Drobo megadrive plays with Time Capsule?

Please provide any input. I'm about to buy a TC but want to make sure i can attach a Drobo unit. Can I do that?

While it is possible to access the FS over SMB remotely, it isn't necessarily the best pratice.  This does not provide secure remote access to your data.   Only a VPN will provide strong  encryption to ensure data is secure when transmitted via the internet.  If you want to configure it anyway, you might want to check out this article:

  • Help with Time Capsule

I set up my new mac mini and hooked up it all up with my old router and all was fine. Solid internet connection. When I switched out router with Time Capsule, I cannot get an internet connection even thought it shows the wi-fi and ethernet is active.
I went in shopping today for a stronger router (better range and speed) and the sales man suggested the Time Capusle because it was a router with a built in hard drive for back-up.
Finally - i do have a broadband phone - so I have that thrown in the mix, but it worked fine with my old netgear router and the new mac mini.
I figured it would be a plug and play change. What am i missing?

You have done no setup.. what is your broadband type.. adsl or cable or other??
In any case how are you plugging the TC into whatever provides you internet.. if it is a modem it should be bridged.. and in the case of cable .. shut down and rebooted to allow it to connect. In the case of adsl, you should set the TC to pppoe connection.

  • Dropping connection with Time Capsule?

So, now that we have a new router - is anyone still have the connection drop out on them like AirPort Extreme was causing that plagued a lot of users? I haven't seen any comments on any of the usual mac boards that would suggest that random drop outs having been fixed somehow with Time Capsule.

Time Capsule has been one giant headache for me. It worked well with my MBP, but not my iMac. I'm constantly getting network drops, making the initial backup take forever. I got it friday morning and now it's Sat night and it still has not completed the initial backup (given it is about 200gigs of backup). It got quite a bit backed up at first and then dropped the connection. It kept what it had originally backed up, but since then, it doesn't seem to want to remember the progress it's making between each network drop. Also once I was moving a simple 5mb file from one computer to another and it took nearly 10-15mins. It hasn't done that since, thankfully. I was so excited about this product and now I'm severally let down. Apple needs to fix this network stability problems for their iMac C2Ds. It's getting frustrating, especially since I've ripped my DVD collection to an external HD and trying to use it as a media server to play off my PS (but obviously this won't work if the network keeps dropping out on me). I've used iStumbler and the network is always between 75-80% with less than 15% noise too, so the signal is fine. It's just for some reason iMac don't seem to want to hold on to their signal. I've even switched to keep a constant Channel vs using the Automatic setting, and I'm still getting drops (although much less frequently). I think I'm going to keep Time Capsule and giver it a while to see if the issues get worked out, but I may take it back if I can't get my stuff backed up and the network stable within the return period.

  • How do I add an Airport Extreme with Time Capsule to an existing non-Apple network?

How do I add an Airport Extreme with Time Capsule to an existing non-Apple network?  I have an ISP provided wireless Router that has to remain as the base station.  I am able to join my 1/2TB Airport Extreme and Airport Express to the network, but I can't access/use Time Machine.

One option would be to connect the Time Capsule (TC) to the ISP-provided wireless router by Ethernet. You can then configure the for a roaming network. Then, depending on what your goal is for the AirPort Express, you can either: 1) Add it to roaming network, 2) Configure the TC & the Express for an "extended" network, or 3) Configure the Express to "join" the roaming network for AirPlay.

  • How to connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

How can I connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable.  If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it.  Time Machine can access it either way.

  • Can I use Extreme with Time Capsule to extend my gateway router and still use Capsule as "external HD"?

