Driving my eardrums into my brain...

I couldn't find a similar problem on the forum, so let me describe what happens to me.
To start off I know for a fact that the volume adjustment on all my songs is on 0% (in the middle, unchanged, whatever it's called). I've also switched off the volume limit on my iPod because it compounds the problem.
The problem being that when shuffling through my songs occasionally the volume suddenly shoots up. I don't mean that the volume level as displayed on screen changse but suddenly the sound becomes MUCH LOUDER, typically heralded by a little spike on the previous song just before it switches over. Turning down the volume slightly and moving to the next song usually fixes this. It happens on random songs and not always on the same song.
I know it's been happening ever since I got it, and, as I mentioned, it happens much more frequently with Volume Limit on.
Is this a known problem? A broken iPod? Something to with my headphones? (I know, I'm really puzzled).

Believe me when I say I don't care where you got your music from. I do need to know, however, as that was the root of my similar problem. When iTunes imports MP3s, AACs, whatever, it reads all the data there and sets as standard. Unfortunately, that means if the volume adjustment was ALREADY set way to high, then you've got a super-loud song that seems normal.
Summary: If you got it from a friend/torrent/ect, it may have been pre-adjusted, and now seen as normal.

  • Looking for an FM adaptor

    i know it might sound shallow but i am simply frustrated over the ipod touch's lack of built-in FM radio hardware and i feel i might have to wait for the 3rd gen touch before we see the light of it.
    i simply want some recommendations of any 1st-party or 3rd-party FM radio adaptor/receiver for my 2nd gen ipod touch. thanks.

    Hi I have found most FM transmitters to be of poor quality but i have found a fantastic piece of equipment for the ipod. Its is made by Harmon Kardon drive plus you can by it from Amazon for around £30 . It consists of a small sreen about 2.5 inches long which the title of the track that is playing can be seen. It is controlled by a round knob (which is iluminated blue )with 4 buttons on it. This controls the ipod you can select more or less the same menu as the ipod as you drive change track at a touch of a button, pause select new artist album the same as using the menu on the ipod. It is distortion free with no Hiss as i have found with most Fm transmitters. I is very easly connected to your radio via the aerial wire at the rear of the radio you will req to remove the radio and wire up the unit. It may sound a daunting task but it is very sraight forward with written instructions in the box. You have two live feeds and one earth to power the unit up I found the wiring to be the same as the radio yellow red and black perminent live a ign live and as i say a earth. The ipod connects via a long cable with the apple plug on one end which plugs into the Brains of the unit The hand Knob also connects to the Brains of the unit as i say it may sound a big job but it is not if your kind of handy and well worth the effort. This also charges the ipod as you drive. You do req to tune your radio to a frequency of your choice and tune in the HK Dive via the hand control. The only downside i have found is you can not watch video whilst connected but you can watch you tube if you wish though this may effect your driving if there is something interesting on other than that it is a amazing piece of equipment

  • How to connect audio from ASUS TV FM Card to SB Audigy 4 Ca

    I haven't installed the ASUS TV FM Card?yet but I see in the manual that it has an onboard connector for audio which can either go to the motherboard or a sound card (2 plugs on leads, one small, white and the other larger and black). In my case it would have to be the sound card as my onboard audio is disabled. I've been trying to find a detailed spec diagram of my audio card so that I can get the installation details into my brain before messing around inside my PC case. Is there a "Line-in JP Audio-input" on this card?Or do I have to connect the ASUS card to the motherboard - question there is will the sound work?Do I need to connect the audio at all with a PCI slotThis is all above my head and I would appreciate any help.Anyone any hints on this please?Message Edited by Ex-Brit on 0-27-200609:00 AM

    The Best solution is to connect the sound directly to the sound card (eventually it gets there anyway ... even if you connect it to the cards audio input)
    depending on what type of connector you have on the TV (SCART/RCA) you`ll need some adapters.
    the one you`ll most probably need is an RCA Audio -> 3.5 Stereo jack adapter.

