Droid pro without contract

hello verizon community,
im currently located in germany, and i really want to get my handy onto a droid pro.
since it is only distributed over verizon i was wondering if buying it for the ~480$ and making a month to month plan, which i could cancel after one month (?) keeping the device and sending it to germany would be possible? i mean is it locked to verizon or are there any other obstacles?
would be great to find out, i really love the phone and it seems like another few month before it hits germany!... ;(
thanks for your answers already

The OP just needs to get the SIM lock (subsidy/network code)  undone, which cannot brick the phone.  Of course, you can use it with the VZ SIM, but that will be very expensive for German use.

VZ will unlock the phone for contract customers who have been with them long enough (1 per year), but that wouldn't work for you probably.   However, lots of places will unlock Motorola phones, and I don't think the fact it is a new model really matters (it's keyed of the IMEI, doesn't really matter which phone it is!)

That said, is this such a great phone if you just use it  in GSM mode?  I thought at that price you can do better and get some of the fancy phones that we would like over here!

  • Droid 3 without contract

    Hey,
I'm visiting the USA in a few weeks and thinking about buying the droid 3 and take it with me to Europa.
My question is, can I go in a Verizon store, pay 460$ and get the phone without any kind of contract?
If not, where could I buy it this way?
I know about the Sim lock, I just want to know if i can buy it.
    Thanks for any answer.
    Regards

    Thanks a lot.
What means flexibility  on their pricing? Do they go for 500 instead of 459 or can there be a higher difference?
Anybody saw the prices in a store already? Would be nice to know.

  • Droid Pro- how to delete apps and google maps question

is there anyway I can delete verizon apps off my droid pro?? I mean for example there is the google maps that came on it, a navigation, and VZW navigator that came it. I only use the google maps, and I want the other 2 off and I can't figure it out.
Also,  my google maps updated today, and the new feature on it is 3d maps. How the heck do I find the 3d maps?

Carrier-loaded apps are part of the phones everywhere; Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.  I've had them on even the feature phones--Backup Assistant, Get It Now, etc.  They can not be deleted on any phone on any carrier without [Edited to comply with Terms of Service] which is another topic.  You can set up your home screens to your satisfaction by deleting any unwanted icons--press and hold the icon, then drag it to launcher tab which should be highlighted red--it serves as the trash can.  This is how it worked on my Droid 1.

  • Droid Pro, Poor battery life

I need a new phone to replace my old Blackberry.  I was ALMOST sold on the Droid Pro until I read the reviews and ALL said "extremely poor battery life" .  Has this problem been fixed or are there plans to fix this problem in the future?

Coming from a blackberry you are going to have to get use to the battery life on droids..they are two different beasts
I could go 4 days on my blackberry with 3 emails sync'd, texting and reading some news apps..
I can't get more than 8 hours of use on my droid without having to charge it, but the screen is much larger and i'm doing different things..
If you don't work somewhere you can't charge your phone or don't have a car charger you might not want to go with any droid
There are apps like juice defender that will help you set protocols but the success rate varies
Also check out the pro, the keyboard is much smaller than a standard blackberry keyboard..might as well go with the droid X

  • Droid Pro Won't Charge

I've had a Droid Pro for about 2 months and it has problems charging.  When I leave it on the charger all night, it will be dead in the morning when I wake up.  Sometimes it will be very low.  However, when I first plug it up, it does say that it is charging.  Also, I have purchased a new charger so I know that it is not the charger.  I did a factory reset of the phone and it still has that problem.  Any ideas on what might be the issue would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I have a droid pro. Worst phone ever! Just posted today about my experience. Now I have to wait for them to mail me a new phone and try again. It freezes all the time, icons disappear, bad reception. 2 reps at the store said it should be pulled that it is the worst of the droid phones. And Verizon doesn't seem to care. I am leaving as soon as my contract is up or the term fee isn't an arm and a leg.
    Good luck!

  • Droid Pro Freezing up

I have taken out the battery...rebooted. Sometimes the red X will replay and replay and go no further. sometimes It will boot up but freeze as soon as home screen pops up.  Sometimes (although rare) it will wait 10 seconds to freeze.  I need help!! And fast!! I can't be without my phone as I need it for work!
    TIA

We can get you access to the Droid Pro again, Cohaja12!
Normally when a device continues to freeze, it can be a result of just a little too much going on with the memory.
When you get the red X, when is that happening? Is it random or when you turn the phone on?
Let's begin with clearing internet files http://bit.ly/VKOB6e.
After that is done, you should http://bit.ly/XErg4w.
I'm betting that will help with freezing unless there is something else going on with the device.
    Please keep me posted.