Bought Airport Extreme with Time Capsule version 7.7.2 with 2 Terabytes Feb 2014. It was probably an expensive mistake, but after searching for weeks for a external hard drive, it seemed reasonably priced to just use the capsule as my external hard drive for the price I paid. Spend an hour with Apple Care to get it working-had to use ethernet cord to my iMac OS 10.8.5 processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I did not "need" the airport as we have a Winstream SAGEMCOM modem/router (Sagemfast 1704) But, I was desperate and about to lose my old external hard drive with literally had 3 computers worth of information on it. It had already "died" once, but got it back, so once I got the airport/capsule and was told I just paid for an expensive HD, I had no time to take it back to get something else-I had to transfer my info right then. We (Apple Care) could not get it to work as a HD wirelessly. It may be because it was being set up for the first time; I don't know. I was hoping I would get a transcript of all done so I could do it myself if needed later on, but when I looked at my email-they didn't do that. (Don't know if that is normal, I was used to other "techs" sending the email.) So now I really want to try to move my airport and "extend" our wifi as it said on the "box" that you could do...
Our Windstream router had to be placed in the lower level at the bottom of our stairs. The stairway is "open" (no door going down the steps). I want to place the Extreme at the top of the stairs so that we can use some things in our offices or not have Netflix on our TV lose connectivity when we all are on our computers.
I know I need an ethernet cord to connect directly with the modem/router to the Airport Extreme.  I don't know what I will need to do after I connect it as it was so goofy when we set it up the first time (With the app it would disappear and not show up..) But my biggest concern is will I be able to still use the capsule as my hard drive and will I be able to do it wirelessly? (Even with it connected by ethernet, every day I have to re-connect to it before I can click on anything on the hard drive. It never shows up on it's own as my old HD did. That drives me nuts.) I do back up using the Time Capsule feature as well. I appreciate any help.

I am still willing to plug in the ethernet cord to the modem/router and try it IF I was able to get a step by step instructions..
Connecting the Time Capsule (TC) to the existing Winstream by Ethernet would be the basis for a roaming type network. This type of network allows you to basically "roam" with a wireless client and connect to either router. This, in essence, would provide you with an "extended" wireless network. The Apple routers can work with just about any manufacturers' routers in this fashion.
The keys to having a successful roaming network are as follows:
The routers must be interconnected by Ethernet.
Both routers will broadcast their own Wi-Fi network, but MUST use the same Network Name (or SSID), wireless security type (WPA or WPA2), and wireless password.
The TC MUST be reconfigured as a bridge.
Connect a single Ethernet cable between one of the Winstream's LAN ports and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the TC.
    The basic steps are:
    Power-down the Winstream.
Perform a "factory default" reset on the TC. Leave the TC powered-down after the reset has completed.
Connect the TC to the Winstream using an Ethernet cable.
Power-up the Winstream. Wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it to initialize.
Power-up the TC. Wait at least 5 minutes to allow it to initialize. (Note: Since we just reset the TC it will be performing as a wireless router that will be broadcasting an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN)
Connect your computer to the Winstream's Wi-Fi network.
Run the AirPort Utility. select the TC, and then, select Edit.
    Go to the Network tab.
Change the Router Mode option to: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Select the Wireless tab.
Verify that the Network Mode option is set to: Create a wireless network
For Wireless Network Name, enter the Wi-Fi network name used by the Winstream.
For Wireless Security, select the equivalent security type that is used by the Winstream. (Note: Use "WPA/WPA2 Personal" if the Winstream is using WPA/TKIP. Use "WPA2 Personal" is the Winstream is using WPA2/AES.
For Wireless Password, enter the same password used by the Winstream.
Select Update and allow the TC to restart.
As far as your external HD, yes you should still be able to use it as before.

  • Can we share our photos in the family on different mac´s with Time Capsule?

Can we share our photos in the family on different mac´s with Time Capsule?

It depends on the size and number of photos you are sharing around.
Nothing wrong with putting a copy of the photos on the TC if that works for you. Each person can access the photo just fine like that.
I am not saying don't.. just beware of the risks so do it prudently..
But if the library is too large, you will steal space on the TC that should be used for backups.. if all the computers in the network are backing up to it, don't use too much of the spare space.
Better to buy a firewire drive (or USB but firewire 800 are much faster) and connect it to a computer that is regularly turned on. Share that drive to the network. It will then also be backed up correctly to the TC although again be careful of the amount of files, and still keep a straight copy backup somewhere else.
I am recent convert so workflow on the Mac is not my forte.. so perhaps some of the wiser heads can also drop in and post a reply.

