Droid Eris Erased Contacts

Last night I pulled out my phone and all of my cantacts were gone. My text messages just showed the numbers and not the names of the people I was texting, and my call history said "unknown" on every call. I have a Droid Eris and I don't know what to do. I didn't get an update or anything that would have messed with the phone. Can you help me?

andybuell16,
I can understand how important it is to have a working phone!  I would be happy to assist with getting your contacts back onto your device.
Were your contacts syncing with your Google/Gmail account?  If so, all you need to do is go to Settings and sync the Gmail Contacts back.  Instructions and screen shots are included in the link below:

Let me know how this works out for you!

elieq21, I'm sorry your phone erased all your contacts. I was unable to locate an issue with the Droid Pro erasing contacts randomly. Ann154 is correct, if your contacts are saved with Google you can import them back to your device. I have listed steps below to export and import your contact to Google contact and back to your phone.
To Import Contacts to your device:
From a computer, launch an Internet browser then navigate to the Gmail website.
Sign in with the Gmail account username and password.
    Click Contacts.
    Click More actions.
    Click Import.
    Click Choose File / Browse.
Select the desired .CSV / vCard file then click Choose / Open.
    Click Import.
    Click OK.
To Export Contacts from your device to Google:
Launch an internet browser then navigate to the Gmail website.
Sign in with the Gmail account username and password.
    Click Contacts.
    Click More actions.
    Click Export.
From Which contacts do you want to export?, select the desired option.
    The Group
    All Contacts
If Group was selected, then select the desired contact group.
    My Contacts
    Friends
    Family
    Coworkers
    Starred in Android
    Most Contacted
From Which export format?, select the desired export format then click Export.

  • Droid Eris Contacts

Hi everybody...I just started using a Droid Eris.  I am having a heck of a time trying to get my contacts from Verizon's backup assistant. Before I switch phones I always make sure my contacts are on verizon's backup assistance on their website.  My old phone was easy Media>Get it Now>Backup assistant.  I called verizon and must have talked with a new representative because she had no idea how to get my contacts on my Droid.  Hopefully it's not to complicated.  Could someone out there please HELP!  I can't take getting a call or text and not knowing who it is.  Thank you!

This is the best and easiest way to transfer the contacts as well as the only way that was originally available for any DROID branded phone.  I have had my contacts these way since I got the phone.  And considering the way backup assistant has been acting the last few months, it is also the safest.

  • Droid ERIS Problems and needing to change to a new phone

I have upgraded to the Droid Eris early this year around March, now at the time Verizon only had the Motorola DROId and the ERIS. I read reviews on the Eris and for the most part they were fair to good most people complained about it beingslow and freezing. So with that in mind I went to the Verizon store to upgrade mainly because my LG DARE just was going bad. I was  told of the ANDROID update 2.1 that was supposed to fix a lot of the problems that the ERIS was having. My ERIS had all of those problems and then some.So I waited and waited 2.1 dropped and the phone got worse freezing issues, calls to people I didn't call, and slow performance. I read all the tips to help like app killer downloads going into "settings" and kill the running apps. But with all that this phone still kept getting the SAME problem. So I have contacted Verizon several times and of cource I get the standard "You have a 1 year warranty to replace the phone with the same phone" so after that I decided to go back to Verizon and change out the phone with another ERIS. It came within 3-5 days and I started it up and the same problems happened again. It's like I never turned in my other ERIS. This is very frustrating now I know I had 30 days to return
my phone If I was dissatisfied, but I was led to believe that the android 2.1 update would fix my phone but it hasn't. And exchanging my phone hasn't helped either. So I am VERY DISSATISFIED with this phone! I need a solution I would like to return this phone and upgrade it to the DROID X mainly because the reviews and most customers I've talked to say that it's a better phone. I don't feel I should have to pay full retail price nor do I want to ad another line to my bill. I would like to pay the 2 year contract price of $199 with the difference taken out of my return of the ERIS. I've been a loyal customer with Verizon ever since they were CELLULAR ONE! I've never missed a bill or had a late payment. I think that I should be an acception for this because Verizon know that the ERIS is not a good phone they don't even carry it in the store anymore.
    Someone let me know something.