  • Ovi Suite + 5230 USB not working

    Preamble:
    I recently connected my Nokia 5230 mobile phone to my PC via USB connection and loaded up Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23). Everything worked lovely. But alas! Both an Ovi suite update was available, as well as a update for the phone itself! So I downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.0.0.284).
    Unfortunately, now Ovi Suite does not detect when I select "PC Suite" USB mode (selected on the phone screen). This essentially makes Ovi Suite useless.
    So I followed some advice on other discussion pages (more on that later) and reinstalled the Ovi Suite. The problem persisted.
    Here are some pictures to help you understand my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/5IknF.jpg
    The computer is able detect the phone is connected via USB. I can even browse the contents of the phone memory and memory card. Upon detecting the connected phone, and me pressing 'PC Suite' on the phone screen, it will show this:
    http://i.imgur.com/lV0rs.jpg
    I cannot progress past this screen. The Ovi Suite simply does not recognise that I've selected that option on the phone.
    Defense:
    I know what your thinking. "Just another USB thread". Well, I did in fact read plenty of threads on this forum before posting, and have spent the last few hours uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and drivers in various ways (as suggested in those threads), with no success.
    The following is a list of forum threads which I have read and tried all the solutions found in each, and I have copied the solutions (which appear to have worked for other people), for your convenience:

    Solutions which did not work for me:
    Could you please follow these steps and check?
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
    2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
    1. Uninstall all nokia related applications like Ovisuite, pc suite, connectivity cable driver,pc connectivity solutions, nokia software updater etc. from ur PC.
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Now download and install the recent ovisuite from http://www.ovi.com/suite
    4. After installation, disconnect/disable your internet connection (this will make sure that the PC use the drivers which comes with ovisuite and  prevent the PC from downloading any new drivers from internet) and then connect your mobile and wait for drivers and support software installation.
    5. After drivers installation you can connect your mobile to ovisuite from ovisuite screen.

    After re-starting the computer, I also followed this portion of a suggestion from another post (don't know if it made a difference or not):
    "connected the device, waited till all the drivers were loaded.

     (From /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/E52-Sync-Error-8393f010-838c03ee/m-p/740481)

    Zship's revelations:
    So this is not really a problem for me. I have the working, older (2.2.1.23) version of Ovi Suite installed on my netbook, and sure enough, it works fine, I just tried it. I wont be updating Ovi Suite on it though. I also could probably just download the update via 3.5G using just the phone itself, but the problem remains that a simple software update has caused a critical connectivity problem between your software and hardware. Given that many Nokia customers would have less technical know-how than say, myself or anyone else on this forum, this problem is a quite likely a huge inconvenience to them, they probably wouldn't visit these discussions and spend 5 hours reinstalling software like I just did, and they surely would be thinking twice before purchasing another Nokia device in the future.
    tl;dr - Nokia recommended update breaks connectivity between software and device, various attempts to fix seemingly simple problem don't work.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    SAME PROBLEM. And none of the many suggested solutions has worked for me yet. I want to thank all on this thread (and many others) for their help. I've learned a lot but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. I think maybe Nokia needs to ... uh ... bloody well BOTHER TO FIX THIS ISSUE themselves, maybe. Like, cuz they're PAID FOR IT and I'M NOT. Harrumph.
    I run Windows XP, and was on Media Player 11, but have rolled back to 9 and 10. I have a Nokia E 72. I have all the latest Nokia cable-drivers, PC Suite, OVI Suite, Connectivity software, etc.. The symptoms are as follows: when I plug in the phone by USB cable, the laptop won't recognize it. It says "USB device faulty" or "failed to load properly" and refuses to get the hardware into its brain. The Device Manager shows only a "Unknown Device" which I cannot install drivers onto. Taking the extra media-card out of the phone doesn't make any difference -- nothing I've done will make the computer recognize the main (built-in) card in the phone. I can't browse to it via any sort of populate / repopulate disk drive, or any other method of connecting it.
    As I understand it, this is some conflict with the phone and the new concept of MTP. Media Transfer Protocol confuses the computer, causing it to kind-of think that the phone is kind-of a media player, when in fact it's a whole lot more. So, the "parent" doesn't get loaded, then the rest of the phone doesn't get loaded, then it kind-of tries to load some MTP but fails, etc.. If I could browse to the phone through a non-Nokia connection I'd be happy to do so in order to implement any of a number of the suggestions above. But I can't get the computer to recognize the phone when the phone is plugged in by USB, regardless of all the solutions above.
    The problem began a few days ago. It just up and wouldn't recognize the phone. I hadn't installed any updates that I knew of on either item, but it's possible that my memory is faulty and a newer version of this or that snuck in there and screwed it all up. I have tried a serious roll-back to a Restore Point about six weeks old, but that didn't solve the problem. This suggests to me that the problem is phone-resident, since the rollback was to a computer-based Restore Point and I don't have phone rollback capability.
    This seriously hampers me. PC Suite, OVI, and some future version of Nokia Suite, will all be useless to me unless Nokia accomplishes the stunning act of supporting their software. I won't hold my breath. Just in general, you'd think that plug-and-play of a phone into your computer would be a lot simpler. Just take the cord -- stick it in the phone; stick it in the computer -- and shazam, you're plugged in. But NOOOOOO we're on NOOOOOOKIA ... Now I know why Microsoft wanted to buy them so badly. They knew they'd all get along and have the same assumptions about software -- that it doesn't really matter whether it works reliably on a user's computer at his home, as long as it works in theory on some programmer's ideal personal computer in Seattle once in a rare while. Nokia? Meet Microsoft. Microsoft? You and Nokia will get along juuuust fiiiine ...

