Drivers for T420, T420S, T430S and other musings...

First time poster here!  Thanks!  I like the Thinkpad series, but I do have some questions.
Drivers for T420, T420S, T430S...The drivers page for these models is confusing. We overwrite the image that comes factory for our thinkpads.  So when I load Windows 7 there's still obviously a handfull of drivers you still need as well as maybe  some of the options from Lenovo that "improves" functionality.
The confusion for me is around the network cards, wireless...LAN.  The problem we have currently is that the previous image we made/deployed for our laptops contained a mix of conflicting drivers for wireless.  I think I have it fixed on the new image but I want to make absolutely sure we're cool.  We have a mix of both LAN, wireless LAN, and wireless WAN users that we support.  At any rate, what might help is a list of all the specific drivers I need based on my full model number.  Any takers out there for this one?  I doubt this sort of list exists on their website.  When I visit the Lenovo drivers page and search for and click on the link for my full model, i.e. T420s-xxxx, I get a multitude of networking driver options!
Also just curious, what are some of the non essential software from lenovo that you guys like on your systems?  I hesitate to download it all but I think the Thinkconnections piece works very well for wireless to LAN switching...

I understand what you're saying.  But when i type in the T420S-4171, there are mutliple network drivers.  Are you telling me from top to bottom you download and install every single driver?
Sorry i wasn't clear, i meant the type, e.g. for my T420s its 4174-bz7. This brings up the configuration of your machine and a list of drivers for your specific hardware. You then choose based on your hardware - for some things e.g. WWAN there might be multiple hardware so you choose yours. You can check device manager if you are unsure.
The Type is on the sticker at the bottom of the laptop. See here for locating it: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/basic.page?DocID=HF002641

I wasn't aware that VueScan charged a yearly license.
You simply launch Image Capture and if the scanner is recognized it will be listed in the SHARED list in the left display column.  Select the scanner name and the app will start an overview scan.  You will also see a list of scanning options in the right display column (resolution, paper size, file output format, etc.
The above description is when everything is working correctly, which has been the case for me.
    Good luck.

  • Drivers for hp photosmart d5360 and laserjet 4000 in windows 7,needed

i need the drivers for  hp photosmart d5360 and laserjet 4000  in windows 7
i have install windows 7 ver 7260 and everything was working fine,,then i have updated to ver 7600
and now my computer does not want to install the drivers,,
any ideas why is not working?
    thanks

It does not matter how we got Windows 7 RTM (7600). But if you have to know to answer the questions about drivers, then MSDN Subscribers and Technet Subscribers can download Windows 7 RTM as of August 7. I also have Windows 7 RTM and I now cannot install the HP Laserjet 4000N printer. It used to work with Windows 7 RC but now not with RTM. My printer is located on a Windows Server 2008 based computer. It properly browses and I I can select it from the server list of printers. But it then tells me that I dont have a driver. Where can we get a driver? HP will have the Windows 7 RTM version as well for their driver support.

How can I stop my iphone 4s from asking for my icloud, yahoo and other passwords all the time?

As long as you share that AppleID for iCloud, you cannot.  You are sharing a a single iCloud account and sync services.  The only thing you can do is get a second AppleID and use it with iCloud - you do not have to use that new AppleID for anything but iCloud (ie. you can still share an AppleID for iTunes and App store purchases).
P.S. I am assuming you both want to sync your contacts with iCloud?

  • A fast automatic tag fixer for owners of Zen and other tag based players

Fast automatic tag fixer for owners of Zen and other tag based players.
I've written a simple freeware utility for fixing mp3 tag discrepancies. It is intended for use before uploading a bunch of albums to a tag-only media player. There's like a million of such programs out there, but this one is based on my exprience with the Creative Zen player, so it could be useful for fellow owners of the device.
First, the utility scans mp3 album folder tree looking for tag inconsistencies and suggesting corrections. After that you can review (and cancel/modify if needed) the corrections and apply the changes.
The detected tag errors can be corrected either manually or semi-automatically with the integrated Discogs search. There's a tuneable compilation processing feature, which helps keep compilation albums in one piece on your player.
You can check the utility out here http://taghycardia.narod.ru/english.html
    Feature suggestions, bug reports welcomed.

The free program has been vastly updated since the last post.
Now, it can find and embed cover art for mp3 albums automatically, or it can do the opposite, remove cover images from mp3 files if you need to save space on your player or mobile device. In addition, there is an ability to correct wrong track order automatically and get exact tracklists from Discogs.
The URL is updated, too: http://taghycardia.info

  • Need the AD Link cable for SB X-Fi and other models. Anyone have an unneeded one?

Need the AD Link cable for SB X-Fi and other models. Creative is out of stock & discontinued. Anyone have an unneeded one? TIA.

