DROID RAZR by Motorola

Anyone else having issues with there Droid Razr camera freezing, navigation freezing and the phone generally not working at all, missed calls, not ringing on incoming calls, missed texts? I bought a new Droid in January 2013 after having the first Droid for almost 3 years and my 3 yr old phone was acting like my new phone that's why I upgraded to a new Droid 4g. Now my new $200+ dollar phone is working worse than my old one. I have already had it replaced one because the customer service rep at the Verizon store did not want to mess with it. I have to constantly have to re-boot the phone a number of times a day.
I went back to the Verizon store today and the phone worked great on the camera and google browser, but had issues with volume and others little things, but all the rep did is say she would write it down and to bring it back when it does it again. I am suppose to drop everything and run to Verizon when the phone has issues.
My dad got a free LG Droid a few months ago and his works much better and faster than my expensive one. I am really disappointed with the level of service with Verizon & Motorola. We have 6 phones on a 10 line plan all of them smart phones with 8gb of service a month you do the math. We have been with Verizon since 2001.

To: Warren M, VZW Support
Thank you for contacting me, regarding the issues I was having with my Droid. But last week I took my second Droid back to the store and after having an in depth discussion with the store manager I ended up having to pay a $35. re-stocking fee, another $50 to chose another phone the DNA and then another $28. for accessories. So all totaled after having two of the Motorola Droids in less than 30 days I had to pay to replace it with a phone that works.
My only other option was to switch carriers and right now I do not have the financial means to do that, but in the future I will be seriously considering it after the issues I had with that Droid in one month and then having to pay a re-stocking fee to return a phone that did not work, even though it was with in 14 days of getting the second phone the mgr said the 14 days starts only on the first phone. I switched to Verizon in 2001 and now have 6 phones on our plan, I think it is time to start looking at other carriers and the support they provide to long time customers. My whole plan is smart phones all with data plans. I am not to happy with the support that the local Verizon store provided when I was having problems with my phone and the extra fee's that I had to pay to get a phone that actually worked.

  • Thoroughly disappointed with Droid Razr

I paid a premium price less than a year ago for a LEMON of a phone -- the Droid Razr by Motorola.  I have now replaced by new phone with three (3) refurbished phones because of the faculty Google operating system and poor manufacturing by Motorola, which is now owned by Google.  Sorry I abandoned my old Blackberry, but I feared the RIM would not survive.

If you could explain the problem you are having, somebody here might actually be able to help you.
And FYI, the RAZR was already being designed, probably built, possibly released before Google took over.  Sounds like you have some pre-determined issues with Google, which should probably be addressed to Google themselves.

I hate my Motorola Droid Razr! After 3 years it has turned out to be a real crappy cell phone. Does not belong in the "smartphone" category. Forever freezes up, doesn't respond to anything I ask it to do. I am purchasing another brand of smartphone and will NEVER go back to Motorola again. I have tried many help/support tutorials and solutions and nothing works.I HATE THIS PHONE!!!

If you've had the phone for 3 years, then it's time for something new. The Motorola phones I've had have been pretty solid, but if you want to switch brands or even providers, then go for it.
Technology changes so quickly that a 3 year old phone, regardless of manufacturer, is likely to seem slow, buggy, laggy - simply because it doesn't have the power to match the network capabilities NOW.  If it's only capable of 3G speeds, it will be slow compared to a phone with 4G capability.  After three years of use, the internal memory may be maxed out, especially if you haven't cleared stuff out, wiped the cache, etc, causing freezing and non-responsiveness.  It may not have enough RAM to effectively run updated apps....
I would say you are due for a new phone - so compare the newest models, go to a store and try them out, and then get whatever brand and model will work best for you.

  • DROID RAZR M by MOTOROLA: Voice No Service / No Signal

Have had Verizon cellular service @ same residence for 15 years with NO lack of service issues here. First Motorola brand phone. Droid Razr needs soft reset every few days due to no signal. Really made a mess of things by not getting calls/ texts for two days. Aps reminders disappear with soft reset as well.If it continues to be the only way for resolution, will not consider Motorola device again.

I'm guessing this is a used phone due to the name of the device as it indicates the possible age.  have you reset or replaced the SIM card?  It is free at a corporate store or free ordered online at Verizon.  I had the Razr Maxx which came out near the same time as the Droid Razr.  It was a very strong phone, beating out the 2 I have had since that were newer by 2 different manufacturers.  I have noticed many people reporting less signal than they used to get, but i don't believe that the Droid Razr should be affected by that theory.

