Droid Incredible - Terrible Phone

I'm really sad to say that the Droid Incredible has turned out to be a terrible phone.  I loved it for almost 18 months, then I started having "problems".  The problems I have been having started with the Google Navigation several months ago - this was my favorite feature of the phone.  The phone shut down in the middle of navigation when I was a few turns from my destination.  From there it has gotten steadily worse.  I took it to the Verizon store a the beginning of December when it went into a reboot loop - i.e. it shut down, then rebooted to the "eye" screen, then shut down again and went on an endless loop.  The nice people at the store did a factory reset for me.  At the time I did not know this was a common problem with Droid Incredible.  Now I know and have lost count of the number of factory resets I have done on the phone since early December - probably 8-10.  I just did another one today.  My phone has been usable for about 15 of the last 24 hours, but now my texting feature doesn't work at all.  That is a new development in the failures of this phone.  I have not used navigation in about 2 months because it reliably shuts my phone down.  Yesterday the simple Google directions feature made my phone shut down, again just a few turns from my destination.  Since early December I have probably had to reboot/restart my phone 30 or so times due to reboot loop.  When this does not work, I do some kind of cache partition clearing, and when that does not work is when I have to do factory reset.  I have searched these forums and see that the only recommendations Verizon has are to buy a new phone, buy a refurbished phone or next time buy insurance.  This is the first time in about 10 years I have been truly disappointed by Verizon.  The worst is when my phone is in a loop and nothing helps, I try to go online for support, but I can't get email support for that problem, they say I must call.  I CAN NOT CALL FROM A BROKEN PHONE.  I am planning on upgrading to the iPhone, but my full upgrade is not due until late April.  I am trying to trudge through with this terrible phone until then, but it is becoming nearly impossible.  It is simply unacceptable for a device that is supposed to be a contender to the highest rated smart phones to behave this way with no support and that the device does not last even a full 2 years.  I do realize that this is mostly an HTC issue, not a Verizon issue, but that doesn't make me any less frustrated.  It is also suspcious that there are no other posts on these issues here.  I guess that would be bad for business.  I am not a complainer, very seldom do I complain, but these major problems seem like they are being ignored or swept under the rug.

I agree with you100%. I got this phone from my grandmother because she recently upgraded to the bionic. when i got the phone the sd card was fine. it showed pictures well, i could unmount the card and everything was ok. well i put my sd card in, pictures came up fine. well, i had to do an update and the card wouldn't read anymore. so i called ts and they troubleshot the phone. factory reset idk how many times. they sent another one. same thing. seems like after the update it wouldn't work. i have went thru three of those phones and i have this phone. oh did i mention that the sd card that came out of the phone and the one i was using worked in any other droid, multi-media phone, computer, whatever I put it in.

  • Droid incredible 2: phone says that i need to insert an sd card

Ever since I got my replacement phone whenever I open up my camera or photos my phone will say that I need to insert an SD card. Problem is that I already put in my SD card so I've no idea why it's asking for it. Anyone know what's up with my phone?

    I have gotten this to.
My theory is that is has something to do with the fact the my SD card came from a Fascinate and now I am using it in a Droid Incredible 2 and there may be some compatiability issues.
When I get that message, I do one of two things....restart the phone or pull the SD card and re-insert. One of them usually works and I have no issues after that.
My fear is that the correct solution is to reformat the SD card which would wipe it clean and I do not want to do that.
Yes, it's certainly possible that the card should be reformatted.   But can you read it in a computer?   If so, I would just copy all the contents off, reformat in the DINC2, then put the card in the computer and copy the contents back.

  • Droid Incredible 2 - phone will not open, people will not open, etc.

Last week my Droid Incredible 2 started acting funny. First I can no longer open the phone tab to make a call. I also can not see my contacts through the people icon. When i get a message I also no longer see the photos and names, only the phone number. Everything else on the phone is working. I also receive an error which says "Google services framework (process com. google. process. gapps) Stopped unexpectedly". I have powered the phone off and let it sit then powered back on a few times this has not fixed the problem. I have the most current update. It seems like a software issue, but not sure how to fix it. Any help would be great! Thanks

Have you tried pulling the battery, letting the phone sit for half a minute, re-inserting the battery and restarting the phone?  A battery pull does a soft reset and often solves problems like this.

  • Droid incredible 2 phone calls can't be answered

If my Android Incredible 2 is in the sleep mode and the screen has gone dark when a call comes in the slide answer feature does not work.  It is a brand new phone so I have not uploaded apps (some internet posts claimed too many apps wrecked the answer function).  I know slide down is answer and slide up is ignore but neither works.  Please advise.
    Thanks.