  • Droid Pro "stop sale" at Best Buy

All, apparently Best Buy received a "stop sale" notification from Verizon on the "Droid Pro" today.  This seems to point to a technical issue/problem with the phone, but I was wondering if anyone from Verizon can comment on why the Verizon system will not allow retailers to sell this phone right now?
    Thanks,
    Brian

looks like best buy angered the giant by offering them so cheap.  wouldn't be surprising.

DROID 2 Global and DROID Pro Get Axed at Best Buy
On 12.16.10, In News, by Kellex
We got word yesterday from a reader that Best Buy was no longer selling the Droid Pro (our review) and Droid 2 Global and thought, “Wow, that’s odd…what’s the story BB?”  Well according to reports this morning, they may have been “recalled” by Verizon and not because of some defect.  No, we’re hearing that Verizon was upset at the ridiculously low pricing that BB was offering both devices at which may have broken some sort of contract between the two.  Sounds like no one was buying phones from Big Red and they pulled inventory from BB.  Drama.
and on a side note, this site doesn't play nice with the firefox beta 4.  It just duplicates the content within a post

  • Droid Pro newbie questions

Hello everyone. I just got my new droid pro yesterday (so far I like it!) but I do have a couple questions.
    1. Whenever I turn on wifi it makes everything on the phone stop working, cant use internet, apps, etc. My husbands iphone connects and works fine so I didnt think it was the router but I am not sure. Any tips would be helpful!
    2. Also  I have a little app/widget thing that was preinstalled from the My Verizon and somtimes it says 3G Data - Unlimited Use. After I try to use the wifi I turned it off and now that little red box says Data Usage - Not connected. I checked my account online and it still has the unlimited data package under my number, is this just an app problem or am I really not connected? Everything works (as long as wifi is off) so I wasnt sure.
    Couple of random questions..
    3. Is there a way to change the background color of text messages? Like in the inbox its black, the same with the default email.
    4. Is there a way to have the date stay at the top of the phone instead of just popping up when you go to click notifications? & Have the % of the battery displayed there?
    5. I have my cell phone charging right now and it seems kind of hot, is that normal?
    6.  I want to shut off the notifications from apps, like yahoo, craigslist etc. but cant seem to figure out where to do that.
    7. Is there a way to "wake up" the phone by pressing a button on keypad and then unlock it instead of the power button?
Sorry there are so many questions, I'm not good with change and with this being my first smartphone Im trying to customize it to how I want it as quickly as possible! lol. Any other droid pro tips that you think I would find helpful is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

    1. There are only a handful of laptop battery producers in Asia. The top 5 laptop vendors (including Apple) seem to buy theirs from Sony (this is why, a couple years ago Apple, Dell, and Toshiba were suing Sony for batteries that warped/caught fire).
    2. Yes. You don't even need a screwdriver, just slide the release and it pops out.
    3. The hardware performs the same. Mac OS X performs better than Windows, not quite as well as Linux (on the same hardware). You can find faster laptops with better video cards, but they cut corners elsewhere or cost more.
    4. General quality. The package is well built, OS X is generally well designed and performs well. The physical case is top-notch. The biggest liability is the region-locked optical drive. I've owned a VAIO and it was without question the worst computer I've ever had -- cheesy case and lots of hardware issues.
    5. Macs in general seem to hold their resale value very well. The hardware is typically supported by Apple for longer than PC hardware is by other vendors.
    6. You got me there, no idea.
    7. Apple typically sells them for 15% - 20% when that happens (check store.apple.com), but don't count on there being much of an inventory.
    8. I'm still working on my first, but the company policy is 3 years.

  • Can you install Windows 8.1 Pro using Parallels on a new MacBook Pro without retina display?

I am starting a graduate school program and I would like to purchase a MacBook Pro. The options for the non-retina display fit my needs best, but it sounds like the resolution requirements for Windows 8.1 Pro do not match the MacBook Pro without retina. I need Windows to run a statistics program (SAS) and ArcGIS for mapping. Any thoughts or experience installing Windows 8.1 Pro on MBP without retina?

The native res on my 13-inch non-Retina is 1280x800. You might check with Parallels support or their forums to see if this is a problem.
If you go with the non-Retina 13-inch, I'd recommend getting 8GB RAM (standard is 4GB) because Win emulators need a fair bit of memory.

