Droid DNA battery life after kit kat update cut in half

Since the kit kat update,  my battery has gone from lasting about 13 hours to barely 7. If I am actually using the phone heavily it's less.  If I look under usage, Android system is shown at 76% with Facebook being next highest at 6%. I haven't installed any new apps since well before the update.
I'm also experiencing a very long delay in opening sms messages- about 45 seconds, with considerable delay in sending as well.
Any help here? I use my phone almost exclusively for texting and Facebook messaging, as well as taking pictures/using Instagram.

In response to the list of items in the first link, I've verified the device is undamaged, and I am using the replacement charger sold to me in the Verizon store. My original charger cord came apart within a few weeks of getting the phone.
I've done a soft reset several times in the last few weeks. Doesn't seem to make a difference. Software is up to date which is where my issue seems to be coming form.
I'm still using the phone in the same manner as I was before the problem occurred. I've removed or disabled any apps I do not use only a few weeks ago. I have put the phone into safe mode as of this morning, so will see if the battery drains as quickly with with almost everything disabled.
The phone is generally connected to wifi within our home and always has a strong signal. Display settings are set for the display to sleep after 30 seconds, I am not using live wallpaper, and my brightness is set at about 75%.
GPS is turned off.
I'm not sure what my syncing settings are set at, but they have not changed save for one item that was altered when the latest update rolled out. After the update, Google offered me an auto-back-up service for my photos and videos (uploading them to my Google account) which I turned on. I've turned this off for now. Otherwise my settings for push/pull are unchanged.
I don't stream audio or video from my phone with any frequency (less then once a week). I have not yet done a device reset. Hoping to hold off on that if possible.
Even in safe mode, there is still an extremely long delay in accessing my SMS messages. That has not changed. I will update more at the end of the evening or tomorrow.

  • I Have been getting BAD battery life after the ICS UPDATE !! on the DROID RAZAR MAXX have this happen to any one else ??????

i have been getting really bad battery life after install ICS on my droid razar maxx i can only go 1 day and 3 hours where i used to be able to go 2 day easy have this happen to anyone else can someone tell me how i can make my battery life better??????/ and do i need to let my phone go complete dead before fully chargeing it again ??????
before install the ICS update i had 30 percent of battery life remaining so i pluged it in and let charged for a little bit while it updated my phone and ever thing after it updated i unplug my phone and started playing on my phone to see what ICS was all about but when it got to 15 and said " connect to your changer so i did !!!!! should i haved let my phone going complete dead since i unplug without it fully changer or does it matter ?????????????? if someone could please help me !!!!:)

What was your battery reading right after the update when you unplugged the phone? I have never let my Maxx drain further than 20% battery ever before I charge it. Yesterday after the update I also played more with the phone trying to learn the OS, as did most everyone on this forum. Give it a few days of your normal use before you decide your battery life has decreased. I took my phone off charger today at noon, it was 100%, and now it's 80%, with about 30 min talk time, and mostly standby. that's about normal batt life for me, maybe a little better than before the update. I'm still going to watch it for a few days before I make a conclusion about battery life.

  • Awful battery life after latest OTA update

I've owned my Bionic for about 16 months now, and up until recently, have been very pleased.  After the initial Jelly Bean update, I was enjoying the best battery life I had ever experienced, up to 20+ hours with moderate use throughout the day.  However, the latest over the air update (I remember hearing my phone restart itself after the update in the middle of the night), my battery life has suffered dramatically.  At first, I thought the battery was bad, so I ordered a new one, but the problem persisted.  I searched online and discovered others were experiencing similar issues after updates.  I have tried various solutions, included wiping the cache, deleting apps one at a time to determine a culprit, and eventually even a FDR, but none have helped.
I am almost positive the issue is stemming from "wakelocks" and other things waking my phone up again and again, even with the display off.  My battery will drain from 100% to 40% as I sleep at night, even with WIFI and data disabled.  The battery stats show Android OS and/or Display (they alternate) as the leaders for my battery usage, usually around 40-50%, which is much higher than it used to be.
I have become increasingly frustrated with this issue, as there seems to be no known solution other than getting a new phone.  I find it almost inexplicable that an update could go out that causes such problems.  My phone has basically been rendered to a tethered device, as I can't go more than 8-10 hours without recharging.  If there are any known solutions, or if I can possibly receive a new Bionic, please let me know.
    Thanks.

