Droid bionic random/constant rebooting and freezing.

Hello all,
I've had the Bionic since it came out and never really had a problem with it (other than the 3G dropping). Never rooted it or installed any untrustworthy apps, so this isn't a user problem as far as I can tell.
This is what's happening:
Two days ago while I was driving to class, I noticed a noise. Looked down and my Bionic was restarting itself. I figured it could have been some updates or something so I didn't think much of it. Then it happened again about 20 minutes later. After that, it didn't happen again all day. So I wake up the next morning for class and look at my phone (alarm going off) as I'm about to shut the alarm off, the screen goes black and pops up with the dual core screen. Drive to school again and it restarts 3 times while driving this time. One hour class it restarts 5 times. Go to work and it probably restarts 20 times in an 8 hour period. I get home, and by then it's constant restarts. Phone might be on for 5 minutes then it will restart. So I do a factory reset on the phone and it does nothing. It actually seems like the restarts have increased in frequency. It restarted 5 times while I was typing this paragraph. Also sometimes it'll just freeze like this morning it was on the dock and stuck at 5:10am, when it was 10 am. Or it will freeze on the Dual-Core screen when rebooting.
So what exactly can I do? I installed logcat somehow but the logs don't really seem to tell me anything. I insalled OSmonitor and watched the logs and it kept saying CPU1 Shutting down, booting secondary CPU over and over and over, so I think some hardware is screwed up here.
1. Should I call or go to the store? I'm not really sure what the return policy is. I'd like to get a replacement right away and not have to drop money on stupid shipping costs.
2. Is it possible to get a different model phone? I've heard too many problems with the Bionic to make me want to get another one. I'd love to get the Nexus without dropping $700.
3. Is there any possible fix i'm overlooking here? A factory reset was the last ditch effort as far as I can tell.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Pigbearman
I'm very sorry to hear about your Bionic resetting. We can definitely look into this and address all of your questions. Thank you for the great descriptions and the troubleshooting you have already completed.
Please power the device in safe mode and retest. This will let us know if the issue is caused by an application or the software on the device. Here's a link for safe mode: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=47270
Let me know if the device resets in safe mode. You wouldn't have to go to a store. The manufacturer's warranty would cover the same make and model device. So if there was no liquid or physical damage we can order you a replacement with free shipping.
Thank you

  • Lumia 620 Rebooting and Freezing

My family have 4 Lumia 620's between us and all of them have been having problems with random reboots and screen freezes since the Lumia Black update.  I have tried resetting them and have verified that all the apps were updated (In all 4 cases "access point" required updating as it never automatically showed an update was needed) but this has not resolved the problem.
The reboots sometimes happen when using the phone, for example in IE, and sometimes just when the phone is sitting, not being used. Freezes usually happen on the lock screen, requiring the phone to be rebooted by holding down volume and power.
On a few occassions, the phones have reset their date and time after a reboot and eventually correct it automatically.
On a couple of occassions, a reboot sometime during the night has reset the alarms causing them to be missed.
It seems to only be the Lumiz 620's that have this problem as I have a Lumia 820 and 520 which are not showing the same problem in-spite of being upgraded to Lumia Black.
My family are very frustrated with these reboots and freezes and are now considering moving to another platform.  Please help as I would like them all to stick with Windows Phone for when 8.1 is released.

hi mate, sorry to hear of the problems you have been experiencing. in this case, the only option you have left is to perform a hard reset, and failing that, a visit to your nearest Nokia Care location for inspection of your handsets is mandated.

  • Computer Reboots and Freezes Upon iPod Connection

On a fairly frequent occasion, my computer will reboot and then the mouse will freeze up when I connect my iPod. I am running XP and connect through a USB port on the computer. The frustrating thing about this is that it doesn't occurr all the time. Somtimes everything works fine. When the computer does freeze, I have to shut it down, disconnect the USB from the iPod and try again. Usually it take a couple of trys to get things to work. Anyone have this problem and if so do you know of a fix. I am using the latest Nano software updates.

