DROID RAZR M Battery issues

I just upgraded to smartphone from a basic, 16 days ago, important to note as Verizon return policy is 14 days. My battery life is about 6 hours with no emails, no aps that I know of, 1 quick call from the Verizon rep to verify my phone, 2 outgoing and 1 incoming basic text messages. The rep tells me 6 hours is good but I would not know this as just switched from basic. I do not believe this. I have read all these posts and I have closed everything that I can and still the phone is almost dead at 3:30 in the afternoon. My smartphone is a glorified basic phone right now. What am I missing?

We have both with my wife got the same issue with our Razr:
For no apparent reason the phone got very hot, and before long the entire battery was drained to mere few percent. It happens at random. In my case I thought it was a running Google-maps application. Just a hunch.
Last time we saw the issue on my wife's phone, I used the battery usage tool to see if any app would pop-up as the culprit. In her case it was the "wi-fi", but there it is: On that day we were traveling, and she was not using the phone at all. The "roaming data plan" was disabled, no connections we attempted by her, she does not use any remote wi-fi anyways. This entire indication is suspect to me, why the phone passive in a purse would attempting to establish a wi-fi connection?
The truth is that the "smart phones" operate on a complex software, and a bundle of app's at the cost of simplicity and reliability.
I did mentioned: We miss our old phones. We do not trust Droid. What good is the "smart phone" without power? We need a reliable standby more, in which the phone acts only like that: a phone call listener! A phone is just that: a tool providing a mean of contact and a safety factor. Unless the battery is at 0%...

  • Droid Razr M Battery after KitKat Update

I recently updated my Droid Razr M with the KitKat update when prompted.  Battery life went from not needing to be charged for well over a day, to draining from 100% before the work day ended with light use.
I contacted Verizon and humored them and did the "battery trouble shooting" things with them, even though it appears to be a well known issue.  When the troubleshooting had no effect after a few days, we did a factory reset, which also didn't help.  I ended up getting a new phone because I had extended warranty coverage.
When I got the new phone, the battery was a dream, just like old times, after 2 days the system prompted me to do the KitKat update, which I did against my better judgement.
Meanwhile my husband also did the KitKat update on his Droid Razr M and started experiencing virtually the same battery problems.  Now both of our batteries drain about 50% faster than they did before the update.
My question is, if this is a known issue with Verizon, why bother treating it like user error?  It also seems like to "resolve the battery problem" (which they don't acknowledge is a direct product of the update) they ask users to basically not use their phone normally, but limit their usage to get more battery life, which isn't a solution at all. Is there an actual solution related the the problem (the KitKat update) that I can use to extend battery life on my phone?  Or should we both call and request replacement phones since the malfunction is not due to any sort of user error?

They said I can switch out my phone for a droid charge or thunderbolt...are you joking you *** hole they sell for ten bucks on ebay. They said that there was no know issues for the razr on their system...bull **** the last ten techs told me there was..with the screen and battery and with 4g not holding. Then she said the update was to fix the battery life...but you just got done telling me there was no know battery issues..so they must of just been updating it for??? the razr maxx has a bigger battery and a screen with a different glue to fix two know issues. thats why it was released 4 months after the razr...they sure know how to sell ********?? or do they?? being a part of the purchasing department our 300 employees will be choosing a different carrier soon.

  • Droid Razr Maxx Battery is now terrible

I don't know why, but now my battery on my droid razr maxx isn't good at all.  Today, it was under 20 percent after 3.5 hours, and I was only using it for probably one of those hours.  I rarely can get through an entire day with it anymore.  I've had the phone for almost a year now.  Anyone know ways to fix this or what the issue might be?
There are also sudden drops in my phone battery life. It will go straight from 50% to 20% for example.  This picture isn't the best illustration, but sometimes it will literally drop straight down.

Mine's at 90 percent after 4 hours 40 minutes.  Try clearing cache.

  • Droid Razr M Maps issue?

I've have a Droid Razr M since about Feb.  Just recently the Maps apps has been acting very poorly.  Lots of glitching, flickering and issues while using it.  Has anyone else been experiencing this?  Is it my phone?  I've got the OS up to date and the app.  Not sure if I should take it in or if it's just something to deal with?  Anyone else running into this?  Thanks!

