Droid Maxx will not connect to wifi, slide the button to "on" and button automatically switches back to "off"

Yesterday my Maxx stopped allowing me to turn on the WiFi.
If I turn it on in the settings, it automatically slides back to off (in less than 5 seconds), never connects.
In advanced settings under WiFi, mac address is unavailable (don't understand why no mac address is listed here), so is IP address (this one I understand because it isn't connected).
troubleshooting steps taken so far:
1.  power cycled - changed nothing
2.  made sure no 3rd party apps causing issues (uninstalled or stopped) - changed nothing
3.  powered up in safe mode - changed nothing
4.  ran a factory reset/restore - changed nothing
Note:  The phone hasn't been recently updated with a system update and nothing as been installed in over a week before issues
Now what?

Thanks for your efforts, jcma323. I'm going to send you a Direct Message. We'll get to the bottom of this.

  • Droid MAXX will not connect to wifi

Was using my MAXX over the weekend on my home wi fi. Browser froze, I closed and attempted to re open. No wi fi connection. Since then, I cannot connect to my home wi fi, my friend's home wi fi, and a relative's home wi fi. The signals will sporadically show up on my wi fi screen as available. When I attempt to connect, it will say 'connecting' for 1-2 seconds, then not connect. I have cleared all saved wi fi signals and re-entered passwords. I have done several power off/on cycles. I have removed SIM card and powered off/on. Phone is not in airplane mode, mobile hot spot is not turned on. Nothing seems to work. Right now I am completely dependent on Verizon data usage.

I as many of you have been a victim of the KitKat update and its Wifi issues.  I will not spend time sharing my extreme disgust with verizon for not giving me the option not to update as when Jellybean was pushed out, my Moto MAXX Phone was wrecked with so many issues. Thanks to this forum you see you are not alone. I have spoken with 4 different verizon techs and two motorola techs and find it criminal that they were all seemingly unaware of this issue. After 4 hours of calls  spaninng 3 days and frustration,Although everyone in support was sorry and nice, no one could fix the problem.  I did get lucky with a supervisor that suggested that I try putting the phone into airplane mode for a minute and the switch back. Sure enough it then finds and connects to my router and wifi. the only problem is that it only lasts a few hours then drops the WiFI, but at least until a fix is sent to us, I can use my WiFi. I understand this is also happening to Samsung phones as well. They have tried all the time wasting tricks of sim card refresh, cache cleaning etc. i am glad that i did not do a reset. VERIZON, PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CUSTOMERS AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM< INFORM YOUR TECHNICIANS AND SEND AN EMAIL TO US PROMISING TO WORK AS A TEAM TO RESOLVE THIS.ASAP . ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

  • My phone will not connect to WIFI all the time, but if I cut it off and go thru Verizon network the it's fine. Everyone else in my house does not have this problem even tho they have same phone as me. I have restarted, reset, rebooted and done everything

My 4S will get on internet but will not connect to any site including the App store or I tunes. If I cut Wifi off and go thru Verizon network then it is just fine. It is very slow loading tho. Everyone else in my house connects just fine.

    Jglee,
I can understand how connecting to Wi-Fi is very important to maintain better control of your GB. I appreciate all the troubleshooting you have already tried to get this issue corrected.  Does your 4s have the most current software?  You can check this in setttings: Settings>General>Software Update.  Keep us posted.  We are here to help.

  • TS1398 my iPad will not connect to wifi since the ios7 upgrade

Since updading my iPad to iOS7 I cannot connect to WIFI.  I have put the device in airplane mode, reset newtork settings per other suggestions but it didn't work.  I have powered the device off and on.  I have reset home router.  iPhone 5 still works as I refuse to upgrade to iOS7 for now.
Finally got it working.  Continued following the above steps and it worked.  I've tried this at least a dozen times with no success but all of a sudden it worked.  I hope it continues to work.

Try a soft reset or turn the device completely off then turn it back on again. Also you can toggle Airplane mode on for about 10 seconds and then turn it off. Sometimes that resets the radio signal inside the device.
A soft reset is basically holding onto the power button and the home button simultaneously together for about 10 seconds or until you see the screen flash and it should go completely black. Afterwards, tun the device back on like normally and see if that fixes the problem.

