  • HP Envy DV7 7332ea not recognising second internal drive

I recently bought this laptop and the first thing I did was swap the 1tb hard drive for a 240gb Samsung 840 SSD drive. The performance increase was astonishing and I'm very happy with it.
Because the SSD is considerably smaller than the original hard disk, I decided to add another SSD drive (120gb) into the second bay. I ordered the mounting kit and cable and installed the drive.
When I boot the laptop up, all works well but it refused to acknowledge that the second 120gb drive was installed. It does not display in disk management or device management etc.
If I connect it via usb the drive shows up - I'm able to partition and format it fine - but whenever its connected in the second bay it just won't appear.
I tried connecting the original 1tb drive via usb and again that shows up ok. Once I put that in the second bay, it doesn't show up either.
Next, I disconnected the primary 240gb drive (in bay 1) and started the laptop up using the original 1tb hard disk which was in the second drive bay but which is now connected to the main 'socket' which the 240gb primary ssd has been using. It booted up and worked fine.
I then unplugged it from the main socket and plugged it into the secondary socket (which drive two is supposed to connect to). It also booted up and worked fine.
    So, I know that:
    (a) both the original 1tb hard disk and the new 120gb SSD drive are working.
    (b) both the primary and secondary 'sockets' for the drive cables are working.
    (c) as soon as I connect any second drive via the secondary socket, once the machine has booted up via the primary socket, no drive is recognised at all. I can't select to partition it, reformat it etc since there is nothing showing it as connected but not available. It just isn't there.
I can't think of anything else I can try to get it working; does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to get the second drive at least recognised by the system?
Specs are: Windows 8, HP ENVY dv7-7332ea Notebook PC (D0X36EA), 16bg Ram, Samsung 840 SSD drive (240gb) being used as the boot drive, Samsung 840 (120gb) drive the one which is being installed as a second drive).
All latest drivers for the Samsung drives installed etc.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi,
There is no need for two solid state drives on a laptop. I suggest to have the Samsung PRO 240GB as the primary drive and the original 1TB HDD as a data storage in the secondary hdd compartment. The thing is that you need a fast system which is the SSD but data (multimedia, work, anything) is better to store on a common hard drive.
The other problem with not recognizing a drive in the secondary bay might be related to an issue when the secondary drive has to be added to the system. It means that you will have to delete/format the drive you want to use as the secondary drive with the Samsung and add it to the system using this:

  • HP Envy dv7 - No Audio When Connected to TV by HDMI Cable; Windows 8.1

I know this is one that has been floating around the forums for a while but I have not been able to find anything that works in my situation. When I connect my laptop to my TV (Panasonic Viera Plasma) via an HDMI cable, I can get the video to show on the TV fine but there is no audio on the TV; it comes out of the laptop. I have tried everything I can think of including deleting the drivers then reinstalling them, updating them, rolling them back, etc., etc., etc.
Here are the specs on my laptop:
    HP ENVY dv7 Notebook PC
    Windows 8.1 64-bit, 8GB RAM
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Intel(R) Display Audio (with Beats Audio)
    IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Also, here is a snapshot of the Playback Devices:
As you can see, I have nothing which says "HDMI". I have gotten quite frustrated with not being able to get this to work. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.
    Alex...

