[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder

On boot (and subsequently), I get spammed by the following message:
[  344.724568] [drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 128
[  344.724570] Raw EDID:

[  344.724581]          ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
This starts at 4s into boot and ends, as you see, about 344 seconds in, at which point I get this message:
[  344.724585] radeon 0000:01:00.0: DVI-I-2: Ignoring invalid EDID block 1.
I'm using a dual-link DVI monitor (QNIX QX2700) and obviously am using the open-source radeon driver that comes with the kernel.
Any help would, of course, be appreciated. It could possibly be that my monitor is just sending a bogus EDID, so solutions which tell radeon to just ignore the EDID right away are also very welcome.

The only radeon module parameter I can think of that has something to do with this is hw_i2c. Maybe try setting that to 0 or 1?

    I get this lines since a few weeks on every ~second boot. I can't bypass it or ignore it, just a reset helps. The screen comes right after the mounting of the partitions: The monitor goes black (earlier than with a regular boot), flashes up white again and goes back to black and then it comes. Can someone help me here and give me a hint what causes the problem? DRI is something with graphics, right? Maybe the *cough* Catalyst driver for my Radeon HD 7770? (I'm using 13.4-3 from the unofficial repository in the wiki, this is the stable version.) Or something completely else? And if this is Catalyst, WHAT does it want to say to me?! Would be glad for any hint.

    I use the open source ati driver with a 6570 AMD graphic card and a Yamakazi catleap monitor (cheap monitor from Korea). I don't remember having had this error with the catalyst driver. Note that the monitor is correctly detected with the correct resolution (2560x1440) and the correct refresh rate so it is probably harmless. I still wonder what causes this error.

    @Pse I think so, although, it is not the name seen by xrandr (DVI-0), but I see:

    and I have indeed 3 connectors (HDMI, DVI, VGA) on my graphic card and the monitor is connected to the DVI monitor. But as you say, I have the correct resolution with the correct refresh rate and the correct dimension; so it should be totally harmless.

  • [SOLVED] nouveau: EDID checksum is invalid, resolution broken...

    Lately I got problems with my notebook and the monitor setup. It might be related to the forum topics Resolution broken - EDID issue? or EDID Checksum error on boot, but anything posted there did not resolved my issue.
    Hardware: Dell Latitude E6400, E-Port Replicator PR01X/02X, Samsung SyncMaster 2243EW (1680x1050), dual-head setup (DP-1 and VGA-1 connected), nVidia Quadro NVS 160M, xf86-video-nouveau (0.0.16_git20120210-1), Arch running Gnome 3.4.1 with all updates (2012-05-05)
    Symptom: The monitor connected to VGA-1 gets wrong resolution (1024x768) or stays blank, dmesg shows EDID checksum errors (see full logs in this post). Infrequently the boot into X/Gnome shows garbage after login and the system crashes. This (blank, garbage, crashes) also happens when trying to fix the resolution via
    $ xrandr --output DP-1 --auto --primary --output VGA-1 --auto --right-of DP-1
    When probing with xrandr, all resolutions are correctly found
    $ xrandr --props
    -> result
    but sometimes the mouse pointer is gone after this command; also the VGA monitor goes or stays blank.
    When using the Gnome System-Settings->Displays applet to adjust the monitors, it sometimes results into garbage screens or crashes.
    Comments: First I suspected a hardware error (that's why I cannot give an exact date when these errors first occured), but I cross checked several setups. Switched screens (right/left), exchanged Port Replicator: no improvement. Moving KMS from early to late start: no improvement.
    Fedora 16 Live USB (dual-head, several boots): no errors. Also I happened to have a similar setup at my office with Samsung SyncMaster 203B (1400x1050): no errors.
    A downgrade to the previous nouveau version did not work, the system failed to boot into X/Gnome at all.
    The problems might be related to the nouveau troubleshooting topic, but I am not sure.
    Logs and configuration: Following a dmesg after boot and the relevant xorg.conf.d files.
    Anyone else with similar issues, or any idea what might be the cause?
    Cheers,
    christoph
    P.S.: Sorry for the long post, but it might serve as a reference when filing a bug.