This will do it perfectly. http://www.cableyourworld.com/prodde...?prod=CYW-1755
I once swapped such a cable with the one supplied by Creative because I needed a few extra inches of length. Therefore my recommendation is no gamble, it is a certainty. The only reason I would anticipate failure is if the PIN 1 matching is not performed on both the sound card and I/O bay. I have also seen people turn the cable upside down as well.

Hi, I would like to assist you on this matter, however I would need some information from you first.  I see that you are running windows 8. What is the make and model number of the computer that you are using?  The windows 8 that you are using, is it a 32 bit or a 64 bit operating system?  Please write back and I will be happy to do research on this issue.

  • Drivers for Windows Server 2008 and HDD issues

Recently I have had the hard drive with my OS fail. After replacing the hard drive and reinstalling windows server 2008 I seem to have run into a few issues with drivers.  After insalling Windows, I had 3 items in my device manager that did not install properly. I was able to get the driver for the LAN port to work but I have not gotten the driver for "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and "SM Bus Controller". After a little research, I believe the video card is a Radeon HD4350. With that information I still have been unable toinstlal the correct drivers for either of these items. I've tried several drivers listed on the drivers support page on HP's website but all fo them return the same error about not finding the correct Operating System. The link to the driver I used originally on my previous installation seems to not be valid any longer.
Also I can't seem to access the two additoinal hard drives (connected by sata). They were used with the previous installation of windows with no issues. They appear in the device manager but do not show up under My Computer. A removeable drive does show up that I'm not sure what it is. Previously I had used software to mirror one of the drives onto the other as to prevent losing data if a drive would fail. Is one of the above drives causing the issue with not being able to access the drives or did the software used before cause the problem?
Any help on these issues is greatly appreciated.
    This question was solved.

    OK.
I can't help you with the drives then.  That is out of my realm of knowledge.  If they are marked healthy and active in the disk management utility, then that is all I know that they should be indicated.
    As for the graphics driver...
Download and install this free file utility.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file and select 7-zip from the list of options.
Select 7-zip to Extract to: and let it extract the file into a folder.  I let it extract to the file name of the folder.
Then just follow the rest of my instructions to install the driver.
Of course you will first browse to where 7-zip has extracted the folder to, and proceed from there.

For the wireless card driver please do this...
Go to the Device Manager and click on the Network Controller device.
At the top of the Network Controller window, click on the Details tab.
Now you see a Property drop down list that is defaulted to Device Description.
Drop down on that and select the second item (Hardware ID's).
Now you see 3-4 lines of characters, the top line starting with PCI\VEN.
Post that top line of characters.

  • Labview drivers for Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter and Lakeshore DR-91C temp controller

    Hi,
I am looking for labview GPIB drivers for the following instruments.
    1. Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter
    2. Lakeshore DR-91C temperature controller
I will greatly appreciate information about the above.
    Sincerely,
    A.V. Mahajan

    Hello,
I just searched the web for both of these and was unable to find anything...I found a CVI driver for the Keithley 181 on the NI website, but I doubt it would be a simple conversion with the "Convert CVI Instrument Driver" utility in LabVIEW...it certainly wouldn't hurt to try, however. Anyway, I guess about the only option you have at this point is to contact the manufacturers of those devices and see if they have any un-published drivers...perhaps they're not supported, but it's better than nothing.
Good luck in your search. Have a good day.

You must install the Windows Support software. This support software contains the Windows drivers for your hardware. Since you are running Snow Leopard, the support software is on the Snow Leopard installation disk.

  • Windows 7 RTM drivers for sound control buttons and quick launch buttons on TX2

In the past two days this forum has helped me find several drivers for the TX2-1027CA tablet. Now I'd like to try to get two more - and I expect this will be more difficult to find, but here goes....
Is there a driver for the sound buttons (sound down, sound up, and mute) on the body of the tablet? Currently, with no driver, it has no effect to push them.
Is there a driver for the quick launch buttons (mediasmart, screen orientation, and so on) on the screen of the tablet? Pushing these also has no effect. Even better would be drivers that allow me to assign my own program choices, but I'll settle for the basic original functions.
Looking forward to any links as this software appears!

Hi Daniel. You seem to know what you're talking about, so perhaps you can help me.  I bought my Pavilion dv7-1260us a mere 5 weeks before HP began offering its Windows 7 upgrade offer. Consequently, I had to purchase a retail version to upgrade. Now, I cannot reinstall the original programs and features my laptop came with (specifically, the MediaSmart soft-touch button above my keyboard will not work, and I've lost the Cyberlink DVD Suite 6 program entirely).
Do you happen to know how I may reinstall the Cyberlink DVD Suite 6 program and get my MediaSmart soft-touch key to work again? No one at HP Customer Care (including their Case Managers) can help. When I contacted Cyberlink, they told me I had to contact HP (vicious circle there), OR I have to purchase the program ($120 I don't have).  I bought my laptop for school, and had to upgrade to Windows 7 because Vista Home Premium kept crashing (usually right in the middle of an online exam).
I would really like to have ALL of the programs and features working properly, but HP Customer Care will not help me unless I revert back to the unstable Vista Home Premium.
I greatly appreciate your assistance and hope you have a solution for me.

