Droid 2 Global Not acting very global

I just upgraded my Blackberry Storm 1 to a Droid 2 Global.  I worked through Verizon support to ensure the Droid 2 Global is enabled for international use, and used the *228 feature before leaving the US as instructed.  I also had Verizon support unlock the old Blackberry just in case the Droid 2 Global had any issues.
I am glad I have the unlocked Blackberry!  The Droid 2 should have been a direct device upgrade so I am assuming it is enabled in the countries I frequently travel.  So far the Blackberry is still connecting everywhere with a strong 3G signal.
The Droid 2 Global on the other hand is spotty.  It connects in Shenzhen, China with no issue, yet can only see a signal in Hong Kong and refuses to connect.  Now in the Philippines the Droid 2 Global works in Manila but fails to find any service in Laguna (25km south).
In the mean-time the Blackberry is working just fine with a European global SIM card.
I cannot figure out if I have a Verizon issue, or if the Droid 2 Global is an inferior device.  Rebooting and fiddling with the network options has no effect.   Has anyone had these problems and figured out how to resolve them?  Verizon e-mail support has not responded either.

I assume that the Global isn't unlocked?   I haven't had issues with the Global (but some have).  If possible, try putting the SIM from the Global into the Blackberry, and see if the connection is still good.  If not, it might just be that the European SIM works with more providers than the Vodafone one  (that, and the costs of calling, are why I always prefer local SIMs!)

  • Droid 2 Global: OGG supported as ringtone, but not as a playable music file?

I've been having some trouble playing .ogg music in the music player (by trouble I mean it comes back as mostly static), though Android 2.2 is supposed to support ogg natively. Motorola's site on the Droid 2 Global shows something interesting: http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/ci.DROID2-Global-US-EN.alt
It lists ogg under supported ringtones but not under Playable formates. Huh? What gives? I've even tried different players that are supposed to support ogg on this phone but they do nothing. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? How is it that the ringtone can play it but the player cannot, even though Android 2.2 supports the formate?

Oh me of little faith. The replacement phone syncs both ways. I guess there must be some data corruption that persists past a hard reset.

For most advanced devices, Data Roaming must be enabled to access data.  To check this setting on your Droid 2 Global please follow these steps:
Enabling data roaming may incur roaming charges.
From the home screen, select the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
    Select Settings.
    Select Data manager.
    Select Data Delivery.
    Select Data roaming.
Enabled when a green check mark is present.
If presented and if agreeable to possible roaming charges, select OK.

Wow, so if you get it to work on either GSM or CDMA it is $2.89 per minute!   If you are there for some time, get a local SIM, e.g. http://www.mrsimcard.com/s-digicelpos.html. for about 50 cents per min.  Note you would need to get Verizon Global to unlock your phone, and you would have a different phone number.

  • !yahoo mail not working on droid 2 global!

I tried deleting the account on my droid and then reinstalling it and it won't reinstall. I get the message "Login to the account failed, please try again." I went into yahoo on a laptop changed my password and tried again, still not working... I'm working on wi-fi because I don't get good reception in my home.
    HELP!

I don't have a droid 2 global (I have a bionic) but I was suffering from the same problems after I received a replacement.  Luckily after suffering for a month (i resorted to using the Yahoo mail app for a while, but I couldnt stand it), I finally fixed mine and I thought I'd share in case it might help you guys.
    1. I went to "My Accounts", clicked on the "Email" option,
    2. Entered in my Yahoo information, unclicked the check that says "automatically configure account"
    3. Under Incoming server, select "IMAP mail server" from the drop down menu, and in the server name, put "imap.mail.yahoo.com"
    4. Under Outgoing server, put "stmp.mail.yahoo.com"
    5. Click OK, and hopefully all of your emails will suddenly work like mine (No more of the "Login to the account failed, please try again")
This link below helped me out (click the imap tab):

