Driving a plasma
is it possible to play video out of Final Cut on a 24" iMac to a plasma monitor. I could buy a Macpro and get 2 video cards to drive 2 Cinema Displays and a 3rd black magic card to drive a plasma, we do that at work but that is a lot of money. I could edit on a 24" imac but would need to see the video play out onto a monitor instead of the "Canvas" window in Final Cut. Any thoughts. Thanks.
The iMac 24" Intel models should be able to support
an external display such as a plasma, provided the
correct display cord is available and the graphics
card suitable for the purpose. Smaller computers
have powered plasma displays before, so it should.

Connecting my Macbook Pro to Samsung 42" Plasma
Hi,
I have just purchased a new Samsung 42" plasma TV (PS42B450) and wanted to connect my Macbook Pro laptop (mid 2009) up to my TV and use as a media center. I got some advice from the Apple store and went off logged onto the website and bought Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter, then purchased a digital audio lead from Maplins and then expected it all to work...
I got the picture up fine and looks awesome but there is no sound? It is now driving me crazy and the only solution is now to buy another cable (Mini DisplayPort + USB Audio to HDMI Adapter) and from reading many forums and searching the web, is this the solution?
Has anyone else had this problem if so how did you solve it?
Many Thanks
Andy SarbuttHi Andy,
I think you're mistaken. You are using the "DVI Audio In" input on your TV for the audio cable, correct? And, you're also using a digital (toslink, optical) audio cable, plugged into that input? If so, that will not work.
The specifications for the TV on the Samsung website make no mention of a digital audio input. I also looked through the manual for the TV at the link you gave. Page 9 shows the following image:
That is the cable that it shows going from the DVI audio output of some device (say your MBP) and into your TV on the other end. It is clearly a 3.5mm (1.8") analog lead, not a digital (optical) cable.
I still think you need a standard 1/8" to 1/8" stereo minijack cable to get sound on your TV. One with a headphone plug on both ends.
Let us know how it turns out, if you do find one of those.

Using Mac Mini dvi to vga on an Philips plasma
Hi
I have an Philips plasma tv that dosn´t have an dvi. So I use the vga instead.
But I get the message non supported picture format. Sorry for my bad translation från swedish. The tv is an Philips 42PF9945. Please if any one can help meIf you have a second Mac or a PC at your disposal on the same network as the mini, I suggest you try making a VNC connection between the mini and the second computer. In this manner you can control the mini remotely and make different selections in Display Preferences on the mini from the other computer. Hopefully you will be able to find a resolution that will cause the screen to come to life.

Error while Driving a view using parameters from other view
Hi,
I have created a report with streamlist and Barchart view.Driving option is used in streamlist to drive the barchart. The driving works well untill i dont use any filters in the Streamlist.Once i use parameters in streamlist , the driving works only for the default values set. When Second set of values are chosed for the parameter, the values are displayed correctly , but once they are selected for driving, the current values are replaced by the results of the default parameter settings.
I have already done the tutorials for driving and it worked well untill i use filters in the main view, from where the driving is done.
I would really appreciate if someone could give a solution for this problem.

