Hi,
Although it is not clear which OS X version you refer to, the Laserjet 5L is not supported on Mac OS X 10.8:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c03411613
The same also apply for OS X 10.7 and 10.6 as well:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=120&prodSeriesId=...
If you have any of the operating systems mentioned above, although it is not officially supported you may still try the 3rd party HPIJS drivers which compatiblw with any of those latest OS versions and list the Laserjet 5L as supported.
Be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads prior following the Printer Set Up Instructions below:

Best of luck,

  • Mac OS X 10.7 drivers for HP LaserJet 1300: installation at the "Add Printer" process ended, every time, with message "Currently drivers for this printer are UNavailable..."!   PLEASE HELP?

APPLE [see Apple Support's Article HT 3669] says Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) has drivers for this Printer.
But, every time I've tried installing it to my Mac Book Pro (which came with OS X 10.7), it does recognize that the Printer (connected via USB cable) is HP LaserJet 1300 -- in fact, right below, this statement appears: "The drivers for this Printer are available...".  But, when it comes to the actual process of downloading, the "Add Printer" window -- after 20+ minutes of its "searching" for the drivers -- always ends with the message: "Currently drivers for this printer are UNavailable... contact the manufacturer."!!!  (Can you imagine? Apple says it's available... but its own "Add Printer" process says it's UNavailable!)
I went to HP's support site, and it, too, says that drivers for this Printer are available!  -- see the 2 links:

  • Drivers for duplex printing?

does anyone know how to find drivers for duplex printing?

If your printer has the ability to shuffle the pages and print on both sides in one pass, duplexing is in the appropriate Driver for your Printer.
If your printer cannot already do this, you need to do part of it manually, it takes a lot of fiddling, but the key features required are the ability to Print:
    • Odd Pages
    • Even Pages
    • specified pages in reverse order.
Every standard Mac OS X printer Driver supports these already.
Reverse Order is a checkbox on the Layout menu on your "Print" page.
Odd or even or all is an option on the Paper Handling menu in your "Print" page.
For my face-up feeding, face-down delivering Printer, I use a little saying to help me remember:
"First, print to Odd pages evenly  (in normal order) [then shuffle Output to Input for the second side]
Then, print the Even Pages Oddly (in Reverse order) [and if the paper does not jam, fronts and backs will be correct]"
Your procedure will probably be different. I had to draw myself a lot of little diagrams of stacks of paper to figure it all out, and without my little saying, I would have to find that page of drawings (or re-create it from fundamental principles) to be able to print on both sides.

  • Downloaded Canon printer/scanner drivers for Canon PIXMA MP520 and MX860 on Mac Book laptop, and they worked.  However, when I downloaded the same two drivers on Mac Book Air, neither worked.

Downloaded Canon printer/scanner drivers for Canon PIXMA MP520 and MX860 on Mac Book laptop, and they worked.  However, when I downloaded the same two drivers on Mac Book Air, neither worked.

I wasn't aware that VueScan charged a yearly license.
You simply launch Image Capture and if the scanner is recognized it will be listed in the SHARED list in the left display column.  Select the scanner name and the app will start an overview scan.  You will also see a list of scanning options in the right display column (resolution, paper size, file output format, etc.
The above description is when everything is working correctly, which has been the case for me.
    Good luck.

  • Hp photosmart 7150 only prints black and white with mac

My hp photosmart 7150 only prints black and white with mac.  I have tried installing and uninstalling, installing drivers, but no change.

    Hi,
You did not mentioned your Mac OS X version, however I assume you have one of the latest versions.
The Photosmart 7150 is not supported on Mac OS X v10.6, v10.7, v10.8 or v10.9 and therefore it is more than likely that there are no drivers for your OS and the used Generic Driver only provide B&W printing.
Although it is not officially supported you may check 3rd party solutions such as the 3rd party HP-IJS print drivers which list your printer as supported.
Be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads, then click the plus sign under Printers & Scanners, click the Use drop down and click on Select Printer Software.
Search for your printer model form the list and select the driver, I believe that may work:
    http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs
Although it only list up to 10.8 (Mountain Lion) it should also work on Mavericks from my experience.
    Hope that may help,
    Shlomi

  • Does anyone know if I can print to hp photosmart 5510 from my 1st generation ipad if I can't download the drivers for the printer?

Am trying to set up an HP Photosmart printer and it is proving much more complicated than I'd expected. I don't seem to be able to download to my ipad from the HP website - does anyone know how I manage to print, or get my ipad to recognidse the printer, if I've no printer software downloaded?
Thanks, in anticipation, for your help

You can't download drivers, or any other software, via a browser on the iPad. If the printer isn't the HP Photosmart 5510 e-AiO B111a which supports AirPrint, and it also isn't supported by HP's ePrint app, then you can see if any of the third-party printer apps such as Print Central For iPad or Print n Share work with it.

  • Solution for some printer that not working with AE

simple reason, this issue caused by Apple's Bonjour,
it search for wireless printer and installed wrong driver,
simply go to properties of your wireless priter(which conrrected with AE),
    select a correct driver.

Kindly suggest the reason for this behavior,
Any permission should be set in the application to make it work when antivirus is "ON"
A lot of things won't work with "anti-virus" junk installed on a Mac. If you want to run anti-virus software, get a Windows PC to run it on.
Get rid of Symantec and let your Mac work as it's designed to work - without being burdened by useless garbage.

  • Finally upgrading from 10.5 to 10.6; what should I do about drivers for photo printer and Nikon slide scanner?

Finally upgrading to 10.6 from 10.5.8. What do I need to do about drivers for my epson photo printer and nikon slide scanner? May be going all the way to 10.8.