  • Backing up Mac HD with Time Capsule AND an external hard drive

I am sure that this question has been asked one way or another but I can't seem to find the exact answer.
I would like to back up my Mac HD with the Time Capsule AND another hard drive essentially to create two backups. Should one fail, I still have another copy as a precaution. The Time Capsule will be my primary back up because my external hard drive is usually switched off and will only be turned on from time to time to perform "less frequent" backups.
With Time Capsule AND the external hard drive on, will Time Machine just update the backup on the external hard drive without becoming confused with the other copy on Time Capsule? In other words, can Time Machine distinguish between two different Time Machine Backup files and bring them up to date accordingly?
I understand there is an archive function on the Time Capsule, which would also serve the purpose. However, I am wondering if there is another way.
    Thanks.

I don't think it's possible to configure Time Machine to back up to two locations without modifying its settings frequently.
You might consider using that external drive to hold a bootable backup. You can create such a thing with either of the utilities SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you pay the registration fee for SuperDuper! (~US$28), there's a mode where it will back up only what has changed, which makes the backup operation run quicker. (Carbon Copy Cloner may offer a similar feature.)

  • Setting up new HP Laserjet CP1525nw wirelessly with Time Capsule

Im having issues setting up my new HP Laser printer via wirelessly with Time Capsule. I have tried with the Wireless Client Setup
Assistant but cannot get it to work. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I tried to get the CP1525nw set up on my computer here at the office and found, much to my chagrin, that the CP1525 is not supported under 10.7 and retroactively not supported under 10.6. The way that I have found to get around the issue is to connect it wirelessly via a static IP address and use a generic postscript driver. I'm hoping that they will release a driver to Apple soon, but until then, generic is the only way to go and I have not found any print quality issues.

  • Initial Time Machine Backup with Time Capsule

    Hello,
I just started to back everything up with Time Capsule and Time Machine. The backup is 45 GB so it's going to take a while. Two questions:
    1. There is a Volume created on my Desktop called "Backup of [My Computer Name]". Is this supposed to happen?
    2. In the actual drive, there is a Sparse file, not the usual backups.backupdb folder that is created when attaching a drive via USB. Is this supposed to be like that as well?
    Thanks!

Thank you for the response. I have a couple more questions.
    1. Is there a way to manually go through the files? I used to be able to when it was backing up locally through USB.
    2. If I change the folder name of the location of the Time Machine backups, do I have to start my backups all over again?
    Thanks!

  • How do you back up an external hard drive with time capsule?

how do you back up an external hard drive with time capsule?

Will time capsule back up the machine and the hard drive that is plugged into the machine?
Yes, if the hard drive with the video files is formatted correctly for Mac
On the Mac with the hard drive connected....click on the Time Machine "clock" icon at the top of the screen
    Click Time Machine Preferences
    Click Options
Here you will see a list of items that have been excluded from backups
Click the name of the hard drive to highlight it
Click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the hard drive from the list of excluded items
The hard drive will now be backed up with your Mac on the next pass that Time Machine makes

  • No internet with Time Capsule

I cant get internet through my time capsule. When i run network diagnostics, the network status says that:
Airport, Airport Settings, Network Settings and ISP are fine, but the Internet and Server have failed.
I use a cable modem from virgin media.

I've just installed time capsule with one airport extreme - which is all working fine except that I now can't get into the internet: somehow, I've ended up with two wifi networks - a new one one that the Time Capsule works with but no internet and one that connects me to the internet but not Time Capsule (the wifi network I had beforehand)
I've connected my original wireless modem to the Time Capsule via an ethernet cable. Airport utilities tells me this cable is not connected so I suspect the problem is something to do with that.
Do I need a wireless modem at all with Time Capsule?
Unless you expect problems with range, you might try replacing your AirPort Extreme with the Time Capsule. There are ways to get them to work together, but you'll probably be happier and have less hassle just doing the replacement.
I'd start by using the "Manual Setup" option of AirPort Utility to do a "File -> Save A Copy As..." of your existing AIrPort Extreme configuration. Then connect the Time Capsule in its place and use "File -> Import..." to bring your old settings into the TIme Capsule. There are probably some things you'll need to tweak, but the old settings will at least get you going in the right direction.

  • I cant back up my mac with time capsule.

While trying to back up my imac with time capsule it stops at the same point and says there is an error.  Techtool deluxe scan revealed I have errors in volume structure, surface scan, and directory scan. All 3 say i should reformat the media, replace the data and test again. How do i do this?

What does the error message say?  It's likely one of the messages in #C3 of  Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