        MrMJG,
Let's get your phone back up and running. Have you been able to try to press and hold the volume down and the power button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds? The phone should reboot for you. Is there any kind of physical or liquid damage to the device? Please keep me posted.

  • Droid Razr Motorola HD less than 1 month and not working

Last month my Droid Razr Motorola HD just stopped working, no reason, just stopped after working the night before.  :-( Posted here BTW, I received a replacement phone, a REFURBISHED on 04/14/2014 and guess what?  yes, it too doesn't work but for another reason, now instead of being dead, I can text but cannot hear anyone when they call me, it is a dead sound, I can call them and sometimes hear a staticy broken up conversation, sometimes nothing unless I put them on speaker!!!   This is as I said less than one month in with this phone, no damage has been done nor has it gotten wet!!  This is extremely unacceptable service!!!!   And why I adhore refurbished phones!!!!!

I'm surprised to see you're having so many difficulties with such a popular phone, Terry_R. The warranty replacements go through pretty rigorous testing to make sure this type of difficulty doesn't occur. Although you can't hear the person, can they hear you? If you look into the headset jack of the phone, do you see any debris or corrosion? Please also make sure the phone is up to date by going to Settings>About Phone>System Updates.

  • Droid Razr Maxx/Issues with Exchange Sync and Texting

I have a Droid Razr Maxx.  Since the KitKat update to 4.4 in May 2014, my Exchange email account will not sync. My Comcast account does.    If I power cycle the phone, it will sync the Exchange account for a short time until I receive the following error message:  'couldn't open connection to server due to sec..."  When I touch the error message, it just goes away.  If there is more of the error message, I'm unable to see it.  I have removed the Exchange account and added it back in three times.  My IT department indicates they have not made any changes to the security levels, but have fielded several questions from other Android users with the KitKat update.  My text messaging service also stopped.  I've been reviewing all forums and tried different things, but to no avail.  I went to the Verizon store, who just said that there have been 'lots' of complaints about KitKat and that I should buy a different phone.  This $200+ phone is only 7 months old.  Please help!!

After deleting and adding my Corporate account, visiting the local Verizon store several times, visiting my IT department, and now wiping the phone and re installing all software, the Corporate email still only syncs when I power cycle the phone.  We are a BYOD company which means every other phone works with the Exchange account.  My phone also worked up until the KitKat update in May 2014. The only recommendation I have received from Verizon is to replace my 8 month old Motorola Razr Maxx with a entirely different phone at full price. The tech I spoke with at Verizon made the statement that she has avoided updating to KitKat given all the customer issues she has had to deal with.
I'm in a technology field and understand when glitches occur, but also expect functionality issues to be addressed. I've been with both Verizon and Motorola for a long time, but very doubtful I will continue this relationship when contract time is up for renewal.  I'm carrying my iPad around to get the Corporate emails and the Razr Maxx has been relegated to just being a very expensive phone.

  • Droid Razr M: KitKat update problems

Hi there, I have a few questions/problems with my Droid Razr M since the KitKat update was pushed to my device a few days ago.
    1. I was on vacation in Europe (Austria/Hungary/Croatia) when the update was delivered to my device. I think the download happened in Austria or Hungary. Now I appear to have a non-US version of the update on my phone.  For example, Airplane Mode is called "Aeroplane Mode", and so on.  Do I have the correct version of the update?  I'd like the version applicable to US phones.  Can I re-download it somehow, now that I'm back in the US, and correct this?
    2. Bluetooth no longer pairs with my BMW X1.  My phone does not even see the car in available devices.
    3. WiFi does not work with Bluetooth enabled. My phone will recognize my home/work networks, but will only say "saved", and not connect. I am reading that this seems to be a known issue.  I use Bluetooth for my Fitbit and my car (referenced above).  I cannot just go to 5G because my work WiFi does not have a 5G option (my home network does have the 5G option).  I also would like to be able to use WiFi in public places like I did before the update.
Please let me know how to address these three issues.  Thanks!