    Hello Ann154,
This is highly unusual for this device since it's new to the market. Have you tried a factory reset on the device? If that doesn't resolve the issue, we may have to look into additional options. Please respond to this post if you decide to do so.

  • When I plug my Droid Incredible 2 into a car charger the phone is now permanently in"Car Mode" and won't get out. I heard that Droid will fix this, but it hasn't happened.  Does anyone know how to fix i

I have a Droid Incredible 2 phone.  I bought  car charger and ever since I have used it, the phone thinks it is in "car mode" even when the phone is in my home, my purse,...I sets to speaker and I can not hear the phone ring.  It freezes on "car mode".  I heard that Droid is supposed to be fixing the problem, but nothing has happened yet.  Is anyone else having this problem, and does anyone at Verizon know when/if this will be fixed.  If not, I expect a new phone from Verizon.

there are two ways, usually if u restart the phone it will reset, but the other is going to your system and shut it off manually...

  • DROID Incredible in a cycle of crashing

After doing a software upgrade on my DROID Incredible, my phone started crashing every once and a while. I took it to the Verizon store and they did a reset (not fully, because my apps and contacts were saved, but I can't give you more information than that because I'm very UN-tech savvy), and for a while it worked fine. Just recently it began crashing again, and today it got into a cycle of going through start-up and as soon as it got to the loading phone storage part it would restart. Currently it is stuck at the white htc incredible screen. I tried taking the battery out and putting it in again, but the phone just crashed again.
I wanted to save my files onto my computer, but my computer refuses to acknowledge the device.
Any suggestions of how to fix it, or do I just need to go to the store?
    Thanks

I've been complaining to Verizon about the cycling problems since the last software upgrade.  I will have me second replacement phone tomorrow.  I'm not holding my breath to see if this helps as the common thread between the phones is the software.
They did say they could send me an "upgraded" phone @ no charge, I would only have to pay for the battery and back cover, for $50.  I told them no way.  You sent the software upgrade that caused the problems, I didn't ask for it.  Unfortunately rolling back the software is not an option.
If this doesn't get resolved with out any out of pocket expense I'll likely be looking for another carrier.

  • Droid incredible front facing camera

How do I set up camera on my Droid Incredible HTC phone to take selfies? All I get is a blank screen

We want to get you seeing the whole picture, mackdaddy59. There aren't any special steps that are needed to set up the front camera. While you're in the camera application, tap Menu/Settings then Switch Camera to flip between the Main and Front cameras. Make sure it you're using a case on your phone that it's not covering the top section where the front facing camera is located on the Incredible 2 or Incredible 4G LTE. If you have the original Incredible, there was no front camera.

  • Browsers, some apps keep quitting on Droid Incredible. Ideas before I reset phone?

In the last month or so, my Droid Incredible has developed a really annoying problem. My full-featured web browsers (including Dolphin HD, and the stock "internet") won't run. They quit seconds after launched.
Is anyone else seeing this problem? Know what's causing it? I know app conflicts can be very user-specific, but ya never know...
Opera Mini runs reliably, and Dolphin mini runs sometimes (but quits more often than it runs). So I am able to browse the web. But Opera Mini doesn't support "share page" functionality (via e-mail, bookmarklets, etc.), which is something I rely on heavily and am no longer willing to do without on a phone I'm paying $110/month for.
In addition, some apps I really like (including AppBrain and Shazam) also are quitting seconds after launch.
I've uninstalled all apps that I'm not using. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Dolphin HD and Mini, as well as the other apps that have ceased running. I've done the battery pull twice, and have also cleared the cache on most of my apps. I deleted a bunch of media files to free up space. No dice.
I'm at the point where I'm going to have to start uninstalling the apps that I'm using. I'm very reluctant to do this, since I just had to go through this tedious exercise a couple of months ago to correct a different problem. And if it is an app conflict, then I'm wondering whether backing up the apps to the SD card, resetting the phone, and restoring them would solve the problem. I mean, if I'm restoring the same apps, wouldn't it be likely that I'd have the same conflict problem?
My phone is not rooted, and I don't want to root it.
Can anyone suggest something else I might do short of uninstalling all my apps and doing a factory reset to try to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

I have the same exact problem, I pretty much can't even use my internet function with this phone. it always freezes and quits in the middle of anything. I'm kind of thinking it's a glitch with this phone unfortunately, I have a few friends who also have the same bad droid luck with the internet or any applications running properly. I'm wondering if a few of the phones just need to be re-called with the Droid HTC Incredible model. I'm paying for the internet service and wish I was just back to my simple LG phone with the 39.99 a month bill, that's about the quality of service I'm getting.
I wish I had better information for you, but I guess you can just re-set and delete all your applications over and over again like Verizon suggests. I'm tired and don't want to even bother at this point.  I want my money back for the internet service I don't get, very bummed indeed...