  • Droid 2 Global not receiving texts

    Hi.
This just started happening yesterday. Haven't downloaded any apps for weeks, so nothing done to my phone.
I just decided to clean my phone one day and turned it off, took out the battery, blew a little bit inside and under the screen to try and clean it. Put everything back, turned on phone, and instantly got like 5 text messages from different people.
I confirmed with the senders they were from the day before
That evening, I texted someone in the same room as me, they successfully receive. But when they send texts to me, I never receive, and still to this point, have not received.
    TO SUM IT UP:
not receiving texts, or receiving text over 24 hours later, in random order
    using default phone text program
from other verizon users, and other sprint users
    I have a Motorola Droid 2 Global, android 2.2
been a customer for... 5 months

i hated at&t for bad reception but at least all my txt's went through.... and i honesty can't say Verizon's reception is any better
hints/tips that you tried with the same issue and worked?

    Hi bananas,
I see that you did some basic troubleshooting according to your other post. I would recommend to clear the text message Data and Cache to clear any files interfering with your incoming messages. Open your text messaging application and follow the path below:
Menu>Settings>Applications>ManageApplications>All>Messages>ClearData & ClearCache (if not grayed out).
Please save any important messages you currently have (the steps above may delete all your current message and cannot be recovered) by sending then to yourself via email.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, the next troubleshooting steps is to do a Hard Reset which will bring your phone to original factory settings.
Please keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

  • Droid 2 Global screen problems, vibrate problems, basically just a lot of problems?

So, I've had my Droid 2 Global (Gingerbread 2.3.4) for about a year and a half, and ever since I got it I've had problems with the touchscreen. I have not rooted or customized the phone in any way, nor have I ever damaged the phone or gotten it wet.
Windows will open by themselves, the music player and maps constantly open by themselves and drain the battery, any time I'm trying to send a text the keyboard goes haywire and will send "wttttttyuuuuttt" and nonsense like that to anyone on my 'recently texted' list. It takes about 10 minutes to send a simple text because the screen won't stop shaking and displaying random letters. It's not just when I'm touching it either. I've had it call random numbers and vibrate for no reason when I'm asleep and it's on my bedside table.
I took this phone to the verizon store when I first got it, they "fixed" it, but an hour later it was back to being glitchy. I took it back, they told me to do a hard reset, it didn't help at all. I tried restarting the phone in safe mode several times (the most recent time being this morning) but the screen shaking and random apps opening issues are even worse in safe mode than in regular mode.
I was wondering if anyone else had these kind of problems, and if so, how would I go about fixing them? Honestly I'm planning on getting rid of this phone in a few weeks but if there's anything I've overlooked I want to check it out.

Hello hammerofasgard! Love the handle, by the way. I'm a Thor fan, too!!
Sounds like you've been having some very frustrating and inconvenient issues with your Droid 2 Global. I have one that I still use but have never seen the behaviors you've described (except for the battery drain, but that's something that was easily managed by just keeping a charger handy). You mentioned having taken the D2G to one of our retail locations for assistance, and that the device reverted to it's previous behavior an hour later.
I'm curious to know if the reps on our store performed a master reset (taking the device back to factory settings). If they did, did you have any of the same apps or settings restored to the device during that hour?

  • Droid 2 Global-Cannot Send or Receive Text messages

I have a Droid 2 Global and the text messaging is not working. Whenever I try to send a text I get a message that it has not been sent. I also asked a friend to text me, and the text did not come through. I tried rebooting the phone (removing the battery and such), but that was to no avail. I am unable to send or receive text messages. Does anyone have suggestions?

Wow that must be very inconvenient! Do you know when you last able to send or receive a successful message? Are you able to send and receive e-mails? Is it possible you have a message blocking feature on your account? Are you using a third party messaging app or the standard messaging application from the handset?

