he llo could anyone point me to a good link for the drivers for external tv decoder i bought it second hand but whith no driver software i have windows xp or does somebody know where how much the drivers would cost many thanks mike

stu's been with me the whole way, so he knows my pain! yes, the usb to serial converter was a fine idea until i realized it would not wake up after standby. I tried three different brands, but none would work after standby.
I think I'm finished with this project/disaster at last. It's not pretty, with no cover and fans twist-tied to the side of it, but it seems to be working reliably now (knock on wood). I had to take out a perfectly good tv tuner, but the usb one seems to have solved a battle I was having between MSI Radio and ATI's TV program over the sound drivers, so all's well that ends well.

Drivers for external HDD?

I just got a 500gb 2.5" external USB Store Art HDD. I plugged it into my desktop PC which had XP SP3 loaded. The pop-up tells me that there is new devise. Windows then continues looking for drivers and then says that hardware has not been installed. In Device Manager it shows as "unknown device" and I can not do anything to it.
I've tried it on other computers and they all do the same.

Okay, my problem are solved. This is how the process went on.
Bought drive and tried to use it at work. Only one very short USB cable were in the box so I decided to use an extension cable. This only brought up the "unknown device" problem.
At home I plugged it into the laptop WITHOUT the extension cable and it worked 100%.
Wanted to use iPod at work. Plugged it in WITH the extension cable and it did not work. Removed extension cable and it worked 100%. So I realised it was not operating system but extension cable.
Got a new PC but seeing that USB cable that were supplied with HDD is so short, I decided to use the one that came with my digicam. It did not work. The little light is shining and I can feel the drive spinning so it is getting power but nothing else happened. I saw that the cable was not very secure into the HDD but it was as far as it could go. I used an art knife (Stanley knife) to trimmed back some of the plastic on the plug. It now fits very snug and it works 100% on both home and work PCs.

Reinstalling drivers for external hard drives

Seagate support rep says that I need to reinstall the drivers. He thinks they may have been corrupted.
How can I do this? Do I have to reinstall all system software from CD & them all updates?

Only by reinstalling OS X from scratch or by doing the following. Why did they tell you the drivers needed to be reinstalled?
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

.exe drivers for external hard drives

I just bought a external hard drive case that supposedly supports Macs. However, the driver on the included CD is an 'Autorun.exe' file - there are no included OSX files on the CD. Is there a simple way that I can get this external drive up and running or do I need to run an emulator, like QEMU, and a copy of Windoze? The enclosure is an Eagle/Consus ET-CSWESU2-BK which accepts SATA drives and outputs them thru USB2.0.

I'd just format the drive. (All the .exe will give you is crapware...)
To format it for a Mac, open up Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities), click the drive (as in the orange icon further to the left than others) and now you have two choices.
1. If you want just one partition, click the Erase tab. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and give the thing a name. Then, from Security Options choose any of the choices except the first (the 3rd and 4th will take longer but are better, I recommend the third). Finally click Erase and be patient.
2. If you want partitions, do the above, but choose Free Space instead of Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then go to the Partition tab and do what you want there.

I installed the drivers without a problem on Windows 7 64-bit. However, windows 7 didn't recognize the drivers (either automatically or when manually found). The installer placed them in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\
Of note, the camera does work. Using skype, the camera's LED lit up. However, the generic driver wouldn't allow the camera to "talk" with windows. The aperture opened to the max setting and "whited out" the video. Thanks!!

(1) External iSight is, as you recognize, a Firewire webcam. It has its own built-in microphone.
Built-in iSight is a USB camera. It has no mic of its own.
Windows® video drivers for both iSights are included. However, as explained in the following link, there are no Windows® audio drivers for external (Firewire) iSight’s internal microphones:

I'm trying to source a driver for my external PCMCIA CD-Rom drive for my Toshiba T2130CT Laptop. however I seem to be having problems finding the Panasonic KXLC005 driver
Every site that I've been trying to get it from has some kind of spyware download manager or dodgy exe files, I've just tried installing one on my XP netbook but just spent over an hour removing it with spyware software due to it installing files everywhere and trying to install more and more files.
Does anyone know where I can just download this driver plain and simply in either a zip or rar file.
Or if someone has it to upload to a filesite that would be great too.

In my opinion it is wrong place to search drivers for external non-Toshiba devices but I hope someone will be able to help.
In my opinion you should try to check some Panasonic forum to check if someone knows if Panasonic support has some Archive download page where you can find this old driver.
You can also try to contact Panasonic support in your country. Maybe they can give you tip what you can do. Maybe Panasonic service provider in your country can help. Usually they have access to all databases.

I tried your suggestion, and it's been giving me the message "Preparing for Backup" for the past 8 hours. Does this mean TM is backing up my hard drive? I am wiping my current windows bootcamp partition and reinstalling windows using disk utility /bootcamp wizard to clean up and reinstall.
just curious if the Thunderbolt drivers get installed from bootcamp/windows sofytware update as I can't remember iif i had to do it manually before. I do see it shows up on windows side in device manager and if it is pluggged in during boot screen (to windows 7 pro 64 bit) shows ASMedia drivers being loaded for it.

Drivers for the Apple External Modem in 10.5

Hi all! I recently upgraded my system with Leopard. All seems to be great save for the fact I can't use the external Apple USB modem attached to my Macbook Pro. While I don't fax that much I do sometimes have to use it to receive faxes and such from others. Is there a driver update for this for Leopard? Thanks to all in advance for the help!

The drivers for the Apple USB Modem are already installed along with Leopard..... I'm not sure why its not working.
Try opening up System Preferences - Network, and see if it shows up/if its enabled.
Other than that, I don't see why you should have any problems.

Where would I find the drivers for an external device after I install it?

Okay, so I need help. I installed a driver for osx 10.5 thinking that installing the software 10.7 would support it. If it did, then it created a bigger problem, which is I cannot create a USB Ethernet connection in the networks pane. Mind helping out and telling me what I should do?

you would generally find the drivers for an external device on the manfacturers website. However, with printers for example, I have recieved updates directly through Software Update.