I had some hiccups when I got the upgrade to my LG G2. I know others have had problems with their KK updates, on Samsungs and even HTC.
I believe the KK upgrade, while in the ideal should leave the phone running perfectly under the new operating system will potentially fail because of the variation in how people use their devices and what they've downloaded, and the fact that some memory isn't initialized properly when the new OS loads onto the device. This is true regardless of phone manufacturer, OS upgrade, and even carrier. I think this is a reality with Android.
I think the only option is to perform what is called a "Factory Data Reset". But first you should backup any important photos, music, or videos, or other downloaded files. You should also jot down where you've placed icons, and even the settings for things like mail (incoming and outgoing server).
After an FDR, you'll have to do some work to get your device back running to a state you are comfortable and familiar with. In my experience, doing maybe 10updates over the years on 4 Android phones, about 40% of the time I didn't need to do an FDR. 60% of the time I did.
It is also possible there are some bugs in the new software load, but a good many of these odd behaviors, across a range of devices (LG, Samsung, Motorola, HTC) occur because people did not perform an FDR following the update.
    HTH.

  • Droid Razr M: KitKat Update Fail

I have tried to update my Droid Razr M with the OTA KitKat update and it fails every time.  It downloads fine, but only installs about 25% then goes to the Android laying on his back with a exclamation point.  It then restarts and says, "Software Update Failed".  I have tried several times and even done a hard reset and it still fails.  Please help.

Uneventful update:  My stock red Motorola M had been gone since I tried to (removed)  I had thought (mistakenly) that this indicated my system was corrupted but now I realize the logo is just that...an image.
Before the rest of you posted, I believed that if I did a hard reset, Kitkat would load.  But apparently that is not the case.
(removed) though I did have before Tuesday.

  • Droid Razr M Red Eye Boot Loop--continues for TOO many customers, need help!

Droid Razr M problem with red eye boot loop--with ALL of the many posts that can be found online concerning this problem, why is there not a FIX from Motorola and/or Verizon?  All I seem to get are suggestions (I've tried) and "device is now considered out-of -date, you need a new phone".  Why should I purchase a new phone when I will have another issue in 2 yrs to cause me to purchase again?  Amazing how I am back to the 3G Droid Razr X to make due--It is about 5 yrs out-of-date.  Support with phones that are out-of-contract is ...well, pretty much non-existent.  Motorola gives the same "run around" after a 1 hr. call.  Verizon chat tech were helpful/nice but I was sent to motorola when answers could not be found...useless call transfer/number.  Any help for this Verizon faithful customer other than spend more $ for another phone?

Factory data reset is all that you can try really.  If that does not repair the issue, then the software or hardware might really be at fault, and a repair would be necessary.

  • Droid RAZR (not MAXX) 4G, service drops on GB and ICS

Okay, the forums are full of threads concerning this issue. The phone loses data connectivity as well as voice. Every person seems to have a different opinion as to when or where their service drops, and I have tried to find a fix (official or not) since I first got my RAZR.
I got my phone sometime in March 2012 from a Verizon store during a promotion. I was happy I can get a phone with better hardware than my DROID X (awesome phone-best I ever had). I didn't care much about the 4G, but I considered it a perk for upgrading.
    1. A day later I started having problems with my service. The 4G connection would drop, the 4G icon would turn white and then disappear for good. The phone would have no data connection at all but a few seconds later the white 4G icon would reappear and turn blue later. I thought it is because the 4G coverage is spotty as I was constantly moving from one place to another. But I got home (where I never had problems and Verizon service was always excellent) and it would do the same thing.
    2. I have data connectivity and voice service but I turn off the screen. When I turn the screen back on, data connection is lost and I have no service available. I had one error that said "SIM card invalid" or something like that a few times. On Gingerbread I just switched to 3G only and I had no problems. But every time I switched back to use the LTE, I had the same problem over and over.
    3. Upgraded to ICS as I figured Motorola and Verizon worked together to find a "cure" for these sudden service losses. I was wrong. With ICS it is even worse. I lose data and voice service very often. In store, Verizon employees are telling me they have never seen problems like mine (liars?). On the phone with CS I am told they do not know of any issues similar to mine. But forums are full of threads of people having the same issue. Answers from VZ employees are not very clear and directs people to a simple Factory Reset, cleaning the SIM card, reinserting the SIM card... basic stuff a monkey could think of too.
    4. Some times after a phone conversation, I hang up and immediately after, my service drops. I have to turn the screen off and then back on after about 5 seconds, the service is still nowhere to be seen, but if I leave the screen on for about 10 seconds, the phone will regain its connectivity to the network. THIS HAPPENS IN 3G COVERAGE AS WELL AS 4G NOW.
Steps taken: Downloaded the Motorola app to Restore Connectivity - did not work, I still have the problem.
Carefully cleaned the SIM card surface making sure there is no static electricity  discharge - did not work, I still have the problem.
Factory reset numerous times  - did not work, I still have the problem.
Removed and reinserted the SIM card - did not work, I still have the problem.
Updated to ICS hoping that would solve the problem - did not work, I still have the problem.
Anything I do I still have the problem.
So please tell me, Does VZ publicly acknowledges there is a problem with DROID RAZR? If yes why do some people inside VZ deny any issues with it while others don't. Aren't they trained or aren't they reading the same training material the others do? Besides that I am not aware of Motorola or VZ taking any responsibility in trying to fix this.Is there a fix in the works? Please if there is any help for people like me, with the same problem, I think VZ should email owners with solutions. REAL SOLUTIONS because it is possible. I receive newsletters for new phones and plans but none to suggest a fix to issues.
And factory reset after factory reset is not working out for me as I use my phone not to txt my friends or send funny pictures of my dog to my neighbor but for business. This is really affecting and annoying me. And yes, I could switch to an iPhone but Android provides me with a great deal of options in my line of work that iPhone does not have. And yes, I could switch to another Android based phone, but I paid for this one and I want to use what I paid money for.
Again... final question is: Is there a fix, a software fix (I think this has to do with software) for this?
    Thank you!

