Droid 3 software patch?

Holy cow! I thought maybe I was having a problem adjusting to the Droid 3 keys but this thing is obviously full of bugs. The slide out keyboard has a mind of it's own. I end up with all sorts of symbols, unintended periods and jibberish. After searching online I found this was software issue also involved with the regularly failing backup assistant, camera issues and battery life,
Soooooooo.....why aren't there any mentions of this issue here? Why isn't there a Droid 3 forum and most importantly...

I understand your discontent; I would be frustrated if my phone's keyboard did not work as expected. Upon some research it appears that the issues outlined in your post may be caused by third party applications conflicts. Please run your phone in Safe Mode and see if issues re-occur. Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue.
If your phone works properly in Safe Mode, you will have to remove the conflicting application. Lamentably there is no way to identify the conflicting application so you may have to remove several (or all 3rd party applications) and re-install one by one in order to identify the conflicting application.
If issues continue while running in Safe Mode, the next troubleshooting step is to do a Factory Reset.
While a Software Update is expected to be released soon for the Droid 3, the information about this update does not mention any resolution for physical keyboard issues.

2.3.3 software patch update (Don't get too excited) and my experiences so far.

I have been having some issues with my Droid X since the 2.3.3 update. I deleted apps and hard reset my phone amongst other things. Last Saturday night, the phone froze up while selecting a wallpaper.....after a bunch of running around a manager at a flagship Verizon store was able to go into the boot menu and hard reset the phone again. The manager noted that the software crashed on my phone and she had done 4 master resets on her Samsung Fascinate over the last year. After a couple of days, it started acting sluggish and power cycling only helped for a couple of hours.
A blogger on this site wrote, recently, that he spoke to to a level 1 and 2 Verizon tech's and one of them said that a software patch for Android 2.3.3 is going to be issued any day now. I took that as good news, but decided to call Verizon myself and see what was up. I spoke to a level 1 tech and he transferred me to a 'Droid Specialist' and she contacted Motorola while I was on hold. After she spoke with the Motorola person, she told me that Motorola officially isn't preparing a software patch and also said that Verizon Wireless has no knowledge of one coming in the near future. She said she would note my issues for future reference in case anyone else was having problems. I politely pointed out that there are issues all over the Verizon Motorola Droid X blog and on Motorola's own blog on the Droid X. A manager of the DX forum on the Motorola website said that Motorola was working on a patch but it wasn't ready yet. The nice lady offered me a replacement DX, since there was no official word that a patch was nearing release. The phone came yesterday and I transferred my battery and SD card and powered it up and activated it. It worked MUCH BETTER than my other DX. The functionality of the OS was better as a whole and the phone and a lot of the glitches I had noticed on my old phone were gone on this one. The calendar works as advertised, my playlists for music now function correctly, Bluetooth connects instantly etc. I realize when you get a 'like new' phone, it's a roll of the dice. I got a good one this time and am sending the old one back.
I have been told, more than once, on this blog that I should wipe my phone before the software update. I ended up wiping it not too long after based on advise I read on this blog. I am not rooted and have a minimum of apps installed and still had problems. This phone is advertised by Motorola and Verizon as being able to have anything thrown it and it will handle it because of it's impressive processing power. As many apps as you want etc. Yet the main theme I see on the DX blog is to check and remove apps that may be causing the phone to malfunction. I realize Android is an open source OS and anyone can publish an app & know there are some bad ones out there.
There are people, including myself, who have had problems since the update. Some don't take the correct steps and have phone issues because of that, other people read the blogs, do the right things and some still have trouble with their phone.
The techs at Verizon were great to deal with. The 'Droid Specialist' took the time to speak to someone at Motorola about my issues. Her decision, based on my issues was to offer me a 'like new' phone. The 'like new' phone is great, no issues that I can think of actually other than the hardware keys stay brightly lit when in the night dock. Thanks Verizon!

I can see why that issue would be frustrating. I would like to help with this issue. What is happening when you try to send email? Also, you said you can't locate your AOL account. Have you looked in Settings>Accounts? It should list any email accounts you have setup there. If it is not there, try clearing your cache from your email. Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Email>Clear data/cache. Then try to setup your email again.

The error log file may help you in identifying the problem. Then, try updating again. If the problems persist, contact customer support for further assistance. Welllll, when I try contacting customer support, the automated response I receive is that I don't have a privileges for this type of customer support (maybe because I'm a student using the educational version?) I also tried downloading by going through updates while PS was launched.

Best Practices to do software Patching and Software Deployment for bigger environment like 300 K computers

i am looking for low level suggestions and a ppt/document etc too , The client base is 300 k users and spread globally ( major in three different regions), the requirement is
1) methodology to do software patching, can we patch all in one go or do we have to divide as per region etc
2) How many clients can be targeted for software patching in one go ( ex : can we target 20K clients in one go ?), i know there are other factors too will play key role here like band width etc , but i am looking answers out of real time experience
3) What Methodology to follow when it comes to critical/emergency updates ?

