Drivers for burning CDs

Help needed!
A message that registry settings for Drivers for importing & burning CDs & DVDs is missing appears when opening iTunes.
As advised by the error message I re-installed V 10.6.1.7 (from fresh download) but still get the same message.
iTunes does read CDs but will not burn one.
Ran diagnostics for CD/DVD drive tests. Not sure how to attach them to this question.
Thanks

  • ITunes Drivers for Burning CDs

I recently began receiving the message, "iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs cannot be found. Please reinstall iTunes." I reinstalled iTunes from my factory disc and the message still appears. I then copied my music library to another directory, and reinstalled iTunes and I'm still getting the same message. Additionally, when I tried to create a playlist from music I had downloaded from a CD, I get another message, "The song_ could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Any suggestions on what might be causing these messages? I'm not very tech-savvy so would appreciate any help!

    hiya!
(i'm just replying about the drivers message.)
"iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs cannot be found. Please reinstall iTunes."
that sort of message is often caused by a device filters conflict in your registry.
if the reinstall of the latest version that pac_80 recommends (it's a good idea) doesn't seem to help matters, there's some useful (somewhat advanced) techniques for tracking down the conflicts given here:

  • Registry setting for burning cds missing?   how can i fix?

I keep getting an error message when trying to burn a cd that the registry setting for burning cds is missing.  I've totally uninstalled and reinstalled all componets of itunes with no success.  Can anyone help please.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

I used to be able to print labels for burned CDs with the cover being the playlist name and the other side the song titles...now the titles print out compacted, overlapping each other and illegible. I thought it was the printer but it happened w/1 other printer as well,  which I used before for this exact thing w/no problem.

Try cleaning the print head with rubbing alcohol wipe, then replace your print head. Keep pushing the Ok.

Have you tried redownloading the GEAR drivers from feed://www.gearsoftware.com/rss/GEAR-drivers-feed.php ?
Sometimes reinstalling them fixes the problem.
I also found this wiki post that might help - http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=CD/DVDdrives_disappearing_due_to_incorrect_registryentry

are generic and do not address the problem I've described in numerous posts - I have read and implemented these suggestions with out success. When launched, itunes complains that "the registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs/DVDs are missing" is missing CD drivers. When I acknowledge the problem and try to burn CDs from itunes the error message "disk recording is not found" is received.

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

  • Registry used by itunesdrivers for burning CDs are missing - help!

    Hello All.
I have just upgraded my itunes from version 6 to the latest, and now it cannot see audio CDs or burn a CD. Everytime I start it up I get this message:
+Warning! The registry used by theitunesdrivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes.+
If it helps, I have followed the information is this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5105496&#5105496
...but it still doesn't work. I also checked out this thread on Tech Support guy (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5105496&#5105496) but nothing there works either (although I haven't done the 'Delete SPTD.SYS from the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder.' etc instructions as I don't think I have daemon tools on this PC, unless they snuck in the back door somewhere). I also don't have other 'cd-burning software' - the PC came with a programme called Record Now, but there hasn't been a problem with that before.
I'm not that technical, and don't know why nothing seems to work now. I would be very grateful if anyone can offer some advice, or can point me in the direction of a thread on here that might shed further light on this mystery. I have reinstalled, restarted, uninstalled, rebooted - everything I can think of!
Thank you so much in advance,
    Jayne

    Hello again,
Thank you for posting those links. This is now solved, and I am so happy!
Basically I had to manually delete the gear files from the registry and then reinstall with the latest. Both of these instructions can be found via the links above, should anyone else come to this forum with the same issue. The instructions were clear, even to a novice like me.
Thanks again, Polydorus, for all your help.

  • "The registry setting used by itunes for burning CDs are missing"

Whenever I start up Itunes... I get this error message.
"The registry settings used by the Itunes drivers for importing & burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall Itunes".
Problem is... when I reinstall itunes nothing changes.
I've got Roxio cd-burning software installed on my computer. Is there a conflict with this software?
I can't burn songs from Itunes on to a CD. I haven't tried importing a CD or DVD but I'm guessing that won't work either.
    Any advice??