  • Droid Pro- corporate contact access

I just got the Droid Pro and so far so good.  I changed over from the Droid Eris because I needed a global phone and wanted a hard keyboard.  I really like it but I seem to have an issue...I don't think I can search for a contact that is in my company's exchange server.  Not my outlook contacts, but other addresses in my corporate directory.  I had this feature with Active Sync on my Eris, but can't seem to find it on the Droid Pro- which seems weird since it's positioned as a business phone.  The Motorola website didn't really give much information only saying that I shouldn't need to access a corporate directory.  Any thoughts?  Hopefully I'm just not looking in the right place.

I can certainly understand how inconvenient this could be on your phone.  If my music app wasn’t working or icons and wall paper would be changing I would be confused and slightly upset.  How long has this been an issue for you?  Have you installed any apps on the phone recently that could be driving some of these issues?  Have you rooted your phone?  Have you ever done a master reset on the device to address some of these issues?  If you have not here are the following steps to do so:
From the main screen, touch menu tab
    Touch Settings
    Touch Privacy
    Touch Factory Data reset
    Touch Reset Phone
    Touch Erase Everything
I am certain that a master reset will resolve your issue.  Thanks.

  • Droid Eris Deleted msgs/photos

I have a Droid Eris.  I accidentally erased my txts/photos and really need them back.  Without a SIM Card, is this possible?  Can I order a hard copy of these from Verizon?  If so, how far back can I go?

Once the picture are deleted from your phone they are lost and can not be retrieved.  In regards to the text messages, they are retained for a limited time (up to ten (10) days (240 hours) from the date/time received at the message center). After that, the message content is deleted from our message center server and cannot be retrieved. Please keep in mind that they can only be obtained via a search warrant.
We must speak with your attorney or a law enforcement agent in order to accept your submission for a search warrant. Please ask them to contact us at 800-922-0204 and they will be connected with the appropriate department to handle the request.
If you choose not to obtain a search warrant, you may check the text message content within the phone itself to obtain this information, provided it has not been deleted.

  • Droid eris all sorts of jacked up

i have a droid eris and everything worked fine before hte update. then it started force closing messages almost every other time i had a text. i took it to the store and they did a factory reset on it and said that was all they could do. and everything worked fine for a while.
then a few weeks ago it started back up again. only worse. now instead of just messages, just about anything i open up ends up force closing. i cant send messages while it is plugged into the charger, and if i actually can it takes about 3 minutes to type 4 words because of the lagging. it automatically scrolls left, so when i type my messages come out backwards, or if im at the home screeen it scrolls all thwe way to the left screen and wont come back.
i havent added any applications since the factory reset they did, and i cant stand using my phone anymore. if i take it to verizon are they going to say the same thing, give me a refurbished eris that will prolly have the same problems or can i change to a different phone?

This phone is unbelievable.  It is obvious Verizon messed up bad on this phone and wants to limit its losses, because they put it on discount only weeks after it came out, and now it isn't even on their online store.  They come out with the Incredible, and leave us all screwed over with these barely working pieces of.
    I can't describe how angry I am at Verizon. I went to the store where I bought it when I was still in my 30 day period, and the guy promised me that an update was coming out soon that would fix the bugs and soon it would be better. As we all know now, the update only made it all worse. I did a system restart with HTC a few months ago to fix some issues I had, and instead I lost my contacts. To this day they don't load properly. I went in last week to the same store and the woman was so dismissive of me, essentially saying "too {word filter avoidance}
bad, buy a new phone then".  AND she had the nerve to say that Verizon had received no complaints about this phone.
My phone will freeze when it receives calls, and not let me answer. Texting is so slow and unreliable I text half as much as I used to.  This DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF OWNING A PHONE.
I tried their phone service, and it told me I couldn't use my phone to call customer service, and to call back from another number. I only have one phone, genius.  I sent them a message last week online (it says 24 hour response), and I haven't heard anything from them. Nothing.
They don't want to help their customers, that is what I am hearing.  I don't care how much it costs me, if Verizon doesn't fix this I promise I am moving to AT&T for good. I am so insulted by their response to this.

  • DROID ERIS help

I bought a droid eris from online and went to verizon trying to switch phones and they told me the esn was reported as "lost or stolen" and now i cant get in contact with the guy i bought it from. So now i'm out 100.  Is there any way to bypass the "lost or stolen" thing with verizon, or is it possible to get a old broken droid eris with a different esn and go about it that way? Please help!