  • Droid 2 Global Exchange

    Hi,
I currently have a Droid 2 Global, and I'm not very happy with it. I was wondering if there was any way for me to upgrade or exchange it with the Droid X without paying a bunch of money?
    -Nick

If you are within 14 days of purchase, you can return your phone for a full refund less a $35 restocking fee and upgrade to another phone later, or you can do one exchange at no cost to a different model (you will pay the price difference between the two phones if there is one).
If you are past 14 days since your purchase, then your no, Verizon will not accept the phone as a return.  If you want a different phone, you can buy one used, or pay full retail through Verizon.  Once you activate another phone on your line, you could sell the current Droid 2 to someone else if you like to recoup some of the costs.
Your other options are to use an upgrade from another line on your account (if you are on a Family Share plan and have another line that is currently eligible), or add a line to your plan.

  • Droid 2 Global - FM radio

I just bought the Droid 2 Global.
Please tell me it has FM Radio ready to go on it.
That's like the main reason I bought it.
This is my first smart phone. I can't find anything on it.
I thought I saw an FM Radio Icon on it somewhere but now I can't find it.
Also the Verizon Review video said it had it on there.
If it does not I am returning it.
Can anyone tell me how to find it?

You're lucky, because I also have a Droid 2. Yes, your Droid does have FM built in. However, like the Droid X, you need an ear piece plugged in, and for the same reason, it acts as an FM antenna.

On the Droid 2 Global?   Certainly not an installed app, the instructions I have seen seem to need, um, special permissions, and the end result is FM out of only one earpiece.

  • Droid 2 Global Apps Force Closing Constantly

Hi, I had my Droid 2 Global for about a year. Last week, it started to lock up, and the screen began to randomly select locations and do sporadic scrolling. It was completely unusable. Fortunately (or so I thought) I was under warranty and got a free replacement. This phone has its own plethora of problem right out of the box. For starters, the speaker sounds like it was blown by the previous owner (it's factory re-certified, which they claim has a 100+ point inspection, you would think that the speaker would be one of those...), and additionally the apps on the phone constantly crash and close to the desktop. Most the the apps crash between immediately upon opening, or within 30 seconds. The most troublesome apps so far have been the stock Calendar and Browser apps, and Facebook. Those are 3 of my 4 most commonly used apps on my phone, so it's basically worthless to me now. I've only had this replacement for 6 days.
I don't want to fork over 300 dollars plus pay for an early upgrade again (had to do that when my last android phone died after 53 weeks, with a 52 week warranty, to which Verizon said "Too bad, so sad." That's when I got the Droid 2 Global, which lasted about 54 weeks. I'm getting very suspicious here, though I try to avoid conspiracy theories. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? I don't have many apps installed besides the stock apps that come on it, maybe 20 or so, half of which are various Google apps (Docs, Skymap, Voice, etc) I'm hesitant to try for another replacement because it will be another hassle and likely just another broken piece of junk.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The speaker problem is present at all volume levels, but is less noticeable if the volume is below about 25%.
I had Lookout mobile security installed, so per your direction I uninstalled it and restarted the phone. Apps still randomly crash. Sometimes they will be open and work fine, and a few times a day they get into a rut where they crash quickly after opening, and will crash every time they are opened after that. It seems like if I pull the battery for 30 seconds, then replace and power on again the problem seems to go away. It has persisted with a regular power down/back on. All of the apps I have currently were on my original Droid 2 Global, and I never had this issue with apps crashing, so I don't suspect they they are the cause, but I won't rule it out.

Hello brian_g05 I was very upset after reading your post. You should have a good replacement device! Yes our replacements do pass an inspection prior to being shipped out. There shouldn't be any issue with the speaker. Let's look into this with you. Do you have the device on the loudest setting? If so please turn down by 1 and retest. Do you experience this problem with device on speakerphone or when playing music? The problem with the applications crashing may be related to one of the 20 downloaded applications or a combination of the applications. Do you have any antivirus or advanced task killer applications installed? If so please remove and retest. Please power the device in safe mode and see if it crashes when using the browser. Here's a link for safe mode: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=37821 Please try these steps and let me know if you still run into any issues. • Droid 2 Global - draining fast.

