morning, mr
i have a SUN blade 1500, solaris 9, i attached Fujitsu tape drive 3480/90 M2488C, in adaptec scsi (se) card, but i don see the drive in solaris, the scsi card is good (tested) and Fujitsu tape drive is good (tested).
Please, what i need to do?, what command, patches? i don know wath to do
thank you

Consider using a SCSI card that has been qualified to work in a SPARC-based system.

Adaptec brand cards do not work in that architecture.
They work in PeeCee's.

  • SCSI Tape Drive 599-2081-01: What tapes?

I can find no documentation whatsoever on sun.com for the SCSI Tape Drive 599-2081-01. I'm thinking of buying this tape drive from a friend, but he doesn't know what tapes will work on it.
Will Exabyte 8mm 112metre tapes work, for instance? I already have some of them.
This is to work with an Ultra 10. I doubt an my old Adaptec 2940UW card will work with it... I'll have to get a PCI card that's suitable for Solaris 8.
    Thanks!

I have one of these drives and currently use Exabyte 170m (Mammoth) tapes... they run about 50 bucks
and their part number is 312629...

Once I upgraded to ML, I'm now finding that my Seagate Free Agent external hard drive is no longer being backed up by Time machine.  Do I have to wait for Seagate to update their drivers for this hard drive?

I tried your suggestion, and it's been giving me the message "Preparing for Backup" for the past 8 hours.  Does this mean TM is backing up my hard drive?  I'll give it a few more hours, but if nothing else happens, I'm not sure what else to do.  I'm not sure if there are any new external hard drives that are compatible with ML yet.

  • SCSI auto sense failure when SCSI tape drives are present

I've got a driver based on Sun's old SCSI Solaris 8 bst.c sample that worked fine up until the latest Solaris 10. Now I get a "Check condition with Auto Sensing" failure on all SCSI targets using this driver whenever a SCSI tape drive is present.
Is there a document that describes SCSI driver changes with the latest Solaris 10?

When a failure occurs pkt_r is 0 (command complete), pkt_state has flags 0x17 (which mean xfer didn't happen and STATE_ARQ_DONE didn't happen), but the sts_chk bit is true indicating a check condition.
rqsense option is set, so the driver doesn't attempt to manually retrieve sense data. Should it?
Anyone at Sun want to advise on an OS behavior change that might be linked to this?

  • Support for 4mm tape drives?

I know this probably isn't the best forum for this, but I didn't see any forums for deal with periphrials at all...
At work, we occasionally get some 4mm DDS-3 tapes that we have to read (pretty simple, just use Unix's "dd" command), and the Sun computer we've been using, we're getting ready to retire (for other reasons). HP makes 4mm tape drives (still makes DDS-3's but also DDS-4's and DAT72's), and makes USB and SCSI models. See
    http://h18004.www1.hp.com/storage/tapestorage/datdrives.html
MacOS X has "dd". Macs have USB. A MacMini is cheaper than say a new Sun. But will a MacMini with MacOS X 10.4 be able to use an HP USB based 4mm tape drive? Is it supported? Can I use it with "dd"? Really, I suspect the question is MacOS X specific, and not specific to MacMini's, but again, for lack of an appropriate forum for this question...
If you've used an HP USB based 4mm drive (DDS-3, DDS-4, DAT72) with a Mac, let me know. I've searched Apple's web site for 4mm and came up with nothing related. If this information is out there, it's well hidden.

You might try asking in the Mac OS X 10.4 area. I think you'd be more likely to find someone who knows there, should there be an answer (probably not many mini owners use 4mm tape).
    Good luck.

  • How to add SCSI tape drive card to Hyper -v 2012

    Hi,
It is possible to add HP LTO tape drive through SCSI connector in Windows server 2012 core installation standard edition.
    Regards,
    Shahul Hameed

Are you referring to Windows Server 2012 or Hyper-V 2012?  Big difference.
With Hyper-V 2012, you only have the Hyper-V role, no other roles. With Windows Server 2012 you should be able to do it, if the HP drivers allow you to install without a GUI, or you may want to install the tape drivers with the GUI and then remove the GUI
to go back to a "core" install.
You cannot connect or pass-through a tape drive to a Hyper-V VM, regardless of the host.

  • St.conf parameters for SDLT tape drive / Solaris 8

    Hello,
I need the parameters for the SDLT tape drive from Tandberg for the st kernel driver. In the st.conf there is no entry for Tandberg SDLT.
With the st.conf, shipped with Solaris 8 10/01, my V880 crashes when accessing the SDLT with the mt command.
Does anyone here have the parameters?

    Hi Thomas,
Actually, a bug 4495684 has been filed to fix this issue. A 2.6, 7,
8 and SOlaris 9 patch should come out soon that will add this entry
    in the st.conf.
I constructed this entries from the bug description. Try if it works.
It should else wait for the patch. Any way, please let me know
    the results.