Each phone has a specific ESN number. So using someone else's ESN wouldn't work because that ESN is made for that one. Just think of it as one ESN per phone and not being able to use it on another phone.
Where did you buy the phone from? Craigslist? Ebay?  You may want to consider possibly filing a police report against the person.

  • Droid Eris Text Messaging

Installed Handcent SMS text messaging on my Droid Eris.  It works fine but now I receive two messages.  One on Handcent SMS and one on the standard Droid Eris operating system.  How can I receive only the Handcent SMS message?  Is there away to stop the other notification?  Thanks

Go into your stock messaging app, hit menu>settings, and turn off notifications.  All your messages will actually still show up in the stock app, but at least it won't bother you about it.  Also, pick any contact from your contact list, long press on the contact, choose send message and an option will pop up asking which app you would like to use.  Check use by default box then choose Handcent (you don't actually have to send them a message, but this is one more step to stop your stock app from trying to start up.)

  • Droid Eris sucks

Does anyone else have problems with the Droid Eris?  This phone is so terrible. Apps shut down for no reason.  Trying to dial numbers is a pain, because of the lag.  This phone is horrible. The IPhone is so much better.  It sucks I have to wait until 1/26/2012 before I can upgrade, Verizon should let me upgrade now, because of how awful this phone is. Currently I am not even using the phone, I am using Google voice on my computer (its free).  If they don't let me upgrade for free,I am just going to do an early terminiation.  I can't believe how horrible this phone is.  The Eris sucks!  ahh feels good to vent.  #$@# the Eris.

Have you tried any troubleshooting?  Numerous people have reported issues like you describe with the Eris after receiving a software update, and many of those same folks reported that many of the issues were resolved when they did a factory reset on the phone to clear any data and applications.  Starting over fresh allows you to install apps one at a time, and may resolve any conflicts, or at least help you identify any problem apps and remove them.
If you call Verizon's 1-800 number, and choose option 3, you will be connected with tech support and they may have other suggestions for you as well.  If they can't resolve your issue, and you have insurance, you could file with Assurion for a replacement device since yours doesn't work.
Finally, you do have the option to activate a different phone on your line at any time.  You can contact Verizon and ask about purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned phone at a reduced cost, or buy a new phone from them at full retail prior to your upgrade date.  You could also look for a used phone from another source and use that until you upgrade becomes available.
If another carrier has the phone and service you want at the price you want, then you should definitely consider paying the ETF and moving to that provider.  Verizon does not meet everyone's needs by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Droid Eris 2.1 Constanst Sync and Battery Drain

Ever since the 2.1 Android update to my wife's HTC Droid Eris phone, there is a problem of the phone constantly running sync over and over. It drains the battery quickly. If I go to Settings...Accounts & Sync, it shows Sync completing and then starting again, again, etc. I went into Gmail Sync and it seemed to show Contacts and Calendar syncing over and ove. If I am in the main sync page and hit Cancel Sync, it stops the problem...for a while. It could be an hour, it could be 8 hours, but it always has the problem again at some point. I did a search and could not find anybody mentioning this problem. Does anybody have any suggestions? Is this a known issue? I would rather not try the factory reset route if at all possible.  Powering off the phone does not fix the issue. Thanks in advance.

I bought my Eris in March and I have already had to have them send me one phone and now I am waiting for a second phone.  They will just send you an "Certified Pre-Owned Phone".  The part of this that makes me mad it that they might test it for a minute and they don't see the issues we have with them and say they are fine.  There was a valid reason why someone sent that phone back in the first place and they just pass the buck and send that phone out to someone else hoping they don't experience the same issues.  I talked to a rep at the store and they tell me they cannot control wheather they send out a new phone or a used phone.  Just be catious when you get the "new" phone becasue it will probably be worse the the one you have.  Also if it has not been upgraded to Android 2.1 I would just leave it alone and keep using the Androis OS 1.5.  And if I get another defective phone, I  am gonna go to AT&T and get me an iPhone. At least they have their bugs worked out.  Good luck with your new phone.  Let me know how it turns out.

  • I installed Firefox for Mobile on my HTC Droid Eris but it won't work. Why?

I have an HTC Droid Eris and it runs the Android 2.0 operating system. When I attempt to open it I receive a message that says: "This device does not meet the minimum system requirements for Firefox".
The website states: "Firefox 4 Beta is available for Android 2.0 or higher" so I do not understand why it won't work on my phone.