I had EXACTLY ALL of the same issues (plus some Bluetooth issues):
Got my phone in January or February
First instance of this happened about the middle of June (or maybe the third week) for several days before I finally called, believing it was a "hiccup" in the network (still on GB)
Customer Service did some troubleshooting, placed it in "safe mode" to see if it might be an app causing it, factory reset, etc., etc., etc.......
VZ put in a network trouble ticket which seemed to solve the issue (although I don't really know what may have been done) for about a week (now I know that this was a mere coincidence)
About a week or two later (still on GB) it started again; this was maybe a Wednesday
CS troubleshooting, another trouble ticket, etc., etc., and then I finally did a factory reset myself
Friday night (maybe Saturday) ICS is out, and downloaded believing it would fix it.
The problem was resolved briefly (several hours, maybe a full day) and then began again with a vengance
Called, went through all the same humbug, did a couple (or a few) factory resets, and I too, had the "invalid SIM" error show up on the screen out of nowhere ........
Customer Service had me to go to my local Verizon store and get a new SIM (they thought that might possibly be the problem). Got the replacement, and it worked, again, only briefly; just a few short hours later, it was right back to the same old thing........more phone calls
    trouble ticket is still out.......
Was even told by the advance tech support person that on several phones with this very same problem, that he actually saw this resolved by simply creating a different, brand new Google account (instead of the Verizon customer's original Google account) during setup, after a factory reset (don't ask me how......). Gladly, this is one step that I didn't take (that's all I need is one more email account!)
Finally, it was determined that it MUST be the device. I really didn't want another phone as I always keep my phones in pristine condition cosmetically, and there was no reason (as far as I was concerned) to swap it.
Reluctantly, I allowed them to send me a replacement. I say, "reluctantly" because my original was a new device but they would be sending me out a "certified reconditioned, like-new" replacement.
After some trepidation, I decided to go ahead; Motorola would probably take a year to get mine back to me after finding "nothing wrong", or the same year getting me a replacement, should I be lucky enough that my original device would act up for them to see that there actually is a real problem. Verizon, on the other hand could have a replacement to me in two days.
Needless to say, it has been a week (5 days) with the replacement and I have to admit that it absolutely WAS the device that I bought originally. This replacement hasn't repeated the problem, (with the exception of ONE VERY MINOR instance of about a 5 - 15 minute window on one day only), and I'm happy to say that it works like my original device did when I first got it.
I got a call after the 3rd or 4th day (I believe it was the 4th day) with the replacement device, from the trouble ticket people (technician who actually works out in the field maybe?) and was told that they have thoroughly checked the network/antenna/tower here and found that there was absolutely nothing wrong, and that everything is functioning as it should.
This problem was continuously happening at my house, so it was natural that I believed something was wrong with the tower here near my house. I live in a good 3G/LTE coverage area near New Orleans and had no problems whatsoever from January/February through the first part of June, so it was only natural that I thought it must be a problem with the tower.
I thanked him, and told him about the replacement, and he told me that's what he was going to suggest next, and it was the only suggestion that he had left.
Just know that in the course of all of these calls, I was told by at least a few reps (2 for sure) at Verizon that they were aware that this IS a problem on some of the Razr's and Razr Maxx's.
If this is as bad for you as it was for me (and I'm confident that it is), then I would call Customer Service - don't go to a store. Tell them EVERYTHING that has happened, everything that you've done to attempt to resolve it (including the painful process of factory resets), and what I've described here.
If you're okay with a "new" (read: replacement) device, then I'm sure that they can get you a replacement out in short order. As far as it looking new, you would NEVER be able to tell cosmetically that this isn't a brand new device.
I hope that this was able to help you, as well as all the others, with this issue.
Good luck everyone, and God bless you.

