Droid 4 ear speaker will not work / possible software issue

My droid 4's ear speaker has not been working. If I go to make a call, I cannot hear anything unless I put it on speaker phone.
I do not believe this is a hardware issue however because everytime I restart my phone, the ear speaker will work for a couple of calls I make (and sound just fine) and then randomly stop working.
I was wondering if I had any other options before attempting a hard reset. Has anyone else had issues with this and found out what was causing the problem? whether its from a crazy app or from something being disabled?
The only 'trouble shooting' I can find on this websites says to put it into safe mode (which the ear speaker will work in safe mode) and then to start deleting apps to see which one is causing the problem. This seems rather 'clunky' and I'd rather just reset the whole thing if no one has any other suggestions....as it would take me all day to figure out what app is causing the problem...assuming that it even is an app and not something that has somehow been disabled.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My iPod touch speaker will not work in music.

After updating to iOS 4.3.3 my iPod touch(3rd generation) will no longer play music threw the speaker. It may play for a split second and it stops and the volume bar goes away along with the function of the volume buttons. The speaker will not work right away but eventually will return, it still works for youtube and and everything else but music.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

no. Can you rephrase your first question? I am the admin. ITunes asks me for a password when I open it and it works now but I cannot install software from Adobe or Microsoft. I am talking about updates. Apple updates do not require password now.

After upgrading to iOS5 - phone ear speaker is NOT working

Well, my excitement from upgrading to the new iOS5 on my iPhone 4 gave way to frustration when I found out that the phone's built-in ear speaker is no longer working. Tried everything from a hard reset, to re-syncing with iTunes, playing around with every setting I could find, and a few "fixes" I found online that were absolutely useless and did nothing.
This only appears to happen when making or receiving phone calls (and listening to voice mail) - when I select speaker, all audio plays normally, but clicking back over to headset, and nothing. Earbuds also work okay.
Prior to installing iOS5 this problem did not exist in the least.
Apple - I am going to ASSUME you properly beta tested this OS on ALL compatible devices prior to its release, did you not? Apparently (from my web searching) I am not the only person suffering this malfunction with their iPhone after upgrading to iOS5.
Is there anyone out there that has figured out a way to fix this, or am I just screwed? I don't know how to revert back to iOS 4.3.3 if that's even possible at this point. This is a phone I use for work, and I need to have this functioning properly.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my iPhone 4. Since the upgrade to IOS5, I've noticed I can no longer hear calls through the ear-piece, though using the speaker phone option works fine.
I took my phone to the Apple Store in Sydney and they advised that the problem was related to my sim card & that I should contact my telco for a replacement. I seriously didn't believe the Apple rep when she said this, but politely said thanks, went home and tried it out by swapping my sim with my wife's.
Guess what... it didn't make the slightest difference.
My wife has an iPhone 4 still running IOS4 and the ear-piece works fine. I even put my sim card into her phone and it worked fine as well. So the issue is definitely not related to the sim card.
It sounds like a common issue affecting a lot of iPhone 4 users that have upgraded to IOS5. I'm surprised Apple hasn't acknowledged this and have a patch available to correct (it doesn't sound like a hardware issue).
Anyway, looks like a trip back to the Apple store for more great suggestions.

Just replaced iphone battery!! Please help!! Ear speaker does not work.

I just replaced my iphone 3g battery. It seemed to go smooth. Everything works normally except the ear speaker doesnt work. When i try to make an outgoing call i cant here it ring, but my phone will actually call another phone. Does anyone know what # that connector is labeled as on the motherboard or back of the screen? Can not get my ear bud to work unless I hold the plug snug to the phone if I let go it they do not work What is the problem ?

the the headset connector is a common type which have been used for many many many years
the sony walkmen in the 80's had the same connector and if you connected your iphone headset to an old 80's walkman it would work
but if you did (or any other device with a mini jack 3.5mm connector) and it only worked if you hold the plug in then your headset is damaged and require a replacement

My daughtrts ipad 2 only recognises headphones. and the internal speaker will not work. we have reset the system three times, cleaned out the headphone jack, and chrckrd the side switch above the volume. alos we ensured it was not in do not disturb mode

On our ipad the speaker has quit working. Sound is only heard when you have head phones plugged in. We have reset the system three times cleaned out the headphone jack. You've done well with troubleshooting so far. Next step would be to back up and then restore from iTunes. Good luck!

