Droid Razr Jelly bean update issue

yesterday evening my Droid razr got JB update.
After update, the phone won't show up home screen, instead it is continuously loading the boot screen.
i had a VERY LONG CONVERSATION(almost 2hours)  to VZW cust supp guy & these are the options he gave.
1) i need to buy (with my MONEY) new/recertified device to continue in the service
2) i need to do an early upgrade & buy new phone.
UNTIL YESTERDAY MY IS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE (with ICS) & VZW OTA update bricked my phone &
THEY WANT ME TO PAY /EXTEND MY CONTRACT BECAUSE OF THEIR MISTAKE.
& THE customer support guy blames Motorola & google for bad software update.
which is not true BECAUSE THE UPDATE IS A CUSTOMISED ANDROID OF VZW not motorola or Google.
BUT  STILL HE SAID HE CAN'T DO ANY THING.
I NEVER EXPECTED THIS FROM VZW & TOTALLY ****** OFF.

yes, i can boot into recovery menu & can select recovery option.
but after i select recovery option, it will just show some dead green
android picture(whose stomach is open with stop/error symbol)
Thanks & Regards

  • Droid RAZR Jelly Bean Update-Part 2

For those who did not follow the previous discussion, I had the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update forced OTA to my phone at the end of March. It caused numerous problems such as:
    1. I have battery life that cannot last more than 20-30 minutes on a phone call
    2. Severe lag on my software such as browser, home screen scrolling, opening any apps, etc.
    3. Phone randomly makes phones calls (screen off, phone sitting on a table charging for hours then suddenly a muffled "Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?").
    4. Random text problems: Phone says cannot send texts but does anyways, phone sends text to wrong person, group texting is all kinds of wrong).
    5. Same WiFi issues as reported by other users above.
    6. Speaker Phone starts out fine but then suddenly becomes low volume. Only ending the call and redialing fixes this; until it does it again on the new call.
    7. The keyboard does the spacing issues, the auto-correct is so bad that a word like "problems" comes out as "price blems"
    8. Bluetooth does not connect any longer to my ear piece or car.
I spoke to VZW about this yesterday and they sent me a CLN Droid RAZR to replace my malfunctioning device. I pulled the device from the box and activated it and let it update its stock apps (I did not install any 3rd Party or Play Store Apps). After using the device for awhile (6 hours) I had all of the same issues I had on the original device. I could not connect via Bluetooth, WiFi only would connect to one Access Point out of 6 I tried (all less than a year old, different models, at Home, Work, Clients, etc), battery died after 1.5 hours despite having a full charge and only being used for some phone calls and light web use, and so on.
I called back to VZW Customer Care and explained to them I was in a bind as I was leaving to travel for work tomorrow and would be gone 2-3 weeks and could not be without a working phone. I was told immediately they understand and a brand new (not CLN) Droid RAZR HD was on its way overnight.
I must say, I have not always had great experiences with VZW Customer Care, but the ability to call and have an upgraded device on its way to my house in under 5 minutes (with 2 of those being on hold, and one transfer to Tier 2) was very good customer service. I would have been in a bind if I had to travel without a working phone...to the point that I was ready to just jump ship and hop on another carrier to be sure I had working service/phone. I was expecting to receive the transfer shuffle, be offered contract extension, offered lesser devices, etc (based on past experiences). I did not expect an upgraded phone that is not even a CLN, but an actual new phone after just a few minutes.
So thank you VZW. You did really help me out.

yes, i can boot into recovery menu & can select recovery option.
but after i select recovery option, it will just show some dead green

  • Problem with Droid Razr Maxx and Jelly Bean update

My Droid Razr Maxx was updated this morning and right away found a couple of problems. First, although I was sitting next to my wireless router, the signal display indicated a really weak signal. This seemed to clear up after a reboot and an on-off-on cycle of the wifi on the phone.
The second problem was that, with the wifi off, I had no data signal. None. The phone worked but no 1x/3G/4G. I traced that problem to the phone configuration. Somehow the update turned off Mobile network data access. (Menu -> System Settings -> Wireless Netwroks -> More... -> Mobile networks -> Enable data access over mobile networks)
Seems like a dumb thing for the update to do.

Put all of your contacts in one place, Gmail contacts.  Gmail will only sync one copy and is an excellent way to restore contacts after a factory reset.  If you have contacts in Gmail, Verizon Backup Assistant, Facemail, etc. then you will probably get multiple copies.  Ditch Backup Assistant ASAP if you have it activated.
Make sure all of your contacts are in Gmail Contacts, erase all contacts from your phone (clear data in Settings > Apps > All > Contacts Storage), and resync with Gmail Contacts.