That's no good, jeanne1215. Let's get it connecting again. What happens when you try to turn the WiFi on? Did this start after installing a new application or update?

  • I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. Bad job testing the software Apple.

I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. What's the fix? None of the recommended fixes work in any of these devices. Reset device, reset network, renew lease, etc. None of them work.

    Does the iPod work OK?
Does it charge when connect to the computer?
Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1

    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

    Hi jazznola9,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
There are several steps you can take when troubleshooting Wi-Fi connectivity on an iPhone and it sounds like you have already done a few of them already. In your situation I would recommend reading over and working through the steps listed in the attached article.

  • IPod Touch 4gen will not connect to wifi no matter what

My white 8gb iPod Touch 4gen will not connect to wifi, I have reset the network and the entire iPod. When I got it for Christmas 2011 it worked perfectly for a few months then all of a sudden it stopped connecting, every connection I try to connect it to says the same thing; unable to join network... I am getting fed up, my first gen iPod Touch will connect to the wifi no problem, but the thing is it keeps crashing. I can't use it for more than a couple of minutes and it goes back to the home screen. If anyone could help, it is greatly appreciated!

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Restore the phone in iTunes using a backup, and if needed as a new iPhone, without using a backup.  However, the greyed out WiFi is often due to a hardware failure requiring replacement of the phone.

Since the MacBook Pro currently works, you should put it next to the iMac and compare the network settings for AirPort in System Preferences Network pane Advanced. Also, if you want to start off with the default network settings, you can use Location drop down menu and select +Edit Locations+. Then click the plus sign to create a new location. Set up that new location.
On System Preferences Network pane, AirPort should appear at the top of the list (in the sidebar). To change the service order, click on the gear icon and select +Set Service Order+.
Some additional tests you can try, on top of seeing if it works with (1) WEP security disabled and (2) a direct wired connection to the router.
If you get it to work with either (1) or (2), be sure to run Software Update at least two times to apply any recent updates from Apple. See if that makes any difference to using AirPort with WEP back on.
    (3) Start up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
I don't know if any third-party software has been installed on the iMac at this point, but Safe Mode will start up with only the essential Apple extensions and processes running. See if it works any better in Safe Mode.
    (4) Create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. Try connecting with AirPort in the new account.
    (5) Connect the MacBook Pro to the router with a wired Ethernet connection. Make sure its Internet access works. On System Preferences Sharing pane, set it up for +Internet Sharing+ so that it is set to +Share your connection from Ethernet - To computers using AirPort+. On the iMac, try to connect to that wireless network and access the Internet.
That last one (5) may be a good one to try first. It would at least show that the iMac's AirPort is working - you can even set it up to use WEP. If you have any questions about using the +Internal Sharing+ feature, please ask.

  • Macbook will not connect to wifi, an environmental issue with wifi?

Macbook running OSX 10.85 will not connect to wifi, Apple support thinks it could be an environmental issue.  Am connected to wifi right now in recovery mode.  Has this happened to anyone else?  What did you do to correct the issue?  Also, 2 iPhones and an iPad connect without issues.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it. Note: this is not applicable to OS X 10.9 or later.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • IPad will not connect to wifi, shows connection, iPad will not connect to wifi, shows connection

My iPad will not connect to wifi, even though my computer is currently connected.  Airport mode is off, and my iPad shows connectivity in the corner.  Is there any way to fix this without completely resetting the device?

    - Reset the iPad. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Reset networks settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • My 6 day old touch will not connect to wifi .

My 5 day old touch will not connect to wifi. I have reset everything. Tried different networks.  I am willing to do a full restore but because I have no internet I can't turn "find my ipod off"
It worked when I first opened it then it kept disconnecting. I reset "all network setting" and rebooted my router and it would connect.  Now it will not connect at all
On my ipod it finds the network and when I try to put in password it say "incorrect password"

Then restore the iPod using the following
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings

    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