It only happens when I connect the iPod to the USB port, but not everytime. Sometimes it works fine. Is there a difference between the order of connection. Should I first connect the iPod to the cable and then the cable to the USB port on the computer, or connect the USB end to the computer first and then iPod to the other end.

  • Random shut down and freeze

In the summer 2014, our family purchased Pavilion 23 touch smart all in one pc (model# 23-h109) from the futureshop. The Pc was shutting off and freezing randomly, so we returned it and exchanged with a new one. For some reason we didn't use the pc for about 5 months, assuming the new pc is working properly. After my laptop became unfunctionable, I started to use the pc then I discovered that the new pc was having same issue. At this point, exchange and return was expired at futureshop so they asked me to contact HP directly, so I did. I called the Hp support and they were telling me to follow unnecessary procedures (check the power, restart the computer, diagnoise, hardware check and etc.) when clearly it was hardware problem and needs to be sent in for repair, I felt like they were avoiding for the repair. Calling the Hp support didn't solve any issue or provided me with pleasant experience. If I were to call them again, I feel like they will ask me to do the same thing over and over. so this time I sent them an email explaining my situtation about 2 weeks ago, but havn't heard ANYTHING from them.
The shut down and freeze usually happens 3 times in one hour, so I have 25-30 minutes of usage then it restarts. This is very frustrating because warranty expiry date not much left. I have no idea what to do at this point, please if you're expert in this field, give me advice on which action to be taken next. Thank you for your time.

  • Constant resets and freezes/ occasional blue screen

I recently tried to go from iOS 7.1 to 7.0.6. After that, even after hard resets, the phone would work for maybe 30 seconds, then freeze up again. I restored my iPhone back to 7.1 and restored my backup and it still freezes. Now, it constantly restarts itself and just sits on the apple logo. Every now and then, it will flash a blue screen and then repeat the cycle of repeating and freezing. I am using and iPhone 5s.

Did you go from 7.1 to 7.0.6 (downgrade), or upgrade from 7.0.6 to 7.1?
This restarting problem was common with 7.0.6, and has been somewhat fixed with 7.1 (e.g., my iPhone 5S no longer crashes, but my iPad Air still crashes, though less frequently). Now my iPad Air freezes. I've looked around and there seems to be no readily available solution.
If a restore doesn't solve the problem, you can either go to the Genius Bar and see what they say, or just wait for what seems to be another bug. I might backup my iPad Air soon and take it in since this seems to be a software/hardware issue. Sorry I really couldn't help, but I was surprised nobody has addressed your question.

  • Rebooting and Freezing Keyboard

I have a Droid 2. This is the second or third phone that I have received since signing my contract. Sadly, I'm locked in my contract until July. Since the upgrade of software I have had a warranty replacement and a VZW replacement each has had the same problem. While typing on facebook or typing text messages, I am able to type about 10 characters and the cursor disappears and
I am not able to type anymore. Also, the screen will freeze and until I lock and unlock the phone am I able to continue what I was doing. However, that whatever doesn't include typing on my message. Often I have to start a message two or three times to get it correct. I have even had to use the voice recognition feature to get an accurate message. Here are the things I have done to try helping the situation:
    1. Hard Reset and the problem went away and came back shortly after downloading my apps
    2. Soft reset, did nothing
    3. I uninstalled all of my downloaded applications and started my phone in safe mode and still received the problem.
I'm so frustrated I can't see straight. I'm ready to throw this phone into the Mississippi River.
Has anyone experienced  anything like this? Did you manage to fix it or get it fixed???

30 GB 5th generation. I down loaded the latest two Powerline radio program podcasts. I was previously able to play them without a hitch. When I start the podcasts, they appear to want to play but then the iPod shuts down and reboots. Seems to sound like problems experienced by similar posts. I am still able to play other podcasts and music (both ripped from CDs and purchased on iTunes). I will reset the iPod and see if that works. I will report back.
Note: The Powerline podcast is a conservative podcast of current polictal events. You can download the podcast at the Powerline website or through iTunes. I obtained this podcast through iTunes. I have seen where both conservative and liberal websites have been hacked by the more unscrupulous of the opposition. With the election season heating up, and both camps in fever pitch, I wonder if it is possible that the podcast has been tampered with to produce this result. Just curious.