I suggest you determine if compatible drivers are available either in the OS X drivers package or directly from the manufacturer. The following has a link for application compatibility. You can check this, too:
OS X- Printer and scanner software available for download
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $29.00 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Are my applications compatible?

  • Wireless print server that works with Macs and Epson R1800?

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a wireless print server, which I could use as if the printer was connected directly to my Mac. So basically, it just needs to have printing over IP port (like port 9100 on HP JetDirect) and drivers for Mac OS X (or ideally, no special drivers needed at all). Devices that do sharing of the printer only over LPD (older Unix), SMB (Windows), IPP (Cups / newer Unix) or similar protocols is not what I'm looking for here.
The reason why LPD, SMB and IPP are not an option is that I'll need utilities such as Epson Printer Utility to work over the network too.
It looks like Linksys, Belkin and some other have products that allow access to the printer over port 9100 (standard HP JetDiret's port) as if the printer was connected directly to the computer. However, for the most part I was able to find only success stories for Windows users.
Windows has standard driver that allows connection to the printer to be easily switched from USB port to network port. Does OS X comes standard with that feature, or is the special driver needed?
Most importantly, has anybody had success with printing from Mac through wireless print server (any brand) to Epson R1800? Did the Epson Print Utility (checking the ink levels, checking and cleaning the head, etc) work? Any special drivers needed?
    Thanks

direwolf has hit the nail on the head - the Epson driver won't work for IP printing. The Epson driver is a Carbon driver, where they build the comm protocols into the driver instead of enabling use of the standard protocols on OS X (that are part of the CUPS system). You'll need a CUPS driver to use the standard network protocol(s). The printfab driver is a CUPS driver.
Exception - the Apple Extreme/Express/etc print servers have firmware that make them work like Macs - Mac-to-Mac sharing works with USB-only drivers! I hesitate to recommend the Extreme/Express, because Apple can't seem to get all the kinks out.

  • Photosmart C6280 not printing color/both sides with Mac

    Hello HP Community,
I have a Macbook Pro running iOS X 10.9.2 and a AIO Photosmart C6280. I am have downloaded the printing/scanning software and drivers. Everything installed without problem. I have also scanned with no problem. However, no matter what program I am trying to print from on my Macbook, the printer will not print in color and also will not print on both sides - even when the double sided feature is checked off.
I have been to all the discussion forums of relevance and can't find anyone with my same problem. Those that have similar problems, are running different versions of iOS and the steps suggested they take are not possible with this version. Please Help!

    Hello HP_USER,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're unable to print in color from you Mac 10.9.2. I will try to help you with this.
Have you tried making a color copy from the printer? If not please do so, this is to see if the printer is having the issue stand alone.
I would also recommend looking at these documents:
    Missing, Faded, or Dull Colors
    Wrong Colors
As for it not duplexing, according to the User's Guide, this printer doesn't duplex as in it doesn't have a duplexer. If you are manual duplexing that would be slightly different, as it requires you to be flipping the page after the first side has come out. This document can assist you with that: Print on Both Sides of the Paper (Manual Duplexing)
I hope this helps you out, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Can anyone recommend a solid, cheap mono laser printer that will work with Mac OS X?

I'm currently looking for a cheap, no-frills printer. So far, most are incompatible with Mac OS X or are too expensive to buy and run.
    Does anybody have any recommendations?
    Thanks!

I've been interested in this for some time and it all seems rather difficult. I had a Samsung ML-1610 mono laser before I bought my iMac three years ago. It worked fine with a Windows 98 laptop and was cheap and I think a bit of an out of date model then. When I bought the Mac one thing that worried me was - would the printer work? Discovered ML-1610 is not Mac compatible at all (officially). Searching for some time found various suggestions to make it work. The simplest was to download driver for ML-1710 and yes it DID work and still does. I even bought a replacement toner cartridge. Samsung mono laser printers are very good value but seem to be NOT very Mac friendly, even the models that are Mac compatible. It is too risky to get involved with models that are not on the Mac drivers list. Also not too happy about models that have Gutenprint or CUPS drivers. Yes, I believe Brother is quite Mac friendly, don't know how cheap. Mac showrooms don't have cheap mono laser printers, the style just isn't right, but they are great. I would never go back to an inkjet.

  • HP C5380 DVD/CD Printing Feature Not Compatible With Mac

I purchased this all-in-one specifically for the feature of printing direct to cd/dvds. Other functions work fine but this will not. After contacting HP Support I am informed that this feature is not compatible with Mac. Surely this is false advertising as nowhere on the packaging can I find any reference to this. Under specifications it shows that system requirements were Mac OSX 10.5.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? I have searched mac support but can find no reference to this. Interested to hear other viewpoints and experiences.

    Hello,
I would try printing directly on CD/DVD from the application HP Photosmart Studio.. Follow the steps below:
    1. Open HP Photosmart Studio
    2. Select an image from the Photosmart Studio library/browser
    3. Choose "Create" in the toolbar
    4. In the menu on the left, choose the following settings:
    - Project: CD/DVD Label
    - Label Type: CD/DVD (5 inch/120 mm)
    5. Move the image from the media bar to the label, resize it if necessary
    6. Click "Print" on the toolbar
    Regards,

  • Which printer brands work best with Mac?

Well, it sounds like my HP LaserJet 3015 will not duplex with my new Mac (only with PCs, I guess), so I am going to need a new printer. Does anyone have suggestions on which brands of printers work well with the Mac? Thanks in advance...

There are a number of Laserjet 3015 models. Some have automatic duplexing and others do not. If it has duplexing, it should do it whether it is on a Mac or a PC. Make sure you have duplexing and the proper driver for your printer. If you are using a Gutenprint driver instead of the HP driver, you may not have duplexing available. If you click on Options & Supplies in Print & Fax, you will be able to see which driver you are using.