  • Jelly Bean Update for Razr Maxx Hd

I just got a razr maxx hd yesterday and am trying to perform the Jelly Bean update. It does not show up in my downloader, but I keep getting a notification saying "Download suspended, will resume shortly." and it shows 0% progress. When I try to restart the download, it notifies me that it is already downloading and that I will be notified when it is finished but it has been over 12 hours since I originally began the update. Is there a way to fix this?

General OTA release should have started already. Manual upgrade option should also be available sometime this week. I prefer manual upgrades to OTA's as the install is invariably more stable and functional. Downside is that they wipe your phone clean, but this assures that app dependencies install "where they are supposed to go" so that apps function as intended. OTA's have to "work around" installed stuff, and this often causes inconsistent "glitchy" behavior from individual to individual. Some OTA installs work perfect, others have issues which may or may not reproduce from phone to phone.

  • Why won't my home wifi work after jelly bean update?

My phone updated to jelly bean on tuesday morning, and i noticed i cannot connect to my home wifi.  It will connect at school or work however.  I have tried turning off and on my phone and my router.  I know its not my connection because my other devices all connect to it.  When i go to the wifi on my phone, it detects my home wifi with a full signal, but when i put the password in to connect, it says the signal is poor and it just repeatedly tries to connect.  Is there any way that i can get my wifi to work again?  If i have to and if there is a way i will uninstall jelly bean if thats the only way to get it to work again.

Here is my current situation with a brand new Razr HD:
    -Linksys WRT54GL with updated firmware
-New Razr HD purchased 5 days ago
    -System Version: 9.16.6.X926
    -Android Version 4.1.2
    -Build Number 9.8.1Q-62_VQW_MR-2
My Mom got the same phone at the same time and has dropped calls, poor wifi signal and range, etc.
I have fully set up my phone with apps and all settings perfect, cleared the system cache, one factory reset and input all app usernames and passwords again, etc.
My phone is perfect, except for not connecting to wifi in a room downstairs from the router where all other devices, a Nook, 10-year old DELL laptop, and Droid Incredible get 4 full bars of wifi strength. This Razr does not connect at all and rarely if it does when I leave the door open gets one bar of strength and is useless.
I love the phone so much I am reluctant to swap it out and lose all my app settings and customization. I read that it isn't mattering if you swap it out, still the same problem. But it's bothering me and I want it right so I went to the Verizon store today to test it and swap it out for a new different one. They don't perform tests and didn't know what I was talking about. Very abrasive staff and manager tried to research the issue for a half an hour, then said they had a call in to Motorola. If I wanted to swap it out I could but that would be my one swap and that's it.
I have actually spent so much time and effort on this I wanted to get a MAXX HD for my wasted time and frustration. That is simply out of the question. I stood there with my phone connected to the Verizon wifi network in the store with one bar of wifi strength, while the display connected to the same network showed a full network signal all bars.
They were so abrasive, demanding that it doesn't matter how many wifi bars you get it will still connect to the Internet. I said no that's not true this device will not connect in my bedroom while all other old devices get full wifi strength. They didn't care.
They were so reluctant in the matter that I decided to walk out and watch for an update to Jelly Bean to solve the issue. People are taking their phones back and it doesn't fix this. It seems to be strictly a Jelly Bean update fix.
I will watch my phone, only use wifi in large areas that usually work fine, etc. My question is: When will there be a Jelly Bean update pushed out to Razr HD owners on Jelly Bean so they will have comparable wifi and signal strength to every other wifi enabled device that exists?
    Thanks
PS. I have tried every single router and phone setting mentioned on any forum. Same thing. This requires a 2nd update.