This is one of the BIGGEST reasons why I would want to take my PC and chuck it into the nearest heavily traveled lane of traffic and watch it get completely destroyed by any vehicle that runs over it then go buy a MAC. The idiocy involved in doing such a simple task is revolting.
FIrstly, and in no way am I directing my ire at you specifically, I have already performed almost everything you have listed for me to try... PREVIOUS to me posting this cry for help.
Secondly, I included a screen shot of the sound devices in my first post and indicated that my display driver/device is  Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000. Beyond that, I don't know what you are looking for.
Thirdly, and most frustrating, the document you told me to "follow every single word of instruction" (which I have previously done) doesn't even tell me to connect the laptop to the TV. It talks about the different kinds of connections but never actually TELLS me to connect the laptop to the TV and WHEN to do it.
When I connected my laptop to my TV for the first time it never tried to load ANY drivers. HOWEVER, it does show "PANASONIC TV" (the brand of my TV) and the monitor type in the resolution dialog. But it also show no other type of monitor.
The biggest issue I can see is that there is NO DRIVER LISTED FOR THE HDTV AUDIO in the sound devices. Therefore how could it transmit audio via the HDMI cable since it doesn't seem to even recognize it?
I am at my wits end. And I have NO INTENTION OF PAYING SOMEONE TO MAKE THIS WORK!!!! There is NO reason why it should not work upon conection of the HDMI cable.
What the hell is wrong with HP (or any other PC manufacturer - and Microsoft, as well) when the simple task of connecting a laptop to a TV is so complex and convoluted. And, by the way, I am an electrical engineer with multiple degrees... And this doesn't make sense to me!!! For pity's sake, can someone please give me a simple solution to what should be a simple issue??!!

  • Envy dv7-7212nr and Windows 7 64Bit

Just finished downgrading Envy dv7-7212nr from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit.  Below is the list of drivers and software paks needed to get everything working.
Hope this helps any of you having issues with wireless or fingerprint drivers.  All function buttons and on/off buttons working as they should.  You may need additional software if you changed your boot drive to SSD or if you change the wirless card as I did.  Currently running an Intel SSD and Intel 7260 dual band wireless card.
Caveat:  I have tried every combination of BIOS setting and boot possibilities to try to get Win7 to install in UEFI mode with no luck.  Tried Microsofts boot procedure, rufus installer, installing from DVD, installing from USB.  No luck.  It gets through the boot and at the Windows opening screen with the floating squares merging together, it hangs.  That's as far as it gets.  Only success has been installing in Legacy mode.  If anyone has a solution to this... I would be happy to listen.
Like I said... running fine in Legacy mode.
All of these upgrades were run AFTER all updates from Microsoft Windows Update were installed.  You can then look for updates from this point on after doing the below installs.
All done with a clean install on a bare SSD using the Win7 iso files available from Microsoft web site.
Anyway... the drivers and sofpac installers below all work:
Intel Driver Update Utility Installer - avail at Intel site
Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller 1.0.101.255- avail at Intel site
    sp64959 - Intel chipset driver
    sp59653 - Realtek PCIE Controller
    sp62291 - HP Support Assistant
sp63599 - UEFI Support Environment Diagnostics
    sp64144 - 3D Drive guard
    sp64205 - Intel My WiFi
    sp64740 - Cyberlink Power 2 Go Software
sp64854 - Cyberlink Media Suite Software
    sp64958 - IDT Audio Driver
sp64961 - Intel Management Engine Interface
sp64963 - Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
sp64966 - nVidia High Definition Video driver
    sp64969 - Realtek Card Reader
sp64968 - Realtek Local Area Network Driver
    sp65424 - HP Cool Sense
    sp65790 - Cyberlink LabelPrint Software
    sp65795 - Cyberlink YouCam Software
    sp65796 - Cyberlink PowerDVD Software
    sp66111 - Synaptics Touchpad
    sp67075 - Validity FingerPrint Driver
sp61399 - SimplePass Fingerprint Security Software
Hope this is a help to some of you.  Machine runs great in Legacy mode with Win7 and these installs.
Again... if anyone has success in installing and setting up in UEFI mode - I sure would appreciate some detailed step by step instructions.
    Thanks again!