  • No dev naming for SCSI DVD drive? [solved]

I've been trying for sometime to find the udev conversion for the SCSI CD/DVD drive I have.
    'dvd' doesn't exist
    hdc is taken
sda1 is taken by the root hard drive
sda2 is taken by the swap file
If I put /dev/sd in fstab, then try mount /mnt/cd2 (which is a valid mount point), it says special device 'sd' doesn't exist.
I guess I could always stick to the old name, but then it wouldn't be udev, would it?  It works by the old name.
I haven't tried it yet, but the only thing I found closest was:
    /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target2/lun0/
except the actual lun is 2 on the DVD drive's controller, but I think the kernel is using target2 as the lun, and lun0 is what the drive is according to it not being chained.  target0 seems to be related to my SCSI hard drive.
    Thanks in advance.

mount: special device /dev/sdb does not exist
sorry about that, I thought about that too, but I didn't mention it because I was browsing the /dev/ directory and noticed it wasn't listed there.
I guess it would help to list my configuration, because there's probably an even more obvious reason for it, but I"m not sure.
Adaptec 29160N PCI card, has 68-pin and 50-pin connector.  The hdd and DVD drive are both connected to this controller card but to their according connector directly to the board.  They both come up in the bios screen with the HDD as LUN0 and DVD drive as LUN2.  The dvd drive works so far only if specified as /dev/cdroms/cdrom1.
I'm sure this is nit-picking, but I'm just concerned it might translate into a problem down the road.  If it's not an issue, just tell me.  LOL.
    update
Latest issue:  I noticed today that my Arch kernel says 2.6.12-ARCH (shouldn't it be X.X.X-SCSI?), and also my /dev path has dumped a ton of useless references, and also added an scd0 reference (which I'm wondering if this might be my SCSI drive?)....*edit again, wait, finally there's dvd and dvd1, I bet dvd is the IDE burner, and dvd1 is the SCSI dvd drive.  Hmmmm...  I'll try changing these in the media file and fstab and report back.
    *edit [still working on it]
Yes, uh, it appears to be scd0.  Where did this come from?   I know it wasn't there before, and neither was dvd or dvd1.  Which, as suspected, dvd1 and scd0 are both linked to the SCSI DVD drive.   :?:
    update:
I tend to think the difference was between using hotplug and lshwd since it was recently I switched to lshwd.  I also optimized pacman (pacman-optimize), but I wouldn't think that has anything to do with it.

  • HT1727 how do you get the drivers for a dvd drive

since upgrading to windows 8. I have lost my dvd drive.
Cannot use the drive for either running a cd or writing one.

This has nothing to do with iTunes.
If you need drivers for hardware in your computer, contact the manufacturer of the computer or the specific hardware piece.

  • Sony SDT-9000 scsi tape drive under udev

I've installed Arch .7 and have updated the system with pacman.  I set up the system to use udev.
I have an Adaptec AHA-7850 scsi card with a Sony SDT-9000 tape drive attached as the only scsi device.
When I check out /dev, there is an sg0 device, but no tape, st0, nst0, etc.  dmesg shows the tape drive identified at boot, and cat /proc/scsi/scsi also shows it.
I can't use mt on the sg0 device, and I'm not sure if that is my controller or my tape drive, and if the tape drive, how I gain access to it.
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, I figured it out.  I was using kernel26-scsi, but didn't realize I still needed to load the scsi tape module (st) into rc.conf.  Did that, now it works.

  • Need generic drivers for firewire zip drive which won't mount in OS 10.3.9

I purchased an external Archos firewire zip drive which worked fine with my G4 in OS 9.2. Once I upgraded to OS 10.3.9, it stopped working consistently. Sometimes if I restart the computer, the zip drive mounts, but most of the time, it doesn't. When I contacted Archos, they said that they do not support OSX. Are there any generic drivers available that might help me? Any other ideas? Please help!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    jhps:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If Archose says they don't support OS X it sounds like you are stuck with running your zip drive in OS 9. There may be generic drives, but I am not aware of any. Maybe someone else might.
You may want to post in the Using Mac OS X Forum where there may be folk who have suggestions for you.
    Good luck.

  • Reinstalling drivers for external hard drives

Seagate support rep says that I need to reinstall the drivers. He thinks they may have been corrupted.
How can I do this? Do I have to reinstall all system software from CD & them all updates?

Only by reinstalling OS X from scratch or by doing the following. Why did they tell you the drivers needed to be reinstalled?
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Do I need to install drivers for a sata drive?

I have K7N2 Delta2-LSR and it came with a sata raid driver floppy disk.  Mine is just a single drive on which I want to install Windows. I read some where that it is not needed during windows installation unless I want to setup a raid system. Is this correct? My sata drive shows up under the external device icon, the small green arrow icon on the system tray. Is it suppose to be like that or is it because I did not install the sata drivers during windows installation? Any advice please?

What brand and model of SATA drive are you using? I had two other posts on this issue because one model of Maxtor drive that I tried works fine and another model does not work at all.
My configuration is like yours, I currently only have one SATA hard drive connected to this machine. There are multiple PATA drives on the machine and they all work fine together.
Seeing your post made me do more research on my motherboard. Until now, I thought the SATA controller on this board was not capable of RAID. I know know it is, thank you silverferro and Stu

  • .exe drivers for external hard drives

I just bought a external hard drive case that supposedly supports Macs. However, the driver on the included CD is an 'Autorun.exe' file - there are no included OSX files on the CD. Is there a simple way that I can get this external drive up and running or do I need to run an emulator, like QEMU, and a copy of Windoze? The enclosure is an Eagle/Consus ET-CSWESU2-BK which accepts SATA drives and outputs them thru USB2.0.

I'd just format the drive. (All the .exe will give you is crapware...)
To format it for a Mac, open up Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities), click the drive (as in the orange icon further to the left than others) and now you have two choices.
    1. If you want just one partition, click the Erase tab. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and give the thing a name. Then, from Security Options choose any of the choices except the first (the 3rd and 4th will take longer but are better, I recommend the third). Finally click Erase and be patient.
    2. If you want partitions, do the above, but choose Free Space instead of Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then go to the Partition tab and do what you want there.