  • Downloading phone book problem after "Jelly Bean" update

I own a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander GT with Bluetooth (labeled as Link System) and a Motorola Droid RAZR. The vehicle has always recognized the phone as paired. Prior to "Jelly Bean", I had no problems downloading the entire phone book to the Bluetooth device in the vehicle. However, I had noticed on a recent trip that several new contacts were not recognized by the Link system. I realized that I needed to update the phonebook. I first deleted the old phone book from the vehicle, but I was then unable to download the new phone book to the vehicle. I tried several times but with no success. An additional Bluetooth symbol would appear to the left at the top of the phone display with the message "PBap connection request". The message would disappear after a second. But several seconds later, the upper left-hand Bluetooth symbol would also disappear, and the vehicle Bluetooth device would then inform me that the phone book download had failed. I contacted Verizon tech support last week, and the rep and I concluded that the Jelly Bean update was the problem, but she was unable to fix it. I also noticed elsewhere on the Verizon web site that several other people with different vehicles were also unable to download the phonebook from their Android phone to their vehicle's Bluetooth device.
I then realized that perhaps the Jelly Bean update had changed only how the Bluetooth on the phone interacted with the Bluetooth/Link system on the vehicle. I concluded that I needed to delete not just the old phone book from the vehicle's Bluetooth device, but also the pairing/recognition of the phone itself from the vehicle's Bluetooth device. I then reinstalled pairing/recognition of the Droid RAZR on the vehicle's Bluetooth device, and successfully downloaded the phone book from the RAZR to the Bluetooth device on the vehicle. This action should fix the problem on other vehicles as well.

Jandariea, I understand how frustrating this could be. You would think a software update would be fully baked and basic functions like Wifi would work. However, this is not the case with all Jelly Bean software updates. You sound more like the exception then the rule! Have you tried to disable/enable airplane mode? Does this issue only happen with your home wifi, or can you connect to a public Wifi (i.e. library or Starbucks)? Have you tried to do a master reset on the phone http://bit.ly/T1Ib1B ?^SP

  • Everyone seems to be talking about the Jelly Bean update, however when I check for an update, it says my phone is up to date.  Why is this?

It seems like every other RAZR Maxx has an update but mine.  What the heck? lol

Same with mine - got in May. Says it is Factory Certified - factory tested
but never used. Claimed not a full charge yet it was 95% charged...what can
you  do - other models were lesser in quality and features..interesting
that you had  option to take update - I did not. My email accounts were not
receiving. Didn't  try nav doc...Hope this one will be better.

  • Jelly Bean update completely killed true hands free voice dialing.

Regardless of the fact that S-Voice (as well as Google Voice dialing/search) is unable to recognize most of my contacts, it's also a fact that by definition, it cannot work as a true hands free voice dialer, which is defined as the ability to make a call without touching (or even seeing) the phone AT ALL.  This is due to the simple fact that neither S-Voice nor Google Voice dial/search allows you to say "yes" or "no" to a phone number confirmation prompt.  In other words, you need to see the screen at some point in order select the correct number to dial.  Prior to the Jelly Bean update, this issue was relatively easily solved by using a third party app -- I preferred an app called "Cyberon Voice Commander" -- to take over the voice dialing duties.  The first time you hit the Bluetooth button after installing the app, you could select the default program to respond to the BT button.  I simply selected the Cyberon Voice Commander app, and everything worked from this point forward -- I could dial a number without ever taking the phone out of it's case.
With the Jelly Bean update, however, this is suddenly no longer possible because S-Voice completely takes over the Bluetooth button, and does not allow another app to take over as the default.  The "launch by default" section for S-Voice in the application manager is now greyed out, and says "no defaults set" for S-Voice even though S-Voice is set as the default program to launch when pressing the BT button.  The only "potential" solution is to completey "disable" S-Voice via the application manager, which does allow you to select Cyberon Voice Commander as the default BT button press app, but there are two problems with this.  First, the default resets when turning the phone on even though you select "always" for the CVC app.  This means that you have to re-select the third party app as the default BT button app EVERY time the phone is turned off.  Second, disabling S-Voice is not a solution because I still would like to use it for things OTHER than voice dialing.  Disabling it completely removes it from the menu, making it unusable even for things that it is better at.
I cannot believe how hard S-Voice is being shoved down our throats.  Why would they make it mandatory?  The whole point of Android is that it's supposed to be "open" and allow users to individually decide on their own way of doing things -- i.e. to offer multiple approaches that suit your preferences rather than adopting a narrow minded "we decide what's best" attitude.  This is the whole reason that I moved away from Apple.  This S-Voice situation, however, is just ridiculous.  It's fine to push it as an "option," but please keep it OPTIONAL -- particularly given that it literally CAN'T do what other apps do (i.e. true hands free dialing.)
    Larry

A few things you can try ... turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, wait a few minutes, then reinsert the SIM card and re-boot the phone.  Maybe a fresh connection to the network will improve the signal/call quality.
Do a system cache clear; it won't delete your data:
    Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
You should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select
If all else fails, back everything up, remove the SD card to be on the safe side, and factory reset the phone.  No, it's not a preferred option, but sometimes that is what it takes to 'clear out the cobwebs' after an operating system update.