        Hey there mixedberryjam,
The maps application is my favorite app.  I have a poor sense of direction so I am constantly using it. Let's get yours back up and running.
Are you having any issues with other data applications? Please try clearing the apps cache,http://vz.to/19bt5K8 and test again.

  • Droid Bionic Extended Battery Issue

I dropped my phone, only about a foot and the battery pack didn't even pop out. I've had bigger crashes and couldn't believe this small crash broke my phone. Took it to Verizon.  They told me the insurance deductible was $90 (what a rip off). Also the Bionic had been discontinued so they couldn't replace my phone with the same one.  I already have the extended battery they upsold me on so I wanted to explore other options.  My husband suggested trying my original battery. This worked. Almost paid $90 for insurance for a new phone when the fix was simple. Now I have to figure out what they will do for me since it is a battery issue and not related to my dropping the phone.  Thought someone out there might want to know about this so they don't get ripped off by insurance.

How is paying $90 for a $600 phone a ripoff?

  • Droid RAZR M service issues

I've had my RAZR M for about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks now. Was working great until today. My service randomly disappeared and won't come back. I can't use any apps like Facebook. And I don't have WiFi. I've already tried taking out the SIM card and turning mobile data on and off. And still nothing. Anything to solve this or should I look forward to having a new wireless provider again? Thanks in advance.

  • Droid RAZR battery issues

I am having major battery issues now with my Razr. Let me explain some of the things I've observed.
Number 1. When discharging it might drop to 99-98-97-80-40-39-38-20-4% as I witnessed today, right before my eyes while using it in a matter of a few minutes, and it gets hot too. When charging, it will charge up normally to around 30%, then jumps to 100 and says charged.
Number 2. This seems to be a much bigger problem when using 4G. I just recently got 4G here, and ever since then, my phone is always a little warm and just eats the battery. I'd noticed this before, when traveling from here when it was still just 3G, to a 4G area. It is such a problem that when I went to Florida this past summer, I had to stop at the verizon store for them to check it out, because it was dying way more rapid than I was used to, always being on 3G at home.
My phone is so bad now, that I dropped it from 100 to 4% in around an hour yesterday, and about 50+ minutes of that was idle and screen off. Then again later, I was using it to check the weather and it again went from 80+% to 15%, and quickly dropped to 9% in a matter of moments.
I have changed nothing about it that would cause this level of drain. Location and everything else is off. I checked to see what is using the battery the second time it happened, and is says it is mostly screen and android OS.

My daughter has had the exact same problem.  It worked fine since end of July when we got it as her regular two year upgrade plan until about a month ago.  She hasn't added any new apps and hasn't changed her phone behavior.  She does all the right things with turning off wifi and I've done the cache partition wipe twice and it sill does it. It gets so hot that the phone actually exhibits a warning message that it needs to shut down.  And it happens almost daily now. I've checked what's been using battery and Google Services seems to be the main culprit--with Google Play services and Location services using almost as much battery as the screen.  I've also uninstalled updates to Google Play services, rebooted and installed updates again and the overheating/battery drain still continues.  I am planning on taking her phone to Verizon and asking for a replacement.
I've scoured the internet for answers and not sure what to do.  Hoping it's a phone issue. It seems ridiculous to have to turn off all the connectivity and functionality of a smartphone just to be able to have it work properly.