I dropped my phone in water and the speaker will not work

I dropped my iPhone 4 in the sink and pulled it out immediately but it had been completely submerged. I then shook all the water I could out and found that everything worked fine, except for the speakers. I now cannot place a phonecall or play any music with out headphones or a speaker. Also when I try upping the volume, it says headphones when the volume thing is displayed. Is there any way I can get my speakers to work again? I have my phone in a bowl of rice already.

You're lucky that's all that went wrong.
First thing is to immediately turn off the phone.
There is probably still water in the headphone connector causing a short.
To dry the phone place it in a bag of rice and leave it there sealed in the bag of rice for several day. Hopefully when you turn it back on the headphone connector will work as before.
Normally submergence in water destroys a phone.
If the phone does not return to proper working mode, make an appointment at an Apple Store to have the phone replaced for the out of warranty fee.

I have checked the toggle switch, it is not on mute. Vibrate works but not my ringing tones... and itunes will only play through headphones.
I have had the phone for 24hours, updated and set it last night.
...Restored to factory settings three time ... pulled the headphone plug in and out perhaps 40 times!! (I look rather strange from afar)
I would appreciate any insight.

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
If you have been through ALL of the troubleshooting steps and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for investigation.

Webcam and usb drive not working--possible hardware issue?

I recently purchased a Lenovo ideapad U510 with Windows 8. I bought it as a returned machine but the Staples employee didn't know why it had been returned and thought it was just because the buyer didn't like Windows 8. When I first set it up I kept getting an error message that my usb device was not recognized, even though I had never plugged anything in. As I was leaving the country, I dismissed the issue and decided to deal w/ it when I returned to the US, since my other usb drives worked fine.
However, later my integrated webcam stopped working as well. It worked one time when I used Skype but not after that. I checked online forums for possible solutions, and most said I needed to download an updated driver. I didn't think this was the issue b/c when I went to device manager and tried to update my driver for the easycam, it said I already had the most up-to-date driver. I have uninstalled drivers, downloaded and re-installed drivers, and even refreshed my computer, all to no avail.
Here are the error messages I receive:
In device manager>view>show hidden devices>imaging devices>Lenovo EasyCamera, device status says

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.
When I try to run the Bison setup: Lenovo EasyCam has not found!
When I try to run the Chicony setup: Setup failed! Please Plugin camera and install driver again!
So, I'm thinking it's not a driver issue, but I'm not a techie and don't know what else it could be. Wondering if the usb problem and webcam problem are connected. Found another forum post that said maybe the webcam is not connected to the motherboard...suggestions?

I am certain it is a hardware issue from the problems youre describing. I would contact Lenovo. They may try to have you purchase their "software" support, but don't let them. I had wifi issues and they tried to make me spend $90 because I was too lazy to figure it out on my own.
Make sure when you're calling support that you tell them that you restored to factory default and before you send your computer in, back up your data. Also tell them that it's a new computer and you do not want to pay for shipping... They will most likely comp you shipping in both directions.

MSI Z87m Gaming will not launch Possible BIOS issue?

I have been looking over the internet for the past 2hrs trying to source and solution to my MOBO problem, but have been unsuccessful.
I ran MSI Live updater and did a total install. While it was updating I was playing Battle Field, Live updater appeared to alt tabbed to approve a step, as I clicked ok my computer flickered between desktop and Battle Field then froze.
I then restarted my computer but neither of the monitors responded. The MOBO powers on for 30sec then it restarted itself, with the monitor not responding to any of it.
I have unplugged my Video card and plug the HDMI cable into the MOBO directly still no luck.
I removed the CMOS battery and power supply cable for 30mins in an attempt to fix this probably, unfortunately still no luck.
After looking online I think it may be a MOBO Bios error related to Live update program, but I have no idea how to fix this problem.

Live Update also updates bios if set to update everything. While it is already risky to flash bios in Windows when it works without other software being used running a game meanwhile is board suicide. The update therefor failed in the process and bricked your board. As it does not offer a backup bios it is now dead and requires hardware (SPI flash programming device) to be restored. That takes MSI or a pc-shop. Else you can only rma the board.

Ear speaker won't work after screen replacement.

A few weeks ago I dropped my iPhone and cracked the screen. I ordered the replacement screen from ebay and did the repair myself today. Everything went smoothly except now the ear speaker does not work. Everything else works fine, I just am forced to have speakerphone on during calls.
When I open the phone back up to try to fix it, what should I be looking for? Any ideas what I should do?
Any sort of help would be much appreciated.

my ear speaker wont work now either...but mine is water damage...let me know if u find anything out cause i dont wsant to pay 200 to get a refurbished phone when it would cost me less to just fix the ear speaker