  • Error - cannot send message using the server....

    Until today I thought the following error message was due to a limitation imposed by my IP (Roadrunner). While talking with their Tech support on an unrelated matter I mentioned this error appears whenever I send an e-mail containing multiple groups (smart groups) created in Address Book.
    Roadrunner says the error is being triggered within Apple's Mail program and not at their server level. If that's true, then what is the recipient # ceiling within an e-mail (individual or group)? For further clarification, when the above error does appear (only occurs with 2 or more groups in the To: field, where recipients per list is over 50), the remedy is to remove all groups except one. Then the e-mail can be sent with no problem. If the multiple lists are below 50 or so, then the e-mail can be sent.
    Appreciate any feedback.

    Hi Ernie
    It might relate to how Mail lines up the addresses, but any limit is from the SMTP.
    RR Tech support said their system had a limit of 1,000 e-mails a day. Otherwise, all ought to go through. They suggested I call Apple (is that suggestion branded into their brains during their customer sensitivity training? )
    Are all the addresses in the To header, or elsewhere?
    All in the "To" field. As I posted, in Address Book the groups are created using Smart folders. On the receiver side, those that do go out reach the recipient with no problem.

  • Planning Units issues in Hyperion Planning 11.1.2

    Hi, experts.
    I'm new in HP, so needed some help with misunderstanding of how PU&proccess management normally works.
    More detailed I interested at the area of Validation rules.
    I have to give an example of few problems I met during my try to implement this functionality.
    Firstly, it's a newest version of EPM 11.1.2 installed and supported by the vendor's professionals
    I have Planning app deployed in EPMA with 14 dims. I didn't drop any standard planning dimensions, all are present
    There is the only PU hierarchy to test how approvals works. It has 3 entities and 12 elements of additional dimension - functional group. Hence, there are 36 level zero members in PU hierarchy.
    Form1 consists of 36 rows according to PUH, columns are Period (17) and one custom dim for the target, plan values, it's diff etc. Validation rule VR1 on Form1 check negative values of target minus plan (I plan expences) VR1 has "No Promote" flag. Then I start 2 level0 planning units (entity1-FuncGroup1 and entity1-FuncGroup2). I try to promote these PU1&PU2. It's Ok only if negative exists I get an data error links drilling down into my form1. So user can see the error and all happy.
    Problem actually with form2 that has Region Dim in page. Entity,Functional Group,Account in rows and Plan value,Year,Period in columns. It also has VR2 for testing plan values greater than 1000 with No Promote option. Another VR3 checks values greater than 100 to add new approver, reviewer (no matter) to the approvals process management.
    Both VR2 and VR3 don't work accurately. They fired only for the first member in page (Region), hence any data validation for other regions except first skipped. In addition VR3 when triggered for Region1 always circles (between new and previous approver). It meens there is no way to finish this proccess using the promote option. Anyway you can approve PU, but all steps after current Aprover will be skipped in promotional path.
    Maybe I can't work with Proccess managment in the right way? So could anybody give me an idea what's wrong. I've spent much time googling any issues like me have
    Many thanks in advance,
    Vladimir

