Droid incredible questions: extended battery, issues, battery charging phenomenon, apps

hi. im considering the droid incredible as a possible droid i want to purchase for myself when my contract runs out with my other service provider. ive been researching alot about it and the droid x (another choice) and wanted to ask about some new things that have come up that i would like to know more about.
1) lately ive been noticing more and more about these extended batteries for the droid incredible that take it from the 1300 mah to 2150 or this big one, the 3500. the 2150 is on the verizon website and stuff while the others are from amazon and other websties. first of all is this safe to have on a phone like this? does having a bigger battery and somethign go wrong with teh phone due to it ruin the warranty or something (thats assuming im using the proper extended battery from verizon store)? is getting a extended battery from another company or store a bad idea, and if so why?
and if any more information about the extended batteries that you could share with me would be great also.
2) have there been any great issues about the droid incredible that is outside the normal (glithces, restarts, and so forth) that one should consider?
3) there has been something on the internet about a different way of charging the phone so to get better battery life out of it. i think it goes charging it then unplug the phone then turn off phone then plug back in for 20 mins then finally phone charged. is that really necessary or something? is that a problem for the phone right now?
and lastly
4) does the droid incredible get the same kind of apps all the other phones do or does it get special ones just for it?
thanks for your help

1.  We recommend the extended batteries that we offer, as those batteries are  quality tested and come with a manufacturers warranty.  We do not recommend batteries from third party vendors, because unapproved batteries may damage the device and can void the manufacturer's warranty.  If the battery is offered by HTC and a supported product, you can check with the manufacturer to see if it would be covered with the Manufacturer's Warranty.  The Extended 2150mAh battery is the battery that we recommend.  That battery will not affect the Manufacturer's Warranty.  It actually comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty on it.  The 2150mAh battery is basically the same battery, as the standard battery, it just has a lower the battery voltage discharge over a set time interval making it last longer.
2.  Issues with the HTC Droid Incredible are pretty much like any Smartphone device, there are problems that come up, but those are usually fixed with updates.  Because you are getting  a later build of the device, it is unlikely that you would encounter any significant issues with the device.
3.  There is no need to charge the battery in any other way than the recommended way.  Newer batteries are more resistant to overcharging and will charge quickly.
4.  The HTC Droid Incredible would  have access to the Android Market Place.   It would  have access to over 10,000 applications  on the Android Market.

• Case for Droid 2 using extended battery

What are cases that work with the Droid 2 using the extended battery? I have the blue plastic one that has the raised back to fit the extra space for the extended battery, but i feel it makes the phone look cheap. On the website, the black graphite cover says it fits the extended battery. Any advice?

• 7925/7921 Extended Battery Charges

Hi All,
Just curious how many charges the extended battery for the 7925/7921 can hold over the course of it's lifetime.
Thanks!

This was answered in the recent post below.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2238412?tstart=0
The current battery technology allows for around 300-500 full charging cycles (charging from empty to full) before it will lose around 20-30% of its capacity.
So should expect to replace the battery every 2-3 years.

• Extended battery charge thru computer after charging fully thru AC adaptor?

I got a 20 gig Ipod about a year and a half ago.
Sometimes, after I've charged using the AC adaptor to the point where it's showing as fully charged, if I then hook it up to my computer, it will charge even more.
I do that when it's charge isn't holding very long. Then the charge holds a lot longer.
But why is that happening? I mean, if the Ipod is showing as fully charged, how is it that I'm able to charge it more?
Is there a way to fix the Ipod so that charging it through the AC adaptor will charge it to its greatest capacity? Or do I just have to charge it through my computer, too, every now and then?

You probably need to calibrate the battery and the
battery meter
have a read of this
http://www.vsa.cape.com/~danh/ipod.htm
Thanks Mitch.
That's an interesting site. I'm going to Cozumel this weekend. But when I get back I'll try calibrating the meter.
I don't think it's the meter though, because charging it additionally through the USB port solves the problem of the Ipod not being able to play all day.
My modus operandi is play the ipod at work, come home and plug it in for recharge and let it charge all night. Then unplug it and take it to work in the morning. Play all day, charge all night. And then if it runs out of juice too quickly, which only happens maybe every month or so and I can't listen to music all day long, then when I get home I charge it all night, then charge it some more through the USB port, which lets me play it all day again.
So I'd think the part where he wrote that when you charge the Ipod through the USB the Ipod "...may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery..." would be correct except for the fact that after I do charge it through the USB it winds being able to play all day again.
Although I'm not especially worried about this I would like to figure out what it is. I wish the guy, DanH, that wrote put together that site you referred me to had a contact email on his site so we could ask him what he thinks.