  • Terrible reception after Jelly Bean update

The morning after upgrading to Jelly Bean my phone suddenly began having terrible reception issues.  At home I normally get about 2-3 bars but I have never had any issues getting calls out or in or texting... Now I get one bar and absolutely cannot call out or text out AT ALL...  I can receive texts, but I get no calls.  Sometimes it will say that I have no service, even when I have one or two bars...
Even when I drive closer to town I can't call out until I get 4 or 5 bars...  even then reception is poor and calls are dropped for no reason.  Literally this phone has gone from working beautifully to being absolutely worthless as a phone.  Wireless still works fine at home and I still get 3G/4G service...  It also always says I'm Roaming at home or if I have less than 3 bars...
I have tried *228 and even reset the phone to factory defaults with a full wipe.  No beuno...  Obviously I've tried numerous reboots as well...
I'm not sure if the Jelly Bean update is a coincedence, but something is definitely up with my phone...
    Suggestions?

Javaslinger, I'm sad to see that you've developed signal issues on your phone after the software update. Updates should bring enhancements and fix bugs, not cause issues. It looks like you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already. If you have a battery saver, please uninstall as these can turn off data to save battery, causing signal issues.
If still having issues, we'll need to submit more info to our product team.
    1) Provide network type and network strength details observed on phone, Menu>Setting>About Phone> Phone status> network type and network strength parameters.
    2) What type of network service issues are observed on device? Like call drop, browsing failures, SMS etc..
    3) Do you see any flickering in "network type" icon at the time of issue happened.
    4) Is the issue random / always ?
    5) Is the issue limited to a location/region or does he have problem everywhere you visit?

  • Jelly Bean Headphone Issues

I just got the jelly bean update today.  Now, I have the following issue.  If my headphones are plugged in and I listen to music with Google Play Music, the first song played is OK.  However, when it switches to the second song, it begins to play out the phone speaker instead of the headphones.  If I hit the skip to the next song button, it doesn't do have the issue. It only happens when I let it go onto the next song by itself.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

I experienced sounds issues as well after Jelly Bean. It even killed my battery life. I think it has to do with the latest Google Play Music and its gapless music that is causing the Media Server to go crazy. The Media Server handles sound from various apps. In my case, I saw Media Server was the second highest in battery consumption, and once I started some music, my volume keys would never control the ringer volume until a reboot, it would only control media sound.
I've since clear data and cache and uninstall all updates to Google Play Music. The app is still a little buggy I think, but no more sound and battery isssues. Hope this helps.

  • Jelly Bean Update Fails

I've tried 8 times now to update my Razr Maxx with the new Jelly Bean update. It downloads fine, but fails during install. Any advice is appriciated.

If you haven't already, do a factory reset then the update.
Just remember that if you do a factory reset, you will be resetting your phone back to the point it would be new to you. You will have to link it to your google account again, sync everything, add all the apps back, setup email, etc.
Please make sure this is the last resort to try. Have you tried just restarting your phone? How much storage is available on the internal store area? Is your charge on the phone sufficient (Plugged in?)

  • Anyone else getting really bad lag since Jelly Bean update?

Verizon forced a Jelly Bean update to my SG3 about a month ago. Since then my phone has been lagging really bad. Takes about 7 to 8 seconds see what I typed when texting, it takes a long time to open up the contacts, or a web page or even sometimes just flipping through the screens it will lag. Has anyone else had any issues like this? Anyone know how to fix it? Getting a new phone is not an option, sending it out to be fixed is not an option. I have no choice but to keep the phone I have or <Comment deleted per the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service.>.

It sounds to me as if you are having some application conflicts. It may be worth it to try a factory reset, without backing up your application settings, and down/install your apps again.

  • The only way to fix Xperia P problems after the jelly bean update!

After the jelly bean update my Xperia got slow, I could not answer phone calls, the call log took so much time to appear , I have tried uninstalling external softwares , reseting the phone , nothing worked. Finally I have downgraded the phone follwing the guidelines provided in this link - http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Android-development/GUIDE-How-to-Install-Jelly-Bean-ICS-Ice-Cream-Sand...
Now my phone is fast , gallery is working fine , I can receive phone calls , no useless chrome by default , the google search widget works fast , the overall performance is much better. So I would recommend people to downgrade their Xperia p to ice cream sandwich and stick with it. OLD is GOLD!

What is your build version now after downgrading to ICS? I could not download 6.1.1.B.1.54 from the list which was best to me.. Please let me know quickly, I'm having the same **bleep** problem in JB.