After the Google logo appears and I try to go to step 5, I get the green
little robot on his back, 'tummy' open with a red triangle and exclamation
mark in it....and it stays there for a long time???
    Then the phone reboots....problems stay.
I do not know who you are Kevin but I was at the Verizon store on Friday
and I was told to call customer service as they are not responsible for the
    software...it's Samsung's problem!?
I am a +$300 a month client and this is the service I get!
I will close my account, pay whatever it takes and go someplace else if
this doesn't get fixed fast...this did not happen on my request and I'm
    stuck with it.

  • Poor battery life after Mountain Lion update

I updated OS on my 2011 13" MacBook air from "Lion" to "Mountain Lion."
My laptop used to last 5-7 hours with a single full charge.  After installing Mountain Lion, I can't even last 3 hours.
I noticed that other people are experiencing the same problem but I can't seem to find a solution.
    Any suggestions?

There's a huge thread about battery life here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4135250?start=0&tstart=0 .  Hopefully it will be fully addressed in 10.8.2.

  • Your Battery Life after Lumia 800 Update

    Hi,
I recently updated my Lumia 800 to firmware (1600.24838106.11500) and my battery life is much much better. However, I am still not seeing an expected fixed full charge of ~ 1502mAh, which it had before the update. Nokia says it may be an issue with the phone but before I send it back could any else confirm that post update they can get a max capacity charge reading in the 1500mAh's? Could there still be a little more battery charge a firmware update could tap into for all of us or is my battery weakened by pre-update battery management? My battery at the moment polls:
    1) Battery Saver Life remaining around 1day 9hours.
    2) Battery Status Full Charge Capacity varies between ~1350 & 1420 mAh.
    3) Charging using approved Nokia Lumia 800 chargers.
    3) Three charging cycles completed.
    Cheers for the help.

    After the update and a hard reset;
The max battery ranges between 1322 and 1478
For the 1st few days I was getting about 26hrs out of it so quite a leap from 6-9hrs but this morning the phone was dead after 16hrs - with most of that time just on standby.
Plugged in the charger and there's a battery charging image but after 15 mins I still can't turn the phone on to make a call (with charger in).
During this time my Blackberry 8520 was charged up on Saturday and the battery power shows 3 bars left out of 5.
The Lumia looks really nice but I think it's covering up internal outdated junk and the only thing that's keeping it selling is smoke and mirrors marketing.
335 hrs standby time  -  nearly 2 weeks!!!
55 hrs of music playback - over 2 days!!!!
It's like they plucked the numbers out of the sky... "this will sell it"!
My phone is now coming up to 2 months old and all this "there's a patch to fix it" has proved nonsense. Sure they've increased it a little but I'm sure I could have got more life out of it by setting the brightness to low myself.

  • MBA battery life after OS X update 10.9.2

Since I installed the most recent OS X update 10.9.2 for my 2013 MBA, my battery life has seriously decreased! I am not using my MBA any differently, after 2 hours of use the battery life went from 100% to 75%. Anyone else had this issue?

    1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the limit for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
    2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.9 or later.
    3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
    4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Messages (texting) after Kit Kat update

The recent KitKat update seems to have disabled the old Messaging app on my Droid Razr HD (seems like they could have warned us...). This turned out to be a blessing in disguise since it sent me looking for a new text app. After looking at several I chose the Vzn Messages+ app. Lots of bells and whistles to investigate. I only wish I could find more detailed instructions on how to use some of it.
I kind of like the ability to record a message that is attached to a text and sent when you release the record button (safer than trying to text while driving). However, it seems that the entire message cannot always be listened to on the other end. One daughter (Verizon) is able to listen to the whole message (20-30 long so far), but another (T-Mobile) can only hear the first 7-8 seconds of the message. Should people on the other end be using the same app to hear the whole message? What is the time limit for these recorded messages?

        MommaBear04,
I am glad to hear that you are liking the Verizon Messages application. You can check out this link to get more information about the application: http://vz.to/1khDVZ4 or you can also check out this link for more support: http://vz.to/1khE8vg
Does your daughter have the Verizon Messages application as well? I do know that this application is something that is available to Verizon Wireless devices. Other carriers might not be able to view the full video due to file size of the video. Please keep us posted if you have any futher questions or concerns.

  • DROID RAZR MAXX HD - Battery Life Halved following Kit-Kat Update

While I like many aspects of the Kit Kat Update, the battery life on my RAZR MAXX HD is half of what it once was under Jelly Bean.
I have tried the same Smart Action settings used previously, when I was getting up to 3 days per charge...and I have turned off all the Smart Actions, but the result is still the same. I am now lucky to get 24 hours out of a charge...under very light usage.
I was also sometimes unable to toggle wifi with the Smart Actions turned on. No such issues as long as the Smart Actions are turned off.
I am hesitant to perform a Factory Reset, but is that my only option?
It does seem as if there should be a 4.4.2 update forthcoming, but I have seen nothing to indicate that it is.

