Does Verizon charge extra for the Droid Charge Mobile Hotspot feature or is it included in the data package? Any extra hardware or cables needed? Does the mobile hotspot work in 3G areas also? TIA

Adding to what was stated, to get unlimited 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot and Mobile Broadband Connect usage until June 15, 2011, it comes with the purchase of a ThunderBolt by HTC or a DROID Charge by Samsung with a voice plan and a data package $29.99 or higher. The hotspot itself is a data feature not included in the data plan. This is because the data plan covers data usage on the pone itself. The hotspot is a connection point for another device to use its own separate data access the mobile hotspot is designed for 4G coverage just as one of the two devices offered use 4G. In areas where 4G is not available, the devices would default and work on a 3G network. No extra cables or hardware is needed.

The mobile hotspot feature is one of my favorite features of all time! It’s super easy to use and it eliminates having to carry more than one device for an internet source! I even love the fact that you can add and remove it at my leisure, just like you have my friend! May I ask were you able to get this service removed from your account? If not then I will be happy to make this update for you. Also, keep in mind that if the hotspot feature is not active for a full month then both the cost and the data allowance will be prorated. In either case, keep me updated.

Mobile hotspot app not working on Droid Charge

My mobile hotspot app stopped working today. When I click on the app the screen flashes for a second then nothing happens. I get the same result when going to settings, wireless network, mobile hotspot. It's like the link to the app is broken or the app is gone. I have removed the battery and restarted several times with no luck.
How do I reinstall the app or fix this?

WOW! I just changed the date to May and Boom hotspot works. Is that a joke? VZWsupport wrote me on twitter saying their top engineers have it listed as an open issue still.... I'm not a programer or developer by any means but you would think that if the hotspot works fine with the date changed wouldn't overriding or rewriting that part of the software be fairly easy for a big company like Verizon????

Droid Charge hotspot

Spoke with Geraldine on VZW chat, she said the hotspot is included with the data plan for $29.99. To good to be true, so called VZW and spoke with Jacob, he says hotspot promotion does not have an an end date, but cannot confirm that it is included with data plan. Does anyone know the truth?

I understand receiving conflicting information can be frustrating. The information Ann154 provided is correct, the promotion will end July, 6 2011. Additionally, existing customer with an unlimited data plan of $29.99 or higher with an eligible 4G device (ThunderBolt by HTC, DROID Charge by Samsung or LG Revolution) will be able to subscribe to the unlimited Mobile Hotspot (MHS) feature for $30/month.
On July 7, 2011, the Mobile Hotspot free promotion will be removed from the device. The next time you try using the application you will be prompted upon initiating a MHS session to self provision the new MHS feature for $30/month. I hope this information alleviates the confusion. Please let me know if you have any additional concerns.

Droid Razr 4G Mobile Hotspot Issues with PS3

I am hoping someone else had this issue and has been able to resolve. I just got a Droid Razr this week, and I have the 4G mobile hotspot feature. I am trying to replace my slow DSL line at home, and most things in my house have tested fine (Internet access, etc.). However, my PS3 seems to have some issues, particularly with online gaming and testing the network connection. The game I am testing now is COD MW3. I thought maybe something like IP ports were blocked on the phone or 4G network, but searching online seems to indicate that isn't an issue. If I reconnect my PS3 back to the DSL, online gaming and network tests work just fine. Move it back to 4G and the game won't connect and the network tests don't complete.
I don't see any features on the phone that would indicate that you can modify any firewall like settings. Anyone else experience similar issues? Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same issue with my Samsung 4g hotspot as well. I can get onto the PSN, download game updates just fine, but when I'm in a MW3 lobby, it just sits there and eventually times out and a XMB message displays that i've been disconnect from the wireless access point. Anyone have any ideas?

Droid X - Problem using 3G Mobile Hotspot

About half the time I use my Droid X 3G Mobile Hotspot feature it drops from a 3G signal to a 1X signal. I will have about 3 bars of 3G signal, I will turn the 3G Mobile Hotspot feature on and the signal will drop to a 1X signal. If I turn the feature off, it will return to a 3G signal. Does anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I have seen a few reference to the number of 3G bars they have, are you by chance referring to the signal strength bars, because if you are combining these two I hope you relieve the bars meter represent the phones signal strength not the 3G strength.. The phone has more than one radio signal, the phone and data signal are not transmitted from the same signal so just because the phone is receiving a good does not mean the 3G data signal is as strong... The only indicator you have to indicate your data connection is the 3G and 1X indicator on the top status bar.
Try moving device and see if the phone returns to 3G mode because I haven't noticed this issue but I have noticed the drop of a signal strength of phone when a data connection is active. Never nothing major but it does drop until data connection is disconnected. Sounds like a software bug.