My Droid 2 Global battery seems fine for hours, until I try to use it.  Then if I'm doing ANYTHING on the phone, it's completely dead in about an hour.  I uninstalled a ton of apps recently but no improvement, I can't figure out what is causing this.  I have a battery app installed that says the battery is healthy but I'm not sure how much those can be trusted. For the longest time my phone has on a rare occasion gone haywire where it starts to do things on its own as well.  Another thing it does more frequently is freeze up so I have to hit power and unlock it again to get it responding.  Maybe those clues will help with the diagnosis.
I was going to try rebooting in safe mode off another discussion but the instructions didn't make sense for this particular phone.  Please, someone help!
    Thank you,
    Ian

Hey there icbarefoot. It sounds like your Droid 2 Global is acting up in its old age and I absolutely want to help revive it.
Safe mode is a step in the right direction.  It will help us determine if the issue is being caused by a third party application. For steps on how to put your device in safe mode please visit, http://vz.to/r7xUJM.
If the issue still occurs in safe mode, the next step would to complete a master reset on the device to put it back to its default settings. For steps on how to complete a master reset please visit,http://vz.to/rqKDhh.
Please keep us updated with results.

  • Droid 2 Global Help

I just had to order a replacement Droid 2 Global phone because the phone screen just seemed to slowly fade out and then not work at all. The phone is on and seems to function only I can't use it because nothing is visible.  I don't know if my pics/videos were saved to the phone itself or the SD card.  My question is is there anyway to get these saved to the card since I can't get to any of the settings to double check?  PLEASE HELP! I have all of my 9 month old pics and videos on here since she was born and I'm going to be devistated if I lose them, which seems to be what is going to happen...

I have had both the original Droid and now the Droid 2 Global.  I have had so many problems with the Droid 2 Global phone.  I don't know what to do with it besides throw it out and go to a different company looking for an actual decent phone.  Some of the problems I currently have or have had with this phone:
*Shuts off randomly, several times a day.
*Screen goes nuts, like having a severe seizure and then will have to turn it off to stop it.
*Screen goes crazy and will act like I've touched an app or start dialing random numbers, has even is done it with texts.
    *Battery life is horrible.
*Most apps freeze and if I'm lucky, I won't have to take the battery out to restart the phone.
*I can't get the screen to turn on (even if the phone is on)  unless I hold down the button on the top for atleast a minute.
If anyone has had similar issues to these, and knows of solutions I would greatly appreciate it.  I'm not talking about getting a refurbished phone either, that definitely won't solve my problems.  The refurbished phone will last a week and something will go wrong with it.
I'm so fed up with dealing with this phone I just want to throw it out the window.
    Thanks.
Well, it really sounds like your particular phone is defective and, as the other poster said, it IS probably worth getting a refurbished one.  My first refurbished did have a problem, but the second one has worked fine for 9 months so far.
Are you running Gingerbread or Froyo?  Many of us (but not all, see the comments here!) found GB makes the phone much better.

  • Class 6 SD card causes problems / lock ups in Droid 2 Global

My Droid 2 Global phone came with an 8GB SD card and I want to increase it to a 16GB card.  I purchased an adata 16GB Class 6 micro SD card.
I copied all my data from my 8GB card to my laptop.  I then copied the data from the laptop to the 16GB card.  Put it in the phone and started the phone.
The phone had difficulty seeing the SD card and locked up.  Removed battery, reinstalled, restarted.  Similar problem.  Tried various apps and calls - worked (poorly) on some tasks, and locked up on others.
Formatted the card in the camera and then used the USB cable to move data from the laptop - similar symptoms.
Formatted the card in the laptop, placed the card in the phone, and used the USB to copy data to the card - same problems.
Stepped up the process by performing a hard reset on the phone, formatting the SD card, reinstalled apps and tested before adding personal data - still locks up.
I reset the phone again and put my original 8GB card in - once apps were reinstalled and data was pulled onto the card and everything works normally.
I really want to use the larger SD card, but I haven't been able to get it functioning..
I even saw a message somewhere that stated the Droid 2 has problems with Class 6 cards but have found nothing supporting that concept.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Grandpa777