    I have the same issues with Fedora 17 Beta (2012-05-05) LiveCD, same EDID checksum errors, same wrong resolution; see dmesg log. So I assume there is something with the new nouveau DRM.
    I found an old bug in the nouveau-freedesktop bugtracker, but last activity is Nov 2011 and I am not sure if it is related.
    What is the best to handle this issue, file a bug with Arch Linux, file a bug with nouveau-freedesktop? (Although it says on their website
    If you are using packages from your distribution, send the bug reports to your distribution and not directly to us.
    Help is appreciated, best regards,

  • Several errors of the form [drm:.... ] *ERROR*, especially checksum

    Hello to all,
    I am new to Arch Linux and not that experienced in Linux. But I want to learn more. In fact, I have learned a lot since I switched from Fedora to Arch.
    I will straight away go to my problem:
    As indicated in the subject, I have noticed several errors concerning [drm:....] this morning when I booted and checked my system with journalctl -b.
    I do not know how long these errors are there because I yesterday used journalctl for the first time.
    Here is the result of journalctl -b:

    EDID is Extended Display Identification Data, information stored about you display's capabilities and geometry that are read by the video driver so provide automatic configuration.  The checksum error meant that there were inconsistencies in the data read.  No idea why.
    Edit,
    Oh, and welcome to Arch
    Thank you for the info and for the welcome. I will read more about EDID and drm.

    With journalctl, you have certainly discovered a powerful debugging tool.  It will no doublt come in handy along your learning adventures here.
    I will admit being very impressed by your use of code tags in a first post as a new Arch Linux user.  Bravo sir!
    Thank you also for your welcome and your advises. I  saw from other posts that the people here use some special style of representing code, so I searched a bit and clicked here and there and clicked on the BBCode link below the 'Quick post'-window and voila found the help site of the forum.

    I tried having my own 10-monitor.conf in xorg but it didn't work
    Please, does anybody know how can I fix this?
    Thanks in advance

    Sorry for that and thank you for your super fast response!!
    Should I try it in the file 10-monitor.conf in xorg? I added both lines in the monitor section of this file but it didn't work. Maybe my file is wrong and it's not helping (mysteriously my white conky color now looks purple).
    Also please how do I use code blocks? so I can post my 10-monitor.conf file?

  • COMS checksum is invalid, the COMS will be rest to default

    Hi,
    Product name: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment Notebook PC support).
    Product number: LM610EA#A2N Since I was facing an error 'The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly, I have cleaned the the fan, and even the heatsink(metal plate) with the paint thinner, and then I rebuild the fan in the heatsink. After that, I have applied new thermal compound on both of the tops of CPU and GPU. Finally: I have put in back my laptop all together.
    The error 'The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.' no longer appears to me. However, when starting my laptop, I face 'COMS checksum is invalid, the COMS will be rest to default',  although I was not facing this error before taking apart my laptop. (Why do I only now face this error 'COMS checksum is invalid, the COMS will be rest to default' ?
    The time and date was reset to  '01/01/2010 (12:04:44 AM)'
    I opened the BIOS, and then updated the time and date to the recent values. However, I saw the time and date came back to the wrong value when shut my laptop down and leave it for about 5 hours and turn it on again.
    However, when shutting it down for only minutes, and turn it on again, then I found the new configuration(new data and time) keeps as I set them up.
    Do you think that COMS was defective while removing it when taking apart my laptop

    Thank you very much indeed for your continual replies.
    To my surprise, my laptop was powered up again. But I would like you to kindly concentrate with what I would be going to say below?
    1- When my laptop is not powered up when trying powering it up yesterday, I have tried removing the COMS battery and then disconnecting the charger, and pressing the power button and holding it for 1 min. Finally: I waited 10 min and tried to connect the charger and power up the pc. , then it was powered up well.
    2- when I powered my laptop up, then the error 'COMS checksum is invalid, the COMS will be reset to default' appeared to me'. Then, I have booted to BIOS, and updated the date and time to the correct values.
    3- When I restarted my laptop, then the error 'The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.
    Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now', although I have fixed it by cleaning the fan/heatsink throughly before, and it was not appearing to me.
    4- Whenever I now start my laptop, only this error 'the system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.' appears to me. However, the 'COMS checksum is invalid,.....' no longer appears to me and the date and time are still correct whatever time my laptop stayed shut down.
    So, My questions are:
    1- do you think that the error 'the system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.' is related to 'COMS battery as long as when the error 'COMS checksum is invalid,....' appears to me, then the error 'the system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly' doesn't appear to me?
    2- Why does the error 'COMS checksum is invalid,....' no longer appear to me when the error 'the system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.' appears back to me.?