See this web page for system requirements, and an experimental version that might work on the Droid Eris: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#System_Requirements

  • 6 hr battery life on a Droid Eris out of the box

    Hello eveyone.
I need help I just changed my blackberry storm for the Droid Eris.
Right out of the box and charged the battery lasts 8 hrs tops then it's decresed to 6 hrs.
THhis drop was due to my twitter and facebook usage which is very low and some emails that come in now.  I cant surf the net due to the battery drop.
My old storm would go on for 2 days 1 full day with heavy usage. This is a new phone...what gives?
    Thx.

It isn't the phones fault. It is due to an under amped battery. It is a strong phone that needs more juice. I would be hard pressed to believe the motorola droid or any other android phone has a huge difference in battery time. If there is a huge difference you don't use the phone as much as some of us do then. I purchased the 1750 battery from seido. Would have got the next one up the 3500 if it had been the price it is now. I recommend buying two and an external charger. I am getting ready to buy another 1750 and charger. This will increase the life of the battery for two reason primary reasons. Proper time for charging and the fact it isn't in use makes the charging cycle much better and effecient. I work in a hospital and get my phone searching quite often, from one netowork type to the next. I can get a solid 12 hours with 20% left at thend of the night when I get home. I have FB chat up litterally all the time bloo, I don't twitter that much but I get updates. I get mail pushed via gmail now. I do use wi-fi off and on as well. Since I'm in doors I don't actually leave the gps on, waste of power in general. Any of the newest smartphones have an underpowered battery. BB doesn't use use the web in the same fashion as android does and it isn't multitasking which is one of the big killers ont he phone. Use a task killer, select the improtant apps to ignor and make sure it cancels stocks and mp3 store, waste of cpu there. You can maximize the power you get with the battery you have, but the 3500, will add a small bit of thickness, but who really wants a hardworking model for a phone. She (the phone) just doesn't feel the same. Sorry to ramble so much, but it gets me when people say it is the phones fault or HTC is the cause. I disabled sense UI for a week and used the open UI that android has. I lost an hour and a half on the average daily, so I have to say from doing that and then turning it back on and getting the missed time back sense UI isn't the cause. I didn't notice any extra pps running when I used the open UI so I have no idea why it acted that way. It coudl have been caused by background jobs that the Sense UI uses but wasn't since it wasn't enabled and the services still ran, now that I mention that I need to check that out. It is the wrong battery fo the job, plain and simple. Replace your moto droid batteries and you will see a huge difference too. You can charge the new batteries for less time(4 hours or less pending on charger) and they will say full, but you get bad results when you short change your batteries charge time. To get the most out of my batteries, I charge them for a full 8 hours, the reason I am getting another battery and ext charger with dock.(http://store.androidcentral.com/mobi-products-cradle-w-spare-battery-slot/5A100A6693.htm) and the battery I am getting (http://store.androidcentral.com/seidio-innocell-1750mah-extended-battery/8A37A6399.htm) or the bigger battery (http://store.androidcentral.com/seidio-innocell-3500mah-extended-battery/8A37A6374.htm) You can find better prices but these are for reference. A note on airplane mode: It disable all radios in the phone. You will not receive calls and txt/mms messages. Basically it turns your phone into a PDA. You can enable the wi-fi for access. Since I replaced my battery I don't do it that often but sometimes I find it neccesary to use airplane mode for some of the remote desktop use I do on my phone.

  • Consistant Problems with Google Navigator on Droid Eris

Is anybody else having problems with their Google Navigator on a Droid Eris.  This application stinks - I can never expect it to be there when I need it.  About a month ago I was using it up in Northern Minnesota to get to a doctors appointment about halfway into the hour long drive it told me "GPS signal lost" then it proceeded to tell me "searching for GPS".  It never found the GPS despite the fact that I was in Duluth - a larger city in Northern Minnesota.  I ended up having to call the receptionist and she became my turn by turn navigator - embarrassing. I never had this problem when I had the VZ Navigator it was always very reliable. 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t work or takes so long to find a GPS signal that you get lost!  Are there any tips, tricks or patches for this?  I am seriously considering purchasing a Tom Tom.

Did you get any answers to your inquiry?  I'm having the same problem with my Android LG Ally.  Also want to connect with other users to find out how to get the last verbal instruction repeated.  I miss that from my VZ Navigator.  Is there a trick to triggering it?