Okay, so regrettably, I must report to everyone that the replacement followed suit after only 6-7 days. It lost 4G connectivity and jumped to 3G and that's where it stayed.
So I call Verizon and after a brief conversation, they asked if it was okay for them to transfer me over to Motorola for them to troubleshoot and I said that I'd be more than glad to speak with them.
    Here's the breakdown:
After a lengthy call (an hour and twenty minutes), allowing them to remotely connect to my phone, and the Level 2 Tech seeing for himself that it's on 3G in a full 4G area, he tells me that there's nothing more that can be done.
    WHAAAT?!!!
He said that if I want to send it in to Motorola they'll look at it, and if they did find anything wrong with the phone they'll send me a replacement, but if they DON'T find anything wrong with it (which I'm sure would be the case), they will simply send me my phone back, and that it will be Verizon's network that is the problem.
In this scenario I would need to find a replacement phone to use while my Razr goes to Motorola (for them to find nothing wrong with of course, and blame everything on Verizon's LTE network) only to get it back weeks later and be totally inconvenienced (this has been going on since June).
The last thing he said to me before getting off the phone was that they have similar devices with other carriers and they don't have any of these problems with those devices.
I've started searching the other devices forums here in the Verizon Wireless Community and I'm beginning to see a pattern.  The same issue is happening with quite a few of the other 4G devices so I'm not really sure that another device (different manufacturer) is even the answer.
They have sent me yet another Droid Razr and I can honestly say that this will be the last one. If I can't find a device that will actually keep/hold LTE connectivity then I may have to go back to Sprint.  Their native coverage is nowhere near Verizon's but they also don't have much 4G coverage right now.
If I'm going to have to be on 3G anyway, I may as well pay less than I'm paying now - or at least pay the same and not have to worry about going over on data.I guess we'll see how this replacement works out and go from there.
Anyhow, just know that it may not be a Razr/Razr Maxx problem after all.
Hopefully, they can get this sorted out and we can all get back to life......

I have tried a Click Away computer repair, Verizon and Motorola support but to no avail.
My T520 will not operate with my Droid Razr M hotspot.  The hotspot works with other computers.  The
T520 works with other hotspots.  With the Droid Razr M, the T520 connects , sometimes has internet access for a short while, then no internet access.  Most times it is no internet access from the start but the connection is made.
I have upgraded the driver for the Realtek 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card, no change.
My other computer is an Ideapad Y550.  The hotpsot works fine with this.  I have no problem with my home Wifi
operating with the T520 either.  I have spent hours by myself and with others and have no other ideas. HELP!!
Click Away - could get other cell phone Wifi to connect with T520.  They thought the Droid Razr M was rejecting the
connection to the T520 due to a MAC ID flagged as bad by the phone.  Explained this to Verizon but they didn't pursue this.
Verizon - Opened a ticket to look into it and after a week still had no response. Customer agent that answered my call to follow up on open ticket said their network people didn't find anything operating incorrectly, thus no call.  Called 611 and phone person tried clearing cache and then resetting different settings to see if could get connection.
Motorola - tried extensively to test different setups, took over control of phone and did a lot I didn't follow,  ended running through different specified Broadcast channels ( rather than auto) to see
if that would allow internet access.  Their conclusion is that T520 is an incompatibility with the phone.

You can't. iPad Bluetooth does not support it.

On July 24th, 2012 iCloud mail stopped syncronizing with my Droid RAZR.  My wife and I have identical phones, and have currently active and functional iCloud accounts on Mac. Both of our phones had functional email syncronization before AND AFTER ICS updates.  No new dowloands or settings changes have occured.  I have ensured that we are using the correct manual settings [email protected], PW, imap settings mail.mac.com, port 993, SSL

I was on with verizon support, apple support, and motorola support and no one knows what has happened or has any solution.
Have others encountered this problem recently? I have seen postings from last year on this, but nothing recently.