  • How to disable touchpad when usb mouse in on HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏ using Windows 7

I would like to have my touch pad disabled when using my USB mouse or otherwise be able to manually disable it.  It is a pain to use when typing with the touch pad enabled but I would like to use the touch pad on occasions such as when I am traveling or if my mouse goes out. Not to mention, I would need to re-enable the touh pad if for some reason I have no mouse (keyboard shortcut?)
I am using windows 7 on my HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏

This is what it looks like.
You should consider returning you notebook to the Windows 8 OS. There are many new features that it has that Windows 7 never did. Download use the free open source software called classic shell to give yourself a start button in Windows 8 that even has more features than Windows 7 start buton does. Once you use Windows 8 for a while you will enjoy it, especially the refresh feature and lower memory use.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Windows 7 drivers.

  • How can I activate my HP TrueVision webcam (HP Envy dv7; Windows 8)

I'm really losing my patience here. My laptop is brand new. I remember the first time I started it I clicked on CyberLink YouCam and the camera worked. I even took a picture with it.
Since then I am trying to activate the webcam and it is not working. I wanted to Videochat on Skype but the webcam was not activated so there was no webcam option.
I read that if you go on Facebook and click on "Change Profile Picture" and then "Take Picture" it activates the webcam, but not in my case.
When I start CyberLink YouCam it says that there was no webcam found and if I have to activate it if I have one.
So here is my question: How do I activate the webcam? Please, just give me the instructions on how that works. What button combination I have to press or whatever.
I have the HP Envy dv7-7202eg with Windows 8. Bought and used in Austria, if that information makes a difference :-)
    This question was solved.

If the webcam worked before, it may be "stuck".  If that is the case, then a Reset may kick it all free and you will be "back in business" in a couple of minutes.  If the Reset does not fix it, there are a few more options.  Stop when it works.
At the bottom is a Help Guide that goes over the testing and options that you have available from the software side to help you solve the problem.
This is a brand new system; if all else fails, please do call HP and ask for help!  Just because the webcam worked before does not mean it works now.  These little webcams are delicate and they can break - the wires are tiny and they can be crushed, bent, or broken at any time.  If the stubborn webcam won't work, Call HP and ask for help.  Something may have been missed or the little beast may be broken!

  • New Envy dv7 with Windows 8 is unable to open DVDs

I have a brand new Envy dv7 with Windows 8. Put my printer DVD in the drive to install the software. While a drive is shown in Explorer, the title is not displayed and trying to open the DVD results in an error message saying the disc might be corrupt. I torks just fine in my Compaq Windows 7 machine. The "eject" menu function does not eject the CD, but  does cause my external hard drive's activity light to go on. Interestingly, when I use the taskbar hardware eject, it shows both the DVD and the external hard drive on the same device.

Tried a solution mentioned for Windows 7 but using the Win 8 version (CDDVDWinDiag), which found the drive, fixed some class problems, and then said it could not read the media. Nevertheless, I was able to read the media fine after that. However, after using right click eject, the drive again disappeared from the system. Running the utility again, re-found the drive, but as soon as one ejects the DVD, the drive disappears again.

OK. Sorry to hear that you didn't make a recovery disk set or usb recovery media.
That means , unfortunately, in your case, that either purchasing a set from HP or sending it  for hard disk reimaging are your least expensive options.
It would be good idea to purchase a recovery disk set or ask if an HP rcovery media usb flash disk is available for your notebook.  At least that way you wouldn't be dependent on someone else repairing your PC. You could do it yourself after reading a tutorial or watching a video on using the recovery media.

  • HP Envy dv7 - Windows 8.1 upgrade consistently fails

I have been trying for several weeks to upgrade my Envy dv7 laptop, and after spending several hours it eventually fails, popping up a message about failure 0xC1900101 - 0x40017. I am then forced to wait an extended time for this upgrade process to restore my previous version. As a result of this exercise I lose my laptop for 6-8 hours. Apart from the above message no useful information about exactly what failed is presented, which is infuriating because if I knew what was clobbering the upgrade I might be able to fix it - this laptop is rich with development tools and upgrades which might not be installed on a typical laptop, so I presume one of those might be causing problems. However all service packs and updates have been installed and unless Microsoft tell me what is causing the failure then I have zero chance of upgrading. The upgrade process goes thru a reboot and then a lengthy period with a 'Setting up' message gradually climbing to 100%. The failure occurs late in the process of 'Saving PC configuration'. From the appearance it looks as though the upgrade goes 99% of the way before failing.