There is no single best practice to patching, if there were then SCCM would ship preconfigured :). As an example, Microsoft internally patches 300,000 workstations with 98% success in about a week according to their own podcast:

That said, I do follow a few rules when building a patching plan for a client. Maybe you'll find it helpful:
Always use a "soak tier". I forget where I first heard the term, but the idea is to have a good cross section of users get patches one or more weeks before your general deployment. This will help identify potential issues with a patch
before it hits general release. Make sure said group is NOT just the IT department ... we make the worst guinea pigs (we aren't known for closing out end of the month billing or posting legal documents).
When it comes to workstations, avoid needlessly phased deployment. 99% of the time, using local time zones is enough of a phased deployment. Unlike servers with very particular boot and patching orders, workstations can simply be patched. You
have enough collections in your environment ... so any new collection for patching should be justified.
Keep your ADR count down. It's tempting to build a new ADR for everything (workstations, general servers, exchange servers, etc.). Problem is that best practice also has you building a new SUG every time each ADR runs ... so you end up getting
flooded with update groups and that much more maintenance. When possible simply use maintenance windows to break up patching schedules instead of using mostly duplicate ADRs that simply have separate start dates.
Use Orchastrator. To me Orchastrator is to Software Updates what MDT is to Operating System Deployments: effectively mandatory. Even if you don't have complicated cluster updates you need to automate with SCO integrated to SCCM (there
are great examples on the web if you do), you can at the very least create run-books to manage that monthly maintenance you otherwise have to handle manually in SCCM (which is a lot IMO). I have monthly run-books that delete expired updates from SUGs,
consoldate SUGs older than 6 months unto a single annual group, and even create new update packages (and update all ADRs to use them) every 6 months to keep a single repository from getting too large.
I'm sure others out there can give you more advice ... but that's my two cents.

Using system update to apply fingerprint software patch 7261 doesn't work. Just says it didn't install.
I downloaded the patch separately. Seems to run fine, though only once did it say 'system restart necessary'. But in no case does it 'take' - that is, after a restart, the installed fingerprint software is still 5.9.7, v7226.
It's not a huge issue, but Lenovo's fingerprint software is always hit or miss, and I always hope the next update will fix it.

I'm aware that the patch doesn't install in TVSU. And the patch only modifies/updates 1 file, it does not change the version of the fingerprint software that is installed.
This week there should be a new version 5.9.8 of fingerprint software for Win7. This version will include the patch file and other fixes that have been picked up along the way.
Sorry for this trouble with the patch.

How large is your "dmgr" folder?? Mine contains 11 folders, but consumes about 2K of space. (Most folders are empty.) I don't know exactly what these directories do (storage space for Java apps?), but wouldn't recommend deleting anything unless you know what program(s) it would affect and are willing to accept it ceasing to run. (If the Java app is something you installed yourself, better to remove and then reinstall it through the OS.)
Are you sure the "dmgr" folders are the biggest problem? Two specific software patches hung in Software Center

I have never seen this before and can't find any google hits on it. I have one client on which two specific Microsoft patches seem hung. This has been going on for two days. Yesterday I manually installed these patches and I can tell my version numbers
that they worked. When I've done this before, the patches would clear out of Software Center because it'd detect they were installed. But on this one client, I just watched this client pull 3rd party updates and Microsoft updates and install them. After the
reboot, it's still trying to pull the two patches I installed manually and stays at "downloading (0% complete). I tried clearing the SCCM cache but that didn't help. Suggestions?

The client might need some time to apply deployment policy.
About downloading (0% complete), you could check CAS.log, ContentTransferManager.log and DataTransferService.log to find more information.

My macbook 2008 screen went black a few months ago. I've been using it with a monitor. Today it's working. I have a feeling it's going to die at any time. Is it possible that a software patch fixed this ? Is there a utility I can run to test the screen ?

Symptoms: The screen was, intermittently, going black last year and then went black completely. I have been using it on a monitor ever since.
I can see the screen with a flashlight.
I completely erased the drive and loaded OSx 10.7. I believe that's the last version of OSx Mac will be supporting on this computer.
When I booted up the computer this morning the screen came on !
While typing this question, my screen went black again, not to return.
So sad.
I did bring it to Apple and they believed the entire screen needed to be replaced.
They say that they tried a new inverter and it didn't work.
I have a feeling I'm just out of luck unless I want to cough up the $300 to fix the screen.
Although it is a solid machine, 2Ghz processor with 4 gigs of ram, it is still six years old.
I imagine that's like putting a new transmission in a 95 Honda civic. Yeah, it's a reliable car but it's old and it's probably going to break again.
I love my mac so much but I can't justify buying a new one or paying to fix this old one.
I have a Gateway dual booting Windows 7 and ubuntu linux that's actually pretty slick and has taken it's place on business trips and coffee shop excursions.
If anyone has any thoughts or feedback I'd appreciate it.

Do I need to put software patchs on my Ipod to play songs on muh PS3?

I've having problems playing music on Playstation, I have an Ipod video (5th generation)and the playstation won't read the music in the ipod format. I don't know if I need to download any thing for it to read the files or if I just need to use diffrent files, I have the Playstation updated, so that doesn't need to be fixed also the Playstation identifies that the ipod is hooked up to it. So, I'm not in a hurry to figure it out, but I was just curious as to what might be the issue. If anyone could help me, I would appreicate it greatly.

I'm not sure what you mean by "iPod format". If I recall correctly, the PS3 should support unprotected .aac files. However, it won't support protected ones, which, until recently, were the bulk of what the iTunes Store sold.
Also, I don't believe that Apple has ever said that iPods will work with PS3s in any way so I doubt that any updates will address what ever problem you're having.

It would be far better to purchase a Firewire External Drive. You cannot boot a PowerPC (G4) iMac from a USB drive and Firewire is faster for sustained transfers than USB2.0.
OWC DVD±RW DL Burner.
I would suggest that you shop elsewhere in future; this sales person clearly doesn't understand what they are trying to discuss(!).