I'm sorry you're having issues with the battery on your device bljusn. I know its frustrating and thanks for trying all those steps to correct the issue. The hard reset would be the last step towards fixing some of the issues with your phone. When you perform the hard reset, make sure you don't restore your apps because they could be causing some of the issues with your phone if their not compatible with the new software. We recommend adding them on one by one to check for issues. Keep us posted.

  • GS4 Can't send SMS after 4.4.2 Kit Kat update

Just as the title states, updated to kit kat last night and now I cant send SMS, only receive. All other functionality (4g wifi etc) works
    Galaxy S4

I don't know why so many people are complaining about the Kit Kat update for their GS4.  Folks you have to learn to adjust to new things.  I know its frustrating when your $600 phone that worked perfectly well before but now it is no longer able to make or get calls bothers you, but Android, Samsung, and Verizon know what they are doing.  Right??? They wouldn't release a buggy update that would drastically  change the way you can use your phone without warning you if it wasn't for your good? Right???  You just have to relax and evolve.  Things are changing.  Smart phones making and receiving calls and text messages, and connecting to the internet...that is so last week.  (you know before we upgraded to Kit Kat) .  Now you just need to think positive about all the things your phone can still do.   You may not be able to get a signal to dial out and make and receive calls.  Me neither. But i can still get the voice mails that my boss, my son's school,  and my mom's doctor leave for me.  This Kit Kat has completely changed how I can use my phone. I'm going to remain positive, because I do not want to go back to jail.     I remember 2 weeks ago when I could use my phone to make calls, send and receive text messages, and i used to be able to get calls too. People from all over would call me. It was nice.  Those were the good old days.  But Kit Kat has changed all of that now.  Its a new world and we have to learn to adjust and move on.   Now thanks to Kit Kat my Galaxy S4 is my main remote control for my tv. The IR still works.   I mean I wouldn't have normally spent $600 on a tv remote, but what can you do. Its Android.  They know what's best.

  • Xperia Z, Out of Warranty holding charge for only a few hours since Kit Kat Update

    Hi,
I am a hapless owner of Xperia Z. I purchased my phone in March 2013 in India during the month of its launch.
A day after I purchased I noticed that the phone was over heating like ****** and sent it to service center. After I received it back, it was working fine . I managed a workaround for heating by using a think case.
I moved to USA and here again I had to send my phone to service center for USB Connectivity Issues.
Now, since the Kit Kat update, my phone doesn't lasts for more than 4 hours and there's simply no communication from SONY on when will it be fixed. Now because my phone is out of warranty and I don't have a copy of my bill, the customer care refuse to entertain it or redirect to thier service centre.
I feel cheated as I invested my hard earned money on an expensive paper weight and with Customer care showing total apathy. All I want is a working phone.
I strongly urge SONY to advertise its short comings as well, like heating, no battery backup, finger prints on touch screen and sluggish performance.

Hi sksfreedom, At your convenience, please reach out to our colleagues at Sony Mobile for further assistance with your concern. You can reach them at this site: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/contact-info/. Thanks, Charlie

  • Battery drain after 2.2 update (Exchange Active Sync users or those who use a calendar on the phone)

A lot of folks are having "issues" with battery life after the over the air (OTA) update and there has been much speculation as to the cause.  My frustrattion level increased with each new post I read that did not reveal a resolution.  The back and forth banter about FTC complaints (that was an interesting escape from the battery problem but not very helpful), new apps running from startup (I don't like 'em either), Linux really working better with all these programs running (don't really care as long as the battery level isn't drained after an hour of just sitting on the counter) just made matters worse.
I would like to share with you my experience and hope that it helps some of you who have taken the time to read my post.  First, let me say that the cause is not due the the "bloatware" applications that were installed during the OTA update.
Secondly, the primary purpose of my handheld is for voice calls but running close behind is my need for immediate email, contacts and calendar information (which is configured through Exchange Active Sync).  If you are not using your phone with Active Sync or updating a remote calendar like Google), you can stop reading this post.
I noticed that the yin/yang (sync) icon at the top of my screen kept popping up more than usual after the update.  Looking through the items I have set to sync (Menu -> Settings -> Accounts & Sync), I reviewed all the things I have set and disabled the sync settings for the things I did not want.  After disabling the "Backup Assistant", "Google", "News", "Stocks" and "Weather", I thought for sure the issue would be resolved.  Not yet.  When those adjustments didn't change the frequency of the sync, I decided to look at the Exchange Active Sync and to my surprise, the culprit was revealed - the calendar was stuck in a sync loop (syncing over and over).  I disabled the "Sync Calendar" feature and the phone stopped it's maddening attempt to refresh the calendar.
I let the phone cool off and thought that I could get by with manually toggling the option to sync the calendar but I couldn't accept that was the only way this thing would work.  I removed the Exchange Active Sync account and created a new one.  After the new account was verified, it attempted to sync mail, contacts and calendar but this time, there was a error that occured during the calendar sync.  Instead of repeatedly attempting to re-sync, an error message that stated "Client/Server conversion error".  At this point, the calendar sync loop was no longer a problem (wasnt' draining the battery) but now my calendar wouldn't sync at all.
To fix it, I cleared the data in the Calendar applications (Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> All [tab at the top]). Scroll down the list and open each of the Calendar items and click the "Clear Data" button.
(Credit goes to "Brenny" at AndroidForums.com for the post that explains how to clear the Calendar Data)
It seems that adjustments made to events before the update were kept in the phones local storage.  After the update, the calendar data in the phone's cache was not matching my remote calendar and appears to have been the cause for my battery drain.  After performing these steps, everything is back to normal.  Good luck!