I tried, and once again suffered an epic fail. I just wasted another 5 hours. The upgrade process went all the way through, then a failure was detected on boot up. It tried again, same result, so without giving me any choice it automatically installed my previous operating system. Then on boot up it shoved a big message in my face telling me how sorry they were that the upgrade failed. This is absolutely infuriating. I consider this upgrade process to be a monumental failure by Microsoft. Not because of the failure itself because I can accept things do fail - but of the complete lack of information provided about what caused the failure. Microsoft are not giving me any chance of being able to resolve this issue by understanding what is causing these failures. All I get is unhelpful messages saying FAILED. Why is it so difficult for the upgrade process to record a log file as it goes thru the process? What p's me off is that my Windows 8 continually pesters me to upgrade to Windows 8.1. When I try, it fails- treating me like the village idiot by withholding information about what is causing the failure. I've no idea why Microsoft would want to withhold such information. So far I have tried 3 times to do this upgrade, and probably spent the best part of 24 hours not being able to use my laptop whilst Microsoft's hopeless operating system upgrade fails. I now have a very expensive HP laptop which will shortly become a brick due to my not being able to upgrade the operating system - in due course Microsoft will withdraw support for Windows 8 and I won't be able to do any upgrades. Very unhappy user here.

  • Certain keys not working envy dv7-7304tx

My keyboard will occasionally lose the ability to register certain keys when pressed. In particular, the top row of number keys will frequently stop working. For instance, at the moment the five, six and dash will not work, and fifteen minutes ago none of the numbers in the top row would. The right-side number pad also will occasionally not work. After a short time everything will work again normally, but it happens pretty frequently and can be very frustrating if you need some work done in a hurry.
As I write this, I've tried the 5 and 6 keys and they're working now, but when I started to write it they would not. Has someone else had similar issues? Is it the hardware or something I can address myself?

  • Is it possible to upgrade/add a graphics card to a Hp Envy dv7 dv7-7243cl laptop

I've been doing a lot of research lately, to mostly no avail, about whether or not my HP Envy dv7 dv7-7243c laptop can have a dedicated GPU added to it, as currently it only has the integrated Intel HD 4000 Mobile graphics card.
Mostly I've come across the unfortunate agreement that most laptops cannot have their graphics cards upgraded/swapped out, since the graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard. However, after talking to an HP "support representative", they said they believed it was possible to add a graphics card, as long as it is compatible with the  Motherboard my computer has.
Furthermore, after finding the maitenence and service manual online for my computer ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf ) it says that it could have come with switchable graphics, specifically the Nvidia Geforce 630M or 650M.
So I am wondering, is it really at all possible to add a dedicated graphics card, either by having switchable graphics or something else? Or am I stuck with the integrated Intel HD graphics?
If I can upgrade/add a new card, where would I be able to find/buy a compatible one, and would I be able to install it myself or would I need to go to a local computer repair?
My laptop is the HP Envy dv7 dv7-7243cl Entertainment Notebook.
It has an Intel Core i7- 3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz, 12 GB memory, 150 GB SSD hard drive, 1 TB hard drive (5400 rpm).
I am currently running Windows 8.1 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit).

    You're very welcome.
I am not a PC repair tech by trade or training.
Other than the replacement motherboard, and fan and heatsink combination, I wouldn't know if any other parts are required.
The parts you need are listed in chapter 3 of the service manual with the part numbers.
I also don't know if the boards come with the windows 8 product key included in the BIOS.
There may be multiple motherboards listed, so make sure you get the right one.
Same for the fan and heatsink.