Help Needed for Internet Security Driving Test!
Hi I came up with a few basic rules for family and friends
that I put together in order to try to prevent them from
continually installing spyware, toolbars, keyloggers and viruses on
their computers (and as a result, to try to prevent them from
continually calling me and asking for my help and advice when they
did this and things went wrong).
To all intents and purposes the rules worked well - for a
while. I set it up as a simple RTF document and I added this to the
start up folder of Windows XP, so that it started every time the PC
started. However, over time some of them simply learned to ignore
the rules and to close the RTF document as soon as it opened
without paying any attention to it at all - and then they went
about their merry business of installing spyware, keyloggers and
viruses etc. just as they had in the past.
So OK, I have to admit I found this deeply frustrating - but
I also realise that this is the same position that many of us geeks
are in in that on the whole, most average everyday computer users
don't have a clue about Internet security.
Now however things have become a lot more serious for me, as
I have been asked by a local charity to administer a total of 60
machines over 2 different sites - and I have also been asked if I
could provide some form of training with regard to basic personal
Internet security.
With this in mind I came up with the idea of an interactive
CDROM, or Flash based Internet security driving test/tutorial that
basically covers all of the scenarios I touch on in my rules.
This tutorial would cover basic things like, if you got an
email from a representative ex President of an African country
offering you a share in millions of dollars of stolen money, or if
you got an email from your bank asking you to verify your security
details and so on, what would you do? Additionally it would cover
such things as the abundance of viruses that infest many of the
porn sites on the net, the way that many games on the Internet that
are listed as being 'free' (particularly those which are in
executable file format) are often just vehicles for more spyware
and viruses also - and about the dangers of chat lines, of spoof
security warnings on web sites and so on.
I have included my list of rules below which should hopefully
give you an idea of what I'm trying to do. Be warned though, the
wording is deliberately harsh and perhaps a little extreme (and as
a result maybe not entirely 100% accurate) but you must realize
that I am, or was trying to give myself the easiest time possible
and the least possible problems. So you may well find things you
disagree with in it - but overall if someone followed these rules,
they probably would be less likely to run into problems than
someone who did not follow them might.
The thing is however that (as I said) I would like to
formalise these rules somewhat in the format of some kind of
interactive tutorial/web security driving test. Unfortunately I
have no experience with flash - and little knowledge of HTML or
anything like that. I also know that the language for these rules
isn't quite right, in that it probably isn't suitable for a formal
office type environment.
I had in mind that the tutorial would show some realtime
examples of some of the things I have been talking about (which I
assume would only be possible in Flash?) or perhaps rather like a
readers digest multiple choice type thing, with screenshots
depicting the various scenarios in question. (Like a screenshot of
a flash animation on a web page saying 'You have won a prize!!!'
What would you do? a) click on the ad, b, ignore it, or c) phone
all of your family and friends informing them of your good fortune
before doing anything.' etc.
So I was wondering, are there any good hearted charitable
souls out there who might be willing to help out to put a tutorial
like this together?
Again I remind you that it really is for a charity
(specifically the Depaul Trust in the UK, which helps young
vulnerable people find secure accommodation, provides educational
opportunities and helps them to find employment). The requirement
would be that all staff and students pass the Internet security
test before being granted Internet access.
I know this might be time consuming - but again all I can do
is appeal to the sense of kindness and helpfulness of this
community and hope that someone who does have some experience in
these maters might be willing to help.
Alternatively could anyone suggest a simple easy to use
software package that would allow a relative n00b like me to put
together a tutorial like this on my own? Or perhaps it is possible
that some free online tutorial like this already exists?
In any case, any help at all would be appreciated.
PS,
Here are the rules I have that I referred to above.
http://download305.mediafire.com/b6ndmljht1bg/29bbnnbz2uz/internet+rules.rtfDennis, when I look at the subject three clips (EI 1250, EI 640, and EI 320, respectively, and in that order) as presented in the camera, I see exactly what I have expected all along -- three different-brightness images that are progressively brighter from the EI 1250 exposure to the EI 320 exposure. So, am mystified why when I open these images (clips), say, in RAW Viewer, wherein I have thought that I would see the same progressive brightness differences allowing me to experiment with reducing brightness to deal with noise reduction, all three of the images present completely alike in brightness.

Ssrs report from ssas cube , driving me nuts now...
hi folks:
This is driving me nuts and I know it's gonna be some small stupid settings. The question is pretty simple, I want to users to be able to pick up a week from date hierarchy. If I specify a static week, mdx query will run and report shows with
correct data and format.
Now, in the dataset I've created using query designer, I've dragged data hierarchy into the filter and check the parameter box and also put a default value as well. Technically, when I run this report, I am supposed to see a dropdown list with all
the available dates but I did not see any dropdownlist and report still runs with default value.
Why is this happening?
Thanks
Hui
--Currently using Reporting Service 2000; Visual Studio .NET 2003; Visual Source Safe SSIS 2008 SSAS 2008, SVN --Hi Hui,
Just as Gnanadurai said, a report auto runs when all parameters has their own default values. This scenario can also be occurred when there are no available values for the parameters. So if you want to see a drop-down list with all available dates when the
report runs, we should specify some available values for the parameter. For example, we can specify the available values come from a dataset field. Then the values in the field would be displayed in the drop-down list, we can select some of them to filter
the report.

Hope this helps.

HI there can you tell me why none of my music will play on itunes it just displays a message saying it cannot be located please help it is driving me nuts
JanAbout 5 days ago for no apparent reason at all, about
7000 songs which i have collected over a number of
years has just decided that it wont play in ITUNES or
in any other of my media players. When you click on
Play over a song nothing happens. The play icon
doesnt even come up on the screen.
Steps I have taken so far are:
1 - Remove all tracks from ITUNES and then re-add the
folder where all the songs are. This has obviously
removed all songs, but when I have re-added the
folder , it has added about 650 tracks back on to the
playlist. These 650 tracks will play. This leaves
approx 6400 tracks that it wont play.
By the way all the songs on my PC are MP3 type and I
have had no problem playing any of them until last
week.
2 - I have re-installed ITUNES and reinstalled
Quicktime and that has not worked.
3 - All of my songs are backed up on to a External
Hard Drive. I have tried to restore the songs and
also play them directly from the external hard drive.
I get the same problem when I do this.
4 - I have enabled and allowed all permissions for
the account that I am running the PC from.
I am guessing there must be some settnig or Registry
Key that is blocking me playing the tracks from the
PC. I have also tried to launch the songs in Media
Player and Sonic stage but thsi has not played
either.
All the tracks are in the folder structure as they
were before so I know they are there. I just need to
somehow unlock them.......
If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful as
I dont want to lose my entire music collection.
Also I cannot find anyweher on here that is a Support
number or email address for Apple as this is an
ITUNES issue and they should be resolving it for
me!!!!
Thanks