    Hi, Theresia
    Yes you're absolutely right, I created VR from the manage form's menu. So I use standard HP 11.1.2 functionality. I've seen it in new features while read Oracle documentation. Also with testing of approvals in Proccess managment I use distinct colours for negatives and diff values (greater 1000 and 100 in my example). Colours work fine, but i can't say it about aprovals :). And all these examples of using planning form VR's i've taken from oracle administrators&user guiide and from presentations of EPM 11.1.2
    In addition I've started work with Hyperion products 2-3 month ago. Hence I have to read a lot of information because my previous experience was OLTP, RDBMS not OLAP.
    As a first step i wanna know all standard possibilities of product i use. And also best practice and some often used technics. Many thanks for your idea with Smart list and BR i'll try it (though i use EMPA and Calc Manager rules). I know that soon I have to use Java API's, so I might read and learn Java to write the simplest code first. But for me it's too much info i have to load into my brain in such short period :)
    As a resume, my opinion it's a bug of new features EPM 11.1.2. But maybe I'm wrong cause none has said the same
    Anyway thanks, Theresia, for your help. If you know or will some new additional info i'll say you thanks again
    Best regards,
    Vladimir

  • How to copy and paste from excel in Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 using the Mozilla 17 as my browser?

    Hi,
    I'm using Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2.300 and Mozilla 17 as my web browser, and I'm trying to paste a number from excel directly into a cell in a data form in Hyperion.
    ie. after I copy the figure from a cell in excel, I go to a cell in Hyperion Planning and either press Ctrl+V or use the right-click mouse button on the cell where the Copy/Paste/Cut... menu appears.
    Either way the number is not pasted (nothing happens)
    On the other hand, if I double left-click in the cell (which is used for entering values manually in Hyperion Planning) the number if pasted correctly, however this is not a good workaround.
    Please assist.
    Thank you

  • Firewire Port

    This is my first post to this board, but I have been reading it lately. Thank you all for the schooling!
    I recently shorted out the firewire port on my JVC HD GY100. It seems to be a common problem from what I hear (the repair tech in Atlanta told me I had put the cable in upside down) (not!).
    anyway, is there a danger of shorting out the macbook pro 15" port? Is is truly plug n play, or is it best to shut down every time I change the cable? I bought an Isolator for my new camera, should I get one for the macbook pro?
    thank you
    J.R.
    ps what about the USB ports? any hidden dangers there?

    Yes, it is possible.
    First, if you plug the FW connector in upside down, voltage is being sent to the data transmit wire, which can fry the port.
    Second, on cheap FW cables, as you plug the connector in, the voltage from the power wire can easily make contact with the other wires on the FW jack, because physically there isn't sufficient clearance in the connector assembly. That's hard to describe, but if you look at a good FW connector and a cheap one side by side, it might be obvious.
    I buy Unibrain, some others buy Granite Digital. Both make great FW cables. There are other manufacturers that make great FW cables as well, but their names are not popping into my brain at the moment.

  • SQL Error: ORA-01861: literal does not match format string

    Hello,
    I'm trying to do data mining on a web log which recorded one day web access information from a busy web server. I imported the data into Oracle Data miner, and created a table (WEBLOG). The idea is to create a new field, i.e. session, for the users so that each session could be thought as a representative of a user-intent (aka topic). Now based on this, data mining models would be used to cluster(group) the users based on their similarity. The first step is to prepare the data which involves using SQL queries. So first, all I did was to create a function for date and time. This is the following code I used,
    create or replace function ssndate(p_date in varchar2 default '03-01-18',
    p_time in varchar2)
    return number

    end ssndate;
    The function ssndate compiled successfully.
    The next step I took was to create a view through the following query,
    create or replace view WEBLOG_VIEWS
    as
    select (select ssndate(LOG_DATE, LOG_TIME) from dual) as "SESSION_DT",
    C_IP,
    CS_USER_AGENT,
    (CS_URI_STEM||'?'||CS_URI_QUERY) as WEB_LINK
    from WEBLOG;
    This was successful as well. The problem is in the next step where I try to do data grouping.
    create table FINAL_WEBLOG as
    select SESSION_DT, C_IP, CS_USER_AGENT,
    listagg(WEB_LINK, ' ')
    within group(order by C_IP, CS_USER_AGENT) "WEB_LINKS"
    from WEBLOG_VIEWS
    group by C_IP, CS_USER_AGENT, SESSION_DT
    order by SESSION_DT
    For this, I got the error,
    Error starting at line 1 in command:
    create table FINAL_LOG as
    select SESSION_DT, C_IP, CS_USER_AGENT,
    listagg(WEB_LINK, ' ')

    01861. 00000 - "literal does not match format string"
    *Cause:    Literals in the input must be the same length as literals in
    the format string (with the exception of leading whitespace).
    If the "FX" modifier has been toggled on, the literal must
    match exactly, with no extra whitespace.
    *Action:   Correct the format string to match the literal.
    I don't know where I'm going wrong with this.. the to_date function should be fine. In the data that I possess, the date and time are in no format. Example: 30118 and 0:00:09 respectively. If anyone has any clue about this I would be sincerely grateful for any help that I can get!! It's quite urgent..