Droid Charge hotspot will not send an email with an attachment.

I have a Droid Charge phone. When I use it as a hotspot and send an email from my computer with an attachment the connections times out. It will send an email okay as long as there aren't any attachments associated with it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this problem? By the way, it downloads emails with attachments just fine! Great phone otherwise.

I tried .pdf, jpeg, bmp, docx, doc, bmp.... nothing will send.
I tried it with my laptop loaded with XP and I tried it with a laptop loaded with Windows 7. Same results - it timed out!
I took my phone to the local Verizon store and they tried MY hotspot with THEIR computer - same problem, would not send! I took it to a Verizon sales booth in Sam's club and they could not send an attachment using their computer and my hotspot either!
I later went back to the Verizon store and the salesman there had an I-phone and she set up a hotspot on her phone. I then sent an attachment using my computer and HER hotspot - no problem, went thru just fine! I sent about 10 more attachments that ranged from 500 KB to 2.6 MB and all went thru without a hitch! I tried my hotspot again and it would not send!
Verizon sent me a replacement phone - same problem. They sent me ANOTHER replacement phone - same problem!
A friend of mine has a HTC phone and an account with Sprint - I tried his hotspot. At the exact same location I tried a pdf file of 2.6 MB with my computer using my Charge hotspot and it would NOT send it. I then used his hotspot and sent the exact same file and it went thru without any problems.
So now what?
Oh, I had Verizon make me a new SIM card but that didn't help. By the way, I think I've talked to about every Verizon tech at their 800 number and I don't think taking the battery out and resetting the phone is going to work - I've done it about 50 times now! (I'm not exaggerating!)
This is a business phone so I'm going to turn the problem over to our person that handles our account with Verizon. I had an AT&T phone before and it didn't have any problems. I don't have the time for this type of headache so I think I'll go back to AT&T since we have an account with them too!
I'm not saying that Verizon is a bad company.... I just don't have time to deal with this! This has been going on for over a month.

Problem w/ droid 2 as a mobile hotspot.

Trying to use mobile hotspot on my phone. I enable the app, and plug it into laptop in pc mode. When it comes time to access the internet the 3g connection drops off and doesn't return until the phone is unplugged from the laptop. Not sure how to fix this.

Thank you for your inquiry. Are you still having the connection drops when using your hotspot? Are you aware of a software update that has been made available? If you have not updated your Droid 2 device, I suggest this update. This link provides information how to access the update with instructions for installing it along with the many benefits. One of the benefits of this update is helps correct the drop connections issue as it relates to the hotspot as well as many other featured improvements.

DROID X 3G MOBILE HOTSPOT

Ok here is my question's: How do i get my 3G Mobile Hotspot since im on a prepaid plan? Is it just $20 month only or more? Do i need to call 611 to get it turned on or what? I actually just got an upgrade so thts why im asking.....HELP VERIZON!!!!!!!

Mobile hotspot. Losing 3g data droid x2

I am soooo irritated with my 3g network connection dropping randomly. I decided to get the mobile hotspots so I could use it on my laptop. It works find for five minutes or so. Then my 3g icon disappears then comes back on. The pages on my internet hang..I then have to tether using USB and it sometimes works again then eventually stops.
Here is what I have done to try and resolve the issue.
1. Rename the ssid name and password. Restart the computer and it sometimes works. Usually ended up saying no internet connection or limited connection.
2. *228 sometimes fixes the issue for five minutes then its back to the issues.
3. Settings --Battery & Data Manager--Data delivery-- all top three boxes checked. Worked the first time.
4. Uninstalled all applications. Didn't help.
5. Factory reset phone. Didn't help. Same issues.
6. Finally took my phone back to best buy and exchanged it for another one. I though for sure this would fix it. It had to. According to Verizon technical support the phone had to be defective. Guess what ..same **bleep** issue.
7. I was told then that the problem was for sure the latest update. He told me they were sending out another update to fix this issue. He said I would be getting the update soon. I took off the hotspots feature cause I wasn't going to pay for services I don't use.
8. Today I finally got the update for my phone. I immediately called Verizon and I had them give me the hotspot back.
9. After five minutes....I had no more 3g/ internet. Same **bleep** problem.....
Does anyone have any ideas? Please help me...