Issues With Using a 50" Plasma as a Monitor.
Hi there,
I'm using a brand new Mac Mini (just bought less than 3 hours ago) with my 50 inch plasma (th-50pz80u here are the specs: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-viera-th-50pz80u/4507-6482_7-32 887126.html ) but when I connect it via a mini DVI adapter to DVI-to-HDMI cable to my TV, I get a image that's too big (menu bar and lower dock are missing) with overscan, or too small (I get black bars on the sides, and the top) without overscan.
I would like the output to be 1080p and completely fit my display. Can anybody help me with that?
Thank you.

How do I connect my Samsung Series 8000 plasma tv to my 27" imac
How do I connect my Samsung Series 8000 plasma tv to my 27" imac (2.8 GHz Intel Core i7) to use as a display?
Here you go (no financial or other interest in this web site or company):
http://www.kanexlive.com/iadapt51
I believe we have the same model of iMac (late 2009) in which unfortunately Apple did not provide audio signals in the mini-DisplayPort out port. This Kanex adapter will pick up your audio as well as the DisplayPort signal and combine them in an HDMI signal that you plug into the Samsung HDTV. -

I have just tried to connect my Mac book pro to an LG Plasma TV via an iWires Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable. All I get on my TV is the Mac wallpaper and nothing else. I am missing something really silly, could anyone help please.
Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire. -
i just bought a panasonic 50" plasma tv model TC-P50X3 and i want to connect my macbook pro with my new ty how do i do that?
Assuming your MBP is a recent model, i.e. bought in the last couple of years, and that your TV has HDMI inputs (if you've bought it new then that's a safe assumption) then you need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable. The Apple Store sell one:

How to connect a plasma panel digitally to Qosmio F10-130
Hi,
I just orderer the F10-130 and I would like to connect my plasma panel with a digital video signal. The monitor has a DVI input, and the F10 has a so-called "D-Video out" interface that I've never seen before. What's the best way to connect the two devices? I know that VGA Sub-D or S-Video should work, but IMHO this is not state of the art. Does an adapter D-Video to DVI exist?
Regards,
Marsu
[Edited by: admin on 14-Mar-05 21:12]Hi marsu
D connector port on Qosmio you can connect to SCART port on TV. The cable is provided with Qosmio notebook. Sorry but I think there is no possibility to connect it to DVI port on your TV.
Only thing that you can do is to ask some experts in electronic store if there is some solution for this issue. -
How would I connect my Macbook to a new Plasma tv?
I have an Intel Macbook which has a mini-DVI output, and I can connect it via a mini-DVI to DVI cable into the plasma telly I already own. This gives me a 1024x640 resolution on my plasma.
However, I have been looking to upgrade my plasma to a new HD one, and have been looking at the Pioneer pdp-4280xd. This has all the usual connections (3xhdmi, component, s-video etc) as well as a PC input, which is SXGA. According to one website, SXGA can throw out a resolution of 1280x1024. However this telly only has a pixel res of 1024x768. Regardless, according to the Apple website, it states my Macbook mini-DVI connection only supports DVI, VGA, S-Video, and Composite (blahh!!). So I am assuming then, that my Macbook won't be able to send a signal through the SXGA port, correct?
If that is the case, how else is best for me to connect my Macbook to a new telly like this one? Can I connect via a HDMI port? I have read S-video is not as good as using a DVI input, but there doesn't seem to be much choice if there isn't a DVI or VGA input available. And if I do connect via S-video, in this telly's case, I am assuming I can only get a max res of 1024x768 (the tv has rectangular pixels to give it a widescreen aspect).
Is it best for me to wait for a 42" plasma which has full HD resolution so I can have better res with my Macbook connected? And how is best for me to connect it with all these new tv ports?
Thanks for any advise.Hi,
Maybe the Apple TV would be the most elegant solution. However you have posted your question in the wrong forum so not likely to get any answers here.
best of luck,
Niall -
