  • Proprietary ati drivers for an old computer

Hello all, as this is my first post; I've recently been getting a newly acquired, but fairly old laptop (a Dell latitude d600) set up with arch linux, and have been going through all sorts of fun problems. I've been enjoying arch, and the very strange new experience of ratpoison, and the feeling of getting to work out so many problems with old hardware. One I'm pretty sure I don't quite have the expertise for however, is my video card.
As it is right now, for my card Radeon Mobility 9000 - rv250, I've installed the xf86-video-ati drivers. However, I'd like to have the proprietary drivers installed (I'll admit, mainly for playing minecraft), and after reading through the wiki, it seems the proprietary drivers no longer support my chipset. There seem to be packages in the AUR, namely catalyst-old, that may serve my purposes, but installing them has proved to be a bit of a headache. Also it's 4:30am here, and I'm just about done searching around for fixes. I assume it can be done, but I've so far been lacking in google-fu prowess/technical ability. Excuse me if I've missed something.
    Thanks guys.

Afaik the proprietary drivers don't support those old cards anymore, they consider the open source drivers the "official" ones. You could of course install older versions of the driver, but trust me, you don't want to do that, they are 1. crap and 2. they don't support the most recent version of xorg, so you won't be happy with them no matter what you do.

  • Need logical setup advice for new iTunes on external HDD and new laptop

New to Win7, would like to know the best way to re-create from scratch my 5+ year old iTunes library on a new external hard drive without simply copying the previous iTunes folder structure over. I guess that I would like to add all the music, video, movie and iPhone app files to a new library. What is the best method to do this so that iTunes can organize all of the new data from scratch correctly? What about reauthorizing apps and media I purchased through iTunes? anything special to do to reintroduce this data to a new iTunes?
(to clarify - I intend to install the iTunes program on my local C drive in programs on the laptop and all data on the external drive) Thanks...

    Steve M. wrote:
I know I should have redundant backups and should probably have a second external HD and eventually will.
    Yes, that's best.
But for now, if I partition (I'm assuming I should) a new 1 TB external HD, how big should I make the TM partition vs. the SD partition at this point assuming I have under 100 GB on my internal Mac HD? Is this a feasible way of doing things here in the near term.
Your best bet is to make your TM partition 2-3 times the size of the amount of data you anticipate backing-up. Put it first on the drive; that way, later on you can delete the partition below it, expand the TM partition, and make a new, smaller partition for SD (or use the whole drive). See #1, #3, #5 and #6 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum, for details.
By the way, any recommendations on which peripheral HDs to consider? I was very surprised on a recent visit to my local Apple Store that they have a large stock of WD My Studio drives. I mentioned to an Apple sales person that I had always heard WDs were kind of a no-no among Mac users but she assured me the current crop of them were much improved. Any comment on that??
Most any drive will work with Macs, and Time Machine.
If you're going to put a "bootable clone" on it, be sure it's a bootable drive. Most PPC Macs can boot only from FireWire; most Intels can boot from F/W or USB. But some Western Digitals won't boot a Mac. Their list of which ones should and +should not+ boot: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?pfaqid=1787. But note the disclaimer that they don't support it +*at all.+*.
In addition, many of them have a built-in sleep mode that cannot be disabled, and sometimes interferes with Time Machine backups: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?pfaqid=1376

  • A MBP with Ssd only for gaming, while a external hdd for all the other apps. Is that possible?

    Is that possible?

wrote: For most apps, it's possible, but there are other which will give you troubles.
In my experience, with most of the apps that I use on a regular basis, most must be installed on the boot drive. You can't just 'move', for example, Adobe CC applications, Office apps (as you note), etc.
If I were the OP, I would install all apps on the SSD - they actually take up very little room - and insatll only user files, etc., on an external drive.
    Just my 2¢...

  • Looking for drivers for an old PCI-FlexMotion card

I'm trying to use an old PCI-FlexMotion card (ASSY nr. 184979B-01) in my win XP PC.  The motion software version 5.0 seems not to have a compatible driver because the OS did not found the PIC card. I did not find any addtional driver on NI-support side. Is there any chance to use the PIC card. That old is it not!
    thanks.

    Nop, it didn't work:
but:  I have only MOTION 5.2. (no other older version in available in the NI-Support page) However, I tried with 5.2 copying the files as described in the readme text.  The OS does not recognise the FlexMotion board.
Trying choosing the driver manually (PCI device propertiesà update driveràspecific locationà don’t search)  in the NI motion controller driver list the Flexmotion board does not appear. I only see: PCI-encoder-4a, PCI Servo-XX, PCI-Step-XXX and some other  PXI-7XXX devices.  I’ve test some of them with no success.
    Thank you.

  • Limiting Space used on external HDD for Time Machine

I'm really clueless on how this works and I would appreciate your thoughts on this. I recently bought an external HDD and I want to limit the allocated space for TM to only half of the capacity. I recently formatted the external HDD to FAT32 in order for me to use it with my other systems.
Is it possible to make this work? I saw an article wherein you can create a disk image in the external HDD, will that work?
Below are some specs of my external HDD:
Objective: Use Time Machine on my 1TB External HDD while limiting the space to only 400MB for back-up.
External HDD Settings: Iomega External HDD formatted as FAT32 and Master Boot Record

    Hello,
Here is the best solution I can think of without using any extra software to alter your Time Machine settings.
You could use Disk Utility to divide the 1 TB external HDD into two partitions (400 GB + 600 GB).
    (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app)
Warning: Using Disk Utility to divide the drive into two partitions will erase everything on them.
Once that's done, when you reconnect your hard drive to your computer, and open Time Machine in System Settings, you could assign Time Machine to the 400 GB partition.
Here is the catch though, Time Machine cannot backup to FAT32, so you would have to format at least the 400 GB partition as "Mac OS Extended Journaled" with Disk Utility. If you want to use that drive with other non-Mac systems, best solution would be to share it over the network.
That is the best I can think of for your problem. Hope that helps.

  • AC adapter for PX1269E-1G50 external HDD

    Hi all,
I have lost the AC adapter for the PX1269E-1G50 external HDD and would like to buy a new one. Does anyone know what the part number is for this adapter, and where to buy it?
    Thanks

It is not easy to get this info. Have you maybe users manuals or some other document?
Maybe you can find this info there.
By the way: check the power supply adapter info and maybe you can use some universal one.

  • Preparing my external HDD for USB-C port?

    Hi.
I'm hearing news that 3rd parties like Belkin, Lacie, are preparing USB-C type external HDD.
But I'm confused. Isn't it just a marketing hype?
Since USB has a backward compatibility, USB-C port will recognize USB 3.0 peripherals.
So, all I need is to buy a USB-C to USB 3.0 cable that must be sold for $2, for my currently possesing external HDD, I believe.
Am I right? or am I missing something?

    That's correct.