• Droid 3 question - facebook contacts issue

When I first got my droid 3, i cleaned out my contacts. I hid a bunch of people that were synched up with my facebook. Now I have a phone number for one of the people I hid and I can't find how to unhide her. I don't see a hidden contact list, it wont bring her name up when I edit and try and join her to a contact. Short of having to unlink from my facebook (which I don't want to go through the hassle of linking everyone again/hiding people) is there a way for me to link the new contact and her facebook? I can't find anything online.

• Extended Battery for HTC Incredible

Any VZW folks have an ETA on the 2150 extended battery coming in stock?  I called my local store and they show it and it's priced at $60 for a HTC 2150 with back plate as well.  They said the warehouse shows it hasn't come in yet.

This may not be correct but I found this:
http://htcpedia.com/news/htc-droid-incredible-2150-extended-battery.html
"HTC Incredible owners, as many of you know how frustrating it can be when the battery in your phone doesn't last enough to go through the day. We have been anxiously expecting to get some original HTC 2150mAh extended batteries for Droid Incredible around the end of May, however we have just learned that its release date has been pushed back to late July.
For more than few weeks we've had an estimated arrival date for HTC Droid Incredible 2150mAh extended battery around end of May. As of today it has been pushed back to late July 2010. We're not sure what has caused this delay, but this will definitely make some Incredible owners upset.
For those of you who are looking to get the 1500mAh extra capacity battery for HTC Incredible, you'll get a nice boost of power enough to get through the day with an extra 200mAh."

• Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro (K920) battery charging time

Hello everyone,
I wonder, if anyone could help me, please.
I'm experiencing an interesting issue related to battery charging procedure of brand-new Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro (K920).
The thing is, the first two battery charging procedures took about let say 2 hours 40 minutes both.
But the third battery charging procedure took about 3 hours and 10 minutes exactly!, which I consider to be rather strange, mostly because of web reviews of this smartphone, where 2 hours and 30 minutes typical charging time is described.
I understand the fact that brand-new battery has to be initially "formatted" and it's capacity is therefore gradually increasing after few battery charging attempts.
Needles to say, after that third battery charging procedure, the battery life has been also significantly improved. I use genuine Lenovo charger which comes with the phone in the box. The only thing, which I changed since first two battery charging procedures, was turning ON "Core efficiency" in the Lenovo Battery Manager.
Could it be the reason of such extended battery charging time or is it perfectly normal bacause of gradually improving capacity for brand-new battery? Could it be defective battery? Has anyone of the owners the same experience or what is yours typical battery charging time using in-box charger?
Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestion, explanation.
Martin

• T420 unable to use extended battery slice

It is rather disconcerting to have the laptop stop and go blank when the battery life indicator says there is more than 6 hours of life left.
My T420 has a 55+ main and 27++ extended battery.  If it is using the main battery for power, when the main battery reaches 0%, it will fail to switch to the extended battery and die.  It doesn't just shut down, it stops.  Windows doesn't like this.  If the machine is using the extended battery for power, it can successfully switch to the main battery when the extended battery reaches 0%.
There appears to be no "approved" way to force the laptop to use the extended battery first.  I've only had this laptop a couple of weeks, but in my experimentation, the laptop preferentially uses the battery with the lowest percentage first.
For normal use, I've programmed the extended battery charge profile to stop at 95%, This will get the laptop started on the right battery when both are connected, but doesn't help if I'm out and about using the main battery and want to extend by adding the extended battery.
The only method I've found to force the laptop to use the extended battery when the main battery is at lower capacity is to just remove the main battery.  Of course, to do this, I have to either shutdown the laptop or put it in hibernate.  Then, remove the main battery and attach the extended battery.  Restart the laptop.  So far, I haven't had any problems with this method. The laptop is perfectly happy with just the 27++ battery attached.  But if I'm going to go switching batteries out, I might as well just have an extra 55++ lying around and dispense with the 27++.
It would be nice if Lenovo could provide instructions or a software fix that would allow me to tell the laptop to preferentially use the extended battery whenever it is available.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