  • Free Droid Incredible phone deals available elsewhere!

I'm ticked! I upgrade our phones from the Blackberry to the Droid Incredible at a cost of $250($500-$250rebates). Today, I get an email from Dell stating that I can get two free Droid Incredibles with an upgrade and two year contract. So, I google Verizon phone offers and find several other sites that make similar offers. Before I go down and raise some cane @ the local Verizon store, can anyone tell me if I'm waisting my time in trying to get my money back? Yes, I know, some sites state that the offer is only available for new subscribers. Why should I be punished for being a loyal 20 year customer?
    Thanks

I got this offer from Dell also...reading some of the fine print:
This offer is fulfilled by Simplexity, an authorized dealer for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. This offer requires activation with selected AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon Wireless service plans. Verizon Wireless offers are for new accounts only. Offer subject to eligibility check by AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless, including credit approval or deposit for new customers. Offer applies to primary and second lines only. Discount will be invalid if the rate plan is changed to a lower monthly service rate, or if this equipment is transferred to another line of service. Additional restrictions apply. See terms and conditions for details. Not all U.S. markets are served by AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless. Limited Time Offer. See Offer Details.
Note the bolded lines - Although it states new line of service OR UPGRADE on the ad, the find print says NEW ACCOUNTS ONLY - so I'm not sure what really applies.  And as others have said, you can't make changes to your plan or move the phone to another line, along with other fine print not specificed here.
It may very well be terms you can live with - if so, make the deal!  Just be aware of all the restrictions and requirements and then decide if it is the deal for you.

  • Droid Incredible is the best phone!!!!!!!!!!

The Droid Incredible is good phone, fast video and Internet, one problem the battery is bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

it doesn't make the phone useless at all. i actually don't use wifi as i find it plenty fast on 3g. however, if i do want to use it, it takes about 5 seconds to turn it on. there's just no point in having it on wifi 24-7. when you want to browse then turn it on. also, i have the screen set at about 30% bright and find that it's actually better this way when i'm out in the sun and inside it still looks amazing. i leave gps on though. it's just like any electronic device. if you leave all the bells and whistles running, even when you're not using them, it'll drain the battery faster.

  • If my Droid Incredible fails can I use my Moto V9 or another cell phone?

If my Droid Incredible fails can I use my Moto V9 or another non smart phone until I can get the HTC  fixed or replaced? Got  motorola 220 and unlocked V3, V9 but this is my first smartphone.

Motorola V9 is a GSM phone. So that phone is incompatible for Verizon. Verizon runs on CDMA network.  Razr V3 is another GSM phone...so no that will not work on Verizon.  Are you referring to eh Motorola V220?  Again that is a GSM phone. That won't work on Verizon either.
Basically all the phones you mentioned are incompatible for Verizon. They all run on GSM network. Even if the phones are unlocked it still won't work. Different cell phone network frequencies.

  • Droid Incredible 4G LTE - Ridiculous bloatware killing phone (Staff response requested)

Before you even read all of it, please tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree, and where I need to go to get an answer to this.
My question is: Why can't I uninstall default apps I don't want?
I was given a Droid Incredible 4G LTE for Christmas to replace my 4 year old Droid Eris, and while I really really like this phone, its battery life is an issue. So my first thought is, "keep the brightness down, install a task killer and see if that helps." Hardly. My battery life has gone from 6 to around 8 hours of minimal use, so I've done some more digging around. Looking around the advanced task killer app on my incredible 4g LTE, I am appalled at how many forced applications and services are on this phone, AND how they start up randomly and cannot be stopped. I have multiple examples prepared after only owning this phone for three days.
First off, what in the world is the deal with this forced bloatware? NFL Mobile, Amazon Kindle, TuneIn and Slacker radio, Amazon MP3, Verizon Tones, Google+, etc. These apps cannot be uninstalled, and many of them open automatically upon startup and slow the phone/eat battery life. Ex: slacker radio, google+, Amazon MP3 opens whenever I open my music. I can't even disable them without having to root my phone and use an app freezer, and I can't even do that because Verizon refuses to release an HTCDev unlocker for the 4G LTE. (but I can sort of understand that for people taking advantage of the 4g capability)
Why in the world would anyone think that this was a good idea?
I fully read the terms and conditions of my contract to ensure that this wasn't included, and after nearly an hour, Verizon does not reserve any right to manage a user's personal applications against their will, only the phone's operating system. I don't want NFL Mobile, Amazon Kindle, TuneIn and Slacker radio, Amazon MP3, Verizon Tones or Google+, and I have no way to uninstall or disable them. That is RIDICULOUS. I even have an option to defer from software/firmware updates, the fact that I can't remove these unwanted applications is insulting.
    Also, some other examples:
4 instances of Google Maps open at once for no apparent reason. I don't have anything (weather widget, clock, weather lock screen) that warrants google maps or location services needing to open. What in the world is going on there?
My bluetooth service cannot be force stopped.
My Notes (two instances of this app open) and Calender applications open randomly; although I intend to keep and use these apps, this is very annoying.
Facebook opens randomly for no apparent reason.