  • IPod randomly shuts off and freezes on a black screen

(I believe I have a 3rd generation.. I just bought it in July, and it has multi-tasking and wallpapers..)
My iPod Touch randomly shuts itself off.
It doesn't matter if i'm in an app, or playing music, or watching a video, or hooking it up to my computer. It just has it's fit, and shuts itself off.
But, when it shuts itself off, it becomes unresponsive. It won't turn back on for like 5 minutes. And even then, sometimes it turns on, other times it freezes on the Apple screen, or it will go to a white screen.
Every time I've made an appointment to go to the Genius Bar to have it looked at, it starts working fine. (I live about a hour and a half away from the nearest Genius Bar, so it's not really cheap for gas to get me there..). I've tried restoring it (from scratch and from a backup), but it eventually starts doing its thing. I've tried leaving all apps, movies, e-mails, and everything but music, and it still does it.
If I do drive all the way to the Genius Bar, and they can't duplicate the problem, are they just going to send me away and do nothing?
Or does anyone on here know of anything I can try??

First I would try restoring from your backup. If that does not work I would restore to factory-new condition and manually add apps and other things back on since there may be something corrupted in your backup.

  • Firefox crashes when loading Gmail, and random other pages, and freezes often.

Firefox upgraded itself to 3.6.10 sometime last Friday, I believe, and every since I cannot get into gmail, and it freezes often. When I try to log into gmail it will crash immediately. Sometimes if I click "sign in" rather than hitting "enter" it will load, but will lock up or crash within minutes or seconds. It also will lock up if I have more than three or four tabs open, often when loading a video, and crashed while loading Nexis, which I use often for work to do research.
I have disabled add-ons, disabled extensions, run in safe mode, uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted, downgraded, re-upgraded. Nothing has worked.

Problem does not seem to occur on a modern Win XP nebook with 1 gig RAM, but does on a relatively old laptop running Win 2000 with 98.5 MB ram.
Error message states that a script is running from a Firefox directory and asks to stop it. Crash occurs anyway!

  • Getting sick of reboots and freezes ...

hi folks, OK let me go directly to the problems I am facing. I bought a BB curve 8900 recently. I used it for couple of hours and then started to have the problem of auto rebooting of device while doing anything!. Then I took the phone to a repair shop who wiped out everything everything from the phone, basically doing a system restore of the phone but that did not help. It kept on rebooting at its will. After that I took it again to the tech support and this time he downgraded the OS from v5.0 to v4.6.1.133 (Platform 4.2.0.85). Things were going on smoothly with no reboots until after 24 hours the phone started to freeze at its will. Even if the LED was on it would freeze and the LED would still remain on!. And then after this it rebooted again. I am in a real dilemma. I really can't figure out how to fix this. I would really appreciate if someone could get my problem fixed!

Go look at the pictures in the posted link. If you have them they will be replaced automatically. If you don't have ones like those pictured you don't need them replaced. The ones that do need replaced would only pose a threat if you unplugged them and the power switch was still on the casing came off and you happened to touch a live wire. So let's not overreact? Doesn't sound like you suffered any mistreatment at all. Only the English language has been mistreated!!!!

  • Screen goes blank in random light colors and freezes.

So I am not sure what is happening. I have a Satellite L305 and its only recently started this. I turn on the system and it works fine, then randomly the screen shifts blank to a random color, like light tan or peach. Freezes the system and I have to force shutdown. Safe mode runs perfectly fine. I found a similar issue which exclaimed the display driver may be the problem so I installed one. It did not work. Its becoming more frequent so its harder to deal with. Does someone have a fix?

Can you check the full model and part numbers from the label on the bottom?

  • Why is my iphone 5 rebooting and freezing under iOS 7?