    How do I retain my apps after I change my apple ID? Right now I'm unable to update any of the apps with the old apple ID. I get an error message about an invalid id or Password. If I delete my appos and start over, I may lose the apps that I purchased (like the ones for $5 +....

    Apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them originally. Did you try entering your old password and see if that works?
    If you need to sign out of your old account go to Settings>Store>Tap on your ID and sign out. Sign in with the new one.
    you can also access your ID in the featured tab of the App Store. Swipe to the bottom of the screen and you will find it there as well.

  • Error Message - ORA-01722 Invalid Number

    Hello:
    I have the following situation. When I create an organization, a record is inserted into the following table, AGREEMENTS, and populates four fields.
    I have an update form which selects the organization from the AGREEMENTS table so the user can populate the rest of the table. In addition, on this form, there is a drop-down box which allows the user to select the name of a legal document along with the version of the document in which the user needs to select. This select list is created via an LOV joining three tables. The item name for this select list is :P6_DOCUMENT.
    The code for the LOV is:
    SELECT S.DOC_NAME||' - '|| O.VERSION_NO AS DOC, O.ORG_DOC_CURR_KEY
    FROM SUPPORTING_DOCS S,
         ORG_DOC_CURR_VER O,
         AGREEMENTS H
    WHERE
        S.DOC_TYPE = 'HISA'
    AND S.SUPPORTING_DOC_KEY = O.SUPPORTING_DOC_KEY
    AND H.ORG_KEY_LE = O.ORG_KEY
    AND O.ORG_KEY=:P6_ORG_KEY_LEWhen the user completes the form, the SUBMIT process is a PL/SQL block consisting of an UPDATE statement to update the AGREEMENTS table based on the selected organization and an INSERT statement to insert a record into the AGREEMENTS_DOC table to store the value stored in :P7_DOCUMENT.
    Ok, now here is where my problem starts.
    When I first bring up the form and I select the organization I want to update, I click the Search button to find the organization and I receive the following error message: ORA-01722 Invalid Number.
    At this point all I'm doing is a basic search. There is no insert/update or anything going on. I'm not understanding why I would be receiving this error message.
    The search is based on the database column ORG_KEY_LE whose datatype is NUMBER.
    In my application, the item assigned to ORG_KEY_LE is P6_ORG_KEY_LE.
    I have a PL/SQL block process created (On Load-Before Header) in the Page Rendering area of my page definition. The PL/SQL code that is written is:
    BEGIN
    IF :P6_SEARCH_ORG != '0' THEN
    :P6_ORG_KEY_LE := :P6_SEARCH_ORG;
    END IF;
    END;I then have an Item created, :P6_SEARCH_ORG, which is a Select List. In the LOV portion of the page for this item, I have the following:
    select ORG_KEY_LE display_value, ORG_KEY_LE return_value
    from AGREEMENTS
    order by 1The reason for using this table is because this table contains the newly created organization which needs to be updated with the remaining columns of data.
    I then have a Search button in the Button area which has the following settings:
    Button Position: Region Template Position #CHANGE#.
    Condition Type: Value of Item in Express 1 is NULL.
    Expression 1: :P6_ORG_KEY_LE.
    To troubleshoot this problem, I created two pages, one page to do the UPDATE and the second page to do the INSERT.
    The SEARCH functionality in both pages are identical.
    When I run my UPDATE page, which only involves updating the missing fields, the process works. I have my search box, I'm able to search for the organization, make my updates, and I'm good.
    When I run my INSERT page, which involves inserting the record with the assigned document, I receive the error message after I click the SEARCH button. In order to INSERT the record into this table, I first need to SELECT the organization that was UPDATED in the AGREEMENTS table (using the UPDATE page described in above paragraph). When I select the organization, the user can then assign the appropriate legal document to the organization and insert the record into the AGREEMENTS_DOC table.
    Can someone help me with this error message? I'm not sure why I am able to perform my SEARCH on a page with the UPDATE statement, not able to perform the SEARCH on the page with my INSERT statement, and not be able to perform the SEARCH on the page that combines the UPDATE and INSERT statements.
    I did some more troubleshooting and I do believe my SUBMIT process which contains the INSERT statement is the issue. I created a fourth page which doesn't have a SUBMIT process. I brought up the form, searched for my organization and the information for that organization appeared. The problem is definately with my UPDATE/INSERT process.
    The PL/SQL block for the Submit process is the following:
    BEGIN
    update
        MDD.HISA_AGREEMENTS
         set
           LAST_UPDATED_BY=V('APP_USER'),
           APPROVER_SALUTATION=:P6_APPROVER_SALUTATION,
           APPROVER_FIRST_NAME=:P6_APPROVER_FIRST_NAME,
           APPROVER_MIDDLE_INITIAL=:P6_APPROVER_MIDDLE_INITIAL,
           APPROVER_LAST_NAME=:P6_APPROVER_LAST_NAME,
           APPROVER_NAME_SUFFIX=:P6_APPROVER_NAME_SUFFIX,
           APPROVER_EMAIL_ADDR=:P6_APPROVER_EMAIL_ADDR,
           SPONSOR_EMAIL_ADDR=:P6_SPONSOR_EMAIL_ADDR,
           APPROVER_TITLE=:P6_APPROVER_TITLE
    where
          ORG_KEY_LE=:P6_ORG_KEY_LE
    INSERT INTO
        HISA_AGREEMENT_DOCS
          (HISA_AGREEMENT_DOC_KEY,
           ORG_KEY_LE,
           APPLICATION_KEY,
           STATUS,
           STATUS_DATE,
           CREATED_BY,
           ORG_DOC_CURR_KEY)
    VALUES
          (HISA_AGREEMENT_DOC_KEY_SEQ.NEXTVAL,
           :P6_ORG_KEY_LE,
           :P6_APPLICATION_KEY,
           'C',
           SYSDATE,
           V('APP_USER'),
           :P6_DOCUMENT)
    END;There is something wrong with the above statement and I do not understand what it could be. Can someone help?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
    I believe you are on to something.
    The select list for item :P6_DOCUMENT appears when I first bring up the form. When I select my organization and receive the error message, I clicked on the Session in the Developer's bar. The value in item/field :P6_DOCUMENT shows %null%.
    This is the path in which my user would like to accomplish her task:
    1. Select an organization
    2. Display the information for that organization from the AGREEMENTS table
    3. Enter the data for the remaining fields in the AGREEMENTS table
    4. Select the document (:P6_DOCUMENT) from the drop-down.
    5. Click Submit
    6. Update the AGREEMENTS table with data entered in #3.
    7. Insert a record into the AGREEMENTS_DOC table with the selection from #4.
    Somehow I need the :P6_DOCUMENT field not to show the %null% during the SEARCH functionality. I think that is causing the problem.
    How do I fix this?