  • Progressive Issues On Droid Razr M Since Upgrade to 4.4.2

At first, when my Droid Razr M updated to 4.4.2 in May, the only issue I noticed was that it frequently makes the small noise it usually only makes right before I receive an alert or it starts to ring. Now, it happens when I plug it into the charger, when it boots up after I've turned it off and on again, or various other times when there's no notification sound associated.
I've also noticed a significant rise in battery consumption, making it almost impossible to get through a day without having to charge it, even if the most I'm doing it checking Twitter a couple times an hour.
However, main issue has come in the last couple of weeks. It keeps rebooting itself for no apparent reason. I surmise it has to do with one of the several apps I have installed, but seeings as several update frequently, it's a bit difficult to tell with one may be the culprit.
Then there's the text message issue. I WAS (note this is in the past tense) using a 3rd party SMS app, mySMS. About two weeks ago, I started having issues receiving text notifications. More to the point, more often than not, I wasn't receiving them, which is frustrating when I'm expecting to hear back from someone and think they haven't responded, when in reality they have, I just haven't received the notification.
A couple days ago when I went to text a friend, I noticed an unread text from DAYS prior that I never received a notification for, so I switched back to the default SMS app. I texted two friends. One of them responded. We proceeded to text back and forth for the better part of an hour with no complication. I never received a text from the other friend. So, a few hours later I texted again. Still no response (which is unlike her). I then messaged her on Facebook, where she did respond and informed me she HAD texted back both times. In addition, she'd tried calling me and when she went to leave me a voice mail, it hung up on her. She was, however, able to call and leave a voice mail via her work cell.
I called her and could barely hear her, though she could hear me fine. The call kept breaking up on my end. She informed me that, like I with the other friend I'd texted that day, had texted others with no issue.
I tried rebooting my phone and using Google Hangouts for texting instead, to see if that would resolve the issue. When neither of those worked, I made sure everything was backed up and did a factory reset on my phone. Not only did it not resolve the texting issue, but it's still rebooting iteslf randomly and making that annoying little noise when there's no alert of any sort coming through.
I've had this device for a little over a year and am not due for a new one for another year. I can't afford to replace it or spend whatever ridiculous amount is expected to replace it via insurance (which I can't even remember if I have anymore).

I appreciate you trying so many fantastic steps to find a resolution to these difficulties, thagrrrl79. Since you went as far as the reset, I'd like to have you check a couple things. Please go into Settings>Backup & Reset and let me know if "Back up My Data" and "Automatic Restore" are checked. Also, try removing your SD card from your phone to see if the rebooting contninues.

  • KitKat Upgrade is horrible for Droid RAZR Maxx HD - Major issues - Horrible testing

If anyone can read this before accepting the update...DONT DO IT!!!!  There are a lot of issues especially with the RAZR Maxx HD.
You lose SWYPE, they get rid of it. You lose your personalized dictionary.
You lose the capability of auto Bluetooth. I used to be able to just get in my truck and it would auto connect.  NOW everything is manual.  It keeps dropping the connect and I have to keep connecting.  This is absolutely horrible upgrade.
If I am listening to an app through Bluetooth and receive a phone call, it will switch.  After about 60 seconds, the call is still connected, yet the phone starts broadcasting the app as well as the phone call, it drowns out the phone conversation.  I have to close the app or stop the broadcasting of the app.  It will no longer keep it in the background.
The text messaging is now all with a white background, you can't tell the difference between you and the person you're texting.
I'm trying to figure out how Motorola and Verizon could think this is a good thing!!!

I am having the same issues, been thru tech support with my office, Verizon and Motorola. Nothing has been done to correct it. First off I never wanted the update, why is this update forced upon the users that do not want it. Every app that I have downloaded I have the option to either update or not, but not the phone that I PAID for. I PAID for the phone in its original state mainly due to the way it performed. I would NOT have PAID for a phone with the KIT KAT software. My Son was able to shut down his update and avoid the KitKat update on the exact model phone I have, and is experiencing none of these issues.
    Some of my issues are:
Swype- I purchased my phone with the Swype feature on it, KitKat stole that from me. I will not purchase the Swype from Google Play as I have already paid for it.
Text messaging- Color scheme is abysmal to say the least, lost the ability for deleting multiple messages, cannot see group messages.
Wifi/Bluetooth- Cannot be used at the same time, have to chose one or the other, so no streaming video on wifi with bluetooth headphones
Weak Wifi- Signal strength has gotten horrific- Use to be able to sit outside and connect to Wifi- now only have 15 ft range- could get almost 50ft prior to update- sons Droid Razr HD still can with JellyBean
No 4g- I have always had 4 bars of 4g in my house- now I only get 3g or the 1X- Sons JellyBean phone sitting next to mine has 4g, mine will not
Loss of Wifi and bluetooth- All of my Wifi and bluetooth saved connections are gone and on some cannot connect- Can no longer connect to the hands free in my truck.
Loss of LED scheme- Again with the white- my LED light for notifications use to be a green light, blue for bluetooth, red for low battery, now it’s all white.
Corp Sync- Email notifications are no longer being pushed thru- I now have to manually check email messages, no longer coming up on the drop down screen and no notifications.
Battery Life- Battery now is depleting at a tremendous rate- I have force stopped and deactivated all programs that I do not use but because the phone seems to always be looking for signal it is eating up battery life.
I mainly use my phone for business and not for play; This KitKat update has really hurt my ability to communicate using my phone. I understand that the update will not be rolled back but I do hope that there is a patch that is coming out soon, as when I read up on the different forums everywhere there are thousands of us with the same issues.
My son and I have the same Droid Razr HD, He was able to avoid the update his phone works better than mine, true my screen may slide over a little smoother and it may play video a little more clearly (if it’s not buffering) but there is absolutely nothing that benefits me or my family on a FORCED, UNSOLICITED, UNWANTED update. If you want to update fine, but do not change my settings, or remove any of my features in the update.