One of the very first rules of programming is to ALWAYS use the correct data types for your data. And along with that, never ever depend on implicit type conversions - always use the proper explicit conversion functions.
    And as a slight follow-on, when considering the appropriate data type, don't assume that just because we refer to a given element as a 'something number' that it is indeed a number. Telephone "numbers" are NOT numbers. U.S. Social Security "numbers" are NOT numbers. U.S. Postal Zip codes are NOT numbers. All are just character strings which, by convention, we limit to the same characters we use to represent numbers.

  • ASA failover: secondary ASA disabled failover on its own

    Hi all
    I have a failover pair of ASA 5520 (Software Version 8.2(4)4)
    located in two different data centers.
    Because of a network issue the layer 2 connection between both locations has been interrupted for a couple of seconds and the ASAs went into split-brain as one would expect them to do.
    The thing is that after approx. 1 minute the secondary ASA switched off its failover configuration (i.e. "show run" gives "no failover") without anybody telling it to do so. Here is the "show failover history" of the device:
    07:57:34 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Standby Ready              Just Active                HELLO not heard from mate
    07:57:34 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Just Active                Active Drain               HELLO not heard from mate
    07:57:34 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Active Drain               Active Applying Config     HELLO not heard from mate
    07:57:34 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Active Applying Config     Active Config Applied      HELLO not heard from mate
    07:57:34 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Active Config Applied      Active                     HELLO not heard from mate
    07:58:03 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Active                     Cold Standby               Failover state check
    07:58:18 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Cold Standby               Disabled                   HA state progression failed
    At this point failover was switched off completely and the split-brain remained even after the layer-2-connection has been reestablished.
    This is no good.:( I have searched for "HA state progression failed" without any useful result/explanation.
    Why did the device switch off failover on its own and how can we assure that it won't do this again?
    Best regards,
    Grischa

    Yes, only thing I needed to do was issuing "failover" on the secondary. It detected its active mate and went properly into standby:
    09:16:18 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Disabled                   Negotiation                Set by the config command
    09:16:19 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Negotiation                Cold Standby               Detected an Active mate
    09:16:21 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Cold Standby               Sync Config                Detected an Active mate
    09:16:31 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Sync Config                Sync File System           Detected an Active mate
    09:16:31 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Sync File System           Bulk Sync                  Detected an Active mate
    09:16:31 MESZ Aug 15 2011
    Bulk Sync                  Standby Ready              Detected an Active mate
    I guess we will go the TAC way if we encounter this situation a second time. This time we will be warned and know where to look at.
    Is there really no documentation available of the "HA state progression failed" message? What does it mean and how is it triggered usually?

  • Best Method for Importing and Exporting Data to a local 'resrouce'  file

    I've searched the forum, and seen glimmers of hope to what I am trying to piece together - but not in a concise way that will sink into my brain.
    Using Javascript on a PC for IDCS2, I'm writing a simple script that has a user interface.
    I'd like to have 4 default values for the user interface to be read from (and if altered, written to) a text file.
    What's the simplest way to go about this? I've read through many posts, and toyed around with readln and writeln functions, but nothing is working out. For some reason, I can't send any information to any file - let alone read it back in.
    Could somebody point me in the right direction? For simplicity sake let's say I have just one variable, "myVariable" - and I want to send it to and read it from c:\test.txt.
    Someday - this will all sink in. Right now, I'm reaching for Aspirin.

    Hi D Scott Chinn,
    Try something like this:
    var myFile = File.saveDialog ("Save file as:")
    if(myFile != undefined){
    var myString = "Write this string to a file."
    myFile.open("w");
    myFile.write(myString);
    myFile.close();
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • JLabel won't display image until all methods have completed