I have a HTC Thunderbolt and my hotspot keeps dropping Data connectivity.. I also pay 29.99 a month for a service that i can't use like advertise. I have also called Verizon, gone into a Verizon store, even switched phones back when I was under the return policy days. I have been told they dont know why I keep loosing data connection. I also am on old grand fathered customer and have unlimited data plan... So I am paynig twice to use the internet on my laptop.
I even have tried to use a USB cord to connect my Thunderbolt to my ACER laptop and I instantly loose my 3G service and will not come back. I keep getting a message that a program called BOOTSTRAP.EXE wants to run on laptop when I plug my phone it to it.. Its really funny how Verizon can't tell me why this keeps poping up.. They even switched me to HTC telling me that its an HTC program wanting to run. HTC then tells me that its nothing on the HTC phone that its Verizon.. Kidding me??? Verizon cant even owen up to this either. I have read forums and the BOOTSTRAP.EXE has something to do with the Verizon VCAST program on your phone.. I have to unplug my phone and shut it off and then back on to get 3g back and sometimes that does not work.. I can't believe Verizon can not own up to this porblem and tell their customers we are aware of this porblem and working on it.
I think its time I give my Lawyer a call and see if there is anything they can do for me. Maybe false advertisement or even breaking the contract of providing reliable service to the customer. Verizon is advertising Hotspot like there is no issues with it. But we the customers, that have it and have been calling and <word filter> about this from day one they started this service know there is an issue with it.. I dont think its right they get away with this!!!. Maybe a class action suit is in order?!?!?!?!?!?!

Verizon iPhone - mobile hotspot and other questions about the data options

I just ordered the Verizon iPhone. Can anyone explain the options here:
1) Unlimited corporate email & Web (business and personal email) vs. Unlimited email and web for smartphones (personal email) - what's the difference?
2) "3G Mobile Hotspot 2GB" - does this mean that there's no way I can share my 3G connection via wifi without paying the extra $20/month?? How about tethering to a single computer (USB, BT, or WiFi) - does that also require this extra option?
3) equipment protection - what's the difference between Extended Warranty, Asurion Wireless Phone Protection, and Total Equipment Coverage?

Regarding your #2 question; yes, you must pay $20/mo to use the 3G Hotspot aspect of the iPhone, same as with any of Verizon's phones that offer this feature such as the Droid X, HTC phones, etc. And, there is NO additional charge to tether it to your computer; it's $20/mo regardless. You can still use the iPhone's WiFi feature to search the web which is part of the regular data plan. We're only talking about paying the $20/mo for the "up to 5 devices" jumping on your phone as a hot spot.
I'm an Apple fan, have my MacBook Pro, but my phone is a Droid X. I've been a Verizon member since a year before they became Verizon. Additionally, I am part of the Verizon & Motorola test forum; testing new software updates as they come along.
Something you should know about Verizon's 3G Hot Spot feature; it has issues. Those of us in the Motorola & HTC forums have experienced identical issues with regard to the 3G Hot Spot feature; it disconnects every 2 minutes, even when you are actively surfing the net. Verizon & Motorola Support have been very helpful to provide what they believe are fixes, including: changing the channel, hard resets, clearing cache, etc. It does not work. Most of us believe, this is NOT a Verizon issue, but a phone maker issue.
I also have Verizon's MiFi 2200. It costs $59/mo and is purely a hot spot device; again up to 5 devices. I use it at home, for my lap top and for those who need connectivity. It outperforms the 3G hot spot feature of the Motorola & HTC phones by leaps & bounds, and I suspect it will out perform the 3G hot spot feature on the iPhone. Additionally, you get 5GB of download with the MiFi which Verizon is planning on offering increases to 8GB & 10GB. There is NO plan to increase the 2GB download limitation on the 3G Hot spot of the iPhone & other phones, and anyone who does basic software downloads & pics, knows 2GBS is not a lot space.
So, I would recommend not paying the $20 until this is resolved. If you do, you could pay $39 more for a total of $59/mo for the MiFi, download the software to you home computer & notebook, and end up canceling your home internet service. I did this and have saved $70/mo in my total utilities.
One other important note: Verizon's VZManager Software for their phones & MiFi. If you did pay the $20/mo for the iPhone and decided to tether to your USB port (for power while using) and you were to use the 3G hot spot feature, it will NOT work on 64 Bit computers, regardless if you are using the WiFi feature or directly using VZManager. The MiFi has this same issue. It will only work on 32 Bit when tethered. So, you'd have to reboot your computer to 32 Bit, if you have that ability. On a Macbook Pro, simply restart holding down the "3" & "2" keys.
I have no idea why Verizon can't simply upgrade the firmware, even recent firmware upgrades have not resolved this. Most new computers are 64 Bit now.
Despite this, I use my MiFi 100% untethered and carry my charge cord in my bag as it also works on my Droid, and I presume they may do the same for the iPhone; reduces the need for multiple power cords.
I really looked forward to the 3G feature of the Motorola & HTC phones, but honestly, it's just not there yet; mine was slower than Dial Up, and I'm not kidding.