  • ITunes Fix for Manually Moving Music and other Media

    Intro
Any iTunes 7.x user who manages their own music library outside of the "iTunes Music" folder might be able to tell you that iTunes DOES NOT respond well after manually moving tracks from one place to another on their computer systems. In fact, any file you move becomes immediately unplayable in iTunes. And, if you're anything like I am, losing several years worth of song rating metadata and playlists is not a good incentive for change. However, one thing others might not be able to tell you is that there's an easy workaround for the problem and you get to keep your playlists, ratings and other info. Read on to learn about the workaround.
    About the Workaround
The workaround is a simple hack I devised after recently transferring a good portion of my music library between hard disks and running into problems with iTunes. The fix steps provided below are intended to circumvent the problems with iTunes and give users the freedom to move songs and other media files on their computers while maintaining the integrity of both the ratings and the playlists. Meaning you won't need to manually update the song locations in iTunes one-at-a-time, which, at version 7.02 is the only way to accomplish this task using the program.
Please be aware that not all information is retained using this workaround. What will be lost are the following: the "Recently Added", "Recently Played" and "Top 25 Most Played" iTunes Smart Playlists; any media file play counts; last played information; and possibly some other data used only internally by iTunes.
So, if you're comfortable parting with some metadata while keeping your cherished song ratings and playlists intact during file relocation, read on to learn how to use the workaround.
    Workaround Steps
The following instructions walk step-by-step through the process of this workaround.
Note: All backslashes used in file paths have been converted to forward slashes so that they will adhere with MySpace XSS security validation checks. These altered paths can still be copy/paste into Windows Vista's Explorer program once the Username is changed to the User Account where the iTunes files reside.
    Preparing for the Move
Before you move your files, do the following:
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Create a backup copy of the following files:
iTunes Library XML (iTunes Music Library.xml)
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl)
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Moving Your Files
This part should be self explanatory, but while you do it make sure to note the following two things:
    1. The path where the files were previously stored (e.g. D:/Music).
    2. The path where the files will end up (e.g. E:/Music).
    Execute the Fix
After your files are moved, complete the following steps to implement the fix.
Note: Do not open iTunes during this process.
    Hack the iTunes Library XML
Once the files are moved the Library XML file locations will be out of sync. Follow the steps below to update them so that they now reference the correct file locations.
    1. Open the iTunes Library XML with a Text Editor with a Find/Replace function.
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Tip: Do not try to do this with Dreamweaver if your Library XML is greater than 10MB.
    2. Perform a Find/Replace using the following inputs:
Find: Path from Step 1 of Moving Your Files
Replace: Path from Step 2 of Moving Your Files
    3. Confirm your results, and then save and close the Library XML.
    Delete the iTunes Music Database
Hacking the iTunes Library isn't enough to fool iTunes. Like the Library XML, the Music Database also holds the file locations of all of the media stored within the program. And it's smart enough to wipe out the Library XML hack if iTunes is opened before completing this step.
Ensure you have backed up the iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl) and delete the file.
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Back in iTunes
Once the fix is in place you can now open iTunes again. You will notice that all of your playlists, music and other items have vanished. In order to recover them all (with the exception of the Smart Playlists mentioned in the About the Workaround section above) we'll need to import the hacked Library XML file back into iTunes.
    1. Open iTunes and press CtrlShiftO or go to File > Import…
    2. Navigate to and Open your modified Library XML (as pictured below).
    3. iTunes will then begin importing the contents of the XML file (as pictured below).
Note: This process may take a while, depending on the size if your library.
    Wrapping Up
Once the import process is complete iTunes will look almost exactly the way you left it, with the exception that some playlists have been duplicated and the number of songs may be a hair off. To fix this problem delete any duplicate playlists in the "Library" panel in iTunes. You can now test out the changes by selecting an item moved earlier and testing it out. All that's left from there is to let iTunes perform any automated analysis it needs to do and rock on.
      Other OS

    Holy Smokes:
I appreciate your detailed workaround post. My question is this: I use iTunes to keep everything organized (though I'm well aware of the shortcomings...) and can use the simple solution that Chris from CA posted, but I don't have room to consolidate everything. My read on consolidating is that you copy from wherever you have your music located (and right now my music is outside of the MyMusic/iTunes folder, as that backs up to my work server) and so you have to have enough room for all of your music to be copied (and then you delete it from its prior location). That's how Apple describes it in, e.g., http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748. I ain't go that kind of room. Is there any way to make the move to a completely different PC by following the simple option? From the posting I just linked it sounds like you MUST consolidate whether you use you iPod to move things or use an external drive.
Of course, I can use your workaround, but I thought I'd ask first. Many thanks.