A few days ago, when it was supposed to switch over, it just stopped.  No standby, shutdown, or hibernation.  Then, upon restart, Windows complained about being shutdown improperly.  I presume that is what you call a hard off.  At that time, I had left the computer on and open and walked away, expecting it to sleep on its own.  The main battery was untouched and had 98% of capacity left when I restarted Windows.
I managed to get it to discharge totally again last night.  It made the switch correctly again.  Then, I charged up just enough to run with the extended battery for half an hour.  That time, it made the switch correctly again.  Both times, I was watching a video.
I suspect that the last time it didn't make the switch, I may not have had the main battery locked.  If the main battery lock functions as a switch just like the one on the extended battery that may be the issue.
I'm glad you are adding that information to the power manager.  The power manager clearly knows there is a battery attached, any warning it could give that the switch configuration is not optimal would be most helpful.  (you know, to help the id10t user like me)
If you are updating Power Manager, I have a suggestion. Or two.
I noticed that the percentage remaining is calculated on the total capacity of both batteries.  This affects the power alarms.  When one battery is connected, 5% of the battery capacity is at one value of available watt-hours, but when two batteries are connected, 5% is a different value of available watt-hours.  Is my assessment correct?  Is there any way to make the behavior normalized regardless of the battery configuration?  Since there are so many battery configurations, is % even the right measure for the alarms, wouldn't we rather use minutes?  Of course, I realize that % is always a true number, but minutes varies depending on load, so maybe minutes is a bad idea.
The taskbar icon.  Is there a way to get the tooltip to contain info about both batteries? As separated information?
The computer is fully charged right now, my next opportunity to test one more hypothesis is several days away.  My hypothesis has to do with the level of interaction I'm having with the computer at the time of the switch.  I've noticed that every time it failed to switch over, I was not actively involved (i.e. I walked away or had the computer doing something while I was doing something else).  Every time it successfully switched, I was either watching a movie or was intermittently using the computer (sleep, unsleep, sleep, ...)  Of course, this could all be a red herring, but since it seems to be successfully switching from extended to main battery right now, I can test this hypothesis in 8 or so hours of use. ( about three days).

• HTC DROID INCREDIBLE DESKTOP SYNC & CHARGER FOR 2150 mAh BATTERY

While I await my HTC DROID INCREDIBLE I did what I always do when buying any mobile device; I ordered the largest capacity battery so I never have to put up with the low batt message. Talk to people all the time & they are always having to charge their batteries cause they never get the extended battery. Anyway, two 2150 mAh batteries with backs, are in route to my house. Question is, where is a desktop/sync charger for this phone that  will also charge these larger batteries
I will be needing to sync w/my PC. Like the desktop docking station style. Easier to see too.
Anybody looking into this one???
Oh yeah, Yes, I gave up the iphone. To much inconsistency about the truth of whether Verizon was getting it. Jobs may have said it's coming to providers but as usual, no date.
Yes, I know about LTE. My antique E815 is dying & so was my patients
Hope this Incredible is a good one. I did notice the touch screen was excellent. That impressed me
Found this Sync/charger online. Company says it will accommodate the 2150 mHa battery while docked plus charge the second 2150 mAh battery too. Not sure I believe them.  I asked them if it didn't work can I return it. They told me yes but there would be a restocking fee. I replied, "You are guaranteeing me it will work but if for some reason it does not you are gonna charge me a restocking fee???" They said, "Yes". Don't like the sound of that.
http://www.thinkhtcincredible.com/htc-droid-incredible-desktop-charger-10078.html

i don't think that will work. the micro usb port on the phone is on the lower left side of it.....RIGHT where it appears the dock you posted has side grips for the phone. this looks more like a universal type of dock that would work.....if htc hadn't put the port on THE SIDE of the phone (don't get me started on this....i just dont get why they didn't put the port on the bottom???). i suspect that there is no real dock for the inc because the port is on the side and our homescreen doesn't go to landscape mode (don't get me started on that either). there are some decent universal stands that i've seen....but nothing that the phone will just plug into.

• Droid Bionic Extended Battery Issue

I dropped my phone, only about a foot and the battery pack didn't even pop out. I've had bigger crashes and couldn't believe this small crash broke my phone. Took it to Verizon.  They told me the insurance deductible was $90 (what a rip off). Also the Bionic had been discontinued so they couldn't replace my phone with the same one.  I already have the extended battery they upsold me on so I wanted to explore other options.  My husband suggested trying my original battery. This worked. Almost paid $90 for insurance for a new phone when the fix was simple. Now I have to figure out what they will do for me since it is a battery issue and not related to my dropping the phone.  Thought someone out there might want to know about this so they don't get ripped off by insurance.