Having issues with MacBook Pro and Verizon Mobile Hotspot

I bought a MacBook Pro with the Lion OS. I recently switched to Verizon and got an HTC Thunderbolt so I could use it as a hotspot at home and when I travel.
The problem I am having is when I turn the Mobile Hotspot on is, it will connect and stay connected for anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes and then it will work intermittently after that until I turn it off. I've talked to Verizon Tech Support probably 30 times in the last 3 months about the issue. They sent me another SIM card and a new Thunderbolt at first. The issue did not go away, so they offered me a Samsung Charge. Got it and it did the same thing. So I told them to send me back a Thunderbolt, because its a better phone and the Charge was too glitchy.
I've been to the Apple Store twice now and they dont know why its happening either. The only thing that has remained constant throughout this whole troubleshooting process has been my MacBook Pro. My questions are: Is anyone else experiencing this type of behavior? and What could possibly be causing this issue?
Im a new Mac user, so Im not sure how to troubleshoot issues like this, or if there are compatibility issues Im not aware of.

Did this ever get resolved for you? I have the exact same problem except I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook and my phone is a Droid Incredible 2. When I use the hopstpot from a ThinkPad running Windows 7 or a System76 netbook running Linux Mint it works perfectly. But when I try to use my MacBook it connects for, like you said, anywhere between 3-10 minutes and then connection is intermittent and super slow. I haven't gone through the motions of contacting Verizon yet...

Currently the prices is $299.99 with a new 2-yr agreement. I'm not sure what will the price will be during the holidays but this is a device that I couldn't wait to have! 3G Mobile Hotspot / Desktop dock

I originally had the 2G hotspot. Which I loved. I never had a problem with it. I was able to log on using my old Dell computer at home. I was also able to connect to my company's VPN with no problem. I currently purchased the 4G LTE Mifi. I love it (at times), but there are a couple of problems and would like to know if I could work around them. First, it is necessary to know that my MIFI works. In some parts of my home it works at 4G, other parts of my home it will work at 3G and the 1X? option. That's okay with me. I live in a rural neighborhood. Two day's ago I bought my MAC home from work because I wanted to see if it would work with both operating systems (my MAC is partitioned where it has the Leopard OS as well as a Windows OS). I used the windows side and it works. It kicked me off a couple of times and I haven't found a way to fix that. Giving me the error stating that I'm connected but have no internet access. Then I used the MAC side. It connected, but then I received a message that I was connected but had no internet access. So, I logged onto 192.168.1.1 and it showed me if I was connected or not and what speed I was connected. Now, my questions:
When I log on using MIFI, can I then connect the 3G Mobile Hotspot on my phone and then connect to my computers that way? Since I never had a problem with my hotspot before, I would like to know if that can work without being charged for extra data?
Why am I able to connect, but then not have internet access?
I love having the MIFI, because where I live I can't get DSL; but if I have to go back to my 2G hotspot then I will. I have been having way too many problems not being able to connect to my company's VPN and that is really the only reason why I have it.
Next question is about the desktop dock:
I had the original Motorola Droid and I must say have never had a problem with it or the desktop dock that I purchased. I love having it so that I can listen to music while at my desk. The volume button is on the same side as the connector that goes into the dock. I have looked into the settings and cannot find something that will place the volume on the screen. It is driving me crazy.
Is there a way to change the volume without having to move the phone from the dock?
Is there also a way to toggle back and forth between the desktop screen and the regular home screen? With my old phone and dock, I was able to hit the home button and it would take me back and forth. Now, the only way to do this is to remove the phone from the dock and put it back on. Which I am not a big fan of.

One way you may be able ro resokve connection without restarting device is by cycling the airplane mode, this works well for the usual internet connection.