I was able to repair the problem.
FIRST__REMOVE THE WINDOWS XP MAY 15th Updates!
    1. Go to gear's website and download either the 32
bit or 64 bit beta drivers depending on your
    operating system.
    2. install the drivers.
    3. run regedt32 make the changes as follow. Find
    the
    key:
    [HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\C
    lass\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
Delete any entry for the lowerfilter
the upperfilter entry should be: GEARAspiWDM
    4. reboot your machine and it should work.
    ABIT   Windows XP
    Pro   64 bit windows
What is the address of the website that you have to get to in order to download the beta drivers? I am having the same problem and have also installed and re-installed itunes & quick time more than once. Help!

  • TS3299 Registry settings used by Itunes drivers for buring CDs are missing

So incredibly stuck on this and I have already removed and reinstalled Itunes about 3 times. I kept getting the message that "registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDS are missing. I followed all the instruction and even went to the  Registry Editor and right clicked UpperFilters and was shocked to see that GEARAspiWDM"  was already listed there--so the warning I keep getting that this driver is missing is wrong. Now what? Please help. I do not know how to work around this. Thank you

Can you post a screenshot of the contents of the key you've been editing, please? Include all of the regedit screen, including the left-hand column. Save the screenshot to an image file, and insert the image file in a reply by clicking the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window.
For example, this is what I'm seeing when I look at my key:

  • Every time I open Itunes or plug in my Ipod or Ipad I get an error message that the registery settings for burning cds and dvds are missing and to reinstall Itunes.  i've done this several times but the message won't go away.

Every time I plug my Ipod Nano or Ipad 2 into my computer I get the same error message.  It says that registery settings are missing for importing burning cds and dvds due ot other burning software and to untinstall itunes and reinstall Itunes.  I've done this several times and I'm not having any trouble importing cds at all and I can't make the message go away.  It always comes up before Itunes will open.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Missing registry entries for burning CDs

I used iTunes to burn soe playlists. This worked well. However, I also installed Nero Exprss after that. After this when  I brought up iTunes it gave the message "MIssing registry entries - cannot import or burn CDs or DVDs - reinstall iTunes" Though I was still able to import CDs after that, I cannot burn CDs. The error does not go away even after re-installing iTunes several times (either usiing an Update or after unistalling and doing a fresh install).
How can I fix this problem ?

I have recently had to reinstall ITunes following a computer crash. I am unable to burn to CD - when I start up ITunes I am told that the "registry settings are missing" and am told to reinstall, which I have done without success. I have not loaded any other CD/DVD burning software, and can burn CDs using other programmes. Any ideas? Thank you.

  • CD Revolution for Burning CDs/Dvds

I don't like using disc utility, I follow the directions and it never works correctly to copy a cd. Seems like too much work. So I found CD Revolution, I downloaded the "Trial" version and it won't let me try it. The "Buy Now" thing pops up when the program opens and won't go away. I can't try out the software. Any suggestions? Are they just making you buy it right away now???

    irvineswimgirl,
What kind of "CD" are you trying to burn? Disk Utility is great for burning data CDs and DVDs, but it cannot copy audio CDs. If that's what you're trying to copy, there's your problem.
The tool to use in making backup copies of audio CDs is iTunes. Import the tracks from an audio CD into iTunes, place those tracks in a "Playlist," then burn the Playlist to a new, blank CD. Voila!

  • Missing itune drivers for burning and importing!

I keep getting the message "itune drivers for importing and burning cd & dvd missing". I have reinstalled itunes, but still getting same message. I want to burn cd's, how can I do this?

I've just joined this unfortunate universe. Does this mean that anyone who runs Windows Vista and iTunes now has registry settings conflict, and no longer can burn CD's from iTunes? When I checked with Dell technical support for help on this, the only way they could restore my ability to read CD's in the CD drive was to delete iTunes upper and lower filter settings from the registry. And now, it seems like all in this universe, I've lost ability to burn CD's. As asked above, is this for EVERYONE running Windows & iTunes?

  • Registry settings changed for burning cds

I got the iTunes Assistant message that said the registry setting used by the iTunes drives for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are wrong. I suggested that I reinstall iTunes, so I did.
However, I am still getting the same message and can't figuer out how to get it to work.

    Check out http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2615
Personally, I'd first try reinstalling GEAR. Even though the symptoms are different than described here, this article has the link to reinstalling it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308