How is paying $90 for a $600 phone a ripoff?

• First battery charge and current issues?

Hi!
I just bought a new MacBook (2.0 GHz, 160 GB). I have two quick questions:
1. I plugged in my AC adapter, turned on the notebook for about 5 minutes to make sure it works fine, etc, then shut it down to let the battery charge. Would I have lost any battery capacity by not fully charging the battery first? And do I need to let the battery run through a full cycle when I first use the computer to ensure full capacity?
2. Are there any updates/best practices for the 2008 (December) MacBook batteries? I know there was an issue in 2007, but for the new line am I set to go? And is it still best practice to put shut the Mac down instead of putting it to sleep to save wear and tear on the hard-drive/battery?
sorry for all the questions: it has been 5 years since I bought my last notebook so I am a bit rusty/excited!

• IPAD 3 battery charging issues

iPAD 3 battery charging issues. Read most of the discussions. My question is: If I take my iPAD to Apple Genius bar - what's the test they do to qualify for a replacement (do they place it on a charge and see the charge for Y% for X minutes or do they have other methods)

We're iPad users like you, so don't know.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Extended battery life for droid 2 ?

how much longer ...will the battery last with an extended battery for the droid 2?

My battery lasts well. After reading about Froyo 2.2 having an internal app/task manger, I uninstalled my Advanced Task Manager and my battery is lasting noticeably longer. It's quite good for a smartphone now. It is important to remember to 'break in' the battery when you get the phone, by charging it up to full then letting it run down to 5% then charge fully (uninterrupted) to full and do this the first 2 or 3 power cycles with your phone and it will increase battery life a LOT. If you have an ATK on your Droid 2 or original Droid with the 2.2 update, uninstall it,  that was  the best thing I did.

• Extended battery  question

anybody know how to fully charge an extended battery? it takes just as long to charge the extended battery as it does the normal one, and i am afraid that it isn't being charged to its fullest extent. by the way it is a 2700 mAh battery from handhelditems.com...

From HTC Tech support:
I understand your concern regarding battery life on your Nexus One device. The following steps should significantly extend the battery life on your phone. Please connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it. You need to use this sequence only once. If the issue of battery life on our phone persists, I recommend you contact our HTC accessory department directly, by dialing 1-888-716-3594. Their business hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM Eastern Time...
Did this on extended battery and it works great.

• 3GS Battery Charging Firmware/Circuitry Logic Question

When the iPhone is critically low on power, but plugged in, does it stop charging if you try to use it? If so, what triggers it to resume charging again?
Here's what happened last night. I ran my new 3GS down to shutoff for the 2nd consecutive time yesterday. For the last 20% (to make it die quicker), I turned EVERYTHING on, turned off autolock and let it sit. It shut off normally after it hit 0%. (FWIW, I got about 7hrs of usage, and almost 3 days of standby out of it). After giving the battery an hour or so to rest, I then plugged it in to my powered USB hub, and I got the big battery charging picture with the red sliver. After 5-10 min, it booted up, went to the charging screen and locked - so far, everything normal. I then pressed the home button, unlocked it and went in to put all my settings back to normal (basically everything off). While I was doing this, I got the 'less than 10% power' warning which I dismissed. I also noticed that the little battery icon in the upper right corner was red, and didn't show as charging. When I was done fixing my settings, I pressed the power/sleep button to put it to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, it hadn't charged. It was exactly where I left it, and immediately when I pressed the home button, I heard the chimes and the small battery icon switched to the charging symbol.
Is this normal behavior, a 3.0 bug, or do I have a defective unit?
Thanks for any insight!

Ok - fair enough. I guess I should have left that question out of the original post. The primary questions were at the top of the post. Ultimately I do want to figure out if my unit is defective, but it's going to be a tedious process that will involve a few discharges (if I can squeeze them in before I run out of exchange time.) My normal debug process involves first verifying that the problem is repeatable, then iterating while changing as few parameters as possible until I can to narrow in on the issue. However, rather than just jumping in and changing random parameters, I try to take somewhat of a methodical approach - which starts by understanding how things are supposed to work first. So my initial questions stand. Any takers out there?
I'm sorry guys. I know this must seem like a no brainer - I should just take it in and exchange it. However, I have no Apple stores within a 150 mile radius, and AT&T would need to order me a new one. In addition, I like the one I have, and I don't want to exchange it if it isn't defective. Thanks for being patient with me.