The DROID Incredible 4G LTE should already be running either Android 4.0+ for its operations system. Which means you can disable many of the pre-installed applications. Go to settings > Apps > slide to the All view. Disable each application individually. You might have to uninstall any updates before the disable button is available.
The DROID Eris is only three years old. It was released in November 2009. 12 minus 9 equals 3.
Also you should be aware, you posted your message on the Verizon Wireless Community. This is a peer to peer forum where customers can give suggestions and advice to other customers with their questions and issues.
If you need immediate assistance call customer service at *611 from your phone or 1-800-922-0204 from another phone. You can also use the "Contact Us" link at the top of the website. However the response from that avenue might also be delayed due to the holidays.

  • Droid Incredible Phone Storage

Is there a way to access the phone storage on the droid incredible?
I downloaded music files onto the sd card, and that worked fine, however when I removed the memory card, one of the albums was still on the phone along with the few sample songs that were pre installed on it.
I would like to erase that album and put it on the memory card, but cannot figure how to access it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

From a PC: when plugging your device in via USB select to sync as a Disk Drive. Two drives will open: your SD card storage and your internal 8GB of storage. Drop and drop the files as needed.
If it doesn't give you the option to choose how to sync right at plug-in, you can change your default option by going to Settings > Connect to PC > Default Connection Type. Or make sure the "Ask Me" box is checked and it will ask you how to sync every time you plug in.
Or you can do it directly on your phone - but you'll need to download some type of file explorer program for your phone. I recommend Astro or Estrongs File Explorer. Both are excellent apps with lots of built in features.
    Hope that helps!

  • Droid Incredible 2 Echo while talking on the phone

    Anyone else have this issue?
When using my wife's Droid Incredible 2, you can hear your voice over the person on the phone while you talk. It is almost like the phone microphone is too sensitive. I have tried adjusting the call volumes, I turned off all the headset mic amp and voice amps as suggested on the support forums, and I even tried changing the phone configuration by setting all the hardware to communicate only via CDMA and still no dice.
I did some googling on this and it seems this is a problem with the Incredible 2's in general, but google/htc/verizon will not comment on this or provide an update. We are on our third Incredible 2 in the past month, and each one has had this issue. The Verizon store keeps giving us the ** run around of, "your past 15 days to exchange it, even though the phone echo is so bad you cannot talk on it for more than ten seconds."
I just wish we could exchange the phone instead of dealing with this garbage run around customer service. The phone is great other than you cannot really talk on it....
Here is the link I found on the issue by courtesy of the HTC forums:
    http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/124/p/11431/49895.aspx#49895

Every Verizon phone I've ever owned has had this problem.  I believe it's the way Verizon over compresses the cells in order to get by with fewer problems that causes the problem.  I was with a GSM provider for six years and when the company I worked for entered into an agreement with VZ that made me switch carriers the difference in sound quality was like night and day.  The GSM carrier was like listening to music in stereo while Verizon's sound was like mono - tinny with no depth of quality or richness.  I notice the sound is louder on Verizon phones, no doubt an attempt to mask the poor sound quality.

  • Droid Incredible 2 RED - touch screen intermittantly unresponsive Brand NEW Phone!

I just got this phone today and I am having so many issues.  The whole touch screen seems to be SUPER slow.  Then it will lock-up or freeze.  When I put the phone into sleep mode and wake it back up, it will usually unlock.  What can I do to fix this as I have very few apps (4 apps now, but it still froze with 0 apps), did a factory re-set and this is still happening! I am thinking the only link could be to importing my contacts....  Any thoughts?
By the way, HTC, you could FIX THE CURRENT PROBLEMS BEFORE MAKING MORE.  I just had to get this phone because the last update ruined my less then 1 year old Droid Incredible.

    Hello alalsip,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Incredible 2. It sounds like you have done all the troubleshooting steps that's recommended on a new device. The good is that you are within your 14-day return policy. We can exchange your Red Incredible 2 for another at not cost to you. If this solution works for you then that would be great. If you would like to exercise the device exchange to another make and model then you have that option as well. Keep in mind that there may be a price difference, depending on which device you choose, and a $35 re-stocking fee. The original packaging for the Incredible 2 is required should you decide to exercise either option. If you have any questions or concerns as to which option is best for you then feel free to reply to this message for additional assistance.
    Thank you...