Super frustrating, I know.  Do you use Exchange Active Sync?
If so, you might be having the same issue that I've explained.  Since making the adjustments (clearing the data from the Active Sync components like mail, contacts and calendar), my battery life is back to normal.
Try clearing the data (see first post in this thread) and let me know what happens.

  • Wireless driver triggers warm/hot macbook and low battery life after OS 10.8 mountain lion upgrade

    Hello frustrated Macbook users.
I have tried to get help on other Apple discussions but no one seems to want to help, they aren't actually reading my posts, or they hate me for some reason.
    No matter.
If you have a warm Macbook that has 2.5 hours of battery life where you used to have 4 or more, please do this simple procedure and write the result below.
    Turn OFF Airport wireless networking
Perform an SMC reset (Power Manager)
Connect an ethernet cable and use your Macbook normally. (but do NOT turn on wireless networking again)
How is your battery life after doing this?
I have a user over here who reclaimed decent battery performance if he doesn't use his Airport wireless.
    I need confirmation.
If so, I may get a USB wireless adapter and see if the battery life stays good.
Bonus points:  If you have a Mac compatible USB wireless adapter and got good results by turning off the built-in adapter, want to test it for me and report the results?
    Thanks and good luck!

    UPDATE:
Problem persists when using Recovery Partition.
Chance sthat it is third party softwae or updates is more or less eliminated.
Update 10.8.3 beta fixed the problem for one lucky early adopter.
Hypothesis: New battery charging algorithms programmed into Mountain Lion OS10.8 triggered problems from design flaws that were NOT an issue for OS 10.7 and before.
Battery replacements were successful where the replacement battery was built within tolerances that did not fail under 10.8's new charging algorithms. Other bateries did not meet those tolerances so you would get spotty results from battery replacements.  It worked sometimes, but not always.
OS 10.8.3 may have adjusted these algorithms to be less demanding on the features of the battery that were failing.
Official word from Apple is 'mum'.

  • HT1414 anyone noticing a decline in battery life after downloading ios7????

anyone noticing a decline in battery life after downloading ios7?

I have an iphone 5. Ios 7 is a disaster for battery life! It used to drain about 1% every two hours, 5% over night roughly (not being used). Now it is draining at double the rate. It drained 10% over night and it isn't even doing a thing. I think something is clocking up usage when it's idle.
    Screen brightness is minimal.
Background app updating is restricted to one app which isn't running the majority of the time.
Dynamic wall paper and other stupid stuff is all turned off.
I can't turn off the stupid clock animation. I wonder if working out how that is displayed is the issue???
It shouldn't be draining at 1% per hour when not even being used.
Favourite locations is still switched on.
Is there any benefit in turning off wifi and using 3g data only? I had the issue before that having 3g enabled meant double the battery drain so I only used it when I was out.
Ipad mini seems fine though. Battery life is same as last ios6 ie about 14-16 hours use.
I now have caret running to find out what the rogue thing is. The majority of the time few apps are running at all.
My general average usage is 12-15% per day if lightly used and 25-45% if it is moderately used. Now the phone is draining at 25-33% a day when lightly used!
Beats me why an ipad mini which is advertised at up to 10 hours on wifi nearly doubles that and the iphone which is advertised at the same rarely reaches it. I usually get 8 hours of active use if I'm lucky. Now it's more like 5-6 which is hopeless.