When I replaced the SD in my D2G card with a 16GB one, I researched several cards and class ratings.  Two things seemed to crop up over and over.  Class ratings as an indication of maximum speed are not the same across manufacturers.  Some Class 2 were faster than Class 4 and class 4 faster than Class 6, etc.  Not all, but it was a crap shoot.  Second, Class 10 cards did not work well in all Droids, nor did some Class 6. So I bought the following:
SanDisk 16 GB microSDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDQ-016G Class 2.
It has worked flawlessly for 8 months.  And seems fast enough for my needs.
My recommendation, for what it's worth: Buy a 16GB SanDisk SD card no higher than Class 4.

  • Two Droid 2 Global phones - Flaky since software update

I have two Droid 2 Global phones which were purchased at the same time.  Ever since the last software update, which I believe was the Gingerbread update, these phones have been acting flaky in several ways with various features just shutting down and only a restart of the phone able to make them work again.  Both phones have been having the exact same problems so that leads me to believe it is likely software related.
    1) It quits ringing...even with ringing volume turned all the way up, incoming calls just don't ring. Same with text messages.  Restarting phone fixes the problem.
    2) The camera will take a picture, but when you go to look at it in the gallery, it is just a blank image.  Unless you go look at the gallery, you have no way of knowing the picture didn't take.  Once again, restarting the phone fixes this.
    3)  I have similar issues with the bluetooth.  I sync it up to my car stereo, but sometimes it just won't sync until I restart the phone.
With the age of these phones, I suspect there are no more software updates on the way from Verizon.  Can anyone confirm that?  Unfortunately, the last software update also prevented <Deleted per the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service.>  Any suggestions on how to get these phones some sort of software update or useful again?  A phone that doesn't ring isn't much use.

        Hi jksoft,
I know how troubling these difficulties can be especially when it's happening to two lines of service. I extensively researched this trouble in our database as well as Motorola's and was unable to find this as any known trouble. The gingerbread update was the last release for the Droid 2 and no expected changes as of now.
Are you using the ringtones and notifications that are preloaded in the phone or the ones you have obtained elsewhere? If you haven't tried it yet, please use a notification tone and ringtone that is from the device itself. Let me know if this makes the device work correctly.
The trouble with camera and bluetooth don't have troubleshooting steps other than doing a hard reset of the device. This will completely wipe out the device but items like contacts and media can be backed up. To complete the reset go to http://bit.ly/rqKDhh and follow the steps for the preferred method. Please keep us posted as we may need to file an investigation with Motorola to review this.

  • Signing up for a new plan with Droid 2 global

I want to sign up for a new plan (I am not a current verizon customer), switching from Tmobile. The problem is that the phone I want is the droid 2 global, which I cant get in stores until the 29th. I could order online, but I wont be at my home for the next few weeks to pick up the phone.
There is a verizon store where I am going, but I will not be able to sign up for the new plan from there (due to some un related reasons that you dont need to worry about)
My main question is, is there a way for me to sign up for verizon's services before monday the 29th, and only pick up the phone from a different store later?

What is the point in signing up for the services before you have the phone?  Your current T-Mobile device will not work with Verizon.  If you have a Verizon phone already, you can call in or go to the store and ask to have the device activated on month-to-month service and port your number over if you wish.  You'll then have service on your Verizon phone, but no contract, leaving you free to sign a contract and get the Droid 2 at the subsidized price when and where you wish.
If you don't have a Verizon phone, you'd just be paying for service you can't use, so why not wait until the Droid 2 is available at the store you want to buy it from?