  • DROID RAZR MAXX Issue, Screen Issue

My one month old Droid Razr Maxx, has encountered an issue and is useless exept to tell the time. I was trying to change my wallpaper when the phone became very slow and laggy. The screen then flickered a little and went black. Next, it rebooted and then the home screen went black, except for the status bar which looks normal but will not drop down. Once the screen goes black from inactivity (even trying to press the touch keys produces no effect), pressing the screen unlock button will not turn the screen on. The screen will only turn on when connected to a charger. I had recently downloaded the gallery lock app (Morrison Smart Software), which seems to have mostly good reviews. I have performed 3 or 4 hard resets thus far. I need help fixing my phone. I can't remove the battery on this phone, and then screen isn't working correctly so I can't do a factory reset.

Can you boot into SAFE MODE ??  You can also UNINSTALL that Gallery Lock APP from the online Android Market (PLAY).
    Safe mode:
    - Power Off
    - Power On
    - Press & HOLD both up & down volume buttons at the same time -- for like 3 mins while it boots up. Keep holding these down!
    - Phone should eventually come up and say SAFE MODE in lower left corner ..
Does THAT work???  If so, see if that app is in your APP drawer and try to uninstall it.
If that doesn't work, you can boot into the Maintenance Menu using a similar procedure that can get you to the ability to do a Factory Reset, if that's what you want to do.
    let us know.

  • Droid Razr Maxx/Issues with Exchange Sync and Texting

I have a Droid Razr Maxx.  Since the KitKat update to 4.4 in May 2014, my Exchange email account will not sync. My Comcast account does.    If I power cycle the phone, it will sync the Exchange account for a short time until I receive the following error message:  'couldn't open connection to server due to sec..."  When I touch the error message, it just goes away.  If there is more of the error message, I'm unable to see it.  I have removed the Exchange account and added it back in three times.  My IT department indicates they have not made any changes to the security levels, but have fielded several questions from other Android users with the KitKat update.  My text messaging service also stopped.  I've been reviewing all forums and tried different things, but to no avail.  I went to the Verizon store, who just said that there have been 'lots' of complaints about KitKat and that I should buy a different phone.  This $200+ phone is only 7 months old.  Please help!!

After deleting and adding my Corporate account, visiting the local Verizon store several times, visiting my IT department, and now wiping the phone and re installing all software, the Corporate email still only syncs when I power cycle the phone.  We are a BYOD company which means every other phone works with the Exchange account.  My phone also worked up until the KitKat update in May 2014. The only recommendation I have received from Verizon is to replace my 8 month old Motorola Razr Maxx with a entirely different phone at full price. The tech I spoke with at Verizon made the statement that she has avoided updating to KitKat given all the customer issues she has had to deal with.
I'm in a technology field and understand when glitches occur, but also expect functionality issues to be addressed. I've been with both Verizon and Motorola for a long time, but very doubtful I will continue this relationship when contract time is up for renewal.  I'm carrying my iPad around to get the Corporate emails and the Razr Maxx has been relegated to just being a very expensive phone.

  • After I unplug headphones, the speakers no longer work until rebooted.  Anyone else experience this?  Also had the same issue on the Droid Razr Maxx.

Ahh. We can still help find the culprit, TeaParty14. Do you have any 3rd party applications installed to play your music? Are you able to hear any audio if you plug the headphones back into the phone instead of rebooting? Any audio for calls through the phone direct or through speakerphone?