    Hi,
    I?m trying to deal playing cards. I can click a button to deal one card at a time
    but I?m trying to set it up so it runs 25 cards with a delay on each card.
    Otherwise, it just puts up 25 cards at the same time.
    I?ve been reading about threads and swing delays but the same thing happens.
    It runs the methods and displays it all in one shot.
    Below is code for displaying one card. It works fine
    private void jButton9ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
    ic[icCount] = new ImageIcon(Deck.cardMatrix[matRow][matCol]);
    if(icCount ==1 ) jLabel1.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==2 ) jLabel2.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==3 ) jLabel3.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==4 ) jLabel4.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==5 ) jLabel5.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==6 ) jLabel6.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==7 ) jLabel7.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==8 ) jLabel8.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==9 ) jLabel9.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);

    if(icCount ==11)jLabel11.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==12)jLabel12.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==13)jLabel13.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==14)jLabel14.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);
    if(icCount ==15)jLabel15.setIcon((Icon) ic[icCount]);

              testCardMatrix =1;
        System.out.printf("%n  icCount= "+icCount);
    }   Here is the problem code:
    It performs all these functions and I see nothing until it?s
    over and then I see it all in one shot.
    Button11 starts a for loop
    startshowMatrix
    - showMatrix --displays one card
    - Deck.delayMilli(500);
    return to button 11 for another loop
    Right now the for Loop shows me 3 cards at a time.
    I had the for loop around the startshowMatrix method. No success.
    What I want is showMatrix to display a card in a jLabel, delay, and display the next one.
    Simple? I ?m sure it is?lol
    private void jButton11ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {

    Your problem is about displaying labels one by one in a delayed fashion, yet you repeatedly post 25 lines of setIcon code which has nothing whatsoever to do with the problem and is also ugly: you should be using an array of JLabel and setting the icons in a loop.
    The class javax.swing.Timer hides the threading details from you and the actionListener method of its assigned Action, as all event code, runs on the EDT.import java.awt.*;

  • How robust is PDF-Password protection? Does it also work for PDF/A?

    Several sources say that PDF passwords can be removed with appropriate software. Is this true?
    Can I also protect a PDF/A with a password? If not, how can I be sure that I can still open a regular password protected PDF in 10 years from now?
    Many thanks.

    Actually PDF/A is specifically designed to guarantee that the documents can be read in the distant future (barring global destruction, end of reality as we know it, alien sheep invasions, etc.)
    While we cannot predict which vendor will be providing the software to do it, or how the data will be stored by then (holographic data mice are still in beta) the PDF/A standard is designed to do two very important things:
    The standard is open, so the structure of a PDF/A file can be interpreted by anyone who can open it and compare the contents to the standard (which itself is also published in PDF/A). It's basically a text file with lots of symbols in it.
    PDF/A forbids any encryption or licensed algorithms (e.g. H.264) that could be impossible or illegal for a future viewer to use, for example if a password is lost or the inventor of a proprietary algorithm goes crazy and cancels all the licenses.
    Combined, these points make PDF/A impossible not to be parsable. It may end up projected directly into your brain by the aforementioned holographic data mouse, but you'll be reading it all the same.
    MichaelKazlow wrote:
    As to your ability to open a secured password in 20 years from now? Heck there is no guarantee that your non-secured pdf file will be readable in 20 years. With PDF/A your chances are pretty good as it uses standards based file format, but there is no guarentee that Adobe or any other company doing business today will be in business 20 years from now.

  • Looking for a Java tutor/mentor.

    Greetings. I've recently had quite a hard time figuring out the programing projects for my university computer science course. Seeing as how the teaching assistants aren't very helpful, I am in search of somebody who would be able to help me/discuss programs via email or AIM. Any help would be much appreciated as I am struggling with this class. Thanks.
    [email protected]

    Sorry, but seeing how I learnt this stuff myself, all you can do is pick up a book and start reading it. YOU need to put effort into it, it makes no sense that somebody else needs to jam the knowledge into your brain, the teaching assistants are only there to help you figure it out on your own by pointing you in the right direction.
    That said, if there are specific questions you have, might I suggest you ask those questions in the newbie section? People here will be glad to help you out or point you to articles that explain the subject you are struggling with.

  • Difference between SAP R/3 , ECC and MySAP

    Hi,
    I would like to know the difference between SAP R/3 ,ECC and MySAP. Please let me know the difference , the links earlier found were not getting into my brains.
    To my understanding the SAP R/3 4.5b,4.6c - earlier versions contains the basic modules like Logistics(MM,SD) and PP (core functional modules), on technical point the little function modules were obsolete in these version.
    4.7 (included the Web application server,for web based and integrating with XI,Enterprise core ,Enterprise Extensions ) + core functional modules +.HR + FI/CO+ SCM (MM,WM,PP) + PLM
    ECC (Enterprise Core Component) - ?
    MySAP - ?
    Correct me and also your answer will help me understand better.