  • What other methods are there to re-install Win 8.1 pro without losing files & programs, if I am unable to update my Recovery image?

So I am thinking my Windows 8.1 Pro needs a refresh, but I have not ran "recimg /createimage C:\*" for a while and because of the problems I have. I cannot create a new one, it just wont work and I've had a post on here about that issue for a while
now and nothing has worked.  So I know I need to re-install windows but I really want to be able to keep my Programs & files.
So my question is, are there any other methods to re-install Windows 8.1 pro without losing my programs?
That's the reason I have not just done a reinstall, because of the time and effort needed to do this in a timely manner.  Also I need to keep my programs APPDATA intact so that my applications still work as they do now, some programs have got months
of history and data.  Also I am not certain I still have the installers for some of my applications, I know I can get them but again its the time it would take.
This is why I run a separate backup of my APPDATA DIR, am I right in thinking that If I did have to reinstall that I could just restore the old APPDATA data to the new Install and my programs would automatically have all there normal settings?
    So what are my options?
    Thanks peeps.
    JK MCP

Isn't that only used when a PC will not boot?
What options does booting with this give me?
    Thanks
    JK MCP
    Hi,
USB recovery disk was used to recover your system when it encounter problem. You can try to use it to fix your problem instead reinstall system. However, there is no method to keep your program whenreinstall system.

    Dear sir
I bought my iPhone 4 from Apple store in Charlotte N/C about 2years ago without contract.
Now I tried to upgrade it to iOS 7.0.4.but after that my phone not work with last sim card.
And invalid sim appeared.so I bought it without contract but it seems to be lock in my country
Please tell me whats the matter?
    My phone serial no  86034HTCA4T
    Modem firmware  04.12.09
    Thanks

Without contract is not the same as unlocked. The update to iOS 7 relocked
the iPhone to the wireless carrier to which it was originally locked. You must
contact that wireless carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If you used jailbreak or other hack to unlock the iPhone initially, the method
used may prevent a legitimate unlock from succeeding and may render your
    iPhone unuseable.

  • How can I sync my iPhone 4 with a new MacBook Pro without losing all my data and settings?

I used to sync my iPhone 4 with a PC running Windows XP until the hard drive died. Thankfully, I already had a backup of all my iTunes media (Songs, TV Shows, Movies, Podcasts, Apps, etc), so when I bought a new MacBook Pro, transferring my iTunes library was easy.
My problem now is that I want to sync my iPhone 4 with my new MacBook Pro without losing all the data and settings. I have already used iTunes to back it up and transfered my purchases onto the mac. I just need help to sync the iPhone with the Mac without losing app data, emails, contacts, settings.
Everytime I click on the tabs (to sync contacts, apps, music, et al), I get an error message that reads:
"Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone “Ryan's iPhone” will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."
What do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • How can i remove pictures from my droid turbo without having to use the touch screen on the phone at all?

how can i remove pictures from my droid turbo without having to use the touch screen on the phone at all?  my screen is cracked and i am waiting on a replacement phone.  as far as i can tell in order to access the phone storage through my computer, i have to use the touchscreen to enable it so that the computer will see it as a camera.  I can't do that as the top half of the touschscreen is unresponsive.  any suggestions?  teaches me to use the backup services offered in the future, but i still need a short term solution for this time.

I'm sorry to hear your screen is cracked spence425. I know its difficult to use the phone while its damaged. I'm happy you are receiving a replacement device. Have you saved any of your pictures and other data to the cloud? Here is a link about the cloud http://vz.to/1mF0GIx . Unfortunately, you will be unable to remove any data from the phone if the screen is unresponsive but if you are looking to transfer data to your new phone, it would have needed to be saved via the cloud first. Keep us posted.

  • I have many of those lost photos on my iPod.  How can I import those to my MacBook Pro without the iTunes synchronization kicking in and removing them?

I lost rather a lot of photos on a corrupted external storage device.  I have many of those photos on my iPod.  How can I import those
photos into my MacBook Pro without the iTunes synchronization function kicking in and effectively deleting those photos I want to
import from that iPod?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as those photos now only reside on that iPod...

The photos you synced to your iPod through iTunes are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnails of those photos.  So if you do manage to get them off your iPod, they will be quite small in size compared to the original ones you lost.
In order to get them off of your iPod, you'll need the help of some sort of 3rd party software. Here is one option.