My iPhone 5 worked perfectly every day for a year.  Now that I've upgraded to iOS 7 it freezes frequently and reboots itself every few hours.  What is wrong and how can I fix it?

I take it you've got the original iPhone 5?
If so, I highly recommend that you switch these off in Settings:
    1) WiFi
    2) Bluetooth
    3) Mobile Data (internet usage via 3G etc)
Don't leave them running for long periods, they'll drain your battery at an alarming rate, even with Mobile Data turned on, your battery won't last for more than 3 days!!
Mobile Data is found in 'Mobile' in settings.
Also, some Settings that will cause a fairly gradual drain are:
    1) Privacy>Location services>System Services - Turn off: Location based iAds, and Location Services (uses GPS)
    2) GPS  - Turn off
    3) Change your Brightness to the second "s" in brightness
    4) iTunes and Appstore settings - turn off automatic download updates if your really desperate
    5) General>background App Refresh - Turn off
Note that some apps make extensive use of internet, eg. Facebook and Twitter and such, you'll have to manage these much tighter than normal. As in, don't leave them running in the background, quit those apps, as they'll keeping using the internet (checking for updates) when not in use by the user.
After you've done these, make a note of the percentage battery at the time, and leave it in sleep mode for an hour. If it's used about 1% or none, then you're back to normal battery usage, and it's fixed it.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Brand new X1 Carbon - big issue - screen corruption in BIOS/boot, constant rebooting and BSOD

    Hi all,
I got a new X1 Carbon mid March and am now having pretty severe problems with it. It first started a few days ago with this within Windows:
I rebooted it and it came good. Now today, it did it again so I rebooted it and it started not being able to boot. It would get to the first Lenovo screen where it says 'Press enter to interrupt normal startup' the screen would go corrupted and it'd reboot.
So I went into the BIOS to run Lenovo Diagnostics and whenever I press enter on Lenovo Diagnostics it just reboots again. Sometimes when it reboots, the green light on the power button flashes a few times, the keyboard flashes and then it all goes dark and does that for 5-10 times before booting.
Now most times (say 19/20 times) it tries to boot, it does 'Preparing automatic repair' but it is frozen and as you can see below it is broken:
Out of the 1 of 20 times it manages to get into Windows, I get:
In terms of specs, this is the highest end X1 Carbon with the i7, 2580x1440 touch screen, 8gb RAM and 512gb ssd if that helps at all?
    The model# specifically is: 20A7-A008AU with a S/N of R9-009TXX (last 2 digits truncated).
All I have done so far is managed to update the BIOS before it crashed again. It has the latest version now from the Lenovo website, mid-March build I think. The drivers etc are all standard but it wouldn't be driver related as the reboot/corruption etc happens before Windows as well. I presume the 'preparing automatic repair' is a Windows function, but the same symptoms happen within the BIOS etc. I haven't got a photo of that as it reboots before I have the chance to snap a pic.
I've lodged a job with IBM (for some reason it redirects to IBM when you go to lodge a service call, is this normal?) but am hoping someone else knows of a quicker fix for me because it's difficult for me to be without a laptop due to my work.
If this is a replace job -- which I imagine it is as it seems to be hardware related to me, how often does that typically take in Australia?
Edit: Resized images to keep total under 50kb as per moderator request

I just got told that I have to wait 72 hours before I can lodged the claim because that is how long it takes to reflect that I upgraded the warranty. Even though I only bought the laptop brand new 3 weeks ago!
What a waste of $334 to extend the warranty this morning. Be warned all that if you upgrade it for the hope for a quicker fix you have to wait 72 hours for Lenovo to know you upgraded the warranty to next day onsite fix despite having the invoice etc for it and they won't even lodge a normal warranty claim because there is a new one coming!
I asked for a service number and got told I can't have one because they won't lodge the claim until the warranty database is updated! 3 week old laptop. Sometimes I wish I got a Mac so I could just go into the Apple Store and swap it there on the spot.

  • PP CC2014 constant crashes and freezing.