    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
    I got error message "ORA-01722: invalid number". Please help

    Did you also change the below line before inserting Integer 123:
    cmd.Parameters.Add(":AMT", OracleDbType.Decimal, AmountValue, ParameterDirection.Input)
    to
    cmd.Parameters.Add(":AMT", OracleDbType.Integer, AmountValue, ParameterDirection.Input)

  • Itunes was working fine. Tries to install latest upgrade and get error message about an invalid character in the path "Program Files (x86)". PC, Win7, nothing else appears to be having same issue.

    Thanks b noir,
    I tried this solution without success. After FixIt ran and didn't find a problem, either in looking for issues with "software upgrade" or "iTunes" it kindly offered to help me uninstall iTunes. I had thought of this as a possibilty but it seems to me that if you do that you lose a lot of "non-native-to-Apple" information you might have entered. I did this once and recovery was painfull. Is there a way to uninstall iTunes without losing all of that sort of thing? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't open my IBA project: error parasing document index: invalid character in attribute value

    Hi guys,
    I am new of iBooks Author and I am not HTML code savvy (expect the very basics). I have to send an iBooks for an University exam and I can't open my file anymore.
    I was working on it since Saturday, I saved many times and I have quit the iBooks Author and rebooted my iMac few moments ago. There were no crashes.
    The project is a iBook with pictures, videos and some Tumult Hype animations. It is 248Mb.
    Now I can't open the file (but I can see it in quick view). The error message is in the subject, but here it is again:
    "Progetto iBooks" couldn't be opened. Error parsing document index: invalid character in attribute value.
    Now, I have to send the project today (here in Italy it is now 7:10 am) and so I am kind of desperate.
    Any suggestion?
    I am already working on making a new ibook, but if someone could give me a workaround to fix it and open it on iBooks I would be extremely grateful.
    Best regards,
    Sebastiano

    Hi Sebastiano,
    Did you ever get any answer? I have the same problem and now have to work from an old version again (good thing I had backup one manually!)
    Thx
    JP.