Recently 'upgraded' to Premiere Pro CC2014 from CC, hoping it would have sorted lots of the bugs out from CC, when in fact for me it's been 10 times worse.
Working on a project and it must crash at least 10times a day minimum, and I'm struggling to find any rhyme or reason as to why it's doing it.
Playback stutters, and then sometimes it allows me to scrub the timeline but is frozen on 1 frame. Other times it starts putting freeze frames in place of empty spaces on the timeline. Other times it won't render. Quite often it will play a section fine, then a little while later i'll go back over that section and it'll decide not to play them, freeze and crash.
    It's depressing / infuriating / confusing.
Anyone else getting this? Any help!? PLEASE!

    Hi alexhaines13,
Please try the following steps and check if it helps.
    1. Clean the media cache files by navigating to /Users/User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common. This is a Hidden Library please check the document below if you have any issues accessing it.
Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later
    2. Check the version of the drivers of your NVidia card. So, go to Apple Menu>System Preferences and check if you have a CUDA Preference pane if it is not there then go to the below link and update the Card to latest drivers.

  • Droid 2, R2D2 -  Going Slow and Freezing whatever I'm doing

So in the last 3-4 days, my phone has been exceedingly slow, through everything.  Halfway through typing a sentence my browser/text messaging freezes and stops.  I can't even home-button out of it.  Hitting home to return brings me to the home page after a few minutes, which is  then frozen.  I wait for it to unfreeze and it loads my text message inbox...but without the ability to type.   This happens for browsing/facebook/texting.  Also, whatever other apps I use, are very very sluggish.  Most apps will load normally for 15-20 seconds, then slow down, then freeze.  Many different apps have come to the "xxxxxx is not responding, send error report?"
I have not downloaded any new apps.
I have not overly used my phone.
    I have scanned for viruses.
Today, I deleted task killer, to see if that was it.
To no avail, the phone is still very sluggish, and after 'confusing' it with running a program, it restarts.  Repetitively.
    Any help would be great!

Mine is doing the same thing. After that mandatory installation, I believe it was the 2.1 update, my phone has gone nuts! It is extremely slow, and everything is freezing. Now I cannot even type out a text message, through Handcent or the stock app, and text are coming through doubled.
I thought maybe I needed to just update Handcent, but that didn't help either. I can pull up the app, click a thread, and begin typing without any problems. As soon as the first word is typed though, it freezes completely, and I can even get back to the home screen for a few minutes. One out of five times or so it will give me the option to force close or wait, but other than that I have to just wait.
I'm tried booting in safe mode, and also deleted task killer, checked for viruses, and haven't downloaded or updated any applications. If anyone finds a solution, please post it here, or email me at {edited for privacy}. After work hours, communication with my boss is though messaging for project details. Go figure my phone would do this when I've got a huge work load, with a short deadline.

  • Mega 180 reboot and freezing...PSU failure??

I was browsing the internet, when my screen went black and the onboard speeker started beeping.
I couldn't restart the system without a BIOS reset. All my temps are normal.
After 5 minutes the screen went black again, but no beeping this time.
BIOS reset again, and then I've checked my voltages.By the BIOS my 3.3v is only 3.23v.
Under Windows the system monitor shows only 3.15-3.18 v.
When I turn on or turn off the computer theres is a ticking sound from the PSU(from the bottom of it),which wasn't there before.
If I start a game, the system just freezes.
    Is my PSU gone???
ps:I'm using the onboard graphics and sound etc.

to determine if the PSU is at fault, you can connect up a regular desktop ATX PSU. make sure the specs are the same or better.
disconnect all the power connectors from the Mega PSU, then connect the ATX PSU while it is still outside the case. note that while testing with another PSU that the LCD display won't work and you won't get any sound either.
you can run some tests for a while; if you don't get any freezing or restarts, then you know the PSU is at fault
HOWEVER, the mostly likely cause of problems in all the Megas is OVERHEATING. when PSUs get too hot, their power output can drop, causing instabilities. use a program such as Speedfan to monitor your CPU and system temps
